Black Sails

I don't think I can write a proper review of BLACK SAILS because that would require rewatching all of it, and the last time I did that, I couldn't get through all of Season 1 because of the truly punishing level of sexual violence, but I have several overall comments:

The sexual violence is really a lot. It's somewhat less pronounced in the later seasons, although the later seasons also expect you to buy a sort of face turn for Charles Vane, who is chiefly responsible for the punishing degree of sexual violence in the first season.

It is exhaustingly overwritten, especially in the final season. It's like being trapped in your home with the members of an MFA writing seminar who follow you to the bathroom and the kitchen and attempt to impute complex character nuance to your choice of toothbrush and pizza toppings. Given how clumsily written recent teevee often is, the writers' determination to build a thematically complex narrative is admirable and all, but EVERY conversation in the later seasons is layers within layers of rhetorical jousting for meaning, and it's just wearying. Sometimes less is more, and I'm not convinced that a narrative in which a cigar is never just a cigar is categorically better than a story that eschews all nuance.

The brutality of the violence can get oppressive, even for the kind of show it is. There were various points where I ended up muttering, "Is this really necessary?"

It doesn't actually line up with either TREASURE ISLAND (to which it's notionally a prequel) or the real history of the historical characters. At points, it acts like it's going to, but it doesn't, and its attitude toward both the Stevenson novel and the history of the period is kind of like Quentin Tarantino's. I don't especially care about TREASURE ISLAND (it was never a favorite even as a kid), nor do I care much about real-world pirates, but the lack of congruity becomes distracting. I would be fine with the show taking a "This is what the characters in the book later say happened, but what really happened is …" approach, but it doesn't even do that. Why?

Its version of Long John Silver is the least-interesting and least-compelling character, especially if (like me) you are wholly uninterested in shipping Silver with Flint. Long John Silver is generally the hub around which adaptations of TREASURE ISLAND revolve, since he is in that story the most interesting and charismatic character: obviously treacherous, but not wholly unsympathetic; crude in speech and full of blarney, but more cunning than he lets on. The BLACK SAILS Silver is a weirdly taciturn twitchy little weasel, and of course, like most of the show's characters, he talks like he's in an MFA seminar. There's something to be said for playing a character against type, but Silver is one of the biggest incongruities between BLACK SAILS and TREASURE ISLAND, which I thought was a puzzling choice.

I have to ramble about this for a bit as someone who loves lives and laughs manipulative psychology and human behaviour.

Simon blackquill is a fraud.

The only thing he does is use the eye trick. Aka concealing part of your eyes to put others at unease about your intentions. However, thats like?? Not what he needs. He needs people to listen to him. Which, yes, amazing, he does that via threats and violence, which technically are parts of manipulative psycology and DOES work in his case, since he's an inmate.

However i do wish that he'd be a bit more... well, charismatic isnt the word.

Ok here's a part from "the art of manipulation" in short

When two animals of the same clan are fighting, the one that realizes might get in trouble leans downwards in a sense to not futher anger the other one and in a way manipulate the more violent one to cease and "listen" to the one leaving violence behind. In the end its the one who pretended to give in that got their way.

Simon uses intimidation due to his height and overall air he exudes (emo). He's the first animal.

For the sake of debate, bobby's the second animal.

Often, yes, simon does get to tell bobby around, and bobby does as he says. But who's actually winning? Not simon, despite what you might think.

What is bobby's goal? Making simon more... docile? More calm. To rehabilitate him. To put him back into society.

(Im not even gonna mention the shackles bcz that's the worst thing they could've added and for the sake of convenience).

Most of the time, when simon wants something, he growls and snarls till he gets his way. Bobby is not necessarily encouraging those behaviors by ceasing to him. In a way, simon's inadvertedly makes himself more vulnerable.

Take the "we'll be out for a stroll" argument. Simon decides he's had enough, bobby, instead of insisting he has to stay there, goes with him happily. Why? Not because hes dumb or malleable, but because letting simon take a breather in turn clams him and bobby knows this. And moments where simon can strp out and breathe are moments where he lets himself loose and does not think about attacking anymore.

Simon thinks he's got his way. (Animal 1), but he hasnt.

If anything, he's just been the biggest victim of psychological manipulation this whole game.

Also, he sucks at making others listen to him. The whole thing with "your baldness" and "ur old lol" should've not have worked. They only made it work cause "o woe, simon so smarrt (we dont know psycology help)"

Insulting, raising your voice, intimidating... these things dont make people listen to you, they make them temporarily shut up and do your way, but start thinking of ways to contradict you next.

Weirdly enough, submissiveness is the highest form of manipulation.

Now, im not saying simon should've been submissive. He's a convict. He would've gotten his ass kicked in 2 seconds. Im saying that he shouldve been more cunning.

What is the second best manipulation besides submission? Flirtation

IM NOT SAYING HE SHOULD FLIRT WITH THEM EITHER.

Im saying that a bit more of charisma wouldve went a LONG way to improve the idea of simon being a master manipulator.

In a way, they did make him compliment/praise the witnesses every now and then when they did something correct, but it never reslly stuck out to me as manipulation as much as mild sarcasm.

A funny warm welcome

Hello everyone! And welcome to my page. 

A little bit about this blog:

Since 2018 I’ve been dealing with depression. It began with a job loss, transitions in important relationships, family trauma, and of course my own bullshit; because we all got some, right? But we will get more into that later.

I found one of the only things that helped me cope, was taking long soothing baths. I never thought they could be so healing to the soul.  I needed warmth in my life with the coldness I was facing. I suppose you could say it was a symbol of what I needed in my life. warmth and a respite; and it delivered.  

A lot of things would consume my mind and I thought why not start a blog about it. Not sure if anyone will actually read this, but on my end it serves as an outlet whether or not. 

One of the things I thought about is Zodiac Signs (find your chill, more serious topics to come) just for fun and a warm up. I have no idea WHY some people take these so seriously and hello, I am one of these people.  I am the worst sign out there: GEMINI! LOL and I’m only saying this because it comes up has the most hated sign most of the time. But I’m used to being disliked, you could say it’s meant to be. Whether you find zodiac’s ridiculous, or weirdly intriguing; let me know if this post resonates with you - the good or bad. 

Here are some pros and cons about each sign based off my experience with each one. In my opinion, we need all new signs…

PROS ABOUT EVERY SIGN

Aries are very hard working and make strong leaders. Pleasantly optimistic and extremely determined. They will help you get to where you want to go if you’re willing to listen. 

Taurus are generous and can’t help but be helpful.  Caring when they can trust and feel comfortable with you; they really do want to see you win for the most part.  

Gemini’s are intelligent and extremely creative, great communicators too. Love to give a helping hand and remember important aspects about themselves and others. 

Cancers are caring and take pride in showing that to their loved ones. Put family above all else and will stick up for others when needed. 

Leo’s LOVE being the life of the party. Almost always know what they want and how to get it, loyal. 

Virgo’s keen attention to detail to make everything perfect is what makes them one of the most well-orientated signs. Hard-workers, smart  and insightful.

Capricorns are the most goal orientated sign, success is the essence of their being, nothing less. Smart and hard-workers. Decent motivators as well. 

Aquarius are very intelligent and independent. You can learn plenty from them, great educators don’t be shy to ask them anything inquisitive. Humanitarians 

Pisces are kind, sensitive and caring. Compassion and creativity is their being. Forgiving and can be intuitive. 

CONS ABOUT EVERY SIGN 

Aries are bossy and rude AS FUCK. Don’t always know what’s best for themselves, you can’t expect good advice from them. Will leave you in the dust and act like nothing happened. 

Taurus can be shit talkers and it’s typical of them to twist stories to their liking. They LOVE to gaslight the soul out of you. Can be glutinous. 

Gemini’s get angry a lot, extremely hot and cold. Hard to trust and can be deceptive in getting what they want. You best run after you disrespect them as well. DRAMA. 

Cancers are the most cunning, they are VERY sensitive, but don’t be fooled by that. They use their emotional intelligence to manipulate; can be cruel. 

Leo’s will always make you feel guilty for their mistakes. ALWAYS. It’s the self-centered part of themselves they cannot help. (Like Men) they also make lousy friends due to everything being about themselves, and what they need and want. A big UGH.

Virgo’s love to make you feel inferior and insignificant. They see themselves as the best, it’s part for their “perfection” and it’s a NIGHTMARE. Always think they are right, enjoy shaming you in front of others to make themselves look better (no joke, someone wrote on a forum about this exactly; see pictures below - this is actually the sign I dislike the most followed by Leo)

Libra’s will sit back, and let you sink. Even though they know you’re drowning, it’s scary. HUGE gossipers, can’t tell them much unfortunately. (Still love them though; biased cause they are my fave sign)

Scorpio’s are secretive and keep to themselves. And to be honest, I do like the female Scorpio’s for the most part, but the Male ones are on a another level of runaway as fast as you can. Extremely vindictive and unforgiving so you prob won’t want to cross either gender on this one, you could hear from them everyday, or never again. I’ll leave you with that. 

Sagittarius…self centered a bit, will use and dump you if you aren’t on the list of their priorities.  

Capricorns are cold, to the point of cruelty. (A trait of all Earth signs) Opportunists at heart, if they don’t see you as stepping stone for themselves, it’s see you never. Quite selfish and GODLY. 

Aquarius are always arrogant about something…can be SNIDE and off putting with back handed comments. 

Pisces can be EXTREMELY ignorant and oblivious. It’s all about what you’re willing to put up with at the end of the day.

Meeting and Dating Billy Loomis

- You met Billy when the two of you ended up in the same class. He noticed you while looking around the room and was immediately taken with you.

- All throughout class, he kept sneaking glances at you, barely paying attention to the teacher as they talked. When the bell rung, he sat back in his seat and watched you leave, deciding that he had to have you right then and there.

- He starts out by doing the typical ‘I have a crush on you’ secret staring and learning more about you; most likely through Stu or by listening in on your conversations. He wants to make sure that you’re the one for him before he shoots his shot; he’s artful when picking people that he actually wants to date, there’s more steps involved.

- Once he’s gathered enough data on you, he’ll sit next to you in class, lean over, and introduce himself with a charming smile. You introduce yourself back; most likely a little flustered by the sudden attention, and then class will start, ending your potential conversation.

- He tries to talk with you all week but his plans are always foiled by something or someone. One of you will show up to class too late, someone will take the seat next to yours, you’ll be busy talking to a friend, someone will distract him and you’ll disappear; and so on. It frustrates him more than he cares to admit.

- Finally, he figures that he has to work a little bit harder so he strategically waits outside of the school with some of his friends. I say strategically because he made sure he had a perfect view of the doors everyone leaves out of when classes end.

- The instant he spots you, he excuses himself and jogs over, greeting you and asking what you’re planning on doing after school. The two of you strike up a bit of a conversation before you’re forced to say goodbye and board your bus. It may seem anticlimactic but to him, it’s a crucial point in your budding relationship.

- After that, he just seems to keep popping up wherever you are; in school at least. Unbeknownst to you, it’s not exactly a coincidence.

- The two of you form a bit of a friendship, and why wouldn’t you? He’s charismatic, fun to talk to, isn’t put off by anything, and pleasantly reserved so it feels like you’re special because he chooses to speak “with you of all people”. If you’re shy then congratulations, you’ve found the one person who is tactfully persistent enough to break down your walls.

- It’s probably a few months before anything of value happens, besides being integrated into his friend group and telling each other some of the things you usually don’t tell people.

- One day, while the two of you are walking to class, he asks if you like horror movies movies. When you ask him why, he tells you that he’s renting a few films and was wondering if you wanted to join him for a bit of a marathon.

- It’s sounds so casual that you’re sure he just wants to hang out as friends, but regardless, you agree.

- So you get to his house and the two of you are sat on his couch, some gorefest horror movie that he chose to watch playing on the tv. He excuses himself to go get a drink and when he comes back, he sits down beside you again although this time much closer than before.

- You try not to think any of it, even as his arm wraps around the back of the couch behind you. Well, you don’t think anything of it until you can feel his hand on your shoulder, fingers tracing shapes against the skin of your arm.

- You aren’t sure what to do, so you don’t do anything, staying perfectly still as you struggle to breathe properly, a flustered heat coursing through you. The two of you sit like that for a few long moments before he slowly pulls you into him and speaks.

“Y/n,” he says your name quietly, his voice deep. He pauses and waits for you to respond which you do so with a nervous hum. “I like you a lot. You know that, don’t you?”

“I like you too, Billy.” you respond in a near whisper, eyes focused on your lap.

“Good.” He whispers back, pressing his lips to your hot cheek as his hand finds the side of your face and he pulls you into a kiss.

- Lets hope that you’re sure about being with him because now that he has you, he certainly isn’t planning on letting you go anytime soon.

- Constant Pda. He likes having his hands on you at all times; it’s just a bonus that it shows everyone in the general vicinity “who you belong to”.

- Gentle forehead and cheek kisses.

- Hugs from behind where he nuzzles his face into your hair and jaw.

- Long makeout sessions. Once you start, he never wants to stop.

- Getting late night visits/sneaking out to see him. He shows up at your window pretty much whenever he feels like and has subsequently gotten very skilled at climbing up the side of your house.

- His favorite nickname for you is “sweetheart”. He just feels like it suits you and likes the little smile you get on your face when he calls you it.

- Cuddling? Billy would never admit it to anyone but he absolutely loves it. Oftentimes, he’s the big spoon, but he can’t deny that he loves it when you cradle him into your chest, especially when he’s tired or having a rough day.

- He lounges whenever he can so expect to be laid/leaned on, or to have him maneuver himself so that he’s laid back yet still has you close to or touching him.

- Long and deep conversations. The two of you experience existential crises together.

- You’re going to be around Stu a lot. The two of them are constantly hanging out so you and him are; most likely, going to be close as well.

- Sharing food with each other.

- Hanging out at the fountain.

- Horror movie dates.

- Constant movie references, quotes, and random facts.

- A Fall slut through and through. Falling leaves? Sexy. Pumpkins? Hot. Anything spooky? Orgasmic. He usually goes ape shit during holidays but during the fall, he goes ape shit for a whole season.

- He has a wonderful skill of popping up at the “right” times. You seem to constantly run into him and you aren’t sure if it’s really a coincidence or not.

- Random phone calls. Sometimes he plays around with you, other times he gets straight to the point.

- Back massages. He lets out these little moan like noises which make it really hard to think straight as you’re trying to innocently rub his back.

- Hand holding.

- Playing with each other’s hair. You’re constantly brushing his out of his eyes.

- He toys around with your things, either while he’s bored or to make you laugh, or just to fidget with something while you talk.

- He loves hearing you laugh and seeing you smile. He feels accomplished whenever it’s because of him, like he’s done something revolutionary.

- His fathers rarely home so you usually have the house to yourselves. He likes the privacy, being able to do whatever you please with no interruptions. It’s the teenage dream, isn’t it?

- Wearing his shirts, especially when you sleep over at his house.

- Surprisingly sensitive about certain things and somewhat easily offended. He takes you not wanting to touch, see, or be seen with him very personally, even if there’s a legitimate reason behind it.

- Weirdly enough though, he’s got a really high pain tolerance. He’s a trooper when he gets hurt and always amazes you with how little he reacts. He once sliced his hand open when the two of you were together and while you were wrapping something around the wound, all he did was let out a little “ow” and chuckle at you.

- He’s a bit reserved; he’s not a huge social butterfly so he prefers just hanging out with you and a few close friends. He’s friendly when he has to be, he just doesn’t really like talking to people he doesn’t know/know very well or being in huge crowds.

- He loves just watching you. He could look at your face for the rest of his life; all day, everyday, and still never get tired of seeing it.

- Intimate eye contact. There’s so much emotion behind his eyes when they meet yours. He could make you flustered with a single look.

- He never pushes you to do anything you don’t want to. He does such evil things most of the time, it’s nice to be seen as “the good guy” and to treat someone he cares about with respect.

- He’s a cunning bastard. If you need something done, he’ll find a way to do it. And if he needs something done, then he’ll find a way too and it may or may not involve you.

- Growing suspicious of him and his absences or the little odd things that just don’t add up. You swear he’s hiding something....

- He hangs back and waits for you when you want to go do something quick, like ask someone something or drop something off somewhere. It doesn’t ever annoy him; he likes being able to know what you’re doing.

- He’s definitely a bit overprotective and clingy at times. He’s got some deep rooted abandonment issues so he wants to make sure you’re not going anywhere or somehow going to get hurt and have to leave him because of it.

- He’s quick to interrupt when he can tell you’re uncomfortable and insults/scolds people when they upset you.

- He yearns for that motherly role in his life so he snaps at the chance to get it from your own mother when the two of you begin dating. It’s certainly a bit odd when you find him and her hanging out in your kitchen or how quick he is to agree to joining you on family outings/activities when you’re about to decline, but you are happy that he’s getting the very thing that he seems to need.

- Later in your relationship, he’ll open up to you more and tell you about his family life/ everything that goes on in his head. Just be patient because it’ll take him a while to completely trust you with everything.

- He’d rather cut off his own dick then cheat on you. He sees it as the ultimate sin, the worst thing you could ever do to a person ...besides abandon them.

- He has a mean streak when it comes to jealousy. He can’t stand the thought of you; his girl, with someone else or having someone else like you. He’s threatened and/or glared people down before if he’s thought they had a thing for you.

- Sensitive subjects really aren’t his strong suit. He always seems to say the wrong thing whenever he’s faced with them and it’s caused more than a few fights/arguments between the two of you.

- He gets angry when he’s angry, if that makes sense, although it really depends on what’s making him upset. He can either stay very calm or start rioting like a maniac, it’s really like flipping a coin with him. He does tend to flip out on other people rather than you though, so that’s good, right?

- He apologizes when he’s in the wrong and never expects you to if you aren’t. He also has a particular talent for worming his way back into your heart after he’s royally pissed you off.

- He doesn’t tell you he loves you constantly but he says it at the right moments so the words have a lot of meaning whenever he says them.

- Like I said, he doesn’t plan on letting you go anytime soon. You’re the one for him and he’s going to keep you with him for as long as he can.

i came embarrasingly unprepared to this and i have no excuse…well…c’est la vie. i’m ac, 24, she/her and i hail from the unholy gmt+1 timezone. this is my boi julian, he’s an oldie but goldie. okay, this intro is just gonna be very short and basic because first of all…unprepared and second of all, i’m dumb ya know?

XAVIER SERRANO, CIS MALE, TWENTY FIVE, HE/HIM   ⟨  ✽  ⟩   hey, you haven’t bumped into  julian blake  lately, have you? they have been living here for the past  twenty-five years and during that time, locals have gotten to know them as  charismatic  &  clever.  a little birdie told me they can be quite  cunning  &  arrogant  though. explains why they’re a masters student in political science at whitby university.  they really remind me of  abnormally high standards, the burning feeling after taking a shot and smirks that infuriate.  if you’re ever looking for them, i bet you can find them around  conan & sons.

BACKGROUND & PERSONALITY:

to  keep  it  short  and  sweet. julian  was  born  in  spain... his  parents  were  young  and  broke  and  they  already  had  one  child  to  take  care  of. julian  wasn’t  exactly  planned  and  so  they  gave  him  up  for  adoption.. and  that’s  how  he  ended  up  with  the  blake’s.  they’ve  been  living  in  port  briar  for  ages,  well  on  the  outskirts  in  some  over  the  top  mansion.  both  of  his  dad’s  succesfull  in  their  respective  fields,  a  politician  and  a  lawyer.  which  would  explain  his  compromised  moral  compass....

he  was  definitely  an  easy  child  growing  up,  he  didn’t  get  in  much  trouble  and  just  kinda  took  care  of  himself,  very  independent  from  the  get  go. could  easily  find  entertainment  when  bored,  generally  dealt  very  well  with  boredom  tbh. it’s  supposedly  very  healthy  and  all  that.

around  his  teenage  years  he  started  becoming  more  influenced  by  his  peers  and  although  he  still  mostly  steered  clear  of  scandals  and  drama….you  could  always  kind  of  find  him  adding  fuel  to  the  fire. man  the  guy  loves  gossip  and  watching  people  fight  each  other  as  long  as  they’re  not  fighting  him.

anyway,  from  a  young  age  he  was  playing  soccer,  sort  of  a  homage  to  his  birthplace. he  was  good  and  he  only  got  better  with  age  but  he  also  grew  a  lot  more  distracted. see  he’s  not  really  that  good  at  fully  applying  himself  to  things  he’s  kind  of  the  master  of  half-assing  things  and  getting  away  with  it. king  of  bullshitting. truly  he’s  just  lazy  but  he’s  great  at  putting  others  to  work.

it’s  kind  of  how  he’s  gotten  through  college  so  far  as  well. with  a  major  in  political  science,  and  honestly  a  weirdly  good  business  sense,  he  could  probably  sell  sand  in  sahara. he’s  arrogant  but  just  charming  enough  to  get  away  with  it,  even  if  he’s  lying  through  his  teeth,  he  has  a  certain  way  of  sarcasm  that  most  people  don’t  catch  on.

he’s  on  the  whitby  soccer  team,  has  gotten  offers  to  play  professionally  but  it’s  like...a  lot  of  work  and  he’s  just  extremely  indecisive. so  when  whitby  approached  him  about  doing  his  masters  there,  he  kinda  accepted  without  even  really  thinking  about  it. kind  of  just  an  insane  excuse  to  put  off  making  a  decision  for  another  two  years. he  somehow  gets  away  with  half-assing  soccer  as  well  -  despite  actually  loving  it  -  showing  up  late  to  practice  or  with  hangovers  or  not  showing  at  all.

likes  to  be  the  smartest  person  in  the  room,  albeit  he’s  most  likely  not,  but  don’t  get  me  wrong  he’s  definitely  smarter  than  he  looks,  and  it  won’t  stop  him  from  acting  like  it. very  business  savvy,  knows  how  to  charm  a  crowd  even  if  that  crowd  is  simply  a  bunch  of  rich  old  men  gathered  around  a  table  in  a  conference  room. twisting  people’s  words  and  actions  to  his  benefit  is  also  kind  of  a  specialty  of  his. —   tbh  he’s  fairly  easy  to  deal  with  when  you  know  him,  he  may  think  he’s  super  clever  and  mysterious  but  he’s  just  kind  of  a  fool. his  humor  is  very  specific  and  yet,  you’ll  find  him  with  a  smile  on  his  lips  like  most  of  the  time,  even  if  it  is  one  you  kinda  wanna  smack  off  of  his  face. has  a  tendency  to  laugh  at  the  wrong  times  though,  don’t  take  it  ill…it’s  not  you. it’s  him.

drives  an  aston  martin  vantage  f1  edition  because  he’s  got  expensive  taste  okay,  although  he  obviously  has  several  choices  including  his  beloved  motercycle.  the  aston  martin  is  his  preferred  though.

he  lives  in  a  nice  apartment  on  high  street,  with  his  two  year  old  dobermann  called  zeus.  it’s  his  most  used  phrase  “  can’t,  gotta  take  zeus  for  a  walk  ”

Is your character popular in the fandom? YES / NO. It depends on what you mean as popular. Whoever has ever played DA2 knows Orsino because he’s important to the plot (especially in act 3) but the opinions on him are conflicted. like they are on any morally gray character. Still, he is a side character who has like 5 scenes in the entire game, so I believe he’s not getting the attention he deserves.

Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. Orsino certainly is not everyone’s cup of tea, I can say that much. Physical appearance-wise he is very attractive for what he is: a stressed/depressed middle-aged DA2 elf who has seen SomeShit™ in his life. He has aged way more graceful than what he could have, but still, he is in his late 40s/early 50s, which can be a deterrent factor to some; also, the elves in this game have distinctive inhuman-like features that people either love or hate. Personally, I think that there is harmony and beauty in his features, which makes him weirdly pretty to look at and i love the fact that they gave him an hourglass body shape. However, Orsino’s true beauty lies in his personality and his calm, collected, polite demeanor. His voice is another huge bonus.

Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. I mean... he’s a First Enchanter who keeps his knowledge on blood magic and necromancy a secret, there are hints that he’s a somniari mage throughout the game, he has some very badass scenes where he kicks the asses of bigger/stronger opponents than himself when he’s outnumbered AND he has one of the 2 boss battles in the finale of the game. There is no doubt that he is a force to be reckoned with in battle.

Are they underrated? YES / NO / IDK. I think he’s criminally underrated not just by the fandom, but even  the creators of the game, who gave him no backstory, only a handful of scenes and butchered his character just to add another boss battle.

Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. Meeting him along with Knight Commander Meredith and Viscount Dumar earns you an achievement (the “friends in high places” one). He is one of the main antagonists in the third and most crucial part of the game and you can either choose to side with him or oppose him.

Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. Lots of elements in the storyline depend on the protagonist’s political views on what’s going on in Kirkwall, and since Orsino is a prominent political figure, he is relevant to the protagonist’s views. He can be either an ally or an opponent, depending to what the protagonist’s views are. Also, he had been involved to the protagonist’s tragic loss of their mother -albeit indirectly-, since he was an informant of the murderer.

Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. He’s a controversial but VERY well-known public figure, to the point where he can be recognized in the streets -even if people have never seen him before, they can recognize the staff he carries, his distinctive robes and the fact that he’s an elf (an elven first enchanter is news in itself, so he doesn’t go by unnoticed). The protagonist has heard of him -along with rumors and gossip surrounding him- before he had the chance to meet him in person. He has such influence and people skills that he even carried out a rally to overturn the Knight Commander’s rule of the city and almost succeeded.

How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. Depends on who you ask. Mage sympathizers see him as a brave advocate of his people’s rights who wouldn’t hesitate to put his life on the stake for them. The common folk and the city authorities see him as a potentially dangerous troublemaker and rebel.

How strictly do you follow canon? — I try to follow canon mostly in my canon verse, while taking some artistic liberties due to the lack of a concise backstory. In post-canon verses and au’s, I have taken all the insights on Orsino’s personality, views and way of thinking and I have adapted them to fit each verse’s context.

SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  For him ‘mage’ is not just a term describing his abilities, it is also a term describing his personality as a whole. He has that elegance, cultivation and mystical charm about him; he is morally grey yet charismatic; witty yet cunning and certainly not one to be toyed with. Despite the exterior of a powerful yet restrained scholar he maintains , however, there are many layers to him and each is darker than the last. He can be both the erudite conversation partner you’d like to have an existential conversation with over a glass of good wine, a trusted advisor you’d confide your problems to and a force to be reckoned with who would obliterate you or your enemies in battle, depending on the situation. Still, the First Enchanter has some very vulnerable sides too, but he tries to keep them to himself.

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  — In the main verse he’s a minor character; with not as much involvement in the protagonist’s life as other characters (such as the companions). He’s also kind of secluded and not in touch with whatever happens in real life -not just because he lives in the Circle, but because he has been institutionalized, like any other person who has been brought there from a very young age. Also, there is the age gap which can make him a bit harder to reach than someone younger.

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  When I played DA2 for the first time, Orsino piqued my interest because he was the very definition of a tragic figure.  He was the only voice of reason in the madhouse that is Kirkwall; yet he was fighting alone for a just cause that was doomed. He had the whole city and the authorities against him; still, he did not give up trying to protect his people; and he did his best to refrain from violence until the bitter end. His death -a suicide, no matter how you cut it- was equally tragic as the life he led; it was seeing the bringer of hope for mages losing all hope himself and deciding to go fighting and not on his knees. That, combined with his sarcasm and sophistication convinced me that I had to do justice to this poor underappreciated soul and dig deeper into his character -even try to write an alternative ending for him. Hence, this blog was created.

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  My amazing roleplay partners with all the good work they put into their characters and the love they have shown me and my character so far. I love you guys <3

Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.

Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? i have my doubts sometimes, but i think i do ok. Still, I would love to have more feedback to see how i can improve even more.

Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF Headcanons, metas, the works.

Do you sometimes write drabbles? YES / NO. I am not sure what is meant by ‘drabbles’ but sure, I’d love to write more of those.

Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO. All the time, especially before going to bed. That is where all those rp ideas come from.

Are you confident in your portrayal? YES / NO / SORT OF? Again, i don’t really get much feedback, so i am not that sure if I am doing any good and if my Orsino sounds genuine

Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO / SOMETIMES. I like how i have written some threads more than others, I’m not gonna lie.

Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO / SORTA. I am a sensitive person in general, but not someone whose feelings are easily hurt/triggered or someone who takes things that are not my business to heart.

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  Criticism is welcome only when it is constructive; in the sense that there are clearly stated arguments as to what I do not do right and suggestions on how to improve. If someone sends me an ask like “i don’t like x just because” or anon hate, I am just going to ignore it.

Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  — YES!!! YESS!!! YESS!!!!!!! I cannot stress enough how helpful it is for me to receive suggestions and questions that help me explore sides of my character i have not thought about so far! Even if your questions are the randomest things ever, i’d still LOVE to answer them. I have received some asks like “what would Orsino do in x situation” in the past and they were SO fun to write!

If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  Of course! As I said, so far the opinion is supported beyond the ‘just because’, I will be happy to consider it. Anything that helps me broaden my perspective is welcome.

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  same as the above.

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  — I do not really mind; i am the first person to recognize that Orsino is a controversial figure and people may hate him for whatever reason. I might not agree with the hate, but each to their own I suppose.

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  — If they do not do it in the typical ‘grammar nazi’ style i’m chill with it. Grammatical errors tend to happen more often than not, just because i almost never proofread. *shrug*

Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  I think so, yes. As I said, I am not easily annoyed, triggered or have my feelings hurt, and i am very excited to interact with new people. Still, i do recommend reading my verses/about/rules pages, if anything, to know what to expect from my portrayal and activity patterns.
