Verbank House in Dutchess County, NY
Sep 15, 2020
Verbank House
Architect: Jill Porter
Location: New York State, USA
Problem: How can we transform a colonial 80’s home into a modern farmhouse?
Exterior Solution: A new entry porch/roof, coupled with new board and batten siding, black windows, and modern lighting, give the home a crisp, modern farmhouse feel.
Interior Solution: Staying true to the rural roots of Dutchess County, the interior invokes a farmhouse feel without relying on nostalgia. Rather, design choices draw from a palette of modern and bold materials.
Seeking a country getaway from NYC, Jill Porter’ clients were drawn to this rural property as it has beautiful acreage, a pond, and privacy. Verbank House, however, was in dire need of work. Not only was it dowdy and dated, but the home’s interior layout left the kitchen and dining room divorced from the beautiful grounds.
In order to lift this house out of the early 80s, the clients wanted an exterior makeover with a modern farmhouse feel, and a new interior imbued with sunlight and design-rich finishes: bold and elegant materials, colors, and patterns. Mindful of the overall budget, any changes needed to be surgical, as my clients did not want to enlarge or alter the existing footprint of the house.
To complete this transformation, we first considered the proportions and volumes of the front elevation, as the front entry was dwarfed by the long roof. To this end, we broke up the existing roof line with an a new entry porch and gable roof. Although the change was limited to the entry, the new entry proportions changed the complexion of the whole front facade. New board and batten siding, black windows, and vintage lights provided the finishing touches, giving the home a crisp, modern appearance.
The back side of the house was nothing short of awful, due mostly to an ill-conceived addition. Oversized dormers sat on top of a screened-in porch, unusable due to it’s long, skinny proportions. The kitchen had no access to the exterior, nor broad views of the beautiful grounds. And the closest bathroom to the pool and patio required a walk through the screened-in porch, family room, and kitchen — a long trip for wet feet!
Changes to the back facade went hand-in-hand with the changes to the interior layout.
Long arrays of windows and doors were added to the dining room, kitchen, and former screened-in porch (now part of the family room). The new windows and doors firmly establish a relationship between the interior and exterior, frame views of the property, and wash the interior with sunlight. Furthermore, interior spaces were shifted and reconfigured, allowing space for a mudroom, as well as a new bathroom with access to the outdoor patio and pool.
Interior spaces were designed for family living – neither fussy nor precious, but designed with an eye towards color, pattern, and whimsy. Staying true to the rural roots of Dutchess County, the interior invokes a farmhouse feel without relying on nostalgia. Rather, design choices draw from a palette of modern and bold materials.
Kitchen: The focal point of the renovation work, the kitchen is a joyful space marked by rich and natural materials: custom brass hardware and range hood, marble tiles with hand lithographed patterns, gorgeous slabs of Breccia Capraia stone, and white oak furniture. Upper cabinets were completely eliminated to maximize windows and sunlight, and to give the space an airy feel. Where there is upper storage, we opted for open shelving with custom brass supports — not only beautiful, but family friendly, as the open shelves provide easy access to everyday plates and glasses.
Mudroom and bathrooms: A combination of high and low materials (i.e. affordable subway wall tiles with beautiful pattered concrete tiles), each space has it’s own feel, and the patterned floor tiles conceal the mess inevitably left by a family with kids and pets.
Living room bookshelves: Avid readers, my clients needed shelves for the growing library of books. We designed new shelves — almost 13’ long — with custom brass brackets. The brackets were conceived as a folded piece of paper, and function as both bookends (giving structure and order to the long array of books), as well as the bookshelf’s primary form of support.
Working with my clients was a total joy. They presented me with many of the material selections, and together, we composed an interior that feels true to place, yet unique and personal.

Trump In Hamptons For Fundraisers; So Are Protesters
BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY – President Donald Trump visited the Southampton home of developer Stephen Ross Friday afternoon, the second of two re-election fundraisers in the Hamptons that were expected to bring in $10 million, while hundreds turned out across the East End to protest against the president’s rhetoric and policies.
Ross, the billionaire owner of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins as well as fitness companies SoulCycle and Equinox, has himself been in the headlines for several days, as critics called for boycotts of the two firms.
Before boarding Air Force One to head to Long Island Friday morning, Trump called Ross a “great friend of mine.”
The president’s first stop on the island was at the Bridgehampton home of builder Joe Farrell.
Meanwhile, in Water Mill, protesters were making their voices heard Friday. “Stop hate, save America,” they chanted at a “Rally to Save America, Stop Hate” hosted by the Progressive East End Reformers/NYPAN.
“I feel it’s my duty to as an American citizen to speak out,” said Angela Giovanniello, of East Quogue, one of of about 250 protesters at the rally.
“I feel our government is no longer working in our best interests. Instead we are working for the interests of Vladimir Putin at the expense of our democracy.”
Tumblr media
There were a few Trump supporters among the crowd, including Diana Hinojosa, of Water Mill. “I think the president has done a lot of great stuff,” Hinojosa said. “No one is perfect…but he’s done a lot of great stuff.”
The protesters confronted Hinojosa and her husband Fausto, himself a “proud immigrant” who arrived in California in the 50s; he said immigration has been an issue for decades but he supports any sitting president of the United States. Those railing against Trump demanded to know why Hinojosa would support Trump, blasting him for recent immigration raids that left children unattended. Many asked why she had shown up at all. She answered that she believed in freedom of speech and refused to engage in the arguments. Speakers addressing the large crowd included Sister Mary Beth Moore, who works with immigrants in Hampton Bays through the Centro Corazon de Maria; she was arrested recently for protesting treatment of children at the border.
“The hate must stop,” she said, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Ghandi. “We must be endlessly creative to stop the hate.”
Activist Jackie Gavron questioned the voting record of GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, who was expected to accompany Trump Friday. Despite his “boyish, mild-mannered” demeanor, Gavron said, Zeldin is a “right-wing extremist” who votes against background checks on gun purchases and a ban on assault rifles, even after recent mass shootings.
Tumblr media
Others driving by, however, shouted, “Trump 2020!” and “Trump is No. 1!”
Trump was to depart Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton at 3:50 p.m., headed for his golf club in New Jersey.
Word of the fundraisers had sparked a backlash, with some critics turning to social media to say that they are boycotting Ross’s businesses.
“Hamptons SoulCycle users — time to change where you work out if you’re against caging children, destroying the planet, and slaughtering our fellow citizens with military weaponry,” Kate Mueth of East Hampton wrote on social media this week. But according to a post in the Daily Beast, SoulCycle’s chief executive officer offered free “social justice” rides to “customers for causes hand-picked by each of her hundreds of instructors.” CEO Melanie Whelan called the week a “difficult” one, the post said.
Protesters have been mobilizing for Trump’s Long Island visit since it was announced.
“This rally is critically important because right now our nation’s democracy and even its sense of humanity are under serious threat,” said Amy Turner, one of the organizers of the “Rally to Save America, Stop Hate” rally. “We must stand up for our values and and against Trump’s blatant racism and provocation of hatred, the inhumane treatment of migrants, the refusal to protect our elections from foreign interference, and the dismantling of environmental regulation.”
Model Chrissy Teigen and comedian Billy Eichner both took to social media to encourage Equinox and SoulCycle members to cancel their gym memberships.
Kenny Stills, a wide receiver on the Ross-owned Miami Dolphins, took his employer to task over perceived hypocrisy regarding the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality. The charity seeks to use sports to eliminate racial discrimination and “improve race relations,” according to its website. Stills is an outspoken critic of the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick, who has been kept out of the league since protesting police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem.
“You can’t have a non-profit with this mission statement then open your doors to Trump,” Stills tweeted Wednesday.
Stills said he’s received death threats on social media because of his stance.
Heading to the Hamptons. Pres Trump departs WH this morning en route two big money fundraisers in the tony East end of Long Island. Expected to raise $10-million for his campaign and RNC, though causing some headaches for event host Stephen Ross and his fitness firms.

Trump supporters welcome President
Despite the protest, many on the East End are thrilled that Trump is visiting their hometown. “Welcome to the Hamptons, President Trump,” one woman wrote on Facebook.
Added another, also on Facebook: “Love my President!
Traffic woes
Residents bemoaned potential traffic impacts of Trump’s visit to the Hamptons. Southampton Town Police said that while exact locations have not been divulged by the Secret Service, motorists should expect road closures throughout the day.
“We’re just not sure when or where,” police said. ‘The times and locations are confidential.”
One man said on Facebook that he is avoiding the traffic altogether: “Time to stay home,” he wrote. “Not dealing with the traffic and road closures.”
But police said they anticipate any disruptions to traffic flow to dissipate quickly, with the president moved expeditiously where he needs to go.
Protestors slam Zeldin
Tumblr media
Those protesting also voiced their frustration with Zeldin, who also accompanied Trump through a round of campaign fundraisers last summer.
“I hope that tomorrow’s peaceful protest brings Mr. Zeldin to be aware of the concerns of a large portion of his constituents,” organizer Kate Mueth said. “We deeply need to have in person, open and problem-solving discussions in town hall gatherings so we can find ways to come together and work to address these most urgent concerns. I would love to see him leaning in and coming to the table of solutions.”
Mueth also said the practice of coming together to stand against actions, tactics and positions the government is taking is a fundamental American right.
“We will not sit idly by but instead we will demand action on the reckless lack of governance that is making guns too easy to acquire to slaughter our innocent citizens. Lee Zeldin takes a load of dollars from the NRA, that’s one more problem with Mr. Zeldin. We shall not sit idly by while the stewardship of our planet goes to waste and is blatantly harmed for greed and laziness’ sake.”
Zeldin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
It’s not the first time Trump’s visits to the East End and Long Island made headlines: Last year, Trump arrived on Air Force One at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton, and his visit sparked both strong protests and steadfast shows of support.
Trump visited Long Island to blast deadly MS-13 street gang
Trump has also visited Long Island twice in recent years to take a tough stance against gang violence, blasting MS-13 and its trail of death, brutality and destruction across the nation.
Trump spoke at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage, blasting the violent street gang and promising to rid gang-ravaged Long Island communities of the “animals” on their streets during a visit to the island.
Sen. Chuck Schumer fired back on Twitter, saying, “When all of our great-great-grandparents came to America they weren’t ‘animals,’ and these people aren’t either.”
The gruesome discovery in a Central Islip park in April 2017 of four young men murdered by MS-13 members brought an international spotlight to Suffolk County, with elected officials and law enforcement vowing to fight back.
In 2017, the president spoke in Brentwood, where two teen girls were brutally murdered by MS-13 members in 2016.
“They butchered those little girls,” Trump said. “They kidnap. They extort. They rape and they rob. They prey on children. They shouldn’t be here.” The president also said the gang had transformed Long Island’s “peaceful parks and beautiful, quiet neighborhoods into blood-stained killing fields.”

— Page Six Emily (@PageSixEmily) August 9, 2019
Looking ahead, protesters said action is needed, including voter registration, that those registered as Independence Party members should become Democrats with an eye toward unity, and longer hours for the Board of Elections.
Two men standing across the road refused to say whether or not they were Trump supporters. When asked, one said, “Even if I were, I wouldn’t say it now.”

Stair Railing Suffolk County
Every thing You need to Know Before Installing Wooden Stairs Inside your Home
Classy, posh, sophisticated and effortlessly fashionable are only a few ways to express the impact of installing wooden stairs in your home. Wood is by far, among the very best materials for staircases that have been attempted and tested via centuries. However, prior to calling your nearby stair builders to install suitable options inside your premises, right here are a couple of things that you need to keep in thoughts so as to stay safe in the flip side of wood stairs…
• Be prepared for upfront costs - Stair Railing Suffolk County can get expensive. Based upon the nature and quality of wood, you are able to anticipate to invest anyplace from 100$ to 200$ per step. And based upon the number of steps that you require, you can expect the expenses to be somewhere around 4000$ or more for high quality wood and high quality workmanship.
• Customization - If you want your staircase to appear different from all other people, you can usually request customized solutions from reputed and reliable providers like these offering services for wood stairs installation Suffolk County NY. In this case, there's no doubt that you will have the very best and the most unique staircase in your house, but you might have to spend much higher expenses.
• Carpet Vs no carpet - The following big query is whether or not to carpet your wood stairs or not. Considering that wooden staircases can get slippery, carpeting them can provide heightened protection to users from unfortunate situations. The only flipside is, the process of removing the carpet later can cause harm to the wood particularly if it has been glued to stay in place.

What Is The Average Cost Of Metal Roof Per Square Foot?
If you’re thinking about putting a new metal roof on top of your home, then you likely have many questions. One stands out above the rest though, and that is just what will a new metal roof cost you? Given that metal is considered a premium material for roofing purposes, you can generally assume that a metal roof will cost double to even triple what a good installation of asphalt shingles would run you.
In general, metal roofing will run you anywhere from $6 to $13 per square foot. That is admittedly a broad range of pricing, but there are more specific breakdowns that can be had. A metal shingle roof is likely to run you $7 to $10 per square foot once installed. On the other hand, a standing seam style metal roof should run from $9 to $12 per square foot.
If you want something cheaper that is still metal, then look at a corrugated steel roof, which is probably going to be as low as $3 per square foot, although as much as twice that. That price will depend on the thickness of the metal, which is measured in gauges for steel materials but done in mils when aluminum is used. The paint finish also comes into play, as acrylic or Kynar can both be used.
In addition to materials, installation is also likely to cost you more than an asphalt shingle installation would run. Metal roofing requires specialized skills, custom equipment, and professional expertise that asphalt shingle crews might not have. Other factors that go into the cost of installing a metal roof include the size of your home, your local labor and contractor market, and the specific complexity your roof features.
In general, it is going to take three times longer for a metal roof to be installed as compared to an asphalt shingle roof, so be prepared to live through the extended work.
The reason you want a metal roof and how long you intend to keep a home also factor into the long-term cost estimates and impact. If you plan on staying in your home for a long time, then metal provides incredible value as it features tremendous durability and little need for upkeep. On the other hand, if you are looking to boost home value for resale, then check with a realty professional about how much a metal roof does for property values in your area and whether or not local home buyers would rather have that than asphalt.

renegade cyclist
Renegade Cyclist
Jamie Swan has done and seen it all for cycling on Long Island and isn’t hitting the brakes
Words: Casey Dooley | Photos: Matt Furman
Brazed steel. It’s the easiest type of bike frame to build. A common building toolkit is simply an oxy acetylene torch, a solid work bench with a vice, some files (like 6 well chosen), a hacksaw and an electric drill. Whether it’s the best material or not is a matter of endless debate and misses the point. The means are bare-bones and beyond tools the only necessity is some knowledge and the desire to gain more. So what did Jamie Swan learn from building his first steel frame?
“The biggest lesson: learn how to fucking braze,” he laughed. Brazing—adhering steel together using a melted alloy—it turns out, is a key step in building a brazed steel bike. But Swan also learned that if you want to start building bikes, just start building and you can gain a tremendous amount of knowledge. “Learn the skills without fancy tools, those you can add over time.”
Swan belongs to that dying breed of the self-made journeyman for whom experience and passion exceeds classroom hours and grades. Where spit, grit, and do-it-yourselfedness is the far superior mentor. Swan’s passion just so happened to reside in the world’s most efficient means of travel: the bicycle.
The cycling fates aligned for Swan in the early 70s; just as the 10-speed bike explosion hit, Swan landed his first job—working at a bike shop in Farmingdale. “This was before I had my driver’s license [and] that really opened my eyes, working at the bike shop and visiting other shops” It was a true testament to his bourgeoning passion that Swan pursued bike racing, a fringe sport at the time. “Racing has always been kinda underground…when I started racing, you’d go into a deli with your funny shorts and your clip clop shoes, you were likely to get beat up, people were like ‘who is this fucking freak,’ ... you were menaced on a regular basis.” But persistence pays off.
Around the same time he was racing, Swan also began his lucrative wheel building empire. He’d show up to races, his car brimming with laced hoops and he would sling them like a hot dog vendor at Wrigley. There have been some serious wins on wheels built by Jamie Swan—a few state and national championships, by Swan’s estimation, and he’s pretty sure US Bicycle Hall of Famer Mike McCarthy won a world criterium championship on rims he built (he’ll have to ask next time he sees him.) And while he thinks George Hincapie road on a pair in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he’s positive that the national champ of Poland did.
Wheel building was such a cash cow for Swan, that in 1981, he was able to plop down near forty grand cash for his Northport home and backyard studio where he currently resides and tinkers. He’s never had a mortgage.
Around the same time, Swan also was engaged in track racing. But the bike he was riding was too small. And besides, Swan also needed a bike to suit the, let’s say, unique features of Queens’ Kissena track in the early 80s.
“It’s a shitty track,” Swan said of the early velodrome. And they say necessity is the mother of invention. (Swan did add that it’s a great place to start track racing now, with a wonderful, welcoming grassroots program.)
“Track bikes built for really good tracks don’t work well there, so this bike, I knew enough to design it for that track, so it worked really well … I would call [what I did to the bike] like detuning,” Swan explained. Regular track bikes tend to have a very short wheelbase with very stiff, steep angles, higher bottom brackets and stiff tubing. “[So] the thing is like a fucking board— you step on it and it goes and the handling is very, very twitchy.”
"Racing has always been kinda underground...when I started racing, you'd go into a deli with your funny shorts and your clip clop shoes, you were likely to get beat up, people were like 'who is this fucking freak,'... you were menaced on a regular basis"
But at Kissena, you want to soften all those things: “ You want to make the bottom bracket a little lower, the chain stays a little longer, the angles a little softer...it gets closer to a traditional road racing bike…  [with my bike] my ability to place or win went up dramatically, so I could be where I wanted to be in the field and I’m not fighting the track.” It was the first bike frame Swan had built.
And when he wasn’t battling the velodrome banks and bumps in Flushing, in the 90s he was engaging skirmishes in basements and board rooms across Long Island for the right to ride in the woods.  Swan is one of the founding members of CLIMB, Long Island’s first and only mountain biking club.
At the time there was a significant legal threat to cyclists riding on trails. The best tactic was a show of camaraderie “We made friends with other user groups: Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, Nassau-Suffolk Horsemen’s Association,” said Swan. “I started a thing called Long Island Trails Coalition, meeting once a month to talk about each park [with] the Parks Department, NY State Department, different land management agencies...all of them were getting phone calls about ‘getting those fucking bikers off the trails.’”
The battle eventually made it all the way to the Senate (well sort of) where, surprisingly, cooler heads prevailed. “I was talking to the head of the DEC [Dept. of Environmental Conservation], Senator Owen Johnson, trying to get Rocky Point [Pine Barrens State Forest].” During the conversation, the senator, who was at the time a leading figure in the DEC stopped and said, “Wait, are you guys telling me that all you want do is ride bicycles around in the woods? I thought you were from a motorcycle organization…Let me make a phone call.” The rest is history and there are now 18 official trails open.
These days (besides lending technical support to and teaching at a local trade college), Swan’s attention is focused on randonneuring or “rando” riding, what he affectionately refers to as a “scene for old guys like me.” It’s long-distance unsupported light touring and actually dates back to turn-of-the-century Italian day-long sport races (though the name is French).  Put it another way, if gravel grinding is the new kid on the block, then rando is it’s godfather (and cyclocross is an uncle or something.) In fact, often the difference between the two comes down to fenders and well-placed bike racks.
Swan’s most recent bike build was a rando frame purpose built to run in the Deerfield Dirt Field Randonnee bike ride, an 116-mile, dirt-road loop in the hilltowns of Franklin County, MA. “They’re designed to carry a little bit of weight...but you can’t go on a camping trip with a rando bike… you can got motel touring, though. Randos are built for weight up front. You lift this bike up and it feels like a lump of shit, but handles light and fast…this bike is really set up for that event.” It’s easy on the eyes too, having recently won at the North American Bike Show against some of the best randos in the world. It was only his 19th frame built.
Swan constructs about one bicycle a year, ten of which have been for customers, the rest were personal use. It’s a not a large volume by any means, but what he lacks in output he’s made up for with wisdom gained by drawing on decades of experience as a bike repairman and racer, and from old-fashioned tinkering in his home work space.
And Swan’s skill and respect amongst the building community go way beyond the frames he’s built. He’s always stayed actively engaged and has a group of about 80 New York-area builders, mostly hobbyists and newbies, that he meets with at his work studio about once a month. Free lessons are offered and mainly it’s shop talk and bullshitting, like Fight Club for frame makers, but no one gets pummeled and it’s most definitely not a public offering. The secret password? “Have you built a bike frame?” Answer: “Yes.” Response: “Okay, You’re in.” (Though you also need to know the list server and, sorry, it’s not Swan.)
And just how does Swan choose the bike projects he does work on, when he’s not building for himself? “Its gonna be hard to articulate without me sounding like an asshole…it’s like I have to kinda dig the person and where they’re at. I get a lot of requests from people who don’t know a thing about bikes, and I don’t know, I just can’t get into it. You need to really, really know, like most of the people I build bikes for have been in it as long as I have and they really, really understand it, and they’re coming to me over another frame builder for a reason. It takes months ...and you have to spend a long time with these people.”
Swan will usually ask potential customers one question:  Why are you coming to me?
It’s not about judgement but respect, and not for him, but for the process. He’s been at the bike game more than 40 years, so it’s more than mere hobby by now, it’s a way of life. You have to approach the process with a reverence or at the very least an honest enthusiasm tempered withsome hard-earned knowledge.
It was clear without asking that I wouldn’t be getting a Jamie Swan original anytime soon; maybe 10-20 years down the road when I’ve gained just a bit more knowledge and experience in the bike saddle. I’m not worried, I’m sure he’ll still be at it; maybe he’ll have even moved on to building with carbon fiber by then. But I doubt it.

Amenia Farmhouse in Dutchess County, NY
Sep 14, 2020
Amenia Farmhouse
Architect: Jill Porter
Location: New York State, USA
Amenia Farmhouseis located on a pastoral piece of property in Amenia, NY, this 200 year old farmhouse oozes with charm and grace. Old timbers line the ceilings, wide floorboards are worn by decades of use, and eccentric moments are scattered throughout. Although stately and proud, the existing home showed its age: walls sagged, floors sloped, and an illconceived addition felt like a disjointed accessory. Perhaps most notably, the home lacked any relationship to the beautiful property. Rather, the home cocooned its users in intimate, dark interiors — charming on a snowy winter day, but less so on a glorious summer evening.
Jill Porter’s clients, Alex and Brian Tart, bought the farmhouse in 2000 as a country getaway from New York City. Over the course of many summers and weekends in the country, they developed a deep love for their home. They were committed to preserving everything they cherished about the house, but wanted to undertake a renovation that added modern living spaces and connected the house to the beautiful property.
To this end, the renovation goals were threefold: • design an addition that reflects a modern way of living while remaining deferential to the age, grace, and layout of the existing home; • orient the interior and exterior of the house outward towards the pastoral property; • fortify the exiting structure.
Remaining deferential to the existing home determined every design move, from the size and height of the addition, to the materials used inside and out. In both height and width, the addition never outcompetes the existing structure, and the materials selected compliment the feel of the existing home without relying on nostalgia. For example, rather than copy the existing twelve-over-eight white double hung windows, we selected black windows with minimal divisions. The juxtaposition between the two window styles is subtle, but gives the addition a modern hue.
Windows were sized and grouped strategically to capture long pastoral views, as well as intimate views of the gardens and mature trees. In the kitchen, for example, we eliminated upper cabinets in favor of a large array of windows that not only flood the kitchen with natural light, but frame a regal, old maple tree; in the master bedroom, we used oversized double hung windows to match the scale and expanse of the view. In general, interiors were crisply detailed and furnished with a light touch, resulting in modern, airy spaces.
The exterior spaces were also carefully considered. Alex and Brian wanted a screenedin porch for dining, and an outdoor living area. The wraparound porch not only provides both, but firmly orients the house towards the open fields, large vegetable garden, and pool beyond. Furthermore, the porch helps stitch together the old with the new; the porch roof extends over the entry and kitchen, hugging both sides of the existing home.
In total, our addition included: • First floor — dining, kitchen, living area, laundry, mudroom, • Second floor — master bedroom, master bathroom, new stairwell opening, and new stairway to third floor • Outdoor — entry porch, wraparound deck, screened-in porch, outdoor closet (for garden tools, sports equipment, etc.
Lastly, adding onto such an old structure required a deft hand, as we had to stitch together the old timber frame structure with the addition. As we started to peal away walls, siding, and floorboards, problems with the old structure revealed themselves. Alex and Brian worked with the contractor to reinforce floor joists, install tie rods to support to the roof, and repair the building envelope, ensuring the house will stand for another 200 years.
