Thanks for the ask! I really love the idea of an AU fic inspired by MTV's The Challenge, my favorite reality competition soap opera. Lexi and Fez were roommates on a season of The Real World and always gave off major romantic vibes. (Maybe there was even a community of shippers called Fexi?! Meta much?) Lexi was in a relationship for the season so it could never happen. When they both get invited to compete on The Challenge, Lexi is finally single but unsure if Fez has already moved on. (doing the read more thing below.)

Once they arrive, host T.J. Lavin announces that the theme of the season is "Crushed" - where former Real World cast members are paired up with a person they had feelings for but never hooked up with. (Kind of like Battle of the Exes, for Challenge fans in the know.) They live in a house together, compete in ridiculous athletic events and elimination rounds, and, of course, go out to nightclubs and host house parties where hookups may or may not happen in front of the cameras. The other pairings are ridiculous and make for lots of drama. (I'm thinking backstory of Maddy/Nate/Cassie love triangle, Ethan/Kat revisited, Rue/Jules makeups to breakups, Elliot and Travis and BB sprinkled in somewhere.) But ultimately, Fezco and Lexi emerge as the top team and get closer throughout the season. Maybe there are a couple of Challenges where they each have to face their fears (heights? snakes? eating bugs?) and are so supportive and sweet together. The fans are chomping at the bit for a hookup. How can they help themselves? Fez keeps talking in confessionals how he doesn't want to push Lexi towards a relationship when her breakup is so fresh, and Lexi sits in front of the confessional camera tearing her hair out because he's not making a move. They, of course, win the whole season and kiss with a big fat oversized check in their hands on top of a mountain they just climbed in the Andes or something. MTV really wants to film the inevitable wedding special, but they are perfectly satisfied to live a quiet little life together and joke to their kids about how they met on reality TV.

when Hubhouse and Carl broke up and she was supposed to go on traitors I felt the universe shift to try and give me a CT/Hubhouse coupling but somehow things were misaligned and now she's out with Bananas and like...booooo wrong The Challenge alumnus!!!

MTV's The Challenge - CBS has ruined this show

There is one reality/competition show I've watched since I was in elementary school and that's The Challenge (previously known as Real World Road Rules Challenge) on MTV. I've been rewatching old seasons recently, for quite possibly the billionth time lol and it's crazy how much this show has changed.

I miss when it was simple and fun. Especially when it came to the daily challenges. They were fun to watch because they weren't so dramatic. Nowadays this show is all about being extra with the effects and unnecessary themes (Spies? Really?). I've felt that ever since the whole CBS collaboration, this show has gone downhill. MTV picking people from random shows and trying to cater to international viewers (where the show isn't as popular) will slowly lead to the downfall of this show that was once so entertaining and amazing. Also fans need time to miss the show. Stop popping out seasons after seasons. It's okay to take a break here and there.

I also miss watching real people with real problems that viewers could relate to. The new cast members aren't doing it for me at all. It feels like they're only trying to boost their ig following and they're not even entertaining to watch. They exude fake vibes. Fake drama and fake personalities.

To be quite honest, the only reason I've been watching recently is because of CT. He's been my number 1 fave since The Duel (him and Diem 😭) and if he decided to stop coming on the show, I'd lose all interest.

With that said, if you are or once were a fan of this show, rewatch the old seasons on Paramount Plus. I'd say the seasons before Dirty 30 were superior. And MTV, please fix this damn show because I'd really hate to watch it sink like Real World did. Take a hiatus to figure your shit out.
