Pretty headcanon.
crow Philza x mermaid Missa.
Philza's bird brain vibrates with satisfaction because he is surrounded by shinies. bright and pretty. Perfect for him. one day he arrives at the cave where he hides in stormy weather, so happy to have a new loot of shiny things to add to his shinies in his nest.
until he sees him, the mermaid that accompanies Phil in the cave looks so melancholic, Missa misses the open sea very much but he cannot leave the aquatic caverns without the risk of being swept away by the violent ties.
That's why he's taking refuge there with the crow.
Phil doesn't like to see Missa sad, his smile is so pretty and Phil likes pretty things! He also feels weird in his chest seeing his involuntarily roommate so sad, and he decides that he doesn't like it .
So one day he returns from his searches and just fills Missa with a lot of pearls, pearls are very important in the culture of the mermaids, a sign of status about the lunar goddess or about the exchange with a human, it does not matter, the pearls are appreciated and valuable.
Missa only thinks they are pretty
but suddenly he is being bathed without prior notice in pearls of all possible sizes and colors that pearls may have, some are even impossible for him to grant but there they are
When he raises his head he can see the crow that has been accompanying him in his forced retirement, he has in his arms everything from gold to some trinkets that only seem to shine with the right light, and from where he is now Missa can almost believe that he is not a crow but an angel.
“for u’!… pwetty- pretty for pretty one!” He murmurs hardly among enthusiastic caws, crows are not made to talk, maybe imitate voices if they practice but Philza is not like parrots
Missa, after many hours of anguish, smiles again with the most dazzling smile he has ever seen and when he opens his mouth it is like a spell.
“Thank you, cuervo”
And Phil is sure he's never heard anything more beautiful in his life

Tales From Under The Wisteria Tree
Chapter Two - A Kind Stranger
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Missa didn’t want to wake up, he wanted to stay snuggled asleep with Chayanne. As he blinked into consciousness he realized that “Chayanne” was just his bag. He was all alone.
So he got up, ignored the growl of his stomach and started his trek through the woods.
He didn’t notice the crow soaring above him, he was too hungry. But when he finally got into the small town he instantly noticed the crow.
“Hello Cuervito!” The crow cawed. “Do you know where I can find any food around here?” Another caw. Missa reached into his bag and pulled out a small bag of sunflower seeds. He poured a few in his hand. “Do you want any?” The crow looked down upon the human. Missa smiled as the crow seemed to consider it. He flew down and ate the seeds. “Can I pet you little Cuervo?” Missa took his other hand and raised it a few inches from the crows head. Slowly Missa lowered his hand to the crow. Within seconds the crow was cooing, nuzzling into Missa’s hand. He let out a laugh, at least the wildlife here was friendly. “I better try to find a pub or something Cuervo, it was lovely to meet you though!” The crow flew away.
Missa searched, and searched. The town seemed abandoned. Just his luck, when suddenly he saw a person walking ahead on the path. “Hello!” The figure looked behind them. “Hello.” “I’m looking for a place to stay the night, maybe get some food; do you know anywhere?” “I do, I’m going there in fact. Would you like to go with me?” Just Missa’s luck! “I’d love to!”
The pair walked to the other end of the town, through a clearing Missa didn’t even see before. “That side of town is haunted, everyone moved over here when there were fae sightings.” The man sighed. “Everyone else thinks that stuff is just bogus though, created by the town elders to scare us. What about you?” “What about me? what?” “What do you think of the fae?” “Well I’m not going to just give out my name to any stranger I meet, that’s for sure.” “Finally, someone else knows their lore!” “I’d rather follow the rules then get my life taken by them.” “Cheers to that. Anyway Here’s the pub, let me buy you a drink!” Missa smiled. “Thanks!” The two stepped into the small pub.
“Two— what do you want mate?” “Do you guys have any coffee, I’m not much of a drinker.” The bartender nodded. “Two of those then!” The man Missa followed ushered him to a table in the corner.
“Thanks, sorry it’s not a typical drink.” “Nah, typical is overrated.” The man flashed Missa a smile. “Besides, I’m not in the mood to get drunk right now.” “Oh, why not? I mean— Sorry— I just assumed that since you were going to a pub—““It’s fine mate, typically I come here and just watch people, they do the funniest things while drunk. But also I don’t exactly want to drink right now because I’m spending my time with you, pretty boy.” Missa’s face flushed. “Huh?” The man took off his hood that was masking his face. Blonde hair fell to about his shoulders. “Fuck, ignore me typically the hair tie stays in.” He pulled his hair back into a small little ponytail. Missa stared at the man, he had gotten so used to just talking and he didn’t even bother to really take a good look at him.
He had blonde hair and greenish eyes. His ears were almost pointed, and a few stray hairs that weren’t pulled into the ponytail framed his face. “So what are you doing in this little town?” He said, pulling Missa out of almost a trance. “Oh— uh— I’m on a quest!” “Oh?” “Yeah I need to save my son.” “You have a son?” “Yep, his name is—“ “Shh— don’t speak that out loud, you never know who’s listening.” Shit. He was outside of the kingdom, Fae could be anywhere. He silently thanked the stars that he had such a nice person watching over him. “Right, anyway my son is six, I got in trouble with my king and he said I needed to complete an impossible quest in order to spare both me and my son’s life.” The man sighed. “That sounds like hell.” “I’ll do anything for him, even if that means giving that self righteous ass…” he paused, just stating you were trying to find immortality could be as dangerous as just yelling out for the Fae. “…What he wants.” “You’re brave.” “More like stupid, I knew I shouldn’t have stood up against the king! He’s the heart of the kingdom, of course people were going to betray me if he handed them gold.” “Then those people didn’t believe in the cause.” Missa smiled at the man. “Thank you.” “Two coffees.” The bartender said, placing down two small glasses of coffee. “Thanks mate.” He handed over a handful of coins.
“So where’s your quest taking you?” “Oh. Well, all over I guess. I’ve got a few places I need to check. And one place I really don’t want to check.” “Oh?” “I’ve got to go to the west and see if I can find some dragon scales, east for pixie dust, and south for the lyrics of a siren song.” “And if that doesn’t work?” “Then I have to meet up with the king of another realm.” The man's eyes widened. “Surely you don’t mean him–” “Yeah, I do. Better to be indebted to a magical being than to get my son killed.” Missa was trying to avoid mentioning Fae. They always seemed to pop up whenever you discussed them. “You really love him, huh?” “I promised him I’d be back. And I intend to do everything in my power to uphold that promise.” The man smiled. “I’d like to help you.” “Huh?” “You clearly don’t know your way around, not to be rude or anything. You need someone to make sure the Fae don’t get you. I’m bored, been looking for a reason to go on an adventure anyway. This seems like a good cause.” “I don’t know what to say, Thank you!” “Well in that case–” The man yawned. “Come back to my place tonight eh? You look like you could use a proper night of rest.” Missa sputtered “Like– like to–” “To sleep.” He clarified. “Good to know your type though.” The man winked as he stood up and gathered up Missa’s bag. Missa was sure his face was neon as the man pulled him away from the pub.
“My house is a little secluded in the woods. Don’t worry, nothing will hurt you here.” The man’s house was secluded. Surrounded by wildlife of all kinds, flora and fauna. You name it, it was probably growing in the man’s garden or nearby.
The man shut the door behind Missa. “Sorry I didn’t clean up before I left.” The man was referring to a table dedicated to horticulture. Soil and plants were strewn around. “That’s ok.” “Good. I’m glad. My spare room is over there.” He pointed to a door on the left side of a hallway. “End of the hall is the bathroom and across from your room is mine.” “Thank you…” “Philza.” The man said. “My name is Philza.” “Missa.” Philza smiled and a shock ran through Missa. What the hell was that? Philza was right, he must really be tired if now he’s imagining things.
“Well good night Philza.” “Good night Missa.” The words danced through Missa’s brain. The way Philza spoke his name like it was the most precious thing in the– Stop. Stop that. He was not falling for the first guy he met outside of the castle walls. He needed to save his son. Then he could think about feelings after that. He pulled a blanket onto him and tried to sleep.
CHARACTER POEM - TONGUE (originally in Spanish)
Sometimes I don't know what tongue flows through my veins What veins and what blood run through the paths of my body and feed the mind that conjures them What language, when spilled, tears form as they bubble from my eyes When what causes them is a splinter of the very wood of the trees that saw me grow How do they know who they are? How does a tear not believe itself part of the sea? How does a laugh not dream of the caw of a crow?
A cage of bone and flesh enclosing frustrated expectations And although I notice it, locked in my jaws between fangs that want to run through the fields in the jaws of wolves I don't know what tongue I write in And I don't know what tongue I dream in
-
A veces no sé qué lengua corre por mis venas Qué venas y qué sangre recorren los caminos de mi cuerpo y alimentan la propia mente que las conjura Qué idioma, al derramarse, borbotean las lágrimas de mis ojos Cuando lo que las causa es una astilla de la propia madera de los árboles que me vieron crecer ¿Cómo saben quién son? ¿Cómo no cree una lágrima ser una porción del mar? ¿Cómo una carcajada no sueña con un graznido de cuervo? Una jaula de hueso y carne encerrando expectativas frustradas Y aunque la noto, encerrada en mis fauces entre colmillos que quieren surcar los campos en boca de lobos No sé en qué lengua escribo Y no sé en qué lengua sueño
UN DÍA EN LOS CAMPOS
A tu paso chascaba la pinocha, se escurría el ratón, zurrían charas. Ya en el prado nada se movía. Pardo conejo se paró en la cepa: escuchaste un silencio. Crascitaron cuervos ahítos en la horca del rayo oyendo tu acerado silbo; uno a uno volaron cuando te arrastraste mudo.
Solo en manchones de pinos y arena, bajo el oro, de arándanos te hartaste; lució una estrella, luego otra; al salir del bosque el lubricán desembozaba nuevos astros; tras la tendida fosca de pasto y marga: lámparas de casa.
*
DAY IN THE FIELDS
You wandered where pine leaves crisped under foot And field mice scuttled, where the blue jay churred. Then in the pasture not a live thing stirred; The brown rabbit paused by the pine tree root: You listened to a silence. Crows with loot Cawed on the lightning's gibbet when they heard The flinty whir of your whistle; bird by bird They flew when you crept forward crouched and mute.
Alone in sandy pine plots underneath A golden sky you plucked blueberries until The first or second star; you had your fill And left the woods, and saw the dusk unsheath New stars and farmhouse lights, the lamps of home Over long level glooms of pasture loam.
Skyward Sword - comparing NPC names in English and Spanish
For this I’ll be comparing mainly 2 (technically 3) translations of SkSw: English (ENG), Spanish (Latinamerica) (ESP-LA) and Spanish (Spain) (ESP-SP). If available, I’ll add the Japanese (JP) too. The spanish ones might be the same in some cases, which will be marked as (ESP). (I might also add an extra translation or two if i know them)
Link (リンク - Rinku), Zelda (ゼルダ - Zeruda) and Impa (インパ - Inpa) stay the same in all translations. Some of them have some minor changes tho (beware of slight spoilers for SkSw)
(Special thanks to @sunnylaurels for sharing the Japanese names for the Skyloft NPCs! And to @attllhak for sharing some French ones! - Really Long post under cut)
Main/Important Characters
Fi (ENG) - Fay (ESP) - ファイ (Fai) (JP)
These are basically the same, just different spelling. There’s a lot of speculation as to what Fi’s name is based on. For some reason I like to think it’s because of “Wi-Fi” but anything goes
Ghirahim (ENG) - Grahim (ESP) -  ギラヒム (Girahimu) (JP)
This one’s interesting because both ‘translations’ are technically right. English follows it more “to the letter” doing “Gira” as “Ghira”, while Spanish interprets it as “Gra” since Japanese doesn’t do the two-different-consonants together thing, but overall both are the same
Groose (ENG) - Vilán (ESP-LA) - Malton (ESP-SP) -  バド (Bado) (JP)
Groose, Groose, Groose. Probably the main character with the MOST changes. “Bado” seems to be referencing the Japanese pronunciation of “bird”, but could also be interpreted as “Birdo”. LA Spanish’s “Vilán” is sometimes seen as referencing the english “Villain”, but recently @/deerdroo pointed out to me it’s most definitely referencing the “Gavilán” bird, which resembles a little eagle (Wikipedia calls it a “sparrowhawk” in English). Not sure what Spain’s doing with “Malton” but I like it. And of course “Groose” follows the bird naming theme most of Skyloft has (referencing grouse and goose). Also his name in French is “Hergo”
Demise (ENG) - El Heraldo de la Muerte (ESP) -  終焉の者 (Shūen no Mono) (JP)
Okay this guy. “終焉の者” could be translated as “The One Who Brings The End”, according to @/sunnylaurels. So, in a way, I guess it makes sense for the English translation to just grab “Demise” for the name but also I feel it REALLY takes away from how it’s a Title rather than a name? He’s an ancient being, him existing as a “concept” and having no name adds a lot to his character imo. Anyways, “El Heraldo de la Muerte” would translate as “The herald of death” or “the messenger of death”, which is like really ominous i think - imagine having to fight some guy and everyone on earth calls him the messenger of death. I’d be so scared. Yes I’m very aware Demise means Death i just think it’s silly he just gets called that and that’s it. Also i keep reading it as Denise so really, who’s losing here? Not me.
As a fun add-on to this, in German his name can be translated to “Death-bringer” (thanks @/aureateart), while in French it’s Avatar du Néant, which would translate to “Avatar of the Void” (thanks @/attllhak)
The Imprisoned (ENG) - El Cautivo (ESP-LA) - El Durmiente (ESP-SP)
“El Cautivo” basically means The Imprisoned, but “El Durmiente” means “The Sleeping One”, which... fits, but also i find it a bit funny, not sure why. Fight the sleepy avocado everyone
Deities + The Surface’s Main Places’ Names
The Goddesses stay the same in these translations too:
Din (ENG, ESP) - ディン (Din) (JP)
Nayru (ENG, ESP) - ネール (Nēru) (JP)
Farore (ENG, ESP) - フロル (Furoru) (JP)
Hylia (ENG, ESP) - ハイリア (Hairia) (JP)
The dragons, for the most part, too. The only one that really changes is Faron, which changes to “Farone” much like in Twilight Princess with the Light Spirit of the same name.
Eldin (ENG, ESP) - オルディン (Orudin) (JP)
Lanayru (ENG, ESP) - ラネール (Ranēru) (JP)
Faron (ENG) - Farone (ESP) -  フィローネ (Firōne) (JP)
Levias (ENG) - Narisha (ESP)
I couldn’t for the life of me find Levias’ name in Japanese, but considering EVERY translation EXCEPT English has him as Narisha? i’m gonna take a wild guess and say it’s ナリシャ (Narisha) or similar. His name Levias is based off the word Leviathan. And Fun fact! Did you know the spaniard Zelda Wiki lists him as being one of the dragons? as in, him being a whale-shaped dragon? yeah.
The Surface (ENG) - Las Tierras Inferiores (ESP)
Las Tierras Inferiores would translate as “The Lower Lands”
Faron Woods (ENG) - Bosque de Farone (ESP)
Eldin Volcano (ENG) - Volcán de Eldin (ESP)
Lanayru Dessert (ENG) - Desierto de Lanayru (ESP)
These ones mean the same for the most part, just with the change of Faron to Farone.
Skyloft / The Sky - Places and Animals
The Sky (ENG) - El Cielo (ESP-LA) - Celéstea (ESP-SP)
“El Cielo” literally means The Sky, while Celéstea would be a play on “Celestial” (From the Heavens/Skies). Fun side note - “El Cielo” also means “Heaven”, so when i was younger everytime i went back to the sky i’d be like “rip Link he’s dead :/”
Skyloft (ENG) - Neburia (ESP-LA) - Altárea (ESP-SP)
Neburia, from what I learned after a 4 am Wikipedia dive, could be based off the word “Nébula”, which can mean “Cloud”. It basically means “Cloud Town”. Altárea, I think??? would be based off the word “Alto” which means “High (Altitude)” so basically, “A Place High Up”? If anyone wants to comment on this i’d appreciate it
The Lumpy Pumpkin (ENG) - La Calabaza Flotante (ESP-LA) - Calabarza’s (ESP-SP)
“La Calabaza Flotante” literally means “The Floating Pumpkin”, while “Calabarza’s” is a really clever play on Calabaza and bar. I’m not sure what the name of the island itself is in english, but in Spanish it’s “Isla Calabaza” (Pumpkin Island) (ESP-LA) and “Calabia” (word play on “Pumpkin Place”) (ESP-SP)
Loftwing (ENG) - Neburí (ESP-LA) - Pelícaro (ESP-SP)
Neburí would also come from Nébula, so it’d translate to something like “Cloudy (thing)”? possibly. Pelícaro seems like a play on the word “Pelícano” which means Pelican.
Remlit (ENG) - Lémury (ESP) - Remuri (JP)
Lémury is a play on “Lémur”, probably because of Remlits’ ringed tails. Remuri might be the same play of words.
Skyloft/The Sky - NPCs
(I might revisit some of these at one point since some of the references they could have flew over my head!) (haha get it? flew? the sky? ok)
Batreaux (ENG) - Mursego (ESP-LA) - Batolo (ESP-SP) - Morusego (JP)
My friend! my buddy! Batreaux is an obvious play with “Bat”, since he kind of resembles one. This is kept in both Spanish names - Batolo seems like a combination of “Bat” and “Bartolo” (a spanish name), and Mursego is based off the spanish for Bat “Murciélago” (as well as being the closest to the Japanese “Morusego”!!). Keeps the “flying animal” theme in all three languages.
Beedle (ENG) - Terry (ESP) - テリー (Terī) (JP)
The man, the myth, the legend. Beedle’s name is similar to “beetle”, the insects he loves in BoTW and SS. Not sure what the deal with “Terry” and similar is. He keeps the “flying animal name” theme with Beedle, sort of, but loses it in every other translation (which, btw, is also Terry or a variant in most languages)
Bertie (ENG) - Arín (ESP-LA) - Alfred (ESP-SP) - Arin (JP)
This poor man. Working all day and all night. Bertie’s supposed to reference a type of sparrot called “lovebird” (the bird part). For Arín, besides being basically the same as Japanese, could reference the word “Cantarín”, which means “singsong” and is used to describe birds that sing a lot. Alfred... no clue.
Cawlin (ENG) - Corvy (ESP) - Ras (JP)
In the same way “Cawlin” references “caw”, which is the sound crows make, “Corvy” references this same bird, called “Cuervo” in Spanish. In french he’s “Orbo”, which if i had to guess also references crows.
Croo (ENG) - Gurriaco (ESP)
“Croo” could reference both the “cooing” of birds and “crow”, like Cawlin above. Gurriaco, if I reach enough, could be referencing “Urraca”, a type of bird in Spanish.
Dodoh (ENG) - Dodo (ESP) - Dodo (JP)
Referencing the extinct bird of the same name in all languages, I guess.
Dovos (ENG) - Dombo (ESP)
Dovos feels like it’s referencing “Dove”. Dombo gives be “Dumbo” vibes - probably could reference it because he flies? not sure
Eagus (ENG) - Aquilo (ESP) - Igurusu (JP)
Eagus, Aquilo, and Igurusu are referencing Eagles. It’s more obvious in Eagus. The spanish for Eagle is “Águila”, which is just two letters off from Aquilo.
Fledge (ENG) - Gruyo (ESP) - Sebasun (JP)
Fledge is referencing Fledgling, a young bird. Gruyo comes from “Gruya”, which is Crane in spanish. In french his name’s “Célestin”.
Gaepora (ENG, ESP-LA) - Gaépora (ESP-SP) - ゲポラ (Gepora) (JP)
Pretty much the same. His name is also a combination of the Owl from Ocarina of Time’s name “Kaepora Gaebora” (ENG, ESP) - ケポラ・ゲボラ (Kepora Gebora), probably because he looks a lot like the Sage of Light Rauru and the owl he turns into. One of the few Skyloftians not named after a bird in English, though technically he is if we consider the above?
Gondo (ENG, ESP-LA) - Dorcon (ESP-SP) - Doruko (JP)
Not sure what Gondo might be referencing bird-wise exactly? though i think “Gondo” is similar to “Gonzo” (from Wind Waker), with who I think shares some design aspects. Dorcon in Spain’s Spanish seems to just take from the original Japanese. In French his name’s also “Dorco”!
Goselle (ENG) - Alani (ESP) - Otaka (JP)
I’ll be real, not sure what’s going on with her names in either language. Goselle gives me bird vibes but i’m not sure. Alani reminds me of the spanish “Alaja”, which means Jewel
Greba (ENG) - Ornella (ESP) - Miho (JP)
Ornella reminds me of the word “Hornilla” (mute H), which is basically the hole where the heat comes out of in wooden ovens... but! according to the dictionary it also means “(a) hole where pigeons make their nest” so i guess it’s bird related too!
Gully (ENG) - Gabio (ESP-LA) - Gabi (ESP-SP) - Garu (JP)
Gully most definitely references a seagull. Gabio and Gabi references the same animal, but in spanish obviously - “Gaviota”.
Henya (ENG) - Galina (ESP-LA) - Zenona (ESP-SP) - Heena (JP)
Henya references Hens, as does Galina (Hen being “Gallina” in Spanish). Zenona... uh.. not sure where that came from? I’m halfway through this post realizing i’d gladly accept comments from any spanish speaking person who wants to give an input on these things im missing
Horwell (ENG) - Asteus (ESP) - Hoonelu (JP)
i’ll be real im not sure what Asteus is referencing. Horwell seems to be pretty close to the japanese for the most part though
Jakamar (ENG) - Carpín (ESP) - Geran (JP)
Carpín is most definitely referencing Wood Peckers (“Pájaro Carpintero”/Carpenter Birds)
Karane (ENG) - Grusi (ESP-LA) - Gracielle (ESP-SP) - Kuranu (JP)
Karane seems to be almost the same as in Japanese, while Spanish went crazy and gave her a completely different name, tho at least they’re kinda similar between each other. Also in french her name’s “Grida” (another Gr name!!)
Keet (ENG) - Pío (ESP-LA) - Pitxi (ESP-SP) - Michiru (JP)
Pío is, quite literally, the sound birds make (or the way we’d write that sound in spanish), especially chicks. Pitxi is a mystery to me
Kina (ENG) - Calabel (ESP-LA) - Calabelle (ESP-SP) - Panan (JP)
Calabel/Calabelle is referencing the spanish for Pumpkin, “Calabaza”, giving it a more feminine name-esque ending (like in Anabel/Anabelle)
Kukiel (ENG) - Picalia (ESP-LA) - Cuqui (ESP-SP) - Kuuko (JP)
Cuqui could be referencing that exact same word (often spelled “Kuki”) that just means “cute”. Picalia seems like a play with “pícara” which basically means “gremlin” (google translates it as “sassy” but im not sure if that word fits)
Luv (ENG) - Mandi (ESP-LA) - Amanda (ESP-SP) - Manda (JP)
Mandi and Amanda seem to stay close to the Japanese name, both of them being common spanish names. Luv, like i mentioned in Bertie’s part, would reference “love bird” (the love part)
Mallara (ENG) - Pati (ESP-LA) - Patty (ESP-SP) - Rubia (JP)
I only now realized Mallara is referencing mallard ducks. wow. Pati/Patty are just a common name in Spanish. Lil fun fact related to her Japanese name! Rubia means “blonde” in Spanish
Mia (ENG, ESP-LA) - Miwi (ESP-SP) - Mi (JP)
mia my baby girl. i love her. im yeeting her off Skyloft. seems they all reference meowing in some way
Orielle (ENG) - Corina (ESP) - Kuina (JP)
LISTEN. the other day i was trying to think just WHAT Corina could be referencing. And the only thing that popped into my brain is that “Corina” is the name they gave the bird Tokyo Mew Mew girl in LatinAmerica. It’s literally the only bird related thing i can think of. Also it sounds a bit like “Kuina”. French name is “Kinaé”, similar to Japanese!
Owlan (ENG) - Buhel (ESP) - Aoulu (JP)
Owlan seems to keep the owl theme across all three! Aoulu seems to just be “owl” quite literally, and Buhel is a play on the spanish for Owl (”Búho”)
Parrow (ENG) - Golondro (ESP) - Parou (JP)
Golondro comes from “Golondrina”, a type of bird! I think it’s called “swallow” in english ... so it kinda fits Parrow anyways! Also Parrow seems to be his japanese name too
Peater (ENG) - Panolo (ESP-LA) - Paul (ESP-SP) - Jakusin (JP)
This guy. man. Seems to be “Jackson” in Japanese? But everyone grabbed a P and ran. Panolo seems like a play on “Manolo”, a nickname for people with the name “Manuel” - maybe mixed with the P for “Pájaro”(Bird)? Paul’s just a common name as far as i know.
Peatrice (ENG) - Panalí (ESP-LA) - Paula (ESP-SP) - Jakuriinu (JP)
Peatrice seems to always be named after her dad. “Jackeline” in Japanese i believe, and barely “feminized” names for the rest. Panalí sounds a bit more like “panal”, the spanish for “hive” (as in beehive)
Piper (ENG) - Joana (ESP)
There’s not much to comment here. Joana’s a common name in Spanish
Pumm (ENG) - Vito (ESP-LA) - Ruperto (ESP-SP) - Puukin (JP)
I have NO clue where Vito came from. It sounds like a badly spelled “Victor”. Where did the Pumpkin theme go???? huh?????. Ruperto’s kind of the same? Unless i’m missing some pumpkin related words in spanish, it’s just a common name.
Pipit (ENG) - Cocu (ESP-LA) - Coocker (ESP-SP) - Kikoa (JP)
This guy. It seems a lot of languages kept the C/K sounds in his name? He’s Kiko in French and Cuco in german (thanks @/aureateart). They seem to reference cuckoo clocks maybe? and the german’s really close to cucco.
Rupin (ENG) - Rupín (ESP-LA) - Milo (ESP-SP) - Kookin (JP)
Rupin/Rupin are referencing Rupees, since he’s the shopkeeper and the alike. Milo... I... I’m not sure what’s referencing?
Rusta (ENG) - Ganzo (ESP) - Rostaa (JP)
Rusta and Rostaa seem to be referencing Roosters, while Ganzo’s referencing the spanish for Goose! (Ganso)
Scrapper (ENG) - Serbot (ESP) - Sarubo (JP)
Including this lil guy here coz... why not? Serbot seems to be almost the same if not the exact name as Japanese (though Sarubo could just be Server?)
Sparrot (ENG) - Aspir (ESP-LA) - Gorronte (ESP-SP) - Subuha (JP)
Gorronte seems to be a play on “Gorrión” (Sparrow), so, pretty close to English. Aspir..... I’m not sure?
Strich (ENG) - Vestro (ESP) - Osta (JP)
Vestro, like Stritch, references Ostriches, with Ostrich in spanish being “Avestruz”. Seems Japanese references the same animal? and I think french too, since he’s “Latruche” in that language!
Wryna (ENG) - Elenia (ESP-LA) - Alisia (ESP-SP) - Arisu (JP)
Alisia seems to stick to the Japanese name Arisu (Alice), while Elenia went... a different direction. Elenia is a variation of a common spanish name, Elena.
Note
Have you done Spanish animals and their noises yet? I know it's silly but seeing how other languages pronounce things is cute!
So I don’t know all of them, but many of the animal sounds are what we’d call las onomatopeyas or “onomatopoeia” which is a sound effect given word form, and a lot of them are similar to English
el perro, la perra = dog ladrar = to bark el ladrido = barking noise guau = the sound of a dog barking [guau guau is like “bowwow”; also guau is “wow” as an exclamation so you know, weirdness there]
el gato, la gata = cat maullar = to meow el maullido = meowing sound miau / ñau = the sound of a cat meowing ronronear = to purr el ronroneo = purring
la vaca = cow / el toro = bull mugir = to moo [or in older texts “to low”] el mugido = mooing sound mu / muu = moo
el pájaro = bird piar = to chirp el pío = bird chirping, birdsong, tweeting pío, pío pío = sound of bird chirping
la gallina = hen el cloqueo = clucking cloquear = to cluck cloc cloc = sound of chicken or bird clucking
el gallo = rooster cacarear = to crow, to cluck el cacareo = crowing (of a rooster or chicken), clucking (el) quiquiriquí / kikirikí = cock-a-doodle-doo
el pato, la pata = duck el cuervo = crow, raven / la corneja = raven el ganso, la gansa / la oca = goose graznar = to quack / to honk / to caw el graznido = quacking / honking (geese) / cawing
el pavo = turkey gluglutear = to gobble (turkey sound) gluglú = gobble gobble [gluglutear is also the sound used for dripping or running water, it’s like “gurgling” or “babbling brook”, that sort of thing]
el cuco = cuckoo el cucú = cuckoo noise, general softer bird noise / sound of a cuckoo clock [also el cucú is “peekaboo” like jugar al cucú “to play peekaboo” probably because of cuckoo clocks]
el búho = owl / la lechuza = owl ulular = to hoot el ululato = hooting huu huu = sound of an owl
la abeja = bee | la avispa = wasp | la mosca = a fly zumbar = to buzz el zumbido = buzzing noise, humming noise [also used for machinery like “droning”] zum / zummmm = the sound of buzzing
el grillo = cricket chirriar = to chirp / for insects to make noise el chirrido = chirping, sounds of insects cricrí = chirp chirp [sound a cricket or cicada makes]
el asno / el burro = donkey rebuznar = to bray, to make a donkey noise el rebuzno = braying, heehaw
la serpiente = snake el lagarto = lizard / la lagartija = lizard / smaller lizard sisear = to hiss el siseo = hissing noise [I think hissing is pretty universally sssss]
la rana = frog / el sapo = toad croar = to croak, to ribbit croac-croac = sound of frogs, ribbit ribbit
el león, la leona = lion, lioness el tigre, la tigresa = tiger (and tigress which is less common) el oso, la osa = bear rugir = to roar el rugido = a roar gruñir = to growl el gruñido = growling noise [the onomatopoeia is pretty much just rrrr or grrr]
el lobo, la loba = wolf aullar = to howl el aullido = howling noise [wolf noises are predictably things like auuuu]
la ballena = whale cantar = to sing [el canto de ballena is “whale's song”] resoplar = to breathe out, to exhale / to huff and puff [resoplar is the verb used when whales resurface and shoot water out of their blowholes before taking another breath]
el elefante, la elefanta = elephant barritar = to trumpet (elephants) [otherwise barritar is “to bellow”] el barrito = trumpeting noise (elephant) [I’ve seen it written as bruuu for their noise or something to that effect]
el caballo = horse / la yegua = mare relinchar = to neigh el relincho = neighing sound [I think the sound is often written like hiiii or something to that effect]
Another common one is chillar which is used as “to shriek”, and it can be used with people or animals; chillar can be used for animals yelling or screeching, or it could be for pigs [los cerdos] and “squealing”... el chillido is the noun form
And for pigs gruñir is the general verb for “oinking” but they do say oink oink as the onomatopoeia I believe
There are lots I don’t know, but at least as far as sound effects you can usually understand what they’re going for when you see it or hear it in context
Capítulo 9: Cuervos
12 de marzo de 1919.
Tema: Cuervos y su comportamiento.
Análisis total: En proceso. . .
“Bien” - Siempre he dicho que los cuervos son una especie de rareza, como un mal presagio. Una vez en nuestra primera casa en Massachusetts, siempre había un cuervo que se recostaba en la rama del árbol a lado de la casa, hasta que vimos su verdadera naturaleza. Quiso salir de la luz, el mundo siempre tendrá sus giros, unos que beneficien a otros pero a otros solo les causará una desgracia, así que
Desde ese día nunca quise contarle mis penas a ellos, pueden hacerte sufrir lo que quieras pero ellos solos te lo demostrarán. Se supone que está es la temporada en la que más se ven a menudo, junto con un cuaderno, pluma y cámara, salimos de la estación para ir a una parte ubicada en el bosque, donde se supone que ahí hacen apariciones a menudo. Mientras caminamos hay un silencio un tanto incómodo pero satisfactorio a la vez,
“¿Crees que en el futuro algo se salga de control?” Digo, mirando hacia mi hombro. “Adelle, escúchame” lo miro fijamente a los ojos. “Ahorita por lo único en lo que tienes que enfocarte es en tu camino, tanto para mí como para la familia que formaremos en los próximos meses, no es posible predecir si nos irá mal o todo marche bien pero una cosa que te puedo decir es que, siempre estaré aquí para darte mis mejores consejos.” Eso lo dijo, tan, tan sinceramente de su parte, hizo ver qué no importa en qué condiciones estemos en ese entonces, siempre estará de mi lado, no importa que. El sonríe y me abraza, poniendo su cabeza en mi hombro. Hago lo mismo.
“Vamos, tenemos que ir por esos cuervos, creo que te encantará la tarea que tienes que hacer” Sonrío y volvemos a ponernos en marcha hacia el punto de destino. Llegamos y ahí está, una mesa abandonada por años que ahora ser a de uso necesario." Se escuchan a varios cuervos de cerca, está es la oportunidad que necesitamos, lentamente me voy acercando y atrapo uno, el resto se va en parvada. ““Te tengo-” mantengo al cuervo en mis manos para que no se escape. “¡Roger!” grito y viene con una jaula para poner al cuervo. “Ahí esta”. Suspiro y pongo una mano en mi cabeza quitándome el poco sudor que hice con la pelea del cuervo. ¡Caw Caw!
“Uf, eso fue rápido como me lo esperaba” Si querida, a trabajar se ha dicho. Empezamos a anotar sus medidas, apariencia. “Como suponía, son cuervos americanos”. Plumas suaves en la garganta, su cola en forma de abanico y hacen “caw, caw” a diferencia de uno común que son más grandes,tienen plumas sumamente finas en la zona de la garganta, se distinguen por hacer “crroaak” y las puntas de su cola son más afiladas. “ hmhm” Ambos cuervos nos miran, de seguro quieren ya irse. “Tendremos que esperar a que una tormenta llegue, pero los tendremos bajo observación.” Vamos de camino a la estación para poder hacer a mano limpia las anotaciones, manos a la obra. El viento que se respira aquí es bonanciable, cosa que hace el perfecto complemento aquí. “Crrooaak” chirría el cuervo, picotea donde está la cerradura. ¿Tienes hambre o quieres salir a respirar aire? Irónicamente digo, asiente por donde está la puerta, “bien,bien” salgo con una libreta y plumo pongo la jaula a lado mío. El solo empieza a hacer sus ruidos hacia una parte. “¿Semillas? Ofrezco con mi mano, las lanzo para que pueda comerlas en su lugar, el empieza a picotearlas.
Una pequeña sonrisa sale de mi boca.“ Los cuervos normales suelen ser los más agresivos a comparación de su otra especie pero si los tratas gentilmente y no sientes temor, te irá mejor con ellos. Si tienes miedo e inseguridad en ti o solo los ves como una amenaza, recuerda que ellos pueden oler tu miedo y terminarán sacándote tus ojos de una sentada.”
“Un cuervo americano es común de ver por el mundo, suelen siempre aparecer en las calles o en un bosque o tan solo serán un mal augurio que pueda ocurrir, recordarán tu rostro para siempre, no importa que acciones hayas hecho pero los cuervos te llevarán una consecuencia de regalo, su comportamiento es muy sociable por lo cual no te hará ningún problema a menos de que lo provoques”
Tema: Los cuervos y su comportamiento
Hay dos tipos de cuervo: El normal y el americano, ambos son de comportamiento social y son aves bastantemente inteligentes, incluso pueden recordar tu cara y nombre, si no sientes miedo y actúas con confianza, ellos no te atacarán o sospecharan de ti. Suelen aparecer en la cuidad y en los bosques, si se te aparece uno, puede ser un mal augurio o uno bueno.
Cuervo común: Tiene en la zona de la garganta plumas finas y largas mientras que su cola tiene unos pequeños filos.
Cuervo Americano: Pelaje suave en su garganta y su cola es como un abanico.
Porcentaje: 89%
“¿¡Hombres cuervo?!” Dijo. “Perfecto, ahora irán por nosotros, que más se puede pedir!” Lisa estaba aterrada de su madre, nunca la había escuchado de esa manera, al menos cuando ella era más joven. Ted no sabía que decir, solo quería quedarse callado, dentro del el estaba estresado, enojado. “Lo lamento niños, tendré que salir de casa, Theodore, cuida de Lisa!! Azotó la puerta de la entrada, dejando a los pobres niños solos.
“Ven aquí” Alzó sus brazos y Lisa se lanzó hacia el, necesitaba un abrazo. “Tranquila, estaré aquí para protegerte, Papá llegará pronto, eso espero.”
Chapter 9: Crows and Ravens
March 12, 1919.
Theme: Ravens and their behavior.
Total analysis: In process. . .
"Good" - I've always said that ravens are a kind of rarity, like a bad omen. Once in our first house in Massachusetts, there was always a raven that perched on the branch of the tree next to the house, until we saw its true nature. He wanted to get out of the light, the world will always have its turns, some that benefit others but others will only cause misfortune, so
Since that day I never wanted to tell my sorrows to them, they can make you suffer whatever you want but they alone will show it to you. This is supposed to be the season when they are most often seen, together with a notebook, pen and camera, we leave the station to go to a part located in the forest, where they are supposed to make appearances often. As we walk there is a somewhat uncomfortable but satisfying silence,
"Do you think that in the future something will get out of control?" I say, looking over my shoulder. "Adelle, listen to me" I look him straight in the eyes. “Right now the only thing you have to focus on is your path, both for me and for the family that we will form in the coming months, it is not possible to predict if things will go wrong or everything will go well, but one thing I can tell you is that, I will always be here to give you my best advice.” He said that, so, so sincerely on his part, he made it clear that no matter what conditions we are in back then, he will always be on my side, no matter what. He smiles and hugs me, laying his head on my shoulder. I do the same.
"Come on, we have to go get those ravens, I think you'll love the task you have to do" I smile and we set off again towards the destination point. We arrived and there it is, a table abandoned for years that now will be of necessary use." Several crows are heard nearby, this is the opportunity we need, I slowly approach and catch one, the rest leave in a flock. " "I got you-" I hold the raven in my hands so it doesn't get away. I yell and he comes with a cage to put the crow in. “There it is.” I sigh and put a hand on my head wiping away the little sweat I did from the crow fight.Caw caw!
"Uf, that was fast as I expected" Yes dear, to work it has been said. We began to write down the measurements, appearance of him. "As I assumed, they are American crows." Soft feathers in the throat, its fan-shaped tail and they make "caw, caw" unlike a common one that are larger, they have extremely fine feathers in the throat area, they are distinguished by making "crroaak" and the tips of its tail are sharper. “hmhm” Both crows look at us, surely they want to leave now. "We'll have to wait for a storm to arrive, but we'll keep an eye on them." We are on our way to the station to be able to do the annotations by hand, let's get to work. The wind that is breathed here is favorable, which makes it the perfect complement here. "Crrooaak" chirps the crow, pecks where the lock is. Are you hungry or do you want to go out for a breath of air? Ironically I say, he nods where the door is, “well, well” I go out with a notebook and pen I put the cage next to me. He only starts making his noises towards one part. "Seeds? I offer with my hand, I throw them so he can eat them instead, he starts to peck them.
A small smile comes out of my mouth.“ Normal crows are usually the most aggressive compared to their other species but if you treat them gently and don't feel fear, you will do better with them. If you have fear and insecurity in you or only see them as a threat, remember that they can smell your fear and will end up gouging out your eyes in one sitting.
“An American crow is common to see around the world, they usually always appear in the streets or in a forest or they will only be a bad omen that may occur, they will remember your face forever, no matter what actions you have done but the crows will take you a gift consequence, his behavior is very sociable so he will not make you any problem unless you provoke him”
Theme: Ravens and their behavior
There are two types of crow: The normal and the American, both are social behavior and are quite intelligent birds, they can even remember your face and name, if you do not feel afraid and act with confidence, they will not attack or suspect you. They usually appear in the city and in the forests, if one appears to you, it can be a bad omen or a good one.
Common Raven: It has fine and long feathers in the throat area while its tail has small edges.
American Crow: Soft fur on its throat and its tail is like a fan.
Percentage of total analysis: 89%
“Raven men?!” He said. "Perfect, now they will come for us, what more could you ask for!" Lisa was terrified of her mother, she had never heard her like that, at least when she was younger. Ted didn't know what to say, he just wanted to keep quiet, inside of him he was stressed, angry. “I'm sorry kids, I'll have to leave the house, Theodore, take care of Lisa!! She slammed the front door, leaving the poor children alone.
“Come here” he raised his arms and Lisa threw herself at him, she needed a hug. "Don't worry, I'll be here to protect you, Dad will be here soon, I hope so."
Capitulo 129 THEDCV
Tatiana extendió la mano para tocar el hilo que flotaba en su vista. El hilo, que parecía más fino que el hilo de seda, le hizo cosquillas en las yemas de los dedos arrugadas mientras colgaba sin fuerzas en el aire. Trató de tirar de él para ver, pero el hilo no se rompió, sino que se estiró como un elástico. Tatiana entrecerró los ojos. ¡Caw, Caw! Mientras tanto, los cuervos se movían…
