Wednesday 1/25/23 6pm ET: Feature LP: Guides By Voices - La La Land (2023)
LA LA LAND Review by Fred Thomas CTSY AllMusic, Released January 20, 2023 Not many rock bands are still exploring new ideas after their 30th album, but Guided by Voices are not like many other bands. Though the lineup of GbV present on 2022’s prog rock-meets-power pop outing Tremblers and Goggles by Rank had only been together since 2017, the album was their 13th release in that short time, with…

Coming to Save You, Part VIII
TW for use of the 6-letter slur that starts with f.
Seeing the stone lions at the downtown Manhattan public library makes Peter’s heart jump a little. He mounts the great stone steps, feeling just like he did when he was eight and came here because there was a book here on technology that he couldn’t find in his neighborhood library. It’s nice to feel it again. His eyes are wide as he takes in the big doors and enters through them, scanning the room immediately for threats. Nothing dangerous. Just some of the old Protectron assistants. Everyone else is dead. He steps forward and heads for the nearest terminal to start searching. Meanwhile, Wade is having his own library experience.
Wade walks among the books, scanning the titles, remembering the last time he set foot in a library. He remembers it clearly, because he swore that day to never go into a library or borrow a book again. He’d picked something out that looked interesting to him. Something about African rainforest birds. He’d been very curious as a child and liked learning things like that. When he got home, his father had found the book and slapped him for it. He said he wasn’t going to let his boy grow up to be some kind of brainiac… Wade winced as he remembers the slur his father had used for him. He doesn’t want to, but he thinks about it, and it comes out anyway, because his brain has been a mess ever since The Thing.
“Faggot, faggot, faggot,” he says to himself, browsing the titles, without thinking about it. He stops in his tracks and shakes his head. “No. Stop. Not faggot. Well, okay, yes faggot. But that’s okay. There is nothing wrong with me. Oh shut up. You always knew he wouldn’t approve. Since when was Dad wrong about anything?” He takes another step, huffing. “He was wrong about a lot of things, okay? He was right about army shit and that’s it. That’s all he was good at.” Relaxing his shoulders, he wills himself to believe. “Okay, fine. But you’re still a-- fuck off, I get it, stop already.” But the word still rings in his mind, no matter how hard he tries to stop thinking about it. Then he loses his patience. “Faggot, faggot, FUCKING FAGGOT!” He shouts into the silent room, hoping that thinking it loud enough will clear it from his head. Then there’s silence. And then Peter’s voice.
“Wade? You okay back there?”
“Wh-what? Oh! Yes. I’m fine. Everything’s fine. You found anything yet?”
“No, the archives aren’t accessible from here. I have to go lower into the basement, probably. I’ll be back. Uh, if anyone tries to get in, get rid of them, please?”
“I’m on it!” He can feel his cheeks reddening. He really likes Peter. He has absolutely the most ridiculous crush on him, has for a long time now. Over two centuries in the making. He jokes with himself for a moment that he should’ve recognized Peter’s ass right away when he came out of the vault. He’s stared at it enough, God knows. Unfortunately, Peter’s straight. Very straight. Always has been. So Wade has to suck it up and see if he can date someone else. He misses Vanessa a lot. He wishes he could visit her grave but there probably isn’t one. Just a skeleton lying somewhere, or if she was lucky, nothing. Just vaporized in an instant.
Wade shakes his head, then looks up at the books, desperate for anything that might distract him. He reads the title of a book. He’s somehow wandered into the biology section. With a snort he wonders if that book on animals might be here somewhere. He looks around, but this isn’t children’s nonfiction-- this is some kind of bioengineering section. Peter would love this. Textbooks, journals, reports… he grabs a random journal and flips it open, then chuckles when he sees Spider-Man mentioned in the title of one of the articles. He opens to it. Spider-Man’s Senses: Precognitive Warning Effects in the Brains of Animal-Morphized Humans, the title declares, with a little graph underneath. He scans the abstract, now wondering if there might be something here Peter would want to know.
Experiment used trials of twenty animal-morphized humans with a control group of ten, and a variety of animal types: Spider, bat, iguana, lion, eagle, frog, and salmon. Chart above shows species distribution of hybrids along with their alert time before the advent of either a dangerous event or one that is desired strongly by the subject. Bat-morphized humans were found to have the greatest ability to detect such events before their occurrence: brains show marked increase in nervous system activity 3.20 seconds before the conscious brain perceived them. Spider-morphized humans came second with 2.35 seconds, frog-morphized third with 2.12 seconds, iguana-morphized fourth with 1.96 seconds, eagle-morphized fifth with 1.88 seconds, salmon-morphized sixth with 1.75 seconds, and lion-morphized last with 1.55 seconds. One note is important to make: If the desired event is the one which is taking place, it is always present in cases where the subject is repressing their desire for the event strongly. Subjects who did not repress their desire for the event did not show any animal-morphized response, as indicated by follow-up therapy sessions.
Wade blinks at this, and then immediately closes it and walks back toward the basement stairs to keep watch. About three minutes later Peter comes back upstairs, carrying a few books under his arms, and Wade holds the journal out to him.
“I found this over in bioengineering. Some kind of brain journal. They have something about animal-morphized-- I mean, people like you. Spider people and bat people and others. Thought you might want to check it out.
“Sure, yeah,” Peter replies, taking it from him and sliding it under his arm. “The more you know, right? Ready to head back?”
“Yeah. Let’s get going.” He smiles, hoping that he’s found something helpful for him. Peter smiles right back at him.
Back at the park, Peter sets all of the books down to start reading, but the first one that catches his eye is the journal. He’s curious. He wants to know what’s in there. He reads the abstract, frowning. A desired event, the desire for which is repressed strongly? He can’t remember ever having his spider-senses go off right before a desired… oh. That moment. With Wade. His brow furrows. What kind of event had he been hoping for with Wade? Well, he supposes that if he’s repressed the desire, it must be something he would find uncomfortable, or even upsetting. He’d been hoping for… for Wade to look at him. That can’t be right. But he knows it is, he can feel it. He’d wanted Wade to look at him, to pay attention to him, to be the center of Wade’s world for a moment. Why? He knows why. But like the article said, he doesn’t want to admit it. He’s always thought of himself as completely straight.
But he’s attracted to Wade Wilson.

Sri Bhagendewswara Temple It is a common practice for pilgrims to take a dip in the triveni sangama and perform rituals to their ancestors before proceeding to Talakaveri, the birthplace of Kaveri. A temple of Lord Supremo Shiva in the name of Bhagandeshwara embellishes the place. It is the local belief that Kaveri, revered as Dakshina Ganga, comes out of the matted hair locks of Shiva here. During Tula Sankramana which falls on 17 or 18 October, pilgrims assemble here in large numbers. During 1785–1790, the area was occupied by Tipu Sultan. The temple was burnt and destroyed. He renamed Bhagamandala to Afesalabad. In 1790 King Dodda Vira Rajendra took Bhagamandala back into an independent Kodagu kingdom. Bhagamandala is located about 33 km from the district headquarters Madikeri and is connected by paved roads from Madikeri, Virajpet and nearby places in Karnataka and Kerala. A beautiful well maintained temple with prathista of Subramanya ( Bhagendeshwara ) and Ganapathi Ctsy wiki A must visit place #coorg #kodagu #karnataka #hindutemple #hindutemples #hindutemple🙏 #southindiantemple #southindiantemples #southindiantemples⛪🍃 (at Karnataka) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS6s6VlF5Wp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Tuesday 1/24/32 10pm ET: Feature LP: Bad Ends - The Power and The Glory (2023)
Review Ctsy AllMusic by Stephen Thomas ErlewineRelease January 20, 2023 Calling the Bad Ends a “supergroup” could conceivably be a stretch as there’s only one genuine rock star in the band. That would be Bill Berry, who gained fame as a drummer and songwriter for R.E.M., the biggest band to ever come out of Athens, Georgia. Five Eight, a group led by guitarist/vocalist Mike Mantione, followed in…

Coming to Save You, Part VII
One week later, Wade drops the last tire into place on the junk fence they had been constructing. The front is solid steel and concrete backed by junk that provides a place to fire from in case of an attack. He’d had to spend some time convincing Peter to let him put actual machine gun turrets up on the walls, but that had mostly been a matter of pointing out that Peter could just program them not to harm humans. After all, yao guai and deathclaws are still a problem, and perfectly edible, too. Carrots and tatos can’t be the only things the community eats.
Beyond that, it was a matter of routine. The Great Hall and Medieval Art gallery of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was repurposed into the front entrance to the settlement, with the walls spreading from either side of the building; there were other entrances, but this one became the Grand Entrance, the one through which new immigrants typically entered. Peter moved into what was once the Modern and Contemporary Art gallery, far away from the hustle of the guard posts and registration booths, but could still be seen sometimes, fixing water pumps and maintaining turrets.
Now that word had spread of their settlement, he didn’t have to go out and recruit; instead, he found that the fame of the settlement caused raiders to come from near and far trying to take a crack at the relative riches that lay inside its walls.
Wade looks up as he hears the now-familiar footsteps behind him. Turning, he beams at Peter, gesturing at the wall behind him. “That oughta hold ‘em out for some time. You look like you wanna go do a patrol.”
“Yeah. I don’t like how quiet it’s been the last few days. Not even a super mutant attack. I want to make sure our borders are together and see who’s moved in.”
“Alright. Lemme grab a shotgun or two and I’ll meet you at the east gate.” Wade turns away from the wall and heads back to the Tavern, almost skipping a little. More time he gets to spend with Peter.
Peter for his part watches him bounce-walk away with a little quirking feeling in the bottom of his stomach. He’s not sure what the feeling is. It’s definitely different than how he felt about Wade when he first came off the ice. He’s… proud of him, he thinks, after a moment, proud of how much Wade has accomplished, and not just with the walls and the settlement organization. He seems happier in general, far more than when Peter met him the first time two hundred years ago.
At the east gate Peter sits until Wade shows, wearing his ranger hat and carrying the backpack he uses for his guns, ammo, and snacks when they go on patrol. Snacks are very important to Wade, Peter has found, so he usually remembers to bring along a stick with some meat on it or two. He eats a lot of meat on sticks these days. Peter stands and turns to the gate and they take off down the street that leads to the upper side. The street is littered with the usual trash and corpses of raiders who tried their luck with the best-protected settlement around. Peter stands over one, sighing, and Wade walks up to right behind him.
Suddenly Peter is very aware of how close Wade is behind him; he can feel the heat coming off of him in waves, and when he looks down at himself he finds his hairs have raised. Could it be his spidey sense? It definitely feels like it, but there isn’t a tone of danger to it-- instead he feels like he’s just swallowed a big bowl of warm, delicious soup. Just in case, he looks around. He sees no rebar clubs coming at his face, no land mines he’s about to step onto. Just Wade, walking and chattering behind him. Focus, Peter.
“--Not like we can ever get the real New York hot dog experience again, but between the brahmin and the new mustard variant I hear they’re developing down south, I think we have a shot at making a kind of hot dog for the poor kids who never got to have one.”
Peter can’t help but laugh. “So what if it tastes different than what they were before? I think it’s a great idea, Wade. And it’s not like any New Yorkers are around anymore to argue with me that whatever we can make is an authentic New York experience.”
Wade turns his face to him, startled. “Really? You think it’s a good idea?”
“Absolutely. And why stop there? I bet we can fight our way to Coney Island and liberate some of the cotton candy machines and fix them up. God knows there’s enough Nuka-Cola around, I don’t think I’ve opened a single mailbox since I woke up that didn’t have one stashed away in it. Has anyone been working on radiation-tolerant sugar cane? Someone should really be working on sugar cane.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” Wade says in hushed tones, running up to stand next to Peter now. “We can purify water. We can protect ourselves. We can do all kinds of other things if we want.”
“One thing at a time, though. Let’s not try to revitalize Broadway all in one night. Let’s start with sugar canes, yeah? What do sugar canes need to grow?”
“Uhhh… I dunno. I bet there’s a book somewhere that says how to grow it, though.”
“Alright. Once we’re done with the--” He lets out a shout as a super mutant starts running at them from across the street, accompanied by his muscular hound. Wade doesn’t lose a moment. In about a minute and a half there are four dead super mutants and two dead hounds to scavenge. Wade snorts with disgust at the haul. “Boards and pipe pistols. Ugh. At least we can get some screws out of these things. And we’ve needed more wood for a while.”
Peter picks them up and straps them to his back, humming in agreement. “Maybe upgrade the pistols and give them to some of the older kids? They need to start learning to shoot.”
“Sure. Let’s grab some soda bottles too while we’re out for targets.”
Peter nods, then looks up at the buildings around them. “Hey. Let’s go to the library. We can keep an eye out for things and pick up some exotic gardening books too.”
“Alright, nerd.” The laugh in his voice is unmistakable, and Peter smacks him gently on the shoulder. He was going to say something like, ‘please, you’re nerdier than me,’ but he’s interrupted when the warm feeling he had in his gut earlier comes back, but this time much, much stronger, as soon as he touches Wade. Wade doesn’t seem to notice the goosebumps that are forming on Peter’s skin now. What the heck is going on?

Hogan's Heroes
(This is gunna be hard because I love HH just the way it is but here we go.)
1. Backstories. We don’t know anything, really, about the heroes pre-WWII. We know Kinch is from Detroit, Carter has a grandmother (?) who is Native American, Newkirk got up to all kinds of sketchy ass shit, Schultz owned a toy company, and Klink was an accountant. Nothing is ever elaborated on. (Except, maybe, the fact that Klink was a really shitty accountant but we could have guessed that.)
2. Klink redemption arc. Yes he was a squirmy coward, yes he had zero morals, yes he had no true loyalty to anyone but himself; BUT, that makes the idea of a redemption arc EVEN BETTER. I think, given the opportunity, he could have been a halfway decent person.
3. There was no baby episode. I’d change that.
4. A multi-episode Rat Patrol crossover with ~*~explosions~*~ ctsy of Tully and Carter.
5. More continuity. A LOT more continuity.
