By the fire
javier escuella x reader
summary: one calm evening you find javier — the newest addition to the gang — sitting alone by the campfire. despite the language barrier still being there, the man finds a way to charm you

♡this was requested!♡
a/n: the song is made up cus i couldn't find any existing song that fit, it's actually a poem i once wrote about a girl i had a crush on lmao this is happening sometime shortly after javier has joined the gang because i thought it'd be cute if y'all didn't know each other's language lol if you know spanish my bad just pretend you don't i guess, but i'd love to write latina reader sometime too
The gang has put up their camp somewhere in the state of Colorado. The day had been tiring, as it always is when you're moving, and everyone must have been wishing for the moment they can finally go to sleep. It didn't surprise you when before midnight everyone had already retreated to their tents or wherever they slept.
Everyone, except for one person. Your eyes caught a glimpse of a silhouette sitting by the scouting fire, away from the center of the camp. The night was dark, but judging by the guitar resting in his lap, you assumed it was Javier.
"You good?" You approached, sitting down next to him. Thankfully, you didn't have to sit on the bare ground, because Pearson had made those rugs of goat skin.
Javier looked up at you, his fingers momentarily stopping their movement on the strings. "Sí, sí, just... muy tired, you know?"
"Me too," you replied, leaning back and stretching your legs out, "me too..."
Javier made so much progress these past few months he's been running with the gang. The day Dutch had brought him into the camp, you wondered how did they even manage to communicate, maybe Dutch did speak some Spanish after all.
"And how are you..." you tried to search for a simple word, but none came easily, "adjusting? Adjusting as... how do you holding up, living with us?"
"Is good, más good than life on my own. Alone is no good. Here with you all I have food, place to sleep. And gente who care, I think."
"Of course we care," you smiled at him, "honestly, I can't imagine the gang without you and your music now."
His lips twitched with a playful smile. "I keep playing then?"
"Yes, please, I'd love to hear more."
"What you want to hear, querida?"
You paused, considering his question. Truth be told, you just loved to hear him play. It didn't matter what the song was about. Most of the time, you didn't even know since he sang in Spanish, so you would catch a few words at most.
So you gave him the choice. "You choose."
Javier's grin widened, and his eyes glistened with a brilliant idea. He adjusted the guitar in his lap, strumming a few notes before looking back at you.
"You know, in Mexico when a man has something to say... something from... el corazón," he placed a hand over his chest, "he sings."
"And what do you have to say, Javier?" You asked, feeling warmth cover you both from the fire, and from this tingling, warm feeling inside your chest.
But instead of answering your question, Javier started playing the guitar. Soft notes of the instrument filled your ears again, and you subconciously smiled wider, even allowing yourself to close your eyes for a moment.
And then, when you thought it can't get any better, Javier started singing. "¿Cómo puedo empezar a decir lo que siento, si mi corazón se detiene al escuchar tu nombre?"
[How can I start to say what I feel, if my heart stops when I hear your name?]
The melody was light, but you could feel he's singing about something that held big significance to him.
He continued, "Quiero perderme en las estrellas de tus ojos, y contigo no quiero esperar al amanecer."
[I want to get lost in the stars of your eyes, and with you I don't want to wait for the sunrise.]
You didn't understand every word, most of them you didn't understand, but the emotion behind them was overwhelming. Javier's words, whatever they meant, reached right into your chest, gently eveloping your heart.
"Dejemos que la luna nos muestre el camino, no hay prisa, solo el latido de nuestros corazones. Contigo, no necesito respuestas, porque tú eres la verdad que siempre he buscado."
[Let the moon show us the way, there is no hurry, only the beat of our hearts. With you, I don’t need answers, because you are the truth I have always looked for.]
The last note faded away, the night became quiet once again, and you opened your eyes, looking at Javier.
"What you think?" He asked.
You struggled to find words that could match the beauty of what he had just shared. "Javier, I..." you shook your head, smiling, "I think that, even if I didn't understand it, I felt it. In my el corazón."
Javier chuckled at your attempt at Spanish, "Maybe next time I teach you the meaning."
You smiled. "I'd like that."
For a while, neither of you said anything more. The quiet night wrapped around the two of you as Javier continued playing some notes on the guitar but none of them hitting you as hard as the song he sang just for you.
"By the way," he decided to speak again, "you don't add el after my. Is just mi corazón."
"Ah, I butchered it." You laughed with embarrassment, even though you knew he didn't correct you to be mean.
He found it very endearing. "No, no, is just... if you want to learn, you learn correct, sí?"
"Fine, fine," you took a deep breath, exaggerating your effort, "mi corazón." You nailed the pronounciation almost perfectly.
"Muy bien," he said, giving an approving nod, "now try gracias, Javier, tú eres el mejor."
You let out a fake groan of annoyance, having an idea what this phrase could mean. "Really?"
"What?" He raised his hands up in a mock innocence. "Is good practice!"
You rolled your eyes playfully but obliged. "Gracias, Javier. Tú eres el mejor."
"Perfecto! See? You learn fast." He applauded you for the effort, clearly very amused.
You sat there with Javier a little longer, the warmth of the fire spreading between you, but it was the warmth of his smile, his laugh, and his song that stayed with you long after you retreated to your tent.

IN LIFE, IN DEATH...
Part One
Luke Patterson x Fem!reader
Summary: All you wanted was to play the biggest gig of your life with your best friends, but you just might get more than you bargained for.
Warnings: death and some swearing (I don’t think there is anything else but if there is, let me know!)
…
May 1994
“Shit.”
You whispered to yourself as you stared at the old clock on the diner’s wall.
It had only been half an hour since your shift started, but you were already anxious for it to be over.
Cece’s diner was normally one of your favorite places in the world. It was a small, poorly lit building in a boring part of L.A. It didn’t see much business since it wasn’t easy to find. But the air always smelled like fresh coffee and cinnamon.
You loved working there, but it was not where you wanted to be right now.
“You okay, (Y/n)?” A voice asked from behind the counter. You turned to see your boss Cece, a petite middle-aged woman who was eyeing the dirty table in front of you that you were supposed to be cleaning.
“Yeah, sorry. My mind is somewhere else.” You admitted, throwing the empty plates in the tray and carrying them to the kitchen.
Cece shook her head and let out a laugh as she followed. “On a certain guitarist, perhaps?”
Your cheeks flushed and Cece laughed again, grabbing the rag off her shoulder and smacking it against your arm lightly.
She was one of the few people who knew about your feelings for Luke Patterson. One of your best friends, childhood crush, and most recently, your bandmate.
“And for your information, I’m thinking about all of the band because we’re practicing tonight.”
“Uh-huh.” Cece hummed, a sly smile on her face.
She always pretended to be annoyed with your ramblings since you joined sunset curve, saying that a sixteen-year-old girl had no business being in a rock band. But you had caught her bragging about you to the few regulars you had multiple times.
She had a son living a few states away, but they weren’t close. So she treated you like her daughter. Which meant she wasn't the biggest fan of you constantly hanging around a bunch of teenage boys. But eventually, she warmed up to them. Especially Alex; he was her favorite.
Luke, on the other hand, annoyed her to no end.
You ran the dishes under hot water and pressed a kiss to Cece’s cheek as you walked past her and back into the main room.
“Besides, Luke doesn’t like me like that.”
Cece rolled her eyes and opened her mouth to speak but the shrill ring of the phone cut her off. You let out a sigh, grateful for the distraction. She meant well, but when it came to your situation with Luke, you were more than happy to live in denial and ignoring it altogether.
He was your best friend. That’s all that mattered right now.
You shook the thoughts from your head and grabbed the phone’s receiver. “Cece’s Diner. How can I help you?”
“How much do you love me?”
Speak of the devil.
Your heart raced at the sound of Luke’s voice rang through your ears. His choice of words definitely not helping to calm you down. You shook your head, mentally scolding yourself.
“Luke?” You asked which prompted Cece to raise an eyebrow from the other side of the room.
“Hey. I’m sorry for calling you at work but I can’t finish this song and it’s driving me nuts. I need you and your genius brain to come help me.”
Despite your protests, the tap dance in your chest continued. It was ridiculous that after knowing Luke all your life, you were still shocked when he complimented you like that.
“I don’t get off until six, but I’ll come after.” You said, trying not to smile when you heard him cheer in victory. “And before Reggie asks, yes, I’ll bring coffee.”
Luke laughed before singing into the phone. “Get me a large with extra whipped cream and cinnamon.”
“I hate you.” You sang back, making a mental note to wipe off the smirk you could practically hear in his voice before the line went dead. You sighed as you put the phone back on the hook, holding a finger out to Cece.
“Not a word.”
A few hours later, you walked into Bobby’s garage, carrying a cardboard tray in each arm.
You sighed as you looked around the room. Every surface was covered in discarded paper balls and empty fast-food wrappers. You had expected to hear some form of music or at least some talking but the room was dead silent.
In the center of the mess, Alex and Reggie sat on the floor. Alex was trying to balance his drumsticks on his nose, and Reggie was mindlessly strumming his bass. Luke was sitting back on the couch, his eyebrows tightly knitted together as he frantically scribbled into his notebook.
“Your savior is here, and I come bearing coffee.”
All three heads whipped in your direction and within seconds, Reggie was excitedly bouncing his way towards you. He reached out to swipe a cup from the tray in your left hand. You swatted his arm away.
"Not that one. That’s Al’s.”
You set the rest of the drinks on the table in front of you and walked up to Alex. You handed him the cup and he gave you an appreciative smile. You always made sure to get him hot chocolate or tea, since you learned the hard way that caffeine can sometimes make his anxiety worse. He told you he didn’t want to admit that to the guys. So you were happy covering for him.
“Why does he get his own special one?” Reggie pouted as he grabbed another cup and strolled over to Luke, plopping down next to him on the couch. “And why is she the only one who can call you ‘Al’?”
“Because I’m his favorite.” You said, poking Reggie’s cheek as you passed him and took the other seat on the couch next to Luke. Alex just nodded, trying to hold back a smile.
“I thought you didn’t get off for another hour.” Luke said, looking up from his songbook for the first time since you got there.
“Cece knew it was important band stuff so she let me off early.” You shrugged.
“Oh no, she’s not mad at me, is she?” Luke shivered, thinking of all the times Cece had chewed him out for being a ‘bad influence’ on you or made him wipe down some tables for accidentally making you late for a shift. “You know I can’t stand when that woman is mad at me.”
“I also know that all you have to do is give her your little puppy-dog look and she’ll instantly forgive you.”
“Yeah, you guys are alike that way.” Luke teased, sticking his bottom lip out and batting his eyes dramatically.
“Yeah, yeah. So, what have you got so far?” You said as you bumped his shoulder with yours. He grinned and started translating his messy handwriting for all of you.
The four of you sat there for an hour putting all the words in the right places and by the time Bobby got there, you all felt confident that it was finally finished. You took your place behind your microphone and nodded.
“Okay, Al. Count us down.”
Alex twirled his drumsticks. “1…2…3…4!”
June, 1995
“Don’t look down.”
You couldn’t help but smile as you sang the song you had written a year ago. Your feet bouncing on the stage, the thin layer of sweat on your forehead.
To your left, Luke raised his arms, trying to hype up the non-existent crowd. Alex clashed his drumsticks together to the beat as all your voices came together.
“Cause we’re still rising up right now.”
You clapped along to the song, the energy coursing through your veins. Luke was in the middle of throwing his guitar behind his back. You rolled your eyes at him and he flashed you a small bashful smile before turning his head.
Your heart fluttered but you forced yourself to turn the other way, singing with Reggie just as the song transferred out of the bridge. The fog machines cued the ending chorus and you gripped your microphone with both hands.
“And even if we hit the ground, we’ll still fly.
Keep dreaming like we’ll live forever.
But living like it’s now or never.“
The other boy's voices dropped out until it was just you and Luke singing the chorus. You looked over at him, but his eyes were glued to the front of the room. Normally, you would share a mic for this part or at least stand close together, but he seemed determined to avoid you.
Just like he had been for the last six months.
You ignored the gaping pit in your stomach and poured all your focus into the song.
“Like it’s now or never!
It’s now or never!“
The final riff sounded and you let out an exhausted but proud sigh. There were a few scattered claps from the staff in the venue. But a curly-haired girl behind the counter was cheering especially loud. Reggie winked at her and leaned into his mic.
“Thank you! We’re Sunset Curve. Tell your friends.”
You rolled your eyes at him and pulled his arm, dragging him to the center of the stage. Alex came from his drum set and you gave him a high five.
“Al, you were amazing!”
“Yeah, dude, you were smoking.” Reggie agreed.
Alex blushed. “Nah, man. I was just warming up. You guys were the ones on fire.”
Reggie rolled his eyes. “Can you just own your awesomeness for once?”
Bobby and Luke nodded in agreement and you raised your eyebrows at Alex, nudging him until he finally smiled. “Okay, I was killing it!”
“I’m thinking we should fuel up before the show. Street dogs?” Luke asked. Alex and Reggie hummed in agreement but you wrinkled your nose.
“I think I’m gonna pass.” You said, jumping off the stage. It wasn’t that you had anything against street dogs, but as far as pre-gig activities go, it didn’t make your top ten list.
Bobby landed next to you and started jogging towards the counter. He ran a hand through his sweaty hair and approached the girl wiping tables.
“Oh no.” You said. “Bobby, leave that poor girl alone.”
Bobby turned around just enough to give you a glare as you both reached the counter. The rest of the boys weren’t far behind. You felt Luke slip behind you and throw an arm on Bobby’s shoulder.
Bobby told the girl some line about being a vegetarian. But she shook it off, looking over all of you.
“You guys are really good.”
You smiled proudly. “Thank you.”
She returned your smile. “I’ve seen a lot of bands. Even been in a couple myself. I was really feeling it.”
Luke was practically beaming. The whole band contributed with the songs, of course, but you and Luke were the main writers, so it was always nice to hear people compliment your words. “That’s what we do this for. I’m Luke, by the way.”
“Hey, I’m Reggie.”
“Alex.”
“Bobby.”
“And I’m (Y/n).”
“Nice to meet you guys. I’m Rose.” She said, turning to you. “You have a great voice, by the way. It’s always cool to see a girl lead vocalist.”
Bobby snorted. You elbowed him and Luke gave him a wet-willy. “Oh, thank you. But I’m just co-lead.”
She opened her mouth to say something else but Reggie reached in his back pocket and pulled out a C.D and a t-shirt, handing them to her. “Here’s our demo, and a T-shirt, size beautiful.”
As if on cue, you and Alex rolled your eyes. You sent Rose an apologetic look as she held the shirt up to her body.
“Thanks, I’ll try not to wipe down the tables with this one.”
Alex nodded. “Good call! When they get wet, they kind of fall apart in your hands.”
Bobby glared at all of you. “Don’t you guys have to go get hot dogs?”
Luke pushed Bobby back and leaned on the counter with both arms. “Yeah, he had a hamburger for lunch.”
The boys started going towards the exit but stopped when Alex noticed you hesitating. “You coming?”
You really didn’t want hotdogs, but you also didn’t want to stay and listen to Bobby attempt to flirt with Rose. So you nodded and followed Alex to the door.
“Hey, (Y/n)!” Rose called out and you turned around. “Don’t sell yourself short.”
You gave her a warm smile before walking out into the alley. The night air hit your skin and you shivered slightly. It wasn’t cold, but it was definitely a change from the sweaty stage. You wrapped your jacket around your shoulders.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Luke whooped as he jumped through the doors and into the alleyway.
Alex gestured around, wrinkling his nose. “The smell of Sunset Boulevard?”
Luke shoved his shoulder. “No.”
You jumped out of the way as Luke splashed in a puddle. “It’s what that girl said in there. About our music.”
His eyes flickered to you when he said ‘our’ but quickly looked away. It was practically the first time he had acknowledged your presence all night.
“It connects us with people, you know? They can feel us when we play.” He said excitedly, slowing his walking until the rest of you caught up with him.
He reached each arm up and pulled Reggie to his side with one arm and despite being right next to you, he pulled Alex to his other side. You turned your head forward to hide the confused look on your face but you knew Alex saw it.
Other than Cece, he was the only person who knew about your feelings for Luke. You could tell from the look on his face that he was just as confused with Luke’s recent behavior as you were, but he didn’t say anything.
“I want that connection with everybody.”
“Then we’re gonna need more T-shirts.” You heard Reggie say as you reached the end of the alley. You pulled up the hood of your jacket and turned your head away from the line in front of the venue.
You didn't mean to walk so fast, but you were the first one at the alleyway a few blocks away from the Orpheum. You made your hotdog and made small talk with the vendor for a few minutes before the guys caught up.
“You trying to ditch us, (Y/n)?” Reggie asked, putting ingredients on his hotdog.
“Not my fault you guys are slow.” You stuck your tongue at him and he squinted at you. Alex groaned. You looked over at him to see him trying to put a pickle on his tray.
“Man, I can’t wait until the day we can eat someplace where the condiments aren’t served out of the back of an Oldsmobile.”
As he apologized to the vendor for getting pickle juice on his battery cables, you, Luke, and Reggie made your way to one of the old couches. They both sat down, leaving one open space next to Luke.
You made a point of sitting on the arm of the couch, letting your feet dangle on the seat. If Luke was going to avoid you, then you were going to avoid him right back. You also avoided the questioning look Reggie gave you before Alex sat down.
Luke didn’t seem to notice. He was bouncing his leg and couldn’t seem to stop smiling, it was obvious that he was still buzzing with energy from the soundcheck.
“This is awesome, you guys.” He said as he made himself comfortable between Reggie and Alex. “We’re playing the Orpheum! Do you know how many bands that played here ended up being huge?”
You rolled your eyes and smiled while the boys chuckled. You were all used to seeing the intense side of Luke, but he had been an even bigger ball of excited energy ever since you booked the Orpheum gig. It could be a little much for the guys sometimes, but the way his eyes lit up when he talked about music never failed to make you smile.
“I’m serious.” Luke insisted as he leaned forward and raised his hotdog in a toast. “Eat up, guys. Because after tonight, everything changes.”
You all toasted and then started to eat. Usually, street dogs weren’t half bad. But this time there was a burnt, nasty flavor that made it hard to swallow. Alex saw your face and nodded in agreement.
Even Luke, who had a super-human stomach, made a face. But his hunger must’ve won out cause he took another big bite.
“That’s a new flavor.” Alex said with his mouth full.
“Relax, man. Street dogs haven’t killed us yet.” Reggie told him as he took another bite. You still didn’t feel one hundred percent confident about it but you shrugged and kept eating.
It all happened so fast.
At first, it felt like you were dreaming. Like maybe you had just fallen asleep and would eventually wake up and realize that everything was just a nightmare.
But then the outline of Los Angeles floated away in a haze of grey and you were left in the dark. There was nothing but silence until you heard a voice somewhere in front of you.
It was the sound of Alex’s frantic ranting.
You could feel Reggie and Luke next to you, but they didn’t say anything. You didn’t either.
But you didn’t really need to. It was glaringly obvious what happened, you could feel it in your bones.
You were dead.
Alex’s ranting slowly turned into crying, which made you cry. Luke heard your quiet sniffles and for the first time in months, he touched you.
He reached out and intertwined your fingers loosely in his, gently swiping his thumb across your knuckles. You closed your eyes, trying to soak up the feeling. This was the closest to him you had been in since that night in the studio.
It seemed like so long ago, but at the same time, it was all too familiar. You knew that if you stayed in this moment with him any longer, you would fall apart completely.
So you turned away from him and buried your head in Alex’s shoulder. It seemed like hours passed before the silence was broken and the opening of Now or Never filled the air.
“Is that…?” You started, but before you could finish, the floor disappeared from under you.
You hit the ground with a painful groan and blinked at the sudden flood of bright light. You felt movement next to you and saw Reggie struggling to get up.
You hauled yourself up and turned around to realize you were back in Bobby’s garage. It looked so different that you almost didn’t recognize it. There was a new grand piano and flowers on every table. The room was free of any trash or discarded flannels.
But the biggest change by far, was the girl standing in front of you.
She was about your age with brown hair tied in a ponytail, in a bright yellow shirt, and furry slippers. She was staring at the four of you with wide eyes and a terrified look on her face.
“How did we get back here?” Luke said as he scanned the studio.
The girl screamed, which made the boys scream and cling to each other. Reggie threw himself against Luke and pulled you behind him.
They all screamed for a few more seconds before the girl ran out of the garage doors. You cautiously walked out from behind Reggie and towards the middle of the room, spinning in a full circle.
The boys started talking but you were still mesmerized by all the changes made to the studio.
You looked up towards the ceiling and saw that there were chairs hanging by the loft and countless tiny plants by the windows but you could still see the nail polish-stain you had made on the carpet and the dents in the beams from all the times Luke had messed up his guitar throw.
Carefully, you reached towards the piano and tried to touch a vase of flowers but they passed right through your fingers. Your entire hand went numb then a tingly feeling spread throughout your body.
Well, two things were for sure.
You were definitely back, but you were definitely dead.

Rapture is a Boy (7)
Summary: Remus and you have always had a playful, loving relationship but his behavior around the full moon leads you to assume the worst. A huge fight ends with the two of you heartbroken. Will Remus reveal the truth behind his behavior? And will you still love him afterwards or has he truly lost you forever?
Young Remus Lupin x Reader(neutral)
Warning: cussing, some school taunting/bulling?(very brief and not anything super bad, like under the cut), ABBA mania/silliness
Authors Note: For best experience I have linked the song in the song title so you can listen while you read. I wrote this in a haze of excitement, it is just so silly but I have no trouble believing the Marauders would completely embarrass themselves like this for someone they love. Enjoy!
Word Count: 3.2k
Part One - Part Two - Part Three - Part Four - Part Five - Part Six - Part Seven - Part Eight
Part Seven
****Take A Chance On Me****
The great hall was silent, I had to actively keep my eyes off of the boys just a couple seats down. Lily was trying her hardest not to stare with longing and regret too. I placed my hand within hers and squeezed as if to say I’m here for you, and though it isn’t my fault, I’m sorry. She squeezed my hand back, returning the sentiments, and bounced back with a smile, pretending to be happier than she was. I wanted to roll my eyes at her change of mood but instead I appreciate the attempt to brighten the morning. You can always count on Lily Evans to empathize and surprise in every situation.
We heard it before we saw it. Loud, pulsing sound. As it got closer I couldn’t help the gasp that fell embarrassingly loud from my mouth. It was one of our favorite muggle bands, Abba, their song was blasting through corridors Take a Chance on Me, but there was no lyrics yet, just the background music as if waiting for the performers. Just like it had countless times before on karaoke nights with the marauders.
Suddenly, the great hall doors were slammed open by two large flying speakers, obviously charmed. A feeling of knowing washed over me and I whip my head towards the boys. Just in time to watch as they climb onto the table, their faces adorned with a beautiful blue color, Remus in gold.
Lily sucked in a deep breath beside me while watching James standing tall despite the spouts of laughter. Sirius throws off his robe, it lands on the head of a flabbergasted Gryffindor, Sirius is revealed to be wearing bright blue bell bottom sparkly pants, his white school button up is tucked underneath.
Remus was right after him, throwing off his robes and ripping off his shirt. Buttons flew onto the people around them but no one paid them any mind. All eyes were on the infamous Marauders, because Remus was now wearing a sparkly blue jumpsuit just like the ones ABBA preform in, with flare pants as to match the rest of the boys His gold lips sparkled and I had to stop myself from wanting to kiss him senseless. His eyes seemed even brighter under the gold hue of his makeup, he was golden.
Nothing was more attractive then the confidence and savvy of the boys before us(didn’t help that I had a fat crush on David Bowie and ABBA). Nothing sweeter than the way they stood and smiled at Lily and I while everyone around us laughed, pointed, whispered and some even smiling themselves.
Sirius picked up a cup by his foot, while James threw off his own robes, wearing an ABBA band shirt Lily bought him ages ago, he was wearing swaying bell bottoms too. Peter flipped his robe inside out to reveal the other side as bright blue with obviously badly glued on glitter, clusters of glitter fell on the table very time he nervously tapped his foot.
Remus brought his wand to his lips, as if a microphone and somehow the lanterns around us dimmed.
Dumbledore cleared his throat, getting over the shock much faster than everyone else, but whatever he was going to say was cut off as the music started to play from the very beginning and this time the voices of four boys joined in, singing the lyrics.
The lights flashed as James sang first, his voice cracking and in the fleeting light you could see him blush. Lily slapped my arm in shock and excitement. Then light flashes again like lightning, as Sirius joined in, singing much louder, he always said he’d like to be a rock star just once (granted this is much different, but he will no doubt pretend there is no difference at all). The next light cued in Peter who sang with his eyes closed, his voice shaking with nerves but he new every line.
It wasn’t until the second verse that their voices died down and the lanterns illuminated the great hall completely again as Remus’s voice rang out strong and clear. His eyes on me. His voice took my breath away, he sounded both awful and yet beautiful.
“If you’re all alone,” he sings, “When the pretty birds have flown,” gasps join in with the music as hundreds of paper doves fly in through the doors, whizzing past me and putting my hair in array, then soaring way over my head, circling up in the ceiling. I could hear Professor McGonagall stifle both her surprise and joy. Everyone was laughing and cheering, but then silence fell again to listen. I could not take my eyes off of Remus, who in turn, would not take his eyes off of me.
“Honey, I’m still free, Take a chance on me...” He must have finished his solo part because the boys start to sing along after that and they all begin to strut down the table towards us like a cat walk. Remus stops just short of us and hops, on beat, off of the table.
Peter, James and Sirius walk right towards me. Sirius slitting his eyes and stooping low, pointing at me with one hand as he sings into the cup with the other. They all stand in front of Lily and I, hips shaking to the beat and James has eyes for Lily only. All the boys sang to us in union.
“If you need me, let me know, gonna be around,” Sirius eye’s turning oddly soft as they sang, “If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down.“
Then they quickly turn towards the crowd again, but I felt it. I felt their hidden apology. For the first time in days I felt some of my anger and sadness slip from me, with every lyric, and every bright, bashful smile. My anger left me as they sang and embarrassed themselves for the sake of a grand apology.
Lily started to laugh. She doubled over and tried to hide her smile with a hand but it was just too ridiculous, all of it really was. James did a double-take when he saw this, then he broke out into the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, and his voice no longer sounded so shy. I start giggling myself as Sirius jumps off the table like a rock n roller and dances over to Minnie and Dumbledore, their foot tapping did not go unnoticed by him.
James waltz over to Lily and bows low before her, extending his arm, he sings “We can go dancing,” Lily giggled and takes his hand, she surprises everyone and joins in
“We can go walking,” She sings. James smirks and carries on with a raised brow.
“As long as we’re together...” Then he runs with her past the table, his pants waving and tossing, Lily’s laughing uncontrollably by his side, joining in indefinitely for the song. Remus’s voice still rang loudest over the boys, my eyes searching for him in the room, I seem to have lost him in the commotion of others jumping up and dancing, and the sweet moment between James and Lily.
Then their voices left the serenade and once more it was just Remus. He sounded so close to me, I turned around and my heart did a back flip. He was right behind me, smiling sadly as he say...
“When I dream I'm alone with you, it's magic You want me to leave it there Afraid of a love affair But I think you know that I can't let go” Remus sings, everyone falling quite again as the lights dim once more and a single light is glowing above us. It was in the shape of a white butterfly, and a shooting star darting around it. The great hall grew silent once more. Dumbledore’s voice was heard quietly singing the song, for the music has died down, Minnie hit him and watched us anxiously.
She only grew tenser as Remus sang without music, he looked so vulnerable under the soft white glow and under the eyes of everyone in the room. But above that, he was being vulnerable to me, his voice more of a plead than song.
“If you change your mind, I'm the first in line Honey I'm still free, take a chance on me If you need me, let me know, gonna be around If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down,” He finished with baited breath, despite his lungs begging for more, he was too focused on what I would do next. I take a deep breath and stop fighting the feelings inside of me. I smile brightly up at him, using my own wand, I bring it up to my lips like a microphone too.
“If you’re all alone, when the pretty birds have flown. Honey, I’m still free, take a chance on me.” I sing. Remus’s face lights up with bubbling laughter and pure joy. He takes me in his arms and spins me around, while we embrace the music and lights are back on and everyone in the great hall is singing. Minnie and Dumbledore included, she is smiling at us.
Remus stops spinning and is just standing before me now, very still, as if he was debating whether this is all a dream or not. His glittering eyes boring into mine with such strong emotions I felt trapped, utterly entranced. The words of the song rush through me like the wind, he grabbed my hand softly, and led us both on top of the table.
“Let me tell you now. My love is strong enough, To last when things get rough, it’s magic.” As he sings those sweet words, magic fireworks erupt above us in little cheesy hearts of red. Students around us are overjoyed, up themselves and twirling around, dancing. Many gasped and awed at the fireworks, but nothing was more astonishing than what happened next.
****
Now, was what happens next petty? Yes. Did it land all of the Marauder detention? Yes. Did any of us enjoy the scene any less? Not at fucking all...
****
All the birds swooped down in a cloud of white, their paper wings rustling against one another. They moved like the wind, swooping as one to the right side of the room and then drifting swiftly to the left until they got lower and lower. Until they were right over Lucy Diamond.
I stopped dancing with Remus and stood still, along with most of the students and teachers I was watching the birds. But Remus was still singling softly into my ear, his voice dripped with mischief, the other boys still sang as well, sounding just as suspicious, but otherwise unbothered.
Then the birds broke formation and with every hit of the drum a bird flew down over the top of Lucy’s head, and very quickly shits something atop her head. Each one falls softly, it does not hurt her, but upon impact they break open and release the most god awful smell. Lucy can’t stop screaming, she tries to get up and run but the birds follow her out the door.
Stink bomb after stink bomb was dropped atop her head. The Great Hall was alive with laughter, but perhaps the loudest of all, was my own. Remus was stilling humming in my ear, highly amused he let himself watch too until Lucy was gone from sight.
“Oh, Remus,” I say, laughing loudly, “That is evil.” He laughs too, looking down at me he shrugs. We look at each other and nod, “She deserves it.” We say in union before laughing again.
But then the music screeched to a halt, silence overtook us in waves and drowned us as Dumbledore stood up, his wand being tucked back into his robes.
“Mr.Remus Lupin,” he starts slowly, his low voice gathering everyone’s attention, “Mr.Sirius Black. Mr.James Potter and Mr.Peter Pettigrew. I assume this is of your doing?” He inquires, though the answer is obvious. The boys swallow thickly, nodding their heads. I squeeze Remus’s hand and he shoots me a quick, lopsided smile. Everyone was feeling a bit uneasy, maybe even guilty.
“mmmh,” He nods, “Thought so. Though I always appreciate a dance number, the stink bombs are what concern me most. The four of you will have detention this afternoon, and whatever else Professor McGonagall deems appropriate.” He sits back down, and the student body are unsure of where the look. At Dumbledore, Minnie, or the boys in trouble.
“Yes, Professor.” They all say at once. After a while of the stiff silence everyone goes back to their seats. It wasn’t long before everyone was talking animatedly about what just happened.
“I’ve never seen a thing like it...”One says.
“The makeup’s nice, innit?”
“Yeah, but the pants are god awful.” “Nonesense, have you ever even seen ABBA?’’
Lily and I find ourselves sitting next to the boys again, stupefied by the whole event. I felt overjoyed and confused and surely surprised. I never thought in all my life, I’d be lucky enough to see the Marauders perform ABBA in such attire, at Hogwarts nonetheless.
“So..whatcha’ think? Think I’ll make a good rock star, huh? I knew it was for me.” Sirius starts, flaunting his bandana and not bothering to put his robe back on.
“I didn’t know I had it in me. Merlin, did ya see me shaking, Remus?” Peter says excitedly. Remus turns to him with a bright smile, nodding his head.
“All of ya were just great. Peter memorized the footwork better, though.” Remus says, James wacks his arm.
“Did not, I worked hard on that. Lily liked it. Didn’t cha?” James turns to Lily, who much like me, is still blushing mad. She can only nod. We were still trying to process our shock, and Remus’s golden lips and glowing eyes weren’t making it any easier for me. I’m sure the blue on James had the same affect on Lily.
“But..uhm,” Remus clears his throat, looking rather nervous he turns to me now, “What did you think of it?” He fidgets while I looked for my answer, smiling at the mere memory of minutes ago.
“I thought it was...grand! Shocked me half to death ya did!” I can’t help my voice raising and contorting with my waves of emotions, happy, surprised, impressed and underneath it all, discontent. I lean into Remus, he leans into me, so his ear is close to my mouth, just like when we’d whisper in class. The others talk around us, but we fall into our own world.
“But I need more than just a song, Remus. I need answers. A real conversation, ya know?” I ask, nervous he’ll take it wrong. His actions proved how much he wanted me back, hell he was willing to tarnish his reputation and mortify himself in front of everyone for me. I wanted to make it work just as much, so I hoped he understands that for this to work, we need honesty. He nods eagerly behind me, turning to me with a soft smile.
“I know. You deserve nothing less than the whole truth. Because you’re right, I’ve never cheated on you once,” I nod at him, I’ve gathered that much from Sirius and James’s comments, but my heart still felt lighter at the confession, “But I have been lying to you.” My heart sank at his words and I sat in silence, waiting for more. He took in my reaction and rushes out the rest, as if scared I’ll leave him again. “But I plan on never lying to you again, starting with tonight. After my detention. And (y/n)... I am so sorry for everything that has happened between us.” The intensity in his eyes glue me in place even as the bell chimes, signifying the end of breakfast.
“Here, take this.” He slips a note into my hand, kissing me on the cheek. “It has everything you need to know for my...full apology.” He glances uneasily at the staring students and we both turn to the sound of James’s voice calling for Remus. Remus gives him a thumbs up and turns towards me again.
“I’ve got to go...er change out of this.” He says, shaking his leg as the pants float and toss around his ankles, I throw my head back and laugh. Taking him in fully, his chest hair poke out from the v-neck and the suit covered the rest of him tightly. He looked both hot and ridicules.
“Yes, please do.” I say, but take his hand and twirl him. He twirls with a blush, doing a little dance with his shoulders as he does. He stumbles slightly and I steady him, low and behold he was wearing platforms too. I can’t help but laugh once more. “But keep the get up, yeah? Not too shabby, Mr.Remus Lupin.” I take on the tone of Dumbledore at the end and he laughs.
“See you in first period?” He asks, anxiety slipping through his voice again. It was still weird for us to be talking again, yet all too natural.
“Of course not, when have I ever seen you in the class we share together?” He rolls his eyes at my sarcasm, but doesn’t bother to fight his huge smile, the same one that hasn’t left his face since we danced atop the table.
“I embarrass myself in front of the whole bloody school and ya still have all that sass. Guess we’ll have to fix that later then.” He says, suggestively winking. I laugh and push him towards the great hall doors, we were some of the few people still there.
“Don’t try and seduce me dressed as Benny Andersson, and especially when I’m still mad at you. Cause I am still mad at you, ya know?” I say, our moods sobering slightly. He smiles sadly.
“I know,’ He says, sighing he glances back at boys who are already walking up the stairs, ready to change and beyond waiting with how many people are taking pictures and laughing. “But I will make it up to you, I promise.” He gives me one last smile before turning around and racing up the stairs.
I smile to myself and shake my head, re-playing the events in my mind and reminding myself to ask for some of those moving pictures of the boys. I meet up with Lily and together we walk to class, we can’t shut up about what happened.
Several times we’ve recounted it to one another and made so many jokes we were crying with laughter by the time we reached class. She left me by the door, to make her way to her class not too far from mine. While I waited for Remus and the other boys to walk through the door I pulled out the note Remus gave me and read the contents.
Dear (y/n),
At 8 tonight make your way over to Hagrid’s hut. He’s always had an abundance of creature around there.
All my love to you,
Remus
I tucked the note away with curiosity bubbling all throughout me until I had to bounce my leg in an attempt to calm myself down. I’ve went through far to much emotion in this short morning. This day will go by slowly I take it.
Suddenly, Minnie walks through the door to personally inform our teacher that Remus, Sirius and James will not be attending this morning. Part of their punishment requires them elsewhere. I sigh and slump in my chair, a long day indeed.

birthday love
matthew gray gubler
summary: you surprise matthew on his birthday
word count: 1795
warnings: love, affection I guess. lmk
you and matthew have been friends for years.
you and him met at paget's wedding, you being one of her closest friends and since then you and matthew were inseparable.
he brought you on set almost everyday, just wanting you to be around.
whenever he was high on emotions, he'd run right back to his trailer where he was sure you'd be sitting on the small couch watching a random movie. you'd hold him close and kiss the top of his head and eventually the noice faded out and it was just the two of you.
whenever it was his birthday, you were almost always the first person to call him, or drop by his house to spend time with him.
to say he loved you, was unconditional to say the least. he loves you - he's in love with you.
you were at the top of his mind, he was always thinking of you.
he felt as if you were it for him.
but with love comes fear.
he was never planning on telling you how he felt.
♡♡
spending time alone in a big house on your birthday can be a little draining.
covid was a huge issue and matthew couldn't go out to see his friends like he'd wanted too. he didn't want to spend his birthday alone, but he didn't feel like he had any other choice.
knock knock knock
he wasn't expecting anyone to come around, but when he saw you through the peep hole, he was elated.
"y/n!!"
"hey matthew. happy birthday dude"
"what're you doing here?"
"it's your birthday. I wasn't gonna not come"
you could tell he was trying to keep a safe distance, not wanting to risk anything for the either of you.
"I spent two weeks all isolated and even took a test to make sure I was safe so I could come here. I didn't want you to spend your birthday alone"
that sad look in his eyes went away and all he could do was smile.
"that's ridiculous" matthew laughed and went straight to you, picking you up and dragging you back into his home. "you're ridiculous"
as he put you down, he grabbed your face and kissed your head. "I can be"
affection was something both of you was so used to, cuddles, sleeping on top of each other on small couches inside trailers, little kisses every once in awhile. you both loved it, but he wanted the real thing but he'd known you for so long and he didn't want to risk messing anything up.
"I feel like you should be the one kissing my head" he was a lot taller than you, so it was a bit difficult sometimes but you grabbed his face pulling him down and gave him something better, butterfly kisses all over his face just until he couldn't stop laughing.
"you're very pretty matthew"
"hm. so are you"
as you pulled your bags towards his kitchen, he followed you around like a lost puppy. "whatcha doin?" you started to pull together all his birthday stuff, dinner and dessert. "I'm making you stuff" he laughed lighted picking up a jar of sauce, probably reading something off of it. "just stuff?" you took the jar from him putting it aside.
"I'm making you dinner and a desert" he looked up at you with those adorable eyes, especially in his glasses he looked so cu-
"y/n!"
"what?"
"I said what're you making" sighing feeling like you've been defeated you completely avoided his gaze now trying to get started on cooking. "I'm making you a huge salad" but you couldn't help it. you looked at him and he gave you the most demonizing look. "I don't want that" and now all you could do was laugh. "relax I'm kidding. I can't tell you yet, it's a surprise."
"you're making spaghetti, aren't you?"
"shut up"
"okay fine. where's my gift" smiling mostly to yourself, you still didn't look at him. "you're looking at it"
"I want to exchange my gift. I don't like it, she's very mean" scoffing to yourself, you swung a spatula between the two of you. "I am the very best gift you will ever have. and I am very nice by the way. you should be thanking me" he took the spatula out of your hand, holding it softly. "you are. thank you y/n"
and now you were gone. when he did shit like that it made you think he was just as in love with you just as much as you were, but how could he? he was him and you were you.
"great. now I am going to make dinner. you need to leave my kitchen, I need to cook in peace" laughing to himself he gave you back the spatula "your kitchen?"
"matthew!"
"okay okay, I'm going. meanie"
♡♡
by the time you had finished making dinner, you set it aside and finished up desert, making a huge mess all over yourself.
"matthew!!" matthew came running over to you, thinking you were in danger. "what's wrong?" he was clearly out of breath from running through his house. "I got flour all over my clothes, can I borrow something of yours?"
"seriously?"
"what?"
"the way you screamed my name i thought someone was trying to kill you"
"that would be very unfortunate given you aren't a real FBI agent"
he looked upset and you almost felt bad for making him worry about you. "okay, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you" sighing looking away from you, he pulled you close in a hug kissing your hair. "you're so stupid" laughing together you realized he was right. "yeah that's true, but uh I gotta say matthew" pulling away from the hug you stepped back away from the mess "you look more of a mess than me gube. I think you're one year closer to that senior citizen membership, you might need to start using your cane again" you thought it was funny, matthew on the other hand, wasn't having it. matthew took a cup of flower dumping it right over your head. "matthew!! what was that for?" he was laughing now. throwing his head back, filling the house with his echoes of laughter, you could almost fall for him all over again by the way that he looked. "what's so funny?" after awhile he finally stopped laughing looking at you straight in the eyes. "you have flour all over your face. you look older than me!" you couldn't help but laugh with him.
after what felt like forever. you both eventually stopped laughing. matthew gave you a sweatshirt and you cleaned up the mess, then changed out of your messy clothes. the sweatshirt he gave you was so soft, a little big on you given he was much taller than yourself but it was cute. it had little bears all over it.
after awhile, you and matthew ate dinner together and watched a bunch of old Halloween moves together, mostly just throwing popcorn at each other until the bowl was empty. "I think I want my desert now" smiling at him, you kissed his cheek and ran off to the kitchen.
coming back into his living room with a small cake on a bigger plate, you sat on the small coffee table across from him as you put the candles on his cake and lighting them with a match. "make a wish" he took the plate from your hands. "sit" he motioned you to sit next to him and when you did he pulled you closer kissing your nose. "thank you y/n. you really are the best gift" crunching your nose at him, hiding your clearly visible blush, he poked you with his nose to look at him. "aren't you gonna sing for me?" you pulling your hands up in his hair, moving it out of his eyes. "isn't that a little cheesy?" he laughed softly, pecking your nose again. "nope. you don't have a choice."
as you sang him 'happy birthday' you noticed all he could do was focus on you. and for you, it was so hard to keep looking at him. you wanted him to kiss you, you wanted to kiss him. but it was his birthday, planning on confessing your undying love for your bestfriend can wait another day just in case he turns you down.
when you stopped singing, he blew out his candles and set the cake down. he took both his hands in yours, kissing your knuckles. "thank you y/n, really" smiling mostly for him, he pulled you into a hug. "of course. I'd do anything for you." as you pulled away, you scooted a little further from him. "what did you wish for?" he laughed as he started to cut his cake, putting them on two separate plates. "I can't tell you that" sighing as he handed you a plate, you looked at him as he started eating. "why not?" he gave you an obvious look but answered anyway. "because it won't come true"
now was a time. you could tell him now, tell him about how much you loved him far beyond friendship. matthew wasn't the type to back away from a friend so even if it all went to hell, he'd still be there for you.
you took both plates setting them back down, he looked at you with a confused look on his face. "matthew?..." you took his hand looking at your intertwined hands, not being able to look in his eyes. "yes?"
you let go of his hand, bringing his face closer to yours and kissing him softly on the lips. he was surprised at first, you could feel it but in about a second, he pulled you closer, resting his hands on your waist.
when you both pulled away he brought his hands to your face smoothing the hair away from your frame. "I love you y/n"
laughing happily with him, you kissed him again. "I love you too matthew"
after awhile of soft kisses, he pulled away grabbing the plates back. after you both finished, joking about what seems like nothing he couldn't help but laugh at whatever was going through his head.
"what's so funny?"
"it's just weird, I guess"
"what is?"
"how you manage to make my wish come true" you laughed with him and kissed him again, quicker this time. "that was so cheesy" he pulled you on his lap, leaving a small mess next to you both. "yeah, but you love it"
grabbing his face, you kissed him again as he held into your by your side.
letting your heads rest against one another, it almost felt molded for one another.
"yeah, I do"

Ok can i request Daisy Johnson giving her girlfriend R the chesseyest date in the world including Cheesy pickup lines and this prompt 'I swear, if I see one more cheesy, overdone decoration—' please and thank you
A/N: So I’ve only watched one season of Agents of Shield so far, I don’t know this character that well but I tried my best.
“Are you ready?” Daisy asked, knocking at your door in the hotel you’d rented out for this mission. You hastily grabbed your purse and checked how you looked in the mirror.
You wore a fav/color cropped t-shirt, loose denim jacket with some lining on the inside, black ripped jeans and black puma sneakers. She had said it wasn’t anywhere too fancy, this was the best choice.
“Yep.” You answered, opening the door to find her waiting in front of the doorway.
Daisy wore her black leather jacket, black leggings, a maroon t shirt and killer boots. Her hair was loose and she wore a bit more makeup than usual, which was a little surprising to you. She had a bouquet in her hand as she grinned at you.
You took the bouquet with a grin matching hers and put it in your house quickly, making a mental note to put it in water later.
“Let’s go then.” Daisy smirked, offering you her arm to take, you rolled your eyes playfully and took her arm, letting her lead you out of the hotel.
Daisy had rented out a black mustang for the date which she opened the door for you, smirking the entire time. She walked into the driver’s seat after, you hadn’t seen her feeling this mischievous in a long time and honestly, you were a little scared.
“Where are we going?” You asked as she started driving, she turned around and winked at you, mischief in her brown eyes.
“It’s a surprise.” She sang, switching on the radio which was playing one of your favorite songs, you grinned and started humming. “Feel free to start an opera.” She joked, you whacked her on the arm lightly but took her advice, singing the entire way to the date.
She had driven you to an abandoned park next to a large pond or lake, you couldn’t tell the difference in the dark. She got out and opened the door for you, reaching into her pocket for the blindfold she had gotten with her.
“Oh come on.” You whined after closing the door, she shrugged in response.
“It’s part of the surprise.” She answered, you groaned and let her tie the blindfold, reaching out for something to hold instantly.
Daisy reached out to hold your hands, smiling and constantly looking behind her shoulder to make sure she was leading you the right way, rubbing her thumb over your knuckles every once in a while to reassure you that she wasn’t going to run you into a tree. She let go and quickly ran to turn the lights on before coming back.
“There, you ready?” She asked, positioning you to face what she had prepared, you nodded and took off the blindfold, the sight taking your breath away.
There was a small white gazebo with string lights on the inside and a portable stove and the ingredients to make your favorite food inside. You grinned and ran inside, not waiting for her to follow you, there was even a speaker to play some music with your favorite music already cued up, on the string lights there were pictures of previous dates the two of you had together.
“Wow, this is.” You turned to face Daisy who smiled sheepishly at you, rubbing her arm almost nervously. “You’re amazing.” You whispered, she grinned at you and helped you start making your favorite food.
Throughout the date, you found small sticky notes everywhere with cute messages written on them, most of them had ‘you’re beautiful’ or some other cheesy compliment written on it. Daisy glanced at you every once in a while to make sure it wasn’t too much and you were enjoying yourself, in all honesty, you were loving it.
After you finished making the food, you were just about to eat it when she stopped you, putting the fork back into your plate and pointing towards a table she had set up which was still in the dark, she groaned and quickly ran over, leaving her plate with you to light the candles.
“You are such a romantic.” You commented, rolling your eyes and walking over to the table with both of the plates.
“What can I say?” Daisy joked, shrugging and sitting across from you, taking her plate. “I just love to treat my girlfriend well.” She winked at you, you laughed and started eating, it tasted delicious, it always did when you cooked together with her.
The rest of dinner took like it normally did with both of you, joking, bantering, laughing, talking about old missions and missions to come, dreaming about a semi normal life together some day. Finally, you’d finished eating the dinner and leaned back in your seat, watching the candles flicker as she finished eating.
“But there’s more” Daisy joked, going to the kitchen and bringing both of you brownie sundaes from a fridge under the stove which you hadn’t noticed, you were genuinely blown away by the amount of effort she had put into this.
“Wow.” You awed, taking the sundae and about to dig into it with the spoon she brought you when she stopped you, you almost groaned.
“I swear, if I see one more cheesy, overdone decoration.” You complained jokingly, Daisy feigned hurt and pointed to where she had set up a movie projector and a blanket fort with string lights, remote controlled this time.
“Don’t tell me you don’t like being spoiled like this.” Daisy said, moving to slide one arm around your waist, you rolled your eyes and let her lead you into the blanket fort which had both, cheesy sticky notes with reasons why she loved you and pictures of both of you together.
“I love it.” You murmured, looking around in the blanket fort while Daisy cued up your favorite movie on the projector, one sticky note catching your eye, it said ‘I love you’
“I love you Daisy Johnson.” You stated, sticking the sticky note on your forehead and facing her, a huge grin on your face.
She paused, freezing in the action when she heard those words fall from your mouth, she had spent hours preparing this in a frenzy, hoping you would like it, like her, but the nagging thought in her mind was always there, you would get sick of this life, sick of her and leave.
But after those words, the nagging thoughts went away, you were hers.
“I love you too.” Daisy whispered, almost scared to say it.
You cuddled into her while she played the movie, leaning back on the pillows as your head rested on her shoulder while eating the sundae, Daisy let you but continued eating while watching the movie, she finished first and pulled you into her lap, sliding her arms around your waist while watching.
You knew she needed constant reassurance that you were safe, that you were hers, and you loved it more than anything, you loved her more than anything.
A/N: sorry if it’s bad, idk the character too well so feedback is amazing!

can we be seventeen?
It is finally time. Broadway!Michael. Heathers. Best friends to lovers. U know how we do. sorry I’m on mobile and can’t do the read more feature 😔
4k words
—
High School was the time of your life. You spent everyday after school with your best friend in the theatre. You two had many starring roles together, such as Tracy and Link in Hairspray, Sally Bowles and Cliff Bradshaw from Cabaret, and so many more. You two decided you both wanted to take on broadway. That being said, you bought an apartment together- a tiny one that is- in New York City. It was your 2nd month in New York. You loved it more than anything, but you were a starving artist. You had a few commercial roles and did some work in some short films, but you wanted to be on stage. You wanted people applauding you every night. You both wanted that.
But it’s hard to get on broadway. Broadway isn’t something easy to achieve.
The door to your apartment opened and interrupted your thoughts.
“Y/N! The restaurant was super busy today, so I think I got enough tip money to get the WiFi back on.” Michael walked through the door, car keys in hand, wearing a white button shirt with a black tie, along with black dress pants. Michael worked at a fancy Italian restaurant in the heart of New York City that only rich people can afford. He absolutely hated working there. It was far from his dream, but they had to pay the bills somehow. You worked at a coffee house yourself, and most of the time your money went towards bills and necessities only. And people hardly ever tip.
“Thank God! I’ve missed Netflix so much.” He laughed and you grinned, collapsing beside him on the couch. Michael was a great roommate. He always paid his share of everything, and he kept the living area clean. His room is another story, but at least you didn’t have to always see his room.
“I found our next audition! I forgot to tell you, when I was driving to work I saw that Heathers is currently being casted for broadway!”
You sighed, leaning your head on his shoulder, “I’m beginning to think we should’ve stayed home, it’s so hard to make it out here in New York…”
He scoffed, looking at you in your eyes, “Is my best friend, Y/N L/N, the one who forced me to audition for Oklahoma our freshman year, giving up? Come on now, that’s not the Y/N I know! Come on, auditions are tomorrow morning, it’s worth a shot.”
You pondered for a moment, thinking of the possibilities. This is what you came to New York for, after all. Maybe it was worth a shot.
“Fine, we’ll go. Just don’t get your hopes up…”
“I won’t, I promise. Now… I assume we’re having ramen again?”
“You know it.”
—
You sat beside Michael and looked around at who was at the audition. You could already tell that type casting would come into play, which made you nervous. You weren’t sure if you fit into any of these roles. What if you were wasting your time? You’d be lucky if you got to be a chorus member. Michael looked up from the paperwork as if he could sense how nervous you were.
“Relax, Y/N. You’ve been this way since High School! I remember auditions for Hairspray; you nearly had a panic attack the day of callbacks. And you rocked it! What are you scared of?”
“Failure, Michael.” You frowned and looked at him. He sighed, looking into your eyes.
“My best friend has never been a failure. Don’t even begin to think you’re a failure! Every good actor and actress struggled before succeeding.” He gave you a reassuring smile, and weight lifted off of your shoulders. Maybe he was right. In fact, he was right. You have to fall before you fly sometimes.
“Thank you, Michael.” You smiled as he smiled back at you. You wouldn’t wanna be struggling with anyone else.
A woman who seemed to be the director interrupted your thoughts, “Good morning everyone, welcome to the audition for Heathers. Shall we begin?” Everyone silently nodded, and the director cleared her throat, “the numbers my assistant gave to you when you walked in will now come into play… let’s start with #1. Come on up.”
You froze. You were #1. No pressure, right? You got up from your seat and walked up onto the stage, ready to perform the provided audition material. All of the girls were using audition material for the part of Veronica, the lead female part. No pressure.
You introduced yourself briefly and began, projecting with purpose, “My parents wanted to move me into high school out of the sixth grade, but we decided to chuck the idea because I’d have trouble making friends, blah, blah, blah. Now blah, blah, blah is all I ever do. I use my grand IQ to decide what color lip gloss to wear in the morning and how to hit three keggers before curfew… Betty Finn was a true friend and I sold her out for a bunch of Swatch dogs and Diet Coke heads. Killing Heather would be like offing the wicked witch of the west… wait east. West! God! I sound like a fucking psycho….Dear Diary: Heather told me she teaches people “real life.” She said, real life sucks losers dry. You want to fuck with the eagles, you have to learn to fly. I said, so, you teach people how to spread their wings and fly? She said, yes. I said, you’re beautiful.”
You emphasized certain things and changed tone when you felt it was needed. You wanted this so bad. But this wasn’t it! This was a musical, so you had to sing. You looked at the music provided for you and cued the piano player to begin playing. The song you were told to sing was “Fight For Me”. You sang each note with purpose. You wanted this more than anything. Before you knew it, you were done with your audition, and you sat back down in the audience beside Michael. He mouthed ‘good job’ to you, smiling. Before he knew it, it was his turn to audition.
The men auditioning read material for JD, the leading male part. You looked over what Michael had to perform, and the monologue was quite intense.
He cleared his throat and began with an intense tone of voice, “Can't believe you did it! I was teasing. I loved you! Sure, I was coming up here to kill you... First I was gonna try and get you back with my amazing petition. It's a shame you can't see what our fellow students really signed. Listen ‘We, students at Westerburg High will die. Today. Our buring bodies will be the ultimate protest to a society that degrades us. Fuck you all!’ It's not very subtle, but neither is blowing up a whole school, now is it? Talk about your suicide pacts, eh? When our school blows up tomorrow, it's gonna be the kind of thing that affects a whole generation! It'll be the Woodstock for the 80's! Damn it Veronica! We could have roasted marshmallows together!”
He was so talented. You would be damned if he didn’t get a role in this production. He then finished out his audition with the song “Meant To Be Yours”. He did amazing. He always put his all into his auditions. You were proud to be his friend. He walked off stage after he finished, and you both left.
—
As each day passed you absolutely could not stop thinking about callbacks. You were so anxious about whether you were gonna get one or not. You at least hoped Michael would get one so he could live out his dream if you couldn’t.
With each latte you made at work all that was on your mind was the possibility of getting a callback. At one point, you couldn’t even remember how to make an iced americano. They said they’d call you no matter what to let you know, which made you even more anxious. And everyday Michael came home from work all he talked about was callbacks and how bad he wanted this opportunity.
“I know you’ll make it, Michael. I mean come on, you’re extremely talented and you knocked that audition out of the park!”
“I did mediocre at best! You’re the one who’s gonna make it. You’re gonna be amazing in that cast. I’d rather you get it than me.”
You laid your head on his shoulder, looking up into his eyes, “You mean that, Mikey?”
“Would I lie to you? No. I wouldn’t. You’re amazing.”
—
You ran into Michael’s room after your shift at the coffee shop, shaking him awake, “I just got a callback during my shift! I get another audition tomorrow!”
“I got one too! While you were gone! We got callbacks!”
You two jumped up onto Michael’s bed and jumped in celebration. You were unbelievably happy.
“Well you know what that means… it’s a special occasion!” Michael ran to the kitchen and you followed behind him. He pulled out the boxed wine from the cabinet and got the plastic wine glasses out too.
The boxed wine was a tradition in your friendship. When you were casted in Hairspray sophomore year, he got his older friend to get it for him. It was cheap and lasted a while, so it was his number one choice. After high school graduation he brought it to your house after your grad party. And when you moved into the apartment, you had Dominos and boxed wine. It had a special place in your heart.
You put some wine in your cup and clinked your glass with his. Maybe it was finally time.
“Now let’s get wine drunk at 2 in the afternoon, shall we?” He smirked at you and you couldn’t help but laugh, knowing damn well he was a lightweight. It was gonna be a long day. Michael got up and connected his phone to the Bluetooth speaker, playing one of his playlists and taking your free hand in his.
“Michael what the hell are you doing?”
“Dancing! Duh!” He downed his wine glass and spun you around, laughing loudly.
You shook your head, putting down your glass and joining him, despite your lack of dance ability.
“You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only… how old are we again? Who knows!” Michael was so carefree, and seeing him have no care in the world always warmed your heart.
“Hey Michael?”
“Yeah Y/N?”
“I knew I moved to New York with the right person.
—
You and Michael woke up extremely early the next morning for callbacks. The callback went well in your opinion, and Michael seemed to feel good about his as well. But after your callback it was back to the minimum wage job with less than mediocre tips. You had to wait a whole week until you’d find out if the callback resulted in you getting a role. It was gonna be the longest week of your life. As everyday passed and you made countless lattes and iced coffees all you thought of was your callback. It invaded your mind at every second of the day. No callback had stressed you out as much as this one. This one wasn’t some high school production from back home. This could be your big break for crying out loud! This was the most stress you had ever felt in your life.
When the day finally came around you and Michael waited around the apartment with phone in hand all day. The phone call you two were about to get would decide your futures. You paced around the living room, unable to stand still. Finally, Michael’s phone was the first to ring. He immediately picked up, sitting on the couch while biting his nails nervously.
“Hello? Yes this is him… yes I would. Thanks so much… alright goodbye.” He hung up, a solemn look on his face. You felt like you already knew what he was gonna say.
He then broke out into a grin, hugging you, “You’re looking at broadways new Jason Dean!”
You smacked his chest, gasping, “how dare you worry me like that, Michael!” You laughed, returning his hug happily. Shortly after, your phone also rang.
You answered, with a shaky voice, “Hello? Yes this is she… okay, yes I would, okay… thank you, goodbye.”
You were shocked. You looked at Michael, eyes dilated and full of disbelief, “I got the part… I-I’m Veronica…”
“No way! I get to lead with my best friend? This is amazing! We did it!” He hugged you, lifting you off of the ground.
You felt larger than life. You finally got to live out your dream. You were absolutely thrilled.
—
The first rehearsal was mainly just line running and song singing without much blocking and a brief dance rehearsal. Broadway was quite a shell shock. Rehearsals were triple the length of high school rehearsals, and dances were taught by actual choreographers, not the schools dance team coach. It was extremely different. It worried you- what if you couldn’t handle it? As you read lines your mind was in a whirlwind, and Michael could tell.
The director told everyone to take a 15 minute break, and you immediately broke down into a rant of how stressed you were to Michael.
“What if I’m not good enough for this? I’ve gotten so many notes from the director on things to do differently and it’s only day 1! I just wanna be the best I can be, I’m not usually cast into this type of role! I’m never usually a cocky or sassy type of character, I’m not good enough for this-“
Michael interrupted you during your extremely long rant, “Y/N! You’re doing great, it’s literally the first day. Everyone’s getting a lot of notes. You are fine. You always get in your head in the first week of rehearsals. You’re so talented and you deserve this, just calm down. Come on, smell the flowers, blow out the candles. Smell the flowers, blow out the candles. You’ve got this! I wouldn’t wanna plot revenge with anybody else, Veronica.”
You smiled, wrapping your arms around him and hugging him tightly. He always knew what to say in these situations.
“You’re not the only one getting notes ya know? You always panic, it worries me.” You frowned, you never meant to worry him. It was just the way you were. You were always hypercritical of yourself, and it got worse as you got older. It wasn’t all your fault though.
“You know why, Michael. My parents never came to any of the shows… I fought to please them, thinking maybe they’d come one of the nights of the show. They never did. They ruined my self esteem.” At that point you were just venting, and you felt bad after the realization. You quickly stopped talking, walking back on stage keeping your eyes glued to the floor.
The director loudly interrupted your thoughts with a loud clap, “Okay everyone, we’re gonna do the number for Meant To Be Yours, so get on up here, Michael.”
Michael quickly got up on the stage, flipping through his script to the right page. You had a few lines before he started singing, so you took your place behind the “closet door”.
Michael cleared his throat, putting on his angsty evil teen voice, “Knock! Knock! Sorry for coming in through the window. Dreadful etiquette, I know!” This part seemed to be written just for him. He was so good at being the odd guy.
You got out of your thoughts, replying with your line to his remark through the closet door set piece, “Get out of my house!”
Michael scoffed, jiggling the door knob and continuing on with the scene, “Hiding in the closet? Come on, unlock the door! Come out and get dressed, you’re my date to the pep rally tonight!” He then began singing the song, yelling through the door at certain parts. You had to admit, it felt like he was actually your psychotic boyfriend. He really knew what he was doing.
You were interrupted by him singing/yelling the next part of the song, “Veronica! Open the—open the door, please Veronica, open the door…” he finished the song, letting out an exasperated breath.
“So, um, any notes? To make it better…”
The director had a look of shock on her face, but good shock though. She looked at her notepad, and then looked up, “This is an amazing start, you’re making great character decisions. I think when you sing through the door you could act more desperate for her to come out, maybe beat on the door, not just yell through it. Maybe we could give you a prop? Like a gun? We’ll see. Other than that, it’s really great. Good job.”
Michael nodded, thanking her and walking down the stairs of the stage.
“Alright, y/n! We’re gonna do the opening scene, the dear diary one. Do what you think is right and I’ll give notes, as per usual. Alright?”
You nodded, sitting at the plastic table that would soon be a lunch table once the actual set was set up.
You mimed a notebook in front of you, taking a deep breath, “September 1st, 1989. Dear Diary:
I believe I'm a good person. You know, I think that there's good in everyone, but—here we are! First day of senior year! And uh... I look around at these kids that I've known all my life and I ask myself—what happened?” This then transitioned to you singing Beautiful. You only got through half of the song due to how much blocking was needed for this number in particular.
The director read off of her notes, “Alright, Y/N, so all I really have is that I want you to be more confident. I gave you this part for a reason, I believe in you. Just breathe, okay?”
You nodded, thanking her and walking off stage. You grabbed your bag and left to the subway with Michael.
“I told you you were doing good! You just need to believe in yourself, ya dingus.” He ruffled your hair and you blushed, nodding slowly.
“Michael, I think you’re the most talented person I know.”
“Well then you obviously haven’t met yourself.”
—
After what felt like a billion rehearsals, which was really just 2 months of rehearsals, costume day finally came! The best and worst day. A lot of things can go wrong. But a lot of the time, costume day is great.
You had one costume for the whole show, which you were secretly grateful for. Quick changes just stressed you out. Your costume was a grey pleated skirt that hit your mid thigh, blue knee high socks, a white blouse, and a blue blazer to go over the blouse. The director wanted everyone to be used to performing in their costumes, so you’d be rehearsing with them for the next 2 weeks until opening night.
Michael wore all black attire. His costume included a black t shirt, a black trench coat, black jeans, and clunky black boots. In all honesty, he did not look approachable. But at the same time, he intrigued you even more. With each rehearsal, you were thinking about Michael a lot more than usual, and in a different way than usual.
Were you attracted to your best friend?
Oh god. This could not be happening.
You knew way too much about him. His mother practically adopted you as her own. It would be so awkward if your feelings shined through. Your mind was racing, everything made sense.
When he would cup your cheek in one of your scenes and would immediately blush, when he would call you nicknames in your scenes and you broke into a huge grin, it was because you liked him as more than a friend.
“Y/N! How do ya like my costume?” Michael did a twirl and bowed, and you couldn’t help but smile.
“Wow what a handsome teen psychopath you are, Michael.” He laughed, muttering a thank you.
“Um, you look nice in yours. Much less psycho looking, 10 out of 10.”
You laughed, twirling to show him the whole costume, “Why thank you, JD. How kind of you.”
He smiled at you, looking in your eyes for a little while.
He quickly got out of his trance, looking around awkwardly, “Um, well, let’s take our promotional photos then shall we?”
You nodded, following him to where the photographer was.
“We’re definitely getting drunk tonight, I need a breather.”
—
You and Michael were in the living room, playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch whole drinking, you guessed it, boxed wine. You were both extremely drunk, laughing at every little thing.
“Did you seriously just hit me with a blue shell!?”
Michael laughed, “Sorry! I can't accept losing to you, princess.” His voice had a tinge of sarcasm, which was far from surprising.
You pouted, desperately trying to get your number one spot back. But to your defeat, Michael took your spot at the last minute and got first place.
“How dare you!”
He laughed as you tackled him on the couch, resulting in a slight spill of both of your glasses as the coffee table shook.
“Sorry babe, I won fair and square.” His tone had a slight bit of flirtiness to it. Blushing at the nickname, you got up and got yourself more to drink.
“Alright, I lost, what do you want your prize to be? I buy your lunch tomorrow? It’s done.”
“I don’t need anything… let’s just chill now, yeah?”
You nodded, sitting beside him on the couch and laying your head on his shoulder.
“Y/N, you know I wouldn’t wanna be anyone else’s costar, right?”
“Michael, you tell me that everyday.”
“Well, it’s true. God, I’m tired of pretending,” he sat up, looking you straight in the eyes, “I came with you to New York not just to pursue acting. I came here because I care about you more than anything. You make everyday a little better. I was in such a bad place before we met freshman year. I literally love you so much.”
“Yeah I love you too-“
“No Y/N! I’m in love with you! When we do our scenes together I can’t help but think about us being together! I can’t help but imagine me affectionately cupping your cheek and kissing you outside of the show. I can’t help that I actually think I’m meant to be yours! And no, this is not the alcohol talking. I’ve always felt this way. I felt this way when we were in every other show together! I want to shout from the rooftops that I love you!” He gripped your waist and kissed you deeply, pulling you onto his waist.
His kiss was intoxicating. You didn’t know how bad you wanted this. You finally realized that he was who you wanted all along.
“You may be set out to kill the whole school so we can be together, but I love you too, Michael.”
—
Opening night you were warming up in your dressing room when a knock came at your door. The stage manager gave you your 20 minute warning, while also handing you a large arrangement of roses.
“Who are these from? No one I know is coming to see me tonight…” You looked at the notecard that came with it, and it all made sense.
My dearest Veronica,
I’m glad I get to share the stage with raw talent tonight. And you I guess (Just kidding). Break a leg, and let’s fake some deaths tonight! I love you.
- JD
You never felt more in love.

Just Friends - Chapter 56
Aaliyah
I could feel the boom of the bass underneath the soles of my feet. My heels only acted as transmitters, and the alcohol I’d ingested throughout the night made me feel every beat through my body. I tossed my head back lazily, though I was only just past tipsy. This started a slow body roll in my seat to the beat of “Company” by Tinashe. Leslie randomly played this song on repeat last week when we were hanging out and my body wound familiarly to the synth-y beat. My eyes were closed, and I tossed my head side to side, hearing Tyler egg me on while feeling her bouncing by my side. She tossed her long, freshly done braids into a ponytail earlier and currently swung them around and I couldn’t help but grab my phone to take a video.
“I’m nothing like a girlfriend.” She sang along into the camera, standing and turning her body to give an extra dance to the camera. I laughed, yelling out at her and turning the camera to myself briefly before putting my phone down, just in time to start bouncing around for Kehlani’s “Distraction.”
This was my shit.
I rose to my feet with Tyler, the both of us dancing together amongst the people in VIP, laughing and singing loudly along. “DO YOU DO YOU DO YOU WANNA BEEEEEEE?!”
Eventually the two of us made it to the dance floor to really turn it out. The DJ was bomb, and Jamal had hand picked her for tonight’s festivities. I was glad he stayed true to his promise of fun night, because I had zero plans for going out tonight.
Jamal had begged me yesterday evening, and even roped Tyler in. She wasn’t a hard sell, she was always down for a good time so it was two against one and before I knew it, I was beating my face and donning a long black button up shirt with splits up the sides, and a pair of leather shorts. My hair was bone straight and my weave hung almost down to my ass. I made a spur of the moment decision to add clip ins and upon seeing the full picture of my look, I was feeling it.
A couple shots before we headed out, and a couple more to sustain my vibe throughout the night, I was having a blast.
I threw it back against Tyler, shaking my ass to “Slow Motion” by Trey Songz, dropping down and popping back up toward her.
“That’s my bitch!” She yelled out, her hand on my hip as I moved. I had my lip in my mouth and one hand on my knee to stabilize myself.
We were on one, and even my heels weren’t going to stop me from having a fun ass night.
Jamal had been running around the club handling business, popping in on us at various moments of the night and making sure we were situated with drinks and whatnot. Once he and I locked eyes, I did an extra wine on Tyler, making him raise his eyebrows mid conversation with one of the bouncers of the other VIP area to the left of us.
He dapped him up and walked over to us, prompting Tyler and I to circle him and dance around him, me behind and her in front. He laughed, shaking his head and raising his hands, letting us switch off dancing on him, before we both went to town, dancing on his legs as he held one side of either of our hips.
“Yall fuckin stupid yo.” He said with a laugh, grabbing us both into a side hug while we walked back to our table. “I seen yall out there getting it in though. Why I aint get none of that?”
“Because you aint my nigga.” Tyler said, prompting us to laugh together at her blunt nature. “Idk her excuse though.”
“Bitch.” I replied, squinting at her, which only made Jamal laugh more. I could really appreciate that he was respectful of me trying to figure things out, and our friendship had shockingly only continued to get better since that day in my office.
While I knew there would likely always be an undercurrent of something with him, I was glad that it was easy going and never awkward.
I didn’t have to worry about anything tonight though, because as it stood, he was dating the bottle girl that currently waited on our VIP section. I wondered if she knew about me, she wasn’t really rude but she also wasn’t particularly nice either. She was just, regular.
“Y'all good over here?” She asked loudly as she walked past our table.
“Yeah.” Tyler answered back, not feeling her energy and barely paying her any mind. I giggled, giving her a big smile and nodding.
“Yeah I think so, thanks.”
“No problem.” She smiled back, her pearly white teeth glimmering as much as her glossy lips. Her toned legs looked amazing in the club’s provided attire for its bartenders. She was a pretty girl, I would never hate. “You good, Mal?”
“Yeah.” They both smirked at one another before she walked away and he looked at me, only to see my eyebrows raised. “What?”
He laughed and so did I. “Nothing.” I said with a shrug and a smile, noting their interaction and the way he took his arm from around me when she came over.
He liked her more than he let on. It was cute.
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” I yelled over the music to Tyler who was currently plotting on this dude by the VIP bar. He and his friends had been next to us the entire night and while we’d had a couple funny interactions, I knew when my friend was interested, and interested she was.
“You want me to come?”
“No, no stay. I’ll be right back.” I said, insisting she stay. “Use the alone time wisely.
I nodded my head toward him, making Tyler laugh before I headed off toward my destination.
–
After reapplying the lipstick that coated my lips and taking a quick selfie, I toyed with my hair a little bit before posting the picture on my instagram. As soon as I looked up, the door flew open and I gasped, not expecting the quick and heavy swing of it.
"Sorry.”
“It’s fine.”
You know that feeling when someone has been staring at you specifically? Like, past people watching, with an awareness and familiarity to the analysis of your moves.
I couldn’t place it, but I’d been feeling it all night. Now I finally understood why.
Karina stood, staring at my reflection in the mirror. It had to be here. The timing of this wasn’t coincidental and I knew that. I was surprised that I didn’t burn up from the amount of heat her glare provided me throughout the night. While a piece of me wanted nothing more than to give her the shit eating grin of her nightmares, the one that said “I have more control than you ever had.” I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction. She didn’t deserve any extra energy from me. “Aaliyah.”
I sighed, a single dry chuckle left my body as I dropped my phone into my clutch.
Karina stood in front of me, clad in jeans, a white crop top, and a gaudy mens chain. Her body, as per usual, looked amazing and her hair, just the same, was flawless.
I’d seen pictures of her… interesting makeup and clothing decisions that never hit the mark, and while tonight was no different, I wouldn’t nit pick at her appearance. She was still a beautiful girl.
A beautiful girl who only ever stood in my presence to start some shit.
“Karina.” I replied with a smile and a tilt of my head. “You look nice.”
She squinted, roaming my body with her eyes before settling on my face with a nod of approval. “So do you. I love that lipstick.”
“Thanks.” I nodded back, taking a deep breath and preparing myself to exit. “Well, if you’ll excuse me…”
“Look, I’m not here to start trouble.” My laughter was impossible to contain. It left my lips and caused me to shake my head. She continued, unmoved by my clear reaction. “I just… I’m glad we ran into each other in here. I wanted to come speak earlier but… yeah.”
“Lets not play these games, Karina.” I paused, pulling back my negative energy. I wasn’t about to have my night ruined. “You had no reason to come say hi to me. No reason to speak. Lets not pretend that we’re friends or have more than one thing in common. So with that, have a nice night.”
I assumed her silence was based in shock considering I didn’t often speak more than a few words than her. I would never give her the satisfaction, especially not in a work environment and our minimal interactions had been all surrounding my job. This, in comparison, probably seemed bold. She didn’t know me enough to know this was a norm.
I moved to the side in order to pass her. “No, Aaliyah. I want to apologize.”
I sighed, leaning against the wall, simultaneously wishing and praying that someone would walk in and interrupt us, but also thankful that no one did.
My lack of commentary cued her to continue.
“I know that I’ve been rude to you in the past. The reality is, I know how close you and Larry are, and I needed to accept that and not put my frustration with him out on you.”
I crossed my arms, telling of my discomfort and annoyance with being here, and while my drunk was wearing off, I really didn’t want this to taint the rest of my evening.
I’d grab a round of tequila shots when I walked out of here.
“Larry was my boyfriend. Not you.It was his responsibility to make sure I was comfortable with the relationship between the two of you. Not yours.” I scoffed, unable to control myself. “I was rude because I was uncomfortable and insecure and I should have been more demanding with him, not a bitch to you. My bad. Really.”
“I appreciate that.” I replied, still not falling into her bullshit. I knew how Karina played. There was an ulterior motive somewhere here.
“Is that all?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay then.” I turned to grab the door before feeling her hand on my shoulder.
“You said that was it.” The sigh I let out bled through my words.
“Look, even though Larry needed to be the one making me feel comfortable, that doesn’t mean I didn’t know that there was something else going on between the two of you.” I just watched her, schooling my face the best way I could to not give anything away.
“Anyone who is around you two for any extended period of time can see it. Y'all aren’t as slick as you think you are.”
“Larry and I have nothing to do with you, despite what you think.” I stopped her. “Your relationship with him is yours. Don’t worry about mine. We have business. That business has nothing to do with you.”
“I’m not saying I have anything to do with you guys.” She paused. “Not anymore I’m not.”
I squinted, wondering what exactly she meant.
“All I’m saying is that I see it. I see the chemistry and I know something is there…” She paused, collecting her words. “Aaliyah I don’t know much about you but you seem like a good girl. You’re beautiful, you’re smart. You’re business-minded. Hell, you’ve never batted an eye at me despite my best attempts to fuck with you and that alone is commendable because it couldn’t have been me.”
She laughed a little bit recalling her bullshit.
“You deserve more than Larry fucking Bourgeois. You do.” she stopped, her voice soft yet… firm in her words. “You can do better. Don’t let him walk all over you and bullshit you girl.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Whether you want to admit it or not, Larry has you under his thumb and I know he does because you know all about his bullshit and despite it, you still deal with his ass.”
“I work with him.” I remained convicted in my words even though we all knew this was way past work. “I have no choice but to deal with him.”
“This isn’t about work and you know that.” The boom from the music let me know that I was currently missing a really good migos song and while I was a bit annoyed, it could wait. “Larry is holding you back and he will always be on bullshit, no matter what.”
“Karina I’m-”
“You think he was loyal to me while we were together?” She scoffed loudly, pushing forward. “Please. I knew he was cheating and let him cook. He even fucked a couple of the girls who are behind the bar as we speak! He will continue whatever behavior you allow until he gets sick of it and will toss you aside.” she paused, controlling her anger.
I pursed my lips in silence, I could tell her frustrations would get the best of her soon and my lack of reaction wasn’t helping matters.
But if I was being honest, some of the things she was saying made me pause.
“All I’m trying to say Aaliyah is that if it isn’t me, it will always be another girl. You deserve someone who’s willing to just be for and about you.”
“Like I said before Karina.” I paused, turning toward the door and grabbing the handle. “Larry and I have nothing to do with you. I appreciate your concern and your apology earlier, but you don’t know me at all. You and I aren’t the same, and whatever impression you have of me is something you made up in your head. I’m good.” “There you are.” Jamal’s voice caught me off guard as he stood next to the bathroom door. I wasn’t confident that he hadn’t heard every bit of our conversation, and I prayed the audio and thick bathroom door had kept us contained. “You good baby girl?”
I fixed my face quickly, tilting my head with a smile as he put his arm around me, pulling me into a light hug. “Yeah. I’m good.”
“I just ordered us another round and you weren’t there. Tyler told me you were in the bathroom.” He rambled on as we left the hallway leading to the bathroom. As we turned I couldn’t help but look back at the door at a shocked Karina, whos eyebrows were raised. She nodded with a slight smile, which I assumed was because of Jamal and I leaving together.
A couple shots and dances later, and I was back in the flow of the evening.
But nothing said was forgotten.
—————–
I yawned, tossing the oversized t shirt over my head before I grabbed the big bottle of lotion from Noelle’s dresser. She was currently in Amsterdam living her best life and I would be indulging in her bed tonight while she was gone. After we left the club, we went and grabbed pizza and made our way back to Ty and Noelle’s apartment which was the closest.
“I'ma sleep in my damn boxers, shit. I don’t care.”
“Don’t nobody want ya stankin ass on my couch nigga!” She yelled back, with a mouth still full of something, Pizza I would guess or some of the fries I’d left on the table when I went to shower.
I laughed to myself as they continued to argue, jokingly as they always did.
“Mal, you don’t have any ball shorts?” I mused, popping my head out of the room. I heard the phone ringing on Tyler’s end, and her enthusiastic hello let me know that she would be quieter for a little bit.
“Oh shit you right.” he replied to me, watching me walk out of the room and plop onto the living room couch. “Lemme go check my car real quick.”
“You smell good.” he said with a smile before grabbing his keys and Tyler’s, and walking past me, putting his hand ontop of the scarf on my head.
“I always smell good.” I said, rubbing the remaining lotion on my arms.
“You a lie.” He said, closing the door before the pillow he knew I was going to toss at him could make contact.
“Mmm, I don’t know actually.” Tyler continued her conversation before grabbing her Gatorade and downing it. “We’ll probably go get breakfast or something unless Liyah got something to do in the morning.”
“Who you talking to?” I asked, raising my eyebrow before noticing that the marbled phone case in her hands belonged to me.
It was then that I recognized the voice on the other end. “She so nosy.”
“I know, right?” Tyler replied, smiling into the phone. “Always in my business.”
“You’re on my phone, so that makes it my business.” I said, a yawn following my words as I felt myself getting deeper and deeper into the comfort of the chair.
“Your phone rang while you were in the shower so I grabbed it. I figured you’d want to talk to him.” She said to me, still with my phone in her hands.
“I don’t want to talk to his ass.” I said with an eyeroll and a smile.
“Oh please, I know you want to talk to ya nigga. Bye Larry!” She said waving at him. “Tell your annoying ass brother I said hi too.”
Larry laughed as he said his goodbyes and I laughed as she handed me my phone.
My smile remained as soon as I saw Larry’s sleepy face.
“You don’t wanna talk to me?” Larry said.
“Nope.” I said, emphasizing the p to solidify my lie.
“wooooow, that’s fucked up.” he replied, making me laugh as I flopped down onto the bed. Literally as soon as I got comfortable I felt my eyes getting heavier and heavier.
“I’m just kiddingggggggg.” I said, my words slurring with sleep and any remnants of alcohol I hadn’t muted with the greasy pizza. “I always want to talk to you.”
“You look so good.” Larry sighed with a big smile. I could faintly see darkness around him, it was clearly night time as he leaned against the window by his side. My stomach churned and my face warmed with his words. I couldn’t help myself.
“Stop it.” I said shyly, grabbing the blanket at the bottom of the bed and covering myself. “What are you doing?”
The rose and sandalwood blend that Noelle always wore filled my nostrils and made me miss her. It also only furthered my comfort levels as I felt myself sinking more and more into the bed.
“Driving back to the hotel.” He said with a yawn.
“New Zealand, right?”
“Yeah.” he replied quietly, staring at me through the screen.
“No club tonight?”
“We gonna go after we get back maybe? I dunno, the show went too crazy and I’m tired as hell.”
“Was it good?” I yawned, snuggling in more.
“It was so fucking good.” He was still speaking quietly, the microphone on his headphones making his voice sound like it was right beside me. I was tempted to shut my eyes, but I ignored the sting they provided and stayed alert. “The crowd was so wild. They cheer so hard for me and Lau baby, it was the best.”
“That’s so good!” I said back, mimicking his smile and energy even though I struggled to keep my eyes open now that I’d found a comfortable spot. I was toasty warm, covered in a blanket, snuggled into bed, and talking to Larry. I felt at peace.
“I hear you out all night.” Larry said with his eyebrow raised.
I tossed my head back, glancing up at the ceiling as I laughed. “You should have seen me. I was a dancing machine.”
Larry laughed. “I do see. You never dance like that for me, not in a long time I think…”
“What do you mean you saw?” Larry smiled and raised his eyebrows in response to my question. “Tyler posted shit?” I asked, kissing my teeth and rolling my eyes. I’d kill her when I woke up in the morning.
“You look sexy though. That little shorts you have on?” he hissed dramatically, shaking his head and putting his hand over his chest. “My God.”
“Don’t be dirty with the Lord’s name.”
“You look so good though I think I maybe in heaven.”
“Shut up” I laughed, still yawning and feeling my eyes water. Recollections of the night had me remembering the conversation with Karina…
I considered spilling the beans, but I didn’t want a fight. Not right now.
I still needed time to think.
“I’m serious…” Larry paused, the silence of the car he was in and the silence on my end was soothing and lulling, and allowed me to abandon the conversation on the tip of my tongue with ease.“You even more beautiful right now.”
I couldn’t help the soft grin tugging at my lips. He could be so charming. “Thank you, Larry.”
“You’re welcome.”
“I’m sure I’ll see you online in the morning at the club too.” I said, referring to the inevitable fan recorded videos that would flood my work timeline and my alerts.
“Man I going to bed I think, I’m so damn tired. They gonna want to stay up all damn night too.” He kissed his teeth again, prompting me to shake my head at the dramatics of it all.
“Oh please.” I replied through a yawn. “You never too tired to hit the club. Who you with?”
He flipped the camera, showing me Lau leaned against the opposite window to him, mouth ajar as he slept. They had to have been exhausted. These two never took an opportunity to skip out on going out just to rest. Even if they needed to in order to have a good day the next day, they’d push and push.
“He so ugly, liyah. He don’t look better than me ever. I ashamed sometimes.” He cracked on his twin as I laughed, calling him rude between insults. Before I knew it, Lau’s hand dove across the seat and smacked the phone from Larry’s hand.
After a mild tussle, Larry’s face was back on the screen, shaking his head and muttering French insults. Larry was usually the more physical one, while Lau’s verbal attacks were deadly, so I’m sure those slaps I heard came from Larry.
“That was rude.” I joked.
“Nah he a baby.”
“Fuck up, Larry.” Lau said off screen.
“Baby we pulling up to the hotel, I call you when I get in?”
“Yeah I might be asleep by then but you can try.”
“No no, get some rest. You a party animal now.” I laughed, knowing he teased at how much I valued sleep. “You better stay up with me next time I’m in town. I wanna see what you can do.”
“Larry.”
“You gonna show me?” He said with a smile and a slight tilt to his head. I sighed softly, making his eyes narrow.
Larry would get sexual occasionally and though we’d clearly crossed that line many times in the past, him not being here and making those jokes allowed me to still keep the distance I wanted to. I knew sleeping with him would throw me off.
“You so nasty Larry I don’t need to hear that shit.” Lau yelled, making me laugh. “Hi Liyah. You nasty too.”
I gasped in mock offense. “I didn’t do anything!.”
“Don’t listen to Lau.” I heard Larry say over my yawn. “Okay its time for you to go to bed.”
“Yeah I think i’m going to call it.”
“Bye baby, have a good morning okay?”
“I’ll talk to you soon.” I said, kissing my fingers twice toward him.
As soon as the call ended, I dropped my phone and was down for the count.
——– Larry took an extra hit, letting the smoke linger out of his mouth and quickly sucked it back in, lips poked out, still gently laughing. I smiled lightly, singing along quietly to Up by Wiz Khalifa.
Our hands grazed as he passed me the joint. I could feel a tingling on my face and while I knew I was high, that wasn’t the reason. Larry’s eyes caught mine just as Wiz crooned.
“You got me walkin on the ceiling” Larry mouthed along, closing his eyes as he layed back on my headboard.
I found myself lost in my thoughts. Smoking could be so… enticing sometimes. Almost erotic. From the woodsy aroma that the weed emits, the shape the smoke takes as it hits the air, how it can go from a heavy thickness to whispy and thin, the way it lingers wherever it touches… it was easy to find yourself immersed in the moment while you’re high, just watching everything happen around you.
It also didn’t hurt to watch the smoke exit the lips of a picturesque male like this one.
“You should dance to this boo.” I say, interrupting my own thoughts, nudging Larry’s side.
“Only if you sing for me…” he grinned at me, knowing I was much more apt to do so while high. His smile encouraged me.
“Nigga you aint slick.” I said, side eye-ing him playfully and catching myself falling under his spell like I always did.
These were the moments that could never and would never forget. The moments I loved with my love… my best friend.
We didn’t get to do this often, what with our work schedules and just life in general, but the connection never left… and unlike most relationships, the distance didn’t completely ruin it.
It had been harder to stay connected over the years but… I don’t think either of us could just completely let the other go.
Come to think of it, we were probably too damn old to be sitting up in a room, bed covered in snacks, getting high as hell and blasting music. But we loved it. and we made a point to always do it at least once while we’re together. More often than not more than once.
Because everything’s better when you’re high…
All of my senses were heightened at this point. I could smell the notes of the candles burning next to me, the most prominent one being the dark musky but sweet one brought back to me from belgium…only to be burned on special occasions. I could feel Larry’s heavy body on every piece of my skin.
For someone who could move so lightly, his presence could be so heavy. We were between j’s. Larry’s head resting on my chest, My hand tangled in his hair. Him playing with the fringes on the blanket covering us, breathing deeply from the feeling of my nails in his scalp. I could feel his fingers switch jobs, drumming the beat of the opening to the song on my thigh.
I was sent here for you, we were made to love, we were made to love. Could the music have been any more appropriate?
I could feel his voice vibrating against me, like he could mine. My body tingled with a warmth that I knew was more than the temperature. Larry’s scent, warm and inviting, made me feel safe and at home.
This was a familiar back and forth for us. No matter how few and far between these moments come, this would always be it.
“Who that?” Larry’s head popped up as the chime of my phone interrupts the song.
“mmm..” I paused awkwardly as I reached to my side, not fuily sure who it was, but also not wanting to ruin the moment. I was prepared to lie regardless of who it was but the name made me grateful inside. “It’s Lau. He’s pissed you didn’t answer him.”
“Yeah well he should still be pissed, your shit should be on silent too, like mine.“ he mumbled as we both settled back into the bed, side to side now instead of tangled amongst each other. "You not slick baby. Who you waiting to hear from?”
“No one… I just… forgot” I say, pausing to stall. My phone buzzed in my hand again. as a new message popped in the middle of the screen. “Lau is on his way soon.”
“Yeah, maybe he come in an hour or 2, that nigga slow.” his laugh deep, husky, and smoke filled…while holding a bright bunny tooth-ed smile, the annoyance his voice was previously filled with completely changing. Before I could point out his baby face and fully join in with his teasing, his phone rattled against my leg, shining an unsaved number. I ignored it the first time, as he generally keept his phone face down or unseen and on silent, no vibrate, no sound. Seeing the number pop up irritated me immediately, and uncontrollably.
Call me selfish. Call me out on the double standard. I don’t care. I know what those unsaved numbers mean… at least mine isn’t a random fuck…or a basic ass waste of time.
“Don’t pout at me like that baby, I know what you about to say.” He was the one who should have been questioned now, just as I had been a little while ago. The room darkened with my mood.
Neither of us could ever hide our emotions, especially with each other. My second nature scowl was obvious to him before it was obvious to me. “I’m not about to say anything,” I replied, shifting some more to attach my phone to the charger. “Go answer your phone, it’s annoying.”
“No… fuck that. its our time.” He sighed.
Like clockwork I glanced into my hands to see my phone quickly buzzing alerting me to a message, but not from the absent twin. Jamal… texting me, wondering why he hasn’t heard from me today, and seeing how my day is going. He knew where I was, who i was with. He wouldn’t press much.
Hed met the boys a few times. They didn’t like him, but they don’t like many niggas, especially ones who seem like they’re getting too close. The feeling was mutual on Jamal’s end.
He felt left by the wayside when Larry came around. But he knew I needed freedom, and caging me in would be the best way to lose me. So he let it be. We worked best that way.
I let the text go unread and unanswered initially, but I knew the jist of what was there. I guess Larry presumed I would answer it, because when I looked over toward him, his head was buried in his phone, tapping away quickly. I lingered close to my desk, pretending to look through my drawer to give him time. Once i turned back toward him, Larry threw his phone to the side. It began to vibrate immediately after leaving his hand.
“Answer it.”
“It’s business.”
Our words came out simultaneously. Larry rose up and made his way to the end of the bed, walking out of the pale blue room and closed the door behind him. I rolled my eyes, doubting business would have been ignored this long. I quickly shot Jamal a text, letting him know things were cool and we’d get together soon. I closed my eyes as “Good Morning” by kanye began to play, letting it fade into my high. into my head. Into me. —- Larry
The warmth surrounding me spread higher and higher until I tossed the heavy blanket off of my body, briefly disoriented and confused at my surroundings. My eyes burned with a combination of the lack of sleep I’d been getting and the bright sun streaming in through the window and directly covering my entire body. I looked over at the other bed, only to see Lau comfortably sleeping and unbothered by the head as I’d been.
My body was sore as I lifted up, and the dull crack of my joints could be heard through the room, making me cringe and smile in a weird delight at the sound.
Old pizza filled my nose and I looked down, only to see a box with crusts and a couple slices left next to a bottle of wine. The wine was for the girls of course, the pizza being by my bed had to have been my own doing.
Lau and I had one of the bigger rooms, just out of luck, making it the perfect post club party spot. With two days off from tour to travel, we went hard last night and ended up here to cap it all off.
Lau wasn’t too enthused to have the company, he had plans on bringing home a girl but we all nipped that in the bud. I on the other hand was determined to keep my dick in my pants for once, though a few of my consistent girls were definitely hitting my line as soon as they’d found out that the tour had landed in Glasgow.
I smiled to myself at the chicken wings that laid open next to the girls, as well as the many boxes of pizza’s that we’d ordered to have meet us back home after the club. My limbs felt like jello, but as vague bits of my dream came flooding back to me, I began to feel unsettled and uncomfortable in my spot.
I slowly and gingerly walked out into the main area of the suite, which was currently draped in even more sunlight than my bed had been. I smiled to myself at the chicken wings that laid open on the counter, as well as the other two pizza boxes and drinks everywhere. Ashley’s sweater was hanging over the couch, I’d have to remember to grab it for her.
I stretched, grunting once more at the noises my body made, only to see exactly what I had been looking for.
Right next to an open bottle of sprite sat my phone, all my rings, and my wallet. I shook my head, skimming the missed notifications and seeing nothing jumping out at me. Lau’s phone sat on the counter as well, charging and instead of leaving it in its spot, I replaced it with my own.
Just as soon as I’d touched his phone, it rang, and a familiar name crossed the screen, prompting me to answer.
"Lesssssss, wassup.” I said yawning and stepping out onto the balcony so as to not wake up Lau with my conversation. I knew it was fairly early and I could go back to sleep after this.
“Larry, hi, I actually wanted to talk to you.” I couldn’t recall the time change but I knew from the amount of energy Leslie had that it had to be fully into the day. it was bright on her end, and I could tell she had me propped up on her desk, as she clicked away at her computer and the different production devices she had recently gotten and taught herself to use. The drum machine to her left was specially recommended by me and purchased by Lau as a surprise.
Though they’d resolved that their relationship was best left to be open, as he traveled and avoided his own shit and she focused on her recovery, they still clearly felt strong ties and he would always be there for her. My brother had a wandering eye but he was always caring more than he let on. Especially when it came for Leslie.
“You call my brother’s phone to talk to me?”
She rolled her eyes. “You know if I called you first Lau would be mad at both of us for a week.”
We both laughed, she wasn’t lying.
“Listen, I’m about to send you the mix you asked me for, I added some kicks and I played with the last part you didn’t like.”
“Aww shit,” I praised her, feeling the vibration of a notification on my phone. I quickly glanced, seeing that I hadn’t turned my whatsapp off, and sighed, not seeing what I hoped it was. “Thank you. I gonna listen later.”
“Yeah just let me know what you think.”
“I will. How you feeling?”
“Good!” she replied. “Really good. I got PT in a couple hours so I’m just up, feeling ready to get some shit donw. They think I can get my casts off in two months!”
The excitement in her voice matched the bright look on her face and I couldn’t help but smile back. I knew how it bothered Leslie to be tied down to casts and wheelchairs. Her injuries weren’t life threatening thank God, but the road to recovery had been a stressful one to say the least.
“Two? That’s amazing!”
“Right?! I’ll still be in the wheelchair but just with soft casts instead of these hard ones. My rib is still healing but that’s going to just be a process I have to deal with.”
“Damn Les, I’m glad to hear that.”
“Thank you Larry.” My phone buzzed again and I quick glanced, noting that email that Leslie sent had made its way. When I came back to the screen Leslie had me on pause.
“Sorry, Aaliyah just hit me.”
“That makes one of us.” I replied bitterly.
“What?” Leslie asked. I sighed.
“Nothing, man.”
“What did you do.” She said with a hint of joking in her tone.
“Why you think I do something?” I bit back.
“Because you always do something.” Leslie said frankly. I cringed. I had really been out here like that?
Leslie clearly saw my distressed look and felt bad. “I’m kidding, Larry. If it makes you feel any better, Ali hasn’t said anything to me about you fucking up so I doubt you did anything too crazy.”
“She don’t answer my calls or my texts. I don’t get it. I only get emails from her for work. I even try to call her there, girl who answer phones there say she busy.”
“hmm…” she paused. “I mean she has been super busy lately. I barely have seen her.”
“You don’t see her much but you see her a little bit… and I know you talk to her. I don’t see, I don’t talk, and I try. Lau call her, she don’t answer him either. She know we don’t need nothing because we on tour, we not booked for too much but she only email us or text us for work. That’s it.”
“Larry she’s probably just busy.” Leslie assured me.
“She never this busy. Not to not talk to me.” I paused. “We don’t speak in like three weeks almost a month. I talk to her in Australia, and I don’t talk to her since.”
“Was it good when you talked?”
“Yeah, she go out with Tyler and I talk to her before she sleep. I text her in the morning, she reply "Ok.” and that’s it. I don’t talk to her other than for work since then.“
Leslie seemed to be just as confused as I was in the moment, which made the whole thing even weirder. Leslie knew everything that went on between Aaliyah and I and it was something.
"I don’t - I dunno what to say.” She said with a shrug. Her face empathetic to my clear frustrations, but I knew deep down that even if she did know, if Aaliyah had sworn her to secrecy, she would never tell me.
Briefly my mind went back to the dream I’d had last night.
– “Why you keep calling. What you want.“ I bit into the phone with my voice low. I couldn’t take Aaliyah, who was on the opposite side of this door, hearing me. We were at home, I was supposed to be taking a business call and here I was, answering phone calls I had no business answering. This was the last time.
“Damn babe I didn’t know it was like that?”
“Karina… you did know. stop calling me. I see you when I see you.”
“Baby I-“
“Stop that ‘baby’ shit!” I said firmly, sick of her shit. She knew where I was, and who i was with, and as a result hadn’t stopped nagging me, calling, or texting. I could only ignore for so long.
“Nigga whatever.” she said with a sigh. “frontin on me because you’re with that bitch.”
“Ay, watch your mouth.”
“NIGGA FUCK YOU AND HER! SHE AINT SHIT. WHEN THIS BABY GETS HERE WHAT YOU GONNA DO THEN HUH? AND ANOTHER THING…” I hung up before she could get started instead of playing her game. I refused to waste time hearing her shit, or getting pissed and having Aaliyah read me like a book.
I was already giving her enough drama with Karina having a baby, my baby, and Aaliyah, still working her ass off for us, and loving me at the same time. I was already sharing my time between her, work, and my extracurriculars. I didn’t need to give her more stress.
She always knew, even when I tried to hide it, even when she gave me passes. I broke the rules every time I could and still here she was.
I don’t want her probing… or worrying - not anymore than she already did. I would be done with it all once the baby came.
Plus, Aaliyah hates Karina. hell… I hate Karina. but she was so easy to be with. So was Jordyn. and Melanie… and Toya.
Even though my girls were having a hard time letting go, Karina was the worst of them all. I didn’t care though. I made a promise. I would keep this one. This time it was real.
Quickly, after taking a deep breath, I took the call with one of our promoter friends off of mute in order to hear about the upcoming gig Lau and I had in Nepal. It was so crazy…. living in and out of hotels, different places every night.
Home is where the heart is though right?
Home for now would be wherever I could lay my head.
If I had to pick a consistent place though, it would be here. This sunny home in the middle of the city… with her. Always with her.
I barely listened to the details, walking around, pacing from room to room and before finally getting back to the door I’d walked out of initially. Things were unfamiliar, but also completely familiar too. I likened it to not being here in some time.
Everything always changed around me. I watched the walls darken from a pale grey to a deeper charcoal.
After ending the call with a promise of an email, i stepped back through the door, candle wax and slight lingering smoke mostly from the blown out candles still flowing in the air. That, and her perfume. So distinct, but I never knew what exactly it was.
Sometimes, before I left town, I would spray a couple of her smells onto my stuff, just to feel her near. It was never the same but it was as close as I could get. It smelled like comfort. Memories. Love.
Aaliyah was right there, laying on the bed, eyes closed, vibing. I can hear her humming harmonies quietly along with James Blake, too zoned to notice me right away.
Her bed was floating.
Yeah. If I had to choose a home, it would be here…her.
I smiled at the thought of her traveling the world with me. Coming home to this every night. My best friend. I love her. In another life, we’d be perfect. I’d be perfect for her. Everything she deserved.
After everything Aaliyah and I had been through, we were here. Together but not.
I climbed higher and higher until I found myself right beside her, enveloped in clouds. I snuggled myself in closely to her body, mumbling into her ear.
"You know I love you right?” I asked, as she moved, fighting the impending nap that would follow soon.
I really did. I could deny and run and be with whoever but Aaliyah would always be the one I wanted.
I felt the bed rising, floating in the room and I smiled as the bed slowly shifted into the clouds we were surrounded by. The scenery had completely changed and I was at peace.
All because of her.
“You hear me, Ali?” I closed my eyes and breathed in her skin. “ I love you.”
There was no response. I couldn’t feel her under my arm anymore. I opened my eyes - stark white walls surrounded me and where she once laid there was nothing but cold bedsheets. - “I can ask you something?” I shook myself out of my thoughts, this dream wasn’t new. Different versions of it with the same ending plagued me for more than a few nights the past couple of weeks. “Larry I promise I don’t know w-”
“I think one day Aaliyah gonna get so sick of me, so sick of my shit that she gonna leave me.”
Leslie sighed, her mouth opening and closing without words.
“She gonna leave me alone for good you know? And It gonna kill her to do that because I know she care for me. But …you think she too good for me, Leslie?”
“What?”
“You think Aaliyah too good for me? Like she maybe deserve better than me?”
“Larry -”
“No, seriously. Tell me what you think.” I swallowed my stress.
“Yeah.” my chest sunk with her direct answer. “Yeah I do.”
I nodded, not knowing what to say or what even I expected to come out of her mouth.
“But Larry, I think Aaliyah is too good for everybody.”
I shook my head at her attempt to make her candidness better. “Leslie don-”
“Aaliyah is my best friend. That is my sister.” She paused with emphasis. “I would do anything for her and I know she would do anything for me. I’ve never met anyone who I felt fully deserves her because she’s one of the best people I know. Deserve isn’t the right word for this though.”
She paused, thinking a bit before continuing. “You make Aaliyah happy. Very happy. And I know she does the same for you. I see it when yall are together. You two have something very special and that’s undeniable. Anything that makes her happy is good with me.”
I took a deep breath, still silently pondering what she was saying. “Aaliyah isn’t the most transparent with her feelings but she’s… she’s so soft on the inside. She needs someone who can bring her happiness, make her feel loved and safe. You make her feel good, whether she would admit that or not.”
“She make me feel good too.” I said back quietly.
“I know.” Leslie nodded. “I know she does.”
We sat silently for a minute, both of us pausing mid conversation with the unexpected weight of the moment.
Leslie broke the silence first. “But are you ready?”
“For what?” I asked, knowing the answer.
“For this? All of this?” I didn’t reply.
I couldn’t say. Part of me definitely was, but another part still yelled for the free life I’d been living.
“I don’t want you to think that I’m saying this to sway you. You make her happy Larry, yes.” Leslie took a breath, picking up the phone from its resting place and holding it closer to her face. “You make her happy but if you’re not ready, you’re going to waste her time. That’s not fair to her at all. If you jump into this when you’re not ready, and you fuck around with her feelings, I’ll make sure that you never get the chance again.”
My words failed to find me again and she continued. “You two work together and she would never ruin anything professionally but off the clock, I’d make sure you never got the chance to get this close to her again. Even if that meant me losing Lau.”
“Leslie I’m not gonna hurt her.” I said, my mouth dry. “I never want to hurt her. I just don’t want her to leave me because she sick of wait for me to get my shit together. She too good for hurt like that.”
“But you did hurt her.” She said frankly.
“I know.”
“So then what, Larry?”
“I don’t know…” I sighed. “I really don’t know.”

the odd numbered :3 ?
Where Am I From? Malaysia Edition
1. favourite place in your country?
If we’re talking about states, because Malaysia alone has 14 of them (not cities, don’t get confused), I’ll have to go with my hometown which is the capital city and a state by itself, Kuala Lumpur (KL). It’s THE big city where everybody goes or wants to go. My house is in the suburbs on the outskirts of the city, but everything’s just really accessible where I live. Easiest and cheapest way to the city is by train, which I love doing. Lots of places to eat, lots of sights to see. Lived here all my life and I still haven’t scratched the surface of what it’s got to offer but it’s got some really cool places. It isn’t the cleanest or safest place on earth but hey, it’s home.
3. does your country have access to sea?
Yeah, we’re basically a peninsula so the coastal states have beaches and ports to the sea. I’ve not gone to all the states that do though. Sabah (a neighboring country of the East Coastwhich is NOT a state of Malaysia btw) is especially known for their beaches and seafood.
5. favourite song in your native language?
Hahaha my native language is honestly English since I can’t speak anything else, and I don’t listen to Malay or Chinese songs so NEXT
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
I wouldn’t really call them my favorite but I like ‘em a bit, not just because of what they mean but the funny part is HOW we say it. With much needed exaggeration (and sometimes exasperation).
First one’s ‘entah’ which can mean several things depending on context. It can mean ‘either’, ‘maybe’ or ‘possibly’ or just the *shrug* emoji expressing ‘I don’t know’. Example:
A: Kau nak makan apa? // What do you want to eat?
B: Entah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ // Beats me bruh
—-
A: Oi, dia datang ke tak nanti? // Oi, are they coming or not later?
B: Entah dia datang, entah dia tak datang ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ // Maybe they’re coming, maybe they’re not coming, who knows what the future holds bruh
Second one is ‘mampus’ which literally means to ‘die’, get rekt or the ‘then perish’ meme. Example:
A: HEWWO ( o w o)
B: Mampus lah kau! // GO DIE!
—-
A: Kau sudah siap kerja sekolah ke belum? // Have you finished your homework or not?
B: AAH tak siap lagi! Mampus aku nanti! // AAH no, I haven’t finished it yet! I am so dead!
Third one’s not even really a word. Well, it IS a word but it has no real meaning. It’s basically a filler word used as an expression to emphasize the gravity of something, or just to fill in anywhere and everywhere. The ever infamous ‘lah’. You can use it almost anywhere in the sentence - at the beginning, middle and end - and to put even more emphasis, just extend or amplify the sound. Compare these two sentences:
A: Bosan. // I’m bored.
A: Bosan laaaaaaah // I’m so booooooored
—-
A: Mana aku tahu? // How would I know?
A: LAH mana aku tahu?? // How was I supposed to know??
—-
A: Sekejap! // Hang on a minute!
A: Sekejap-lah!! // Hold your DANG horses!!
9. which of your neighbouring countries would you like to visit most/know best?
Gosh I’ve only been to a few so I guess I’d like to visit the others like Philippines and Singapore! I don’t know which one I’d like to know best but I know Indonesia is one of the best places to go island-hopping cus they have so MANY. Also I’ve been to Sabah but not their beaches yet so I wanna go and taste their famous seafood~
11. favourite native writer/poet?
Only one comes to mind and that’s the late P. Ramlee. He could do it all. He acted, directed, sang and wrote his own songs. His films are the only Malay movies I enjoy watching. The comedies mostly, I was never into drama/romance too much. Here’s a whole documentary about him in case you’re interested (it’s an hour long but I cry every time I reach the end).
13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?
If we’re not including religious beliefs into the mix, there are a few that I know of from both my Malay and Chinese sides of the family. Stuff like.. it’s bad to cut your nails at night cus it’ll shorten your lifespan or you’ll get chased by a spirit. Or if a girl sings in the kitchen, it means she’ll get married pretty soon. Or if a person has a stye in their eye, it means they’ve seen perverted things.
Yeah I know, they’re fuckin nuts.
15. a saying, joke, or hermetic meme that only people from your country will get?
When you’re meeting up with friends, there’s always the one guy who’s still ‘on da way’. Also this entire video.
17. are you interested in your country’s history?
Kinda? A little? Maybe just the more modern history but not the ancient history like in the times of kings and queens, and half of it is because of the Malay propaganda most of our history books were re-written and messed up to praise the one major race above the others (wow sound familiar?)
19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?
Eh it’s okay. I don’t remember all the words to the national anthem, I just pretended to sing it in school. The only time I’ve ever felt immensely patriotic was during this years elections.
21. if you could send two things from your country into space, what would they be?
I’ve no idea???
23. which alcoholic beverage is the favoured one in your country?
Majority of us are Muslim and we don’t drink alcohol, so I wouldn’t know. If I were to guess, I’d say Tiger beer?
25. would you like to come from another place, be born in another country?
Not really. I both hate and love my country and I can’t imagine myself being born anywhere but here.
27. favourite national celebrity?
Pfft I have none.
29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country?
Okay remember how I said Malaysia is made up of 14 states? You best believe at least one state has some major beef with another. I remember back in college, students that came from different states kept to their own respective groups and it’s not a secret that Malays are also pretty racist towards each other, just because we grew up with different backgrounds, accents, dialects etc. Sometimes it goes all the way back to ancient history, like back when the states were still clans and tribes and they’ve just carried their family feuds to this day.
My city though, I don’t think so. The capital city is like the neutral hub where everyone from all over comes to meet and mix around. Or maybe some states might have beef with us, I wouldn’t know.

the really fast part WHOA
“one day i’d like to be as mature as my son, who is twelve and a half, and this tall... that’s all”
Year of the Child
the prayer he sings at the beginning is cute
“how can you stop with the prayers at a bar mitzvah???”
“this is the year of jason’s bar mitzvah!”
“his body’s going wild!” too much information
“childen, please” savage
“i’ll bring women from the wrong side of the tracks”
“i guess i’ll have to raise this jason myself” sAVAGE
“look, look, look, look, look, it’s a lesbian from next door!” YAY

“jason asked me to come. since he asked me to come i came”
“just what i wanted at a little league game! my ex-husband’s ex-lover, isn’t that what every mother dreams about having at a little league game?” like he’s his own person, not just your ex’s ex!
“i love baseball, i love jason, that’s what i’m doing here”
“where’d the hell they get that umpire? oh, sorry. sorry!”
“you’re looking sweeter than a donut” he’s channeling his inner mendel
“am i queer?”
“it’s been so long since i could tell...”
“since it’s the only physical imperfection that you’ve got!” now this is a good one (and i think he’s still queer XD)
“we’re watching marvin throw kisses”
“keep your head in the box, don’t think of a thing”
“even maniacs can charm, which he does”
“i love jason, but this is not his venue”
“would it be possible to see you, or to kiss you, or to give you a call?” “anything’s possible, jason hits the ball!”
A Day in Falsettoland
mendel can kill me with every “i don’t get it!” and i’d thank him
“in the 60s we had a new world to start!”
“yes, my name is caroline” “i don’t get it!” it’s not that hard to understand mendel
“AND I DON’T GET IT AT ALL!”
“dropit, sweetheart, giveitupyouknowiloveyou” yes it’s this fast trust me i measured
“isn’t it enough i want you every night?” “who?” “every other night?” “me?”
trina’s laugh and her “everything will be alright” kILLS ME
“for the first time in months, nobody DIED” “yay!!”
“yes i do” did i mention this KILLS ME
“saving lives and loving you”
the “and loving you” they do together, AWW
“that’s not nice” “no it isn’t”
“don’t you think it’s a blessing i’m so pathetically bad?”
the “do you know, all i want is you, anything you do is alright, yes it’s alright!” is so nice
and whizzer’s talking during that up there is SO CUTE
“no it didn’t!”
the end and all the melodies (is that the right word) and mixing whizzer and marvin’s thing and charlotte and cordelia’s and trina and mendel’s thing is WHOA
Everyone Hates His Parents
“travel travel travel”
“it’s not a wrestling match, why are they sweating? it’s not a funeral, what’s so upsetting?”
jason’s notes break the sound barrier, open portals, and make dogs’ ears bleed
“you have paintings of dicks! don’t talk to me about taste!”
“what do you mean you don’t want a bar mitzvah?”
mendel’s greetings to jason, lol
“‘Moses, everyone hates his parents, that’s how it is!’“
“and God knew, because God hated his” XD
“you are gonna kill your mother, don’t feel guilty kill your mother, rather than humiliate her, killing your mother is the merciful thing to do”
“oh my God”
“everyone hates his parents, now i see why”
“jason, please see a psychiatrist” “i’m a psychiatrist! get lost!”
jason and mendel have such a great friendship
“flip me!” this is so cute
What More Can I Say
this is such a nice song!
“but when he sparkles, the earth begins to sway”
“i can’t eat breakfast, i barely tie my shoes”
“i halt, i stammer, i sing a roundelay”
“we laugh, we fumble, we take it daaay by daaay, what more can i say?”
aww
Something Bad is Happening/More Racquetball
“people might think i’m very dyke-ish”
“if i’m a bitch, well, i am what i am!”
“just call me doc, don’t call me lady!”
“we see a trend, but the trend has no name”
“something stinks, something immoral, something so bad that words have lost their meaning!”
“rumors fly and tales abound, stories echo underground!”
“she’s my doctor and i love her! she’s got passion! she’s intelligent, and jesus christ, a doctor!!! <3 very wealthy, and i love her!” AWW
“doctor of internal medicine” sounds like “doctor oven turtle medicine”
“and you always see the glass half full -_-”
“she’s got HEART” sounds like “she’s... HOT!”
“men dressed in drag, next to their moms”
“i like the ballgowns, but Jesus Christ!”
the next chorus
“look a virus has been found! stories echo underground!”
“please forgive me for winning one game”
“something’s gone out of wack!”
“aw shit!”
“try to be a decent loser!” do you really want to have this conversation marvin
“excuse me!”
the soft “do you know, all i want is you, anything you do is alright, yes it’s alright” WHOA
“everything will be alright, everything will be alright”
Holding to the Ground
“very Jewish, very middle class, and very straight”
“life is never what you planned, life is moments you can’t understand, and that is life!”
“but that’s my life. he’s shared my life! yes, that’s my life!” and the beat at the beginning is AMAZING
“everything will be alright, everything will be alright” AHH
this is a really nice song with great melodies!!!
Days Like This
“but today, you seem to be on the way to recovery!” is one of the catchiest parts of the whole musical
“it’s days like this i... almost believe in God”
cordelia is so wonderful did i mention that
“gefilte fish!”
“also a soup made from chicken that, though unexotic, is antibiotic!”
“why, i’m up to my ass in a kosher morass!”
the harmonies in this song are GREAT
“days like this we almost believe in...” “gefilte fish!” “GOD!” XD
trina and whizzer saying hi to each other is cute, i want a trina and whizzer friendship
“or else the hydrants moved!” -cordelia laughs- then everyone is like “no, no” and she’s like “nobody? okay”
“how can i help, says the wiry psychiatrist!”
“he’ll make you well!” “right...”
“gee you look awful!”
“i’ll let you win, whizzer” “don’t let me win” “i’ll let you win!”
Cancelling the Bar Mitzvah
“here’s your chance to give me hell”
“can’t we wait til whizzer gets better?”
“finally now it’s my decision! like it’s my Bar Mitzvah! just like nothing happened! hell, let’s have a party! just like nothing happened! why don’t you make this dumb decision yourselves, okay, why don’t you make this dumb decision yourselves?”
“we’ll have the Bar Mitzvah?” “no” “we’ll cancel the Bar Mitzvah?” “no!”
“tell him things happen for no damn good reason!”
“holding to the ground as the ground keeps shifting” GOSH this describes this well
“everything will be alright”
Unlikely Lovers
first of all, this song the THE. PINNACLE. of gay/lesbian solidarity
whizzer’s “do you want me to reply?” kills me
“right” “it’s just-” “don’t fight!” “that i haven’t died yet” “just stop it” “i’m sick, but kicking (i always imagine this with finger guns)” “geez” “alright” “louise”
“i’m staying here in this spot whether you want me to or not”
“please go home and don’t be scared” andrew rannell’s voice is... so... BEAUTIFUL (and i’m also listening to book of mormon a lot lately so yknow i’m getting a lot of it, yay)
“oh baby, please do. i love you, too” aww
“drink a little something til you’re dead!” too soon whizzer
“shh” ... “SHH” ... “SHH”
“WE’LL COME IN” this is so hilarious for some reason
“look at us, four old friends, four unlikely lovers!”
“let’s look like we haven’t!”
“i love bad weather” XD
“and we vow that we will buy the farm, arm in arm, four unlikely lovers!”
such a sweet song :D
Another Miracle of Judaism
“i can’t hear your fingers snappin!”
“are you just a big psychiatrist??”
“in exchange for... could you please make my friend stop dying? i’m not naive, it won’t be easy”
this song is sad :(
“God... that’d be the miracle of Judaism!”
Something Bad Is Happening (Reprise)
this is pretty obvious, but slowing this down makes it SO MUCH SADDER AHH
“something very bad is... happening”
“something that kills, something infectious:
You Gotta Die Sometime
this. is. SUCH. an. AMAZING. song. WHOA.
his voice in the beginning is so SAD and he’s so SAD
“okay, when the doctor started using phrases like ‘you’ll pass away’ what could i say?”
“doctor, here’s the good part. at least death means i’ll never be afraid again!” :(
“death’s gonna come, and when it does, screw the nerves, i’ll be eating hors d’oeuvres!” i love that line but “hors d’oeuvres” is a STUPIDLY SPELLED WORD
“it’s the roll of the dice and no crime, you gotta die sometime”
“then the scene turns to black” he sounds so discouraged
“life. sucks.”
“i would cry if i could but it does no damn good to explain i’m a man in my prime! you gotta die sometime”
“give me the balls to orchestrate a graceful leave, that’s my reprieve”
“it’s the last little mountain i’ll climb! I’LL CLIMB!” i LOVE that part
“you gotta die sometime! you gotta die sometime! you gotta die sometime! you gotta die sometime, sometime, sometime! sometime! sometime! sometime! sometime! sometime!” the first time i heard this i thought whizzer died here :0
Jason’s Bar Mitzvah
“i said, let’s have my bar mitzvah HERE!”
“this was jason’s brilliant idea, and i brought the prayer shawl!”
every “OOH, IT’S JASON’S BAR MITZVAH” is great
“i’ll unwrap the billion hors d’oeuvres, and someone please eat them!”
“i feel more helpless than i have in years”
when marvin says “mendel!” it sounds like they’re actually friends now, and that’s very important to me
“but i feel that, since i’m the host, it’s me who should toast him!”
“actually... we’re seven”
“the food tastes really yummy!”
marvin’s verse to jason is really the sweetest thing
“son of marvin, son of trina, son of whizzer, son of mendel, AND GODCHILD TO THE LESBIANS FROM NEXT DOOR”
What Would I Do
the second saddest song in the musical
“what would i do if i had not met you? who would i blame my life on?”
“if you had not been my friend?” all of these are so sweet
“only one my child would allow!”
“when i’m having fun, you’re the one i want to talk to!”
the music before whizzer shows up and his lines are GREAT
“do you regret?” “i’d do it again! i’d like to believe i would do it again and again and again!”
their harmonies are AMAZING
when i first listened to this, i thought it was just before whizzer died, but the fact that he’s already dead makes it so much sadder, and gosh, he can hit such good notes, even from beyond the grave
whizzer’s last “doo” is SO AMAZING LIKE WHAT THE FUCK
Falsettoland (Reprise)
the saddest song in the musical HANDS. DOWN.
“homosexuals... women with children... short insomniacs...”
“we’re a teeny tiny band” this is SAD
“this is where we take a stand”
“welcome to falsettoland”
when i listened to falsettos while looking at the lyrics on genius.com and i was caught up i cried during what would i do and i REALLY cried during this, i’m sure i’ve cried other times listening to this song
but the thing is, for some reason i barely cry during musicals, i’ve cried like once listening to hamilton (during Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story), definitely during Words Fail (but probably only because i listened to it after having a panic attack/breakdown thing and it hit really close to that experience) and maybe not during much else? but this? THIS is sad af
that’s all, i just love this musical so much it’s amazing!!!

- ̗ ̀fan account ̖ ́- #TURBULENCEinLA
let’s start this yo okay so i met up with @poeticyoungjae (mina) and @soft-jaebum (mia) at the venue around 1ish?? i got there last because i took forever to get ready and then my sister and i hit traffic :/ but it was all good
i honestly thought the line was going to be suuuper long to get our wristbands (hence why we got there early) but it wasn’t! there was no line at all so we got our wristbands and we were set!
we then ended up going to ktown to go to this kpop store and it was so fun the car ride was the best thing because we were bumping to got7 and when boomx3 came out we pulled down our windows and we were getting lit! (i bought this cute jaebum ring thingy for my phone from the kpop store and IT’S MY FAVORITE THING EVER)
by the time we got back to venue it was like 4ish and we just walked around and bought stuff from the fansites and got all the cute banners and stuff they were passing out
we were just hanging out when we hear someone talking from the mic and i guess that was the cue that the doors were gonna open soon so i booked it up the stairs (idk why if our the venue was all seated so we had a guaranteed spot ???)
so we’re all out here doing fan chants calling the members names AND ONE OF THE MEMBERS (I HAVE A STRONG FEELING IT WAS JACKSON OR BAMBAM) OPENS THE CURTAINS FROM THE VENUE RECORDING FROM THEIR IPHONE AND EVERYONE IS JUST LOSING THEIR MARBLES (they did it a couple times)
so that got everyone even extra pumped so we’re waiting and they finally open the doors (by this time, we had met up with @cu june) so it’s me, mina, mia and june and we’re all walking in arms linked so we can get our tickets scanned
we get our tickets scanned and we have to separate because mina had center, june had left center but mia and i were on left so it was kind of :( but it was all good
mia and i walk to our seats and i honestly didn’t think i was going to be that freaking close??? (i was row e seat 39) like i was sh*tting bricks because i was hella close (mia was 2 rows behind me if any one is curious)
so i’m sitting by myself waiting for people to sit next to me so i can make friends and oh my god everyone around me was so sweet (none of them had or used tumblr so we added each other on snap but i love them all so much and we actually planned to meet up if we go to the next got7 concert/fan meet)
so we’re all talking getting pumped and people just start screaming and my friends and i were like ??? whats going on AND WE COULD SEE BAMBAM WITH HIS SNOWFLAKE HAIR AND I THINK IT WAS JACKSON FROM THE CURTAINS
THATS WHEN IT GOT REAL BECAUSE THE LIGHTS DIMMED AND THE CONCERT WAS STARTING
they started with ‘let me’ (I WAS SINGING MY HEART OUT EVERYONE AROUND ME WAS LAUGHING) and then it was ‘boomx3′ (DOUBLE B) and then ‘just right’ those were the first 3 songs they performed
after ‘let me’ they introduced themselves AND LET ME TELL YOU, WHEN JAEBUMS SAID “hi guys i’m jb” I-I ALMOST D-E-D JUST 4 WORDS AND I ALMOST K.O
i got the cutest jinson interactions i’ll post them later but bless i think i’m passed my markjin phase hello jinson i’m ready to be loyal
okay okay so they did the questions where they get the sticky notes with questions on it and ask another member the question and honestly!!! i can’t really remember-JUST MOTHERPHUCKING KIDDING I REMEMBER SOMETHING
JAEBUM WAS TALKING DURING AND IDK IF THE VIDEO GOT CUT BUT I REWATCHED ONE OF MY VIDEOS AND IT WAS QUIET EVERYONE WAS TRYING TO HEAR JAEBUM EVERYONE WAS BEING GREAT EXCEPT FOR MY ASS IDK WHAT HAPPENED BUT I JUST START SCREAMING “JAEBUM YOUR ENGLISH IS GOOD YES YES *screams*” (HE LOOKED AT MY PHONE Y’ALL I JUST WATCHED ANOTHER VIDEO AND MY DUMBASS WAS SCREAMING THAT I LOVED HIM SO HARD AND HE WAS STARING AIDNAJSNJSJDJSJSJ)
okay moving on if you read my tags i love disney so much when mark asked what their favorite disney movie was i obviously lost my marbles and wow jinyoungs favorite disney movie is toy story bless hIM
yugbam danced to juju on dat beat AND BOY WAS GETTING IT AYE AYE
watching them play the guess this song game was one of the best things to watch jaebum kept having to do the squats while flapping his arms like a baby bird and there was one point where they put their ears to the speakers to guess the song like wow they was getting wild they was here trying to pop an ear drum (youngjae won and i loved hearing him sing a part of the song he guessed bLESS)
tHERE WAS ONE TIME WHERE JAEBUM WANTED TO GUESS A SONG AND HE RAISED HIS HAND SO QUICK BUT THE TINIEST AND SOFTEST “jaebum” CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH IT WAS THE CUTEST FREAKING THING I LOVE HIM and then the rest of the members teased him about it it was cute
jaebum and yugbam had to sing their parts on helium and freaking bambam started singing watch me whip and do the stanky leg and yugyeom sounded so cute he sounded like a minion
they played the behind the scenes from the filming of hard carry and came back on stage with ‘fly’ but okay so we all have seats and we can stand but we have to stay at our seats but there were these groups of girls that ran to the front of the stage so everyone else thought it was okay too so they kind of blocked the way and my friends and i were trying so hard to stay at our seats but ended up getting frustrated because couldn’t see crap so ended up moving a little up (don’t worry we didn’t stay there when we were suppose to be seated like most people we would go back to our seats)
‘FLY’ WAS SUCH A HYPE STAGE YOUNGJAES VOCALS WERE FREAKING AMAZING AND THEY WERE DANCING SO HARD YUGYEOM DIDN’T COME TO PLAY MY BOY WAS GETTING IT EVERYONE WAS DOING FUCKING AMAZING AHHHH I LOVE THAT STAGE
after it was ‘if you do’ and jaebum came out with his emo side and had his hood on (i hope he was doing it for the effect i hope it wasn’t bad or anything pls pls pls i hope he wasn’t upset or anything okay no bad thoughts arianna stop) but yeah my boy came out looking good and was going HARD AND 2JAES VOCALS AND MARKSONBAMS RAP
that stage was amazing tambien i just remember saying “FUCK IT UP” throughout the whole thing
they started their goodbyes and oh my god i was so :-( merp but i was so happy when youngjae sang for elliot yamin he sang for him and then he got up from his seat and was so hyped for youngjae ahhhh i’m so happy for him our sunny
jaebum said his speech and wow i seriously love him with everything my 🌎"thank you for coming *my screams covering up what he said after* peace” and THEN MARKS SPEECH REALLY HAD ME HE WAS LIKE CHOKING UP AND GOD I’M SO HAPPY HE WAS HOME THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LETTING HIM BE HOME (idk who i’m thanking but JUST THANK YOU)
jacksons speech really got to me like i know i’ve been saying this but (not to be a sap) his speech was something i really needed to hear oh my god i’m going to cry BUT JUST UGH I LOVE JACKSON WANG
they “finished” up with ‘hard carry’ and honestly i thought it was for real done like idk why i forgot about ‘homerun’ but they came back on stage AND HAD THEIR ENCORE STAGE ‘HOMERUN’
THIS STAGE WAS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVS IT WAS LIKE MY TOP 3 1. boomx3 2. homerun 3. fly
OKAY BUT I KNEW THEY CAME CLOSE TO INTERACT WITH THE FANS BUT I DIDNT THINK IT WAS GONNA BE THAT CLOSE I WAS SO CLOSE TO JINYOUNG HE WAS GIVING SO MUCH FANSERVICE YUGYEOM ALSO HE WAS OUT HERE BEING THE CUTEST THING (i also got cute jinson moments here)
jaebum didn’t come to my side :/ its cool i see him no i’m kidding but i have a close up of each member except my babe BUT IT’S ALL GOOD BECAUSE HE MADE IT UP AT THE HI TOUCH (i know this very long and theres probably going to be more but pls bare with also thank you for reading so far :-)
they finished up ‘homerun’ and they did their bows and it was such a heart warming feeling like i really saw them perform i was and still am so happy like i didn’t even cry i was just so happy i couldn’t stop smiling :-) i could just feel all my love and their love and it was just a big aroma of love and i loved it
^^^ i was going based off my memory and videos but i forgot about when they played the hacky sack game oops
okay so when jaebums partner was introducing herself her name was kat (like a gato) and she did like claw with her hand and jaebum was confused he was kat? and she was like yeah kat and did the claw thing and once he understood he was like oh kat and did the claw thing too aiandjsjdjsjsjs CUTEST THING
and once again youngjaes partners name was arianna (or ariana) and every time they said her name i would scream so freaking loud (i think she was one of the girls that they surprised in the buzzfeed video but i’m not sure)
jinyoung is hella good at that hacky sack game when he was done i kept screaming “messi who?? messi WHO?”
and lastly MARK CARRIED HIS PARTNER BECAUSE THEY WON AND I SWEAR IT REMINDED ME OF A DRAMA HUG WHERE THEY’RE IN SLOW MOTION AND HUG DRAMATICALLY IT WAS SO CUTE AND JACKSON WAS BEING THE BIGGEST GENTLEMEN (like always) TO HIS PARTNER HOLDING HER COAT AND PUTTING IT ON AND THEN PUTTING IT BACK ON HER
oh and bambam called his partner queen and noona and aishsinajsjsjsjs i love him
OKAY HI TOUCH TIME so they’re finishing up the photo op and now i’m reunited with mina and june so its mina, mia, june, 2 other friends we made there and me! we kind of wanted to go last for the hi touch but apparently some fans went twice for the hi touch :/
i guess they didn’t leave the venue and just went back in line and got to high five them again so security was getting pretty strict and somewhat rude
so before anything else could happen we got into line (we ended up losing june) and the line started moving fast
the line up was jackson, jaebum, youngjae, mark, yugyeom, bams, and jinyoung
so ya girl was coming up with what to say to them and the line is moving hella fast!! so mia was first then mina then me and our other 2 friends
i get to jackson and he’s leaning on the table and i high five him and tell him “please be healthy i love you” aidnajjsjsjs he gives me his little turtle like smile and i freaking almost d-e-d but jaebum was after so i pulled through
something happened and mark was not letting go of minas hand so i was with jaebum for like a cool minute so he has like his hand in a low high five position and i’m resting my hand on his and i’m telling i love him and to stay healthy and thanking him and he’s nodding and smiling and staring into my soul like hard core and oh my god i thought this was it this was the end for me it felt like i was going up to heaven
his hair was covering his eyes but i could see his eyes and FLIP I LOVE HIM SO MUCH JAEBUM I LOVE YOU
its youngjae next and i sorta blacked out with jaebum because i was there pretty long and youngjae is the cutest thing ever i high five him and tell him i love him and thanked him and then mark!
i don’t know what happened to me but i was chill with mark so i start “welcome home mark… mark you look so good in turtle necks i love you” HE WAS NODDING SO CUTELY AND WHEN I SAID THE TURTLE NECK THING THING HE RAISED HIS EYEBROWS AND DID THAT CUTE CHUCKLE HE DOES AND I ALMOST K.O AGAIN
then it was the maknaes and i told them i loved them and thanked them (i forgot what i wanted to tell them because of everything that happened :/) and finally it was the prince himself jinyoung
jinyoungs english is so good everyone he practices so hard to improve his english each time they come to the states so i knew what i had to say “jinyoung i love you so much your english is amazing thank you for practicing so hard we all appreciate it” he was nodding and smiling and said thank you aidnajfjsjsjs in my head i was like boy don’t thank me thank yourself you’re out here Doing that THANK YOU
and that was it i walked down the stage and mina and mia were a little ahead of me and once i got outside the venue mina was holding my hand and I BROKE DOWN
I WAS ON THE FLOOR CRYING HOLDING MINAS HAND AND I JUST COULDNT BELIEVE I SAW THEM I LOVE THEM SO MUCH THEY WORK SO HARD FOR ALL US AHGASES AND I JUST WISH I COULD GIVE THEM MORE THAN THANK YOUS AND I LOVE YOUS BECAUSE THEY JUST DESERVE IT ALL I LOVE MY ANGELITOS
after my little moment i had to leave because my sis was already at the venue ready to dip so i said bye to everyone and i had my little dramatic ‘looking out at the stars through the window’ moment while we were driving home
BUT MINA AND MIA SAW MARK GETTING ESCORTED OUT THE VENUE TO HIS CAR AIDNAJFNSJNSJSJS low-key jelly
but yeah that was my fan meet experience if you read all this: thank you so much i love you and i should be posting most of my videos and picture tomorrow while i’m at school (it’ll probably be in my queue)
ON ONE LAST NOTE: JAEBUMS HAND IS SO SOFT HIS LITTLE CHEETO PUFF FINGERS ARE SOFT SO SOFT aidnajdjsjsjs

Hoop-Dee-Hoop-Dee-HOOP-DEE-DOO!

Hoop-Dee-Hoop-Dee-HOOP-DEE-DOO!
The longest running Revue show in the country happens to be at the Walt Disney World Resort, and takes place at Ft. Wilderness Campground and Resort. It is known as the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and its three daily shows almost always sell out. Some friends of mine wanted to go, Jay had never been, and it had been almost two years since my last visit so that’s where we went a few Fridays ago.
Getting to Hoop is always a bit of a process. It’s located in the heart of Ft. Wilderness so you can park at the front of the campground and take the bus or you can take a boat over from the Magic Kingdom. The boat is a little more fun, but the bus is quicker. We, however, parked at the front and walked because we were Pokémon hunting and it took a good twenty-five minutes. We were still pretty early so we wandered over to the Draft Horse Barn.
Early in the morning, there are horse drawn carriages that take guests up and down Main Street, USA at the Magic Kingdom, and this is where those horses are housed. It’s massive! I had flash backs to the summers I spent at Kentucky Horse. There was a one year old Clydesdale colt named Rookie in one of the stalls, but I was disappointed you’re not allowed to pet any of the horses or ponies. On display at the very front of the barn is the Calliope that was used for the opening of both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, and when you push the button it lights up and plays some of the music from those parades. Across the hall is an exhibit dedicated to the history of horses in the Disney Parks with models of themost common breeds on display. I had a good laugh when I realized the models are actually Breyer Model horses, which I used to collect! We then wandered over to the porch of Crockett’s Tavern to sit in the rocking chairs until it was show time.

We were one of the first in line and we picked Category 1 seating since Jay had never been before. The hostess led us to the very front of the theater, our table was right behind the piano and banjo player! Our waitress was there right away to take our drink orders. Hoop-Dee-Doo is a three course meal, all-all-you-can-eat served family style with unlimited drinks. The best part: unlimited sangria! The first course of salad and cornbread is served as everyone is still being seated. Jay tried to read the menu but I would only let him look at the drinks because I wanted dessert to be a surprise. I literally found out a week earlier that strawberry shortcake is one of his favorite desserts. Everything is served in metal buckets in a variety of sizes. Robert dished out the salad as the cornbread was being fought over and the two musicians came in to start getting settled. The banjo player immediately started talking to us, and I made the joke that as long as he knew “Rocky Top” we’d get along just fine. (That’s the University of Tennessee fight song.) His response, “I do, but it sounds an awful lot like Happy Birthday.” He did play it for me later, but I’m not sure at which point in the show it happened.
Every time I go to Hoop-Dee-Doo, I always expect the animal heads on the wall to start talking like the Country Bear Jamboree.
Suddenly the sounds of wagons and horses filled the air, thundering hoofbeats as a stagecoach pulls in. The doors flew open and in ran the Pioneer Hall Players! They weaved their way around all the tables and made their way up the stage steps, carrying a variety of props and instruments. They gave a hurried explanation of their misadventures, something about a stage coach breaking down, as they toss their hats and jackets off. The Hoop-Dee-Doo leader is a red head named Dolly Drew, and she finds herself backed by singers Flora Long and Jim Handy, the dancing pair Claire de Lune and Johnny Ringo, and last but not least, funny man Six Bits Slocum. They sang an intro song about the Hoop-Dee-Doo itself while introducing each member of the troupe and their skill set. They sing a variety of classic American frontier songs over the course of the show. I don’t want to list them all because there’s no fun in spoiling the whole thing.
Six Bits asked the audience, “Are ya hungry?” “Yeah!” “Oh you can do better than that, I said ‘ARE YA HUNGRY?'” “YEAH!” He jumped in the air, “Let’s eat!” The performers stepped off stage and the servers descended onto the floor with full platters. Buckets of fried chicken and ribs with smaller pails of mashed potatoes, corn and baked beans. The potatoes were gone in minutes, but no one really touched the beans.
After our tummies were getting full, the Pioneer Hall Players were back. Six Bits wanted to help Johnny and Jim sing the new song they had been working on, “My Darling Clementine”, except he always sang the wrong word. Instead of Clementine he would say something that was close, but not quite right: Valentine! Frankenstein! I was extremely disappointed because this is usually where my favorite joke occurs and they didn’t tell it this time. (It involves the phrase, “Do you wanna build a snowman?”)
Dessert was served with its own musical number and our waitress was on stage with a huge platter of strawberry shortcakes. We were so close to the stage she got to us first, but by that time they were announcing the big Hoop-Dee-Doo spectacle, the Ballad of Davy Crockett. Dolly and Six Bits stayed on stage as Jim, Flora, Johnny and Claire headed into the audience to find “volunteers”. I pointed at Jay eagerly hoping he would be chosen… No such luck. Instead Johnny came to our table and held his hand out to me. They usually pick an older gentleman, a younger man, a younger woman and a ten year old boy. Literally the only female role in the whole thing and I get led up on stage. At this point, I was just really glad I had seen the show previously and knew what was coming.
They lined us all up across the stage and Dolly asked why each person was picked. The ten-year-old: “His bravery!” The younger man: “His strength!” Me: “Her beauty!” Cue me turning red in the face. The older gentleman: “His… intelligence!” We were all pulled backstage as the Ballad of Davy Crockett began, based on the lyrics of the old Disney song. Honestly, it doesn’t make complete sense but it is cute. (It is not cute if you are me and are standing nervously backstage.) A dress and a headband and POOF! I’m a can-can dancer! Of all the styles of dance I have done in my life, can-can is not one of them. They told me to hold my skirt up until they told me to drop it so my bare legs were showing and I regretted the decision to wear shorts. I could hear bits and pieces of the show going on, and every single one of Six Bits’ bear puns. He was dressed as the bear Davy killed when he was only three.
They did a really great job of making sure everyone knew exactly what they were doing and in the exact right spot for the show. I stood in my spot until they cued me, “This is supposed to be a can-can dance, not a can’t-can’t dance!”, and Johnny led me out onto the stage where I tried my best not to actually look at the audience and not be dazzled by the lights. It’s a trick I learned in my Jungle Cruise days, you look over people’s heads instead of directly at them. Dolly said, “She looks great, but can she dance?” The men in unison replied, “Who cares?” The music started and I did my best impression of the can-can: right, right, left, left as the audience chanted “Oooh la la!” The music finally stopped and I heaved a sigh of relief as they told me I could finally put my skirt down. I moved over to the side as Davy quite literally kicked the bucket, “T’weren’t nothing ma’ams, that’s what us legends do!”, and the older gentleman came out as “Davy’s Angel”. There was then an argument about who Miss Oakley AKA Dolly was supposed to kiss, Davy AKA Johnny or the Bear AKA Six Bits. Then Claire says, “No, that there can-can dancer is supposed to kiss that there bear!” Johnny leaned close to me so I could speak into his mic, “I can’t do that I’d be too em-bear-assed!” Then Johnny escorted me backstage to return the dress and headband, Jim called my name and I curtsied as he handed me my certificate. Then I raced off the stage as fast as I could.
I tore into the untouched strawberry shortcake. My friends had been too busy watching me to eat.
The actual finale to the show involves napkin twirling and washboards with spoons before a reprise of the original song from the beginning as they all headed out the same way they came in. They put their hats and coats back on, grabbed their props and ran back through the tables and chairs and out the front door. We gathered our stuff up, including one of the paper menus to go with my certificate. I watched a gentleman from one of the nearby tables try to tip the musicians and it broke my heart they had to turn it down. Then we headed back out into the sunshine to wait for the bus back because we were too full to make the trek back to the cars.
Hoop-Dee-Doo is an amazing dinner show experience, and I consider it a must-doo for all Disney fans. There’s no pixie dust or mouse, but there’s definitely magic happening at Pioneer Hall. It’s one of my favorite places to take family or friends who are visiting if we aren’t doing parks.
Cost: Hoop-Dee-Doo Category 1 is $72 per person, Category 2 is $67 per person and Category 3 is $64 per person. We sat in Category 1 this time, but I’ve done all three. There isn’t a bad seat in the house, but with Category 3 you have to turn away from your food to face the stage so it’s not great if you want to stuff your face. Prices include tax and tip!
Duration: 2 hours.
Value: Hoop-Dee-Doo is wonderful and worth repeating every now and then.
