~Now that you two have a little foal, applejack is even more cautious than ever! At first, she’s scared of her getting into every little thing but you help her to see reason and she starts to handle it better little by little

~Applejack is SUPER EASILY FLUSTERED and WILL blush every single time you do so much as kiss her fjdhdf

~Applejack starts teaching Honeycrisp baking and cooking at a young age(you learn along with her!)

~When you two go to the Apple Family Reunion together, everyone is complimenting you two, asking questions, and trying to get pictures! AJ makes sure you’re not being too overwhelmed tho!

~On the days you aren’t working with the weather ponies, you go to the farm and help(or maybe distract? How about both?) Applejack

~You guys start her off with fake cooking tools and food then slowly make her way up to real cooking

~You and Applejack share a bed an Applebloom teases AJ endelessly about it at the beginning

~Speaking of Applebloom, she loves hanging out with Honeycrisp! so much so that her and the Cutie Mark Crusaders babysit her when needed!(As long as they don’t have a previous engagement)

~The runners up babysitter is Pinkiepie since she’s a baker and already experianced with foals and phillys alike!

~Honeycrisp’s first word is “momma” cause she’s go two great ones!

~You two tend to cuddle under the apple trees when it’s sunny out

~You and Honeycrisp draw a lot too!

Other things - Period is ON. x_x Hot damn is it WOOSH and FLOW and CRAMPS and oh gods it’s miserable. So, not a whole lot got done today. Because miserable. But, Sir is doing a lot better! Which is good. Good good. But yea, just, miserable and exhausted all day. Tomorrow will be better!

My Thoughts on...Shantae

It’s been a while since I made another “Thoughts On” post. This time I’m going to be doing something a little different and be taking a look at a video game. I’ll admit, I’m not much of a gamer. At $60 a game, gaming is way too expensive of a hobby for me to have.

When I was browsing around the Nintendo eShop, Shantae caught my eye. I’d seen Shantae’s character design pop up here and there over the years, but I never knew who she was or what it was about. The games were in my price range so I bought them and figured “What the hell?”

I bought Shantae: Half Genie Hero first and beat it in about a week or so. I also bought Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse but I’m still on my first playthrough. Here are my thoughts so far...

Who/What is Shantae?

I did a little research. Shantae is the eponymous character from the video game franchise of the same name. She debuted with her title game for the GameBoy Color, which didn’t do very well because everyone was talking about the GameBoy Advance. Bummer. It was a Metroidvania style platformer about a half genie bellydancer named Shantae who was tasked with trying to stop the pirate queen Risky Boots (real name) from completing a doomsday device to, you guessed it, take over the world (OF COURSE!). The sequel, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, continued the story as Risky Boots had stolen a magic lamp and Shantae has to seal its magic so Risky can’t use it. Shantae’s first game isn’t really available, but you can get the other game in the series from digital stores and Steam. I got my games from the PSN.

Even though it’s the last game in the series I played it first so I’m going to start with

Shantae: Half Genie Hero

Gameplay

I’ve never liked platformers. I’ve always been really bad at them and get no sense of accomplishment whenever I succeeded. That being said this game is pretty fun. It’s a 2D platformer with Shantae gaining animal transformations and magic spells for power ups. The game difficult enough for it to be a challenge for me but I can see how it could be a walk in the park for more hardcore gamers. Some of the levels get frustratingly difficult but the boss battles are pretty easy once you figure out their strategy. The animal transformations are easy to access and easy to use. Overall, I had fun.

Graphics and Sound

This game looks like Shantae and by that I mean it’s gorgeous. The colors are bright and pleasing to look at. All the characters are cute and move fluidly. The soundtrack is energetic and cool. It’s a treat. In a marketplace full of gritty realities, I’ll take this fun personality any day. Cristina Vee, who you probably best know as Marinette in Miraculous Ladybug, does the voice of Shantae and Risky Boots which freaked me out because Risky Boots sounded a lot like Michelle Ruff to me. She does a great job of switching between characters (I thought Risky was Michelle Ruff, really!) and really brings them to life.

Story

This story here is very fetch-questy like the other games in the series. Shantae has been fired as the town’s guardian (again) for failing to prevent a pirate attack. Her uncle Mimic tells her not to worry because his new invention, the DYNAMO, is going to protect Scuttle Town and power it with electricity. Shantae goes off to find the last parts he needs as well stopping the usual bunch of jerkwads from causing trouble. It’s not much, but I’d rather take simple storytelling over a story that’s trying to be too hard to be clever.

Characters

My favorite part to look at in any piece of media, the characters...

Shantae

Hello new waifu! She’s a cutie. The half genie hero who protects Scuttle Town from pirates, barons, monsters and other baddies. If you’re wondering why she dresses like that it’s because she’s also a belly dancer. No, really. That’s her day job, I guess. When she’s not protecting the town. Shantae is an earnest girl, albeit kinda adorkable. She also struggles with her insecurities as she will beat herself up for her mistakes, believing it isn’t enough to be a half genie hero. Cute, fun, sincere, Shantae is a wish come true.

Risky Boots

Evil is sexy! Get frisky with Risky! Catchphrase that rhymes! Verb that noun! I really like Risky Boots because she’s a competent villain. You don’t fool her; she fools you! She’s gotten the upper hand on Shantae several times before. That was the whole point of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. She’s the primary antagonist, save for Pirate’s Curse which I’m still playing right now. My only concern is that Risky will get so popular that she’ll become a Vegeta-like character. That hasn’t happened yet. WayForward is adamant about her position as the villain.

Uncle Mimic

Shantae’s adoptive(?) uncle. A relic hunter and inventor, Mimic usually helps the plot along as his inventions are usually the mcguffin. He loves Shantae but doesn’t let her get away with doing whatever she wants. It’s a nice relationship and he plays his part well.

Bolo

Shantae’s dumbass childhood friend. Okay, that’s a bit much but yeah, he’s not very bright. He’s the kinda guy who wants to be the hero, but is always left behind. With all the times I’ve seen him mess up I can see why. Not my favorite, but not too bad. He’s got eyes for every girl except Shantae who since they got kinda a brother-sister relationship going on. Thank God there’s no fanart of them together. Add Bolo x Shantae to my Notp’s list.

Sky

Shantae’s best friend and a war bird trainer. In HGH, she’s how you get across the worlds thanks to her bird, Wrench. I like her just fine. She’s supportive, but like Uncle Mimic, doesn’t let Shantae get away with causing trouble. One thing that did tick me off though was in PC, she has this gimmick that she really wants to get married or something. She was even planning to hook up with one of Ammo Baron’s henchmen. Don’t do that guys. It’s cringeworthy and dumb as shit. Good thing they didn’t reference it at all in HGH.

Rottytops

In case the name didn’t give it away, Rottytops is a zombie. A free spirit who is a zombie...who probably doesn’t wear a bra. Who is a zombie. Okay fine, I’ll stop. She’s fun, flirty and kind of a bitch. I guess she’s the Eric Cartman of the group. She’s mischevious, but she’s not entirely without merit. She does genuinely want to be Shantae’s friend; she just has trouble showing it.

The Barons of Sequin Land

They’re all assholes. Next point!

Final Thoughts...

Overall, I’m really glad I got into this franchise. Probably best that I started with HGH since PC is a smidge bit harder. Either way I’m having a bunch of fun with these cute characters and funny interactions. After I beat PC I’m probably going to get the DLC for HGH.

I really wanted to write a fantasy cast list for Shantae, but since the DLC came out, most of the characters have voice actors now so it’s kinda moot at this point. Now I’m just thinking of how I would write a series bible for Shantae if I could make it an animated series. Maybe I’ll just stick with character theme songs for now.
