I’ll confess that I’ve been pretty lax about my morning treadmill walks lately. Chalk it up to being worn out by the world. After a couple of weeks at work active and crazy enough that I was too wore out to exercise in the mornings, I’m back on the treadmill. I decided to go for a different audio series than Doctor Who. I have no knowledge of Timeslip, beyond what I’ve heard in @bigfinishprod’s promotion for this series, but it’s a lot of fun! I feel like the first episode gave me enough information that I understand what’s going on, and I’m a sucker for time travel stories, so I’m pretty much hooked. And it features Sarah Sutton, a long-time favorite actress. With the origin/introductory episode out of the way, it was fun to hear a regular adventure. While parts were reminiscent of the Avengers—in a good way—this felt very much it’s own thing. I particularly appreciated how it subverted the “weaker female partner” trope at every turn. I am FINALLY getting a chance to listen to this. I had so eagerly awaited it and it did not disappoint. And that’s the (possibly) final episode of The Prisoner from @bigfinishprod! As is appropriate for The Prisoner, it ends the story of Number 6 (OR DOES IT?!?) but it doesn’t allow the listener to come away with all the answers. That might have been dissatisfying in a different series, but here, it feels completely appropriate. I’ll miss this series (if this is indeed the end) but I’d rather it come to a conclusion than go on past it’s natural life. I listened to this this morning: the penultimate episode of the series (possibly, so writer/director Nicholas Briggs keeps claiming.) it feels like we are starting to get some hints of answers; we’ll see what happens in the next episode. But I will probably wait until Sunday for that, which is my next work/normal exercise day. Today’s listen was a bit frustrating. Not because of the mind-bendy nature of the story, but because my stupid airpods kept disconnecting from my phone, disrupting the story. I finally made it through, and now we’ve reached the endgame! After my AirPod issues the other day, didn’t get to listen to this until this morning. Like the previous @bigfinishprod Prisoner stories, it’s a great updating of the original series, faithful to the existential twists and turns but with a modern spin. This episode takes on contemporary politics through the lens of an election in the Village. Unlike previous sets, I think all four episodes here make one big story, so this one ends on a cliffhanger.
