MINION ACQUIRED: SAND FOX
The descendant of a thousand-year-old vulpine spirit, this creature dreamed of training under the tutelage of its legendary forebear, Sotan. Alas, it was turned away, and ended up taking you as its master instead. Though it will devour most anything you give it, it has grown fond of birch syrup.
Please may no mind to the arcanist passed out in the background. She’s fine. Mostly.

FINALLY getting to post my notes
Featuring a bit of extra stuff from ep 11, and mostly stuff from ep 12.
Huh. A!Sougo used the sounds of B!Sougo and Tsukuyomi coming down the stairs to mask his coming into the shop, and used the sound of Woz entering to mask his grabbing the pen and paper. When we see the door first, from the main room, the cup of pens is on the stand, but when we see Woz coming (from behind) it’s on the floor. Didn’t notice that the first time around.
Wait, where did A!Sougo learn what Helheim is CALLED? (I noticed this during his description of how Asura became Another Gaim, during my second watch) (and it was never revealed, damn)
“Oh, drat, I’m gonna walk in the door any minute, gotta dash!”
Social darwinist who has spent the last five years in a murder forest: pft, yeah, like you can kill a guy.
Skinny boy who isn’t really sure he’s able to do this, having gotten his butt handed to him with very little effort very recently: I can totally do it, just watch.
Kaito: uh huh, sure kid.
Geiz: (takes this as a personal insult)
there is no heart in this Team Baron performance and that hurts me on a personal level.
seriously, Tsukuyomi, where did you get that microphone?
Woz, on the overpass as A! And B! Sougo meet: how could I forget? Teenagers are morons.
EPISODE 12
Opening: Woz is not okay with this. Woz is not okay with any of this.
Wait. Sougo. “I needed another me.” That’s. That is not what Kouta was getting at. That’s not it at all.
“trust in your friends strength, a king can’t go it alone’ DOES NOT mean “okay, so there needs to be two of me to help him”!!!
Kouta: “Is trying to solve everything by yourself really your idea of what a king does?”
Sougo: Sure is!
it’s nice to know that driver or no, whether becoming an overlord of Helheim or being stuck there, living in a broken timeline or deceased in a virtual world… Kaito is Kaito is Kaito.
(now if they could have treated Eiji with the same respect.)
We’re just two dudes, chatting across a street, on top of different roofs, because we’re time traveling jerks…
Aaand in Kouta’s Fruit Basket, we have: Oranges, grapes (purple), a pinecone, a melon, and a bunch of bananas.
Upon the Passing Of The Ridewatch: “Hey! Here, take this. Something tells me it’s for the best! (oh thank ME I can retire)”
Geiz: “Two zi-o’s? OH NO I SCREWED UP OH GOD HE’S MULTIPLYING”
Huh. “You don’t want me to be an overlord, right? Then bring it back.” that’s not a “then be here to keep me from going bad” type of phrasing. That feels more like a warning. And so does A! Sougo’s expression.
Kaito: You have a bike. Right. There. Come on, kid, think this through. (I miss my rose bike)
a god and his power should not be so easily erased
a god and his power should not be so easily erased
A GOD AND HIS POWER SHOULD NOT BE SO EASILY ERASED
a   g o d   a n d   h i s   p o w e r   s h o u l d   n o t   b e   s o   e a s i l y   e r a s e d
(if only kaito had tossed a baron ridewatch at geiz as he left)
Uh, guys. Team Baron? Half of you have been missing for years. Everyone that got stuck in helheim was brought out in 2018. there’s going to be issues from this, yeah? I know we won’t see them, but that’s gonna be a problem.
(Kaito did you help all your boys not die? Good for you, buddy, you’re learning.)
Pft. The chicken’s a callback! The uncle asked them to get chicken while they were out in OOO’n’Genm, and Geiz followed through. That’s adorable. Now if ya’ll could treat the rest of continuity this well…
Preview for Ghost’n’Decade:
“Hi, I’m Takeru. Welcome to what was my own personal hell for six months! … oh god, you. you are a literal child. I was a child. Excuse me for a moment.”
“Look, kid, I’m still a Kamen Rider. I’m a world destroyer. Maybe don’t lean into the prophecy so much? It doesn’t end well, and then one of your only friends has to kill you, and everyone just gets mad at you for all eternity. It’s really not worth it.”

Through the Looking Glass Ruins
So I watched season 2 episode 4, and I didn’t write about it because I didn’t feel like it, but now I’m watching episode 5 and do, yet I’m the type to feel weird about not at least addressing episode 4 (because perfectionist/completionist tendencies), so thoughts in brief for that one:
We see Mama Clawthorne; turns out she’s the type to seek out alternative medicine to find a “perfect” cure
Notably, Eda’s curse has always functioned as analogy for chronic illness, both mental and physical—but especially mental given the way it is discussed in the show and the way that real mental illnesses after often considered “monstrous” in a way that physical ones aren’t
Mama Clawthorne goes from being totally suckered by the scam to totally seeing through them remarkably quickly. Unfortunately undersells how difficult it can actually be to undo this sort of thing
Seeing Eda’s “empty inner space where she deals with her curse” gives me some guesses about some spoilers I’ve seen; I’m guessing she reaches some degree of mastery over and/or acceptance of her curse and gets an anime power-up
Hooty doesn’t get to live with his new best friend anymore, but hopefully the experience helps him get along better with the others
Anyway! On to episode 5, “Looking Glass Ruins”. I’m already a bit into the episode, but the main notable thing up to the point where I’m at was how the cold open felt really fast. It quickly established that Gus and Willow had some trouble, but the episode isn’t about that, yet it’s still necessary context. I guess it mostly feels notable since I’m not used to a cold open being almost exclusively for exposition.
3:35 - And finally this is where I am currently. Just a bit before though, Gus was expressing some, like, regrets over his choice of magic school: disillusioned with illusions one might say. This seems like it could tie into how Eda, and the other “members” of The Owl House, just learn all magic, ignoring (and actively rebelling against) the Coven system. Gus could join in with them.
But interestingly, the introduction of these three “heroes” with magic types that Gus admires sets of a situation that I’d expect to be resolved with Gus learning the value of his own magic and finding satisfaction with it, and himself, again—which is at odds with moving towards to the former point.
3:44 - Oh. It’s this guy again.
4:15 - Getting RPG questing vibes now. Wonder if Luz would be interested in it since it’s sort like the structured narrative adventure that she’s into. But maybe this will be more of a Gus episode.
5:02 - Huh, maybe the episode will do both: give Gus more confidence about his illusion magic while also giving him a taste of other magic via glyphs. Show the efficacy of illusion magic through how it complements others, which also showcases the reductiveness of the Coven system
5:38 - Ah right, Luz can’t join on the adventure because she has some investigation to do. So this is the episode’s B-plot.
8:20 - I wouldn’t be so quick to say that illusions can’t be enhanced. Quite possible that they’d have one of the most significant enhancements: making them “real” or, rather, tangible: able to touch, grab, and hit things.
9:00 - Contextually, it almost feels like Gus is “cheating” somehow, even though this is real magic—and the way Luz does her magic. Hmm, I suppose the “cheating” is Gus presenting it as if he’s using the usual spell circles. Are they keeping the glyphs secret? Given the Coven system, using the glyphs this way [to use magic outside of one’s Coven] could technically be illegal. But it would be interesting it knowledge of them gets around, starting with these kids
9:50 - Amity is adorably motivated about the idea of seeing where Luz comes from
11:30 - Oh, these all sound like illusionists. So the “amplification” brought on by these stones are probably, well, illusions. Answers why these supposedly powerful artifacts would just be left here
11:50 - Ah, so Gus hadn’t reached the conclusion I had (yet). Indeed, as an illusionist himself, he’d be more inclined to respect these graves. And it seems the rest of these kids, and perhaps magic culture in general, disrespect illusion magic and their practitioners.
12:10 - I figure all of the magics that protect this place are also illusions. But, like, in a way that demonstrates their efficacy, rather than proving otherwise.
12:36 - Gus may be out of glyphs, but if it turns out the guardian here is an elaborate illusion, he can recognize that and put on a show of fighting it with his own illusions (of, like, fireballs and stuff). It could even turn out that it’s the proper way to “fight” this guardian: prove yourself to be a competent illusionist
13:13 - Oh my God. This is so good. The imposing Nightvale-esque librarian turning out to be just, well, a normal librarian.
14:30 - I was right about the illusion, but I wasn’t expecting a person to be behind it. Hmm, I guess we haven’t seen much—if any—in the way of autonomous magics. Even abominations have always been shown with their creator/controller/master within a relatively close proximity. (Though, the Amity security company implies that they should operate autonomously at a distance.)
14:48 - Oh, so the Stones actually amplify magic? Or is this still part of an elaborate ruse? It would still be on brand for an illusionist to make a big show of “protecting the powerful artifacts” that don’t really do anything
20:35 - Mouse that can turn a book into a documentary?!
As usual, that was a fun episode. I consciously made sure not to force myself to comment on, like, everything. Because, honestly, I had been forcefully commenting on things that I didn’t really care about in previous posts, which was exhausting. For example, as cute as the Luz/Amity stuff was, saying something about it every time would have been forcing it for me. I appreciate it as part of the show, but I’m personally not super, like, excited about it. So yeah, learning how to comfortably do this sort of thing.

Completed
Did all of these last minute
This is my favorite of the three suits not only do I like the outfit but I also like that it has separate poses. Plus it's a male suit. Downside is I'll probably never use it of the background pieces. Curse my completionist tendencies.

By the end of this event, I’ll either have a French Chateau or a few hundred Social Points. Either way, it’s giving me a headache.

curse my completionist tendencies paired with duolingo's insistence with putting perfect lessons in their quests system. im delirious and feverish rn and i cant spell for shit and i had to get two perfect lessons and my brain wouldn't let me give up and go to sleep bc the quests would be gone in the morning but everytime i made a mistake i got another step closer to crying. let me make mistakes, duolingo, i don't have to strive for perfection to learn
