OC-tober day 11 prompt: colour palette
Hot cocoa and Helen with Efial from Cards Swords and Cups
Tumblr media
"Aren't you tired of the establishment treating you like garbage just because you were not born in one of the 'cool' families? Aren't you tired of the constant -unjust- justification of literal eugenics? Don't you wish things could be better? Join the struggle with us, disregard the rules of a game set up to fail, change your fate in the process. Overthrow the C-T.A."
Helen is her name. You would know that because of how infamous she's become at the campus. A reputation of a brute, crude mannerless woman who picks up fights with everyone she disagrees with, a punk. She does look pretty intimidating. You don't exactly disagree with what she is saying- she does have a point, you just don't really like the whole set up. Isn't she always a little... too extreme?
Efial is his name. He is a total John Doe. There is nothing noteworthy about him. Yet he stands besides Helen. Maybe things are more nuanced than rumours have them be.
They (society) hate girlbosses like us (Helen) win. So they damage their reputation to deligitimise their causes. Sure, Helen might come off as unfriendly and kind of scary, but she is far from that. From a fantasy setting where magic, a talent reserved for few people is secret from the common populace. And with most mages being extremely conservative, there's even discrimination amongst mage classes both in economic terms and lineage terms. There are many flaws in the mage society and so she decided that if no one will fight for a better one, she will take the first step, and kind of started a student movement and became the face of said movement despite her wishes. The demands are simple "if non-mage populations can still be victimised by misuse of magic, they should at least know what happened. Use magic for the betterment of all humanity, not just mages. End the blatant discrimination of non-noble mages in all mage associated institutions" and more alike. Efial, while initially recruited as a normal member, has quickly become Helen's right hand man. On top of that they are great friends. I am sure nothing bad awaits them down the line-

While I am doing this challenge mostly to keep an archive of my characters on tumblr (and to incentivise myself to draw them), if you, person stumbling upon this post, are curious and wanna learn more, my askbox is open >:3c

How Do Protein Powders Work? Benefits and Nutritional Effects
Find out exactly how protein powders work and what the benefits are of their use
Protein powder supplements are incredibly important for health. It is an essential macronutrient that helps build muscle, remove tissue, and produce enzymes and hormones.
With this in mind, the food industry has developed powdered protein supplements to help global consumers meet their essential daily intake. With its promising benefits, it is not surprising whey protein powder has become so popular in recent years.
Tumblr media
Protein Powders: An Introduction
Protein powders come in different forms. Whey, soy and casein proteins are the three most common. Whey protein, a milk-based protein, is commonly used because it is rapidly absorbed and is considered a complete protein with nine essential amino acids. These amino acids can be absorbed by your body immediately.
In addition, protein powders are now available in various markets and in online stores as pre-mixed, ready-to-drink supplements. This can be beneficial when you do not have high quality protein sources or you cannot meet your daily protein needs through diet alone.
In all of this, it is important to educate yourself about how protein powders work. Enough curiosity? Read on
Protein Helps Build Muscle
Protein powder has become a staple in the diet of athletes and fitness enthusiasts. It is an important part of their diet and the key to building and protecting body tissues, especially muscle tissue.
Athletes and lifters may need more than their normal protein intake. Research has shown that athletes with an intense training program can gain almost twice as much protein, 1.4 to 2.0 grams per kilogram of body weight, as recommended daily. A clear but fantastic bulking tip, eat more protein!
Fortunately, protein powder supplements are now available in a variety of sizes, bars, liquids and more. Lots of scoops of protein powder can really make a difference in muscle growth.
Protein Powders can help Speed Up Post-Workout Recovery
In addition to contributing to muscle growth, protein can help restore muscle and tissue damaged by intense workouts or training.
Studies show that taking protein supplements after exercise reduces muscle loss and increases both muscle function and muscle protein synthesis. This protein is broken down into amino acids which are then used by your muscles after strenuous exercise.
For this reason, athletes use protein powders to speed up the healing of postoperative pain and muscle fatigue. In addition to your protein shakes, you can include protein foods in your diet. You can read about the best types of protein for post-exercise use to learn more about it.
In addition to its restorative properties, increased protein intake can give your muscles more time to rebuild and grow faster.
It is also important to note that pre-exercise supplementation with proper carbohydrates is also extremely important.
Protein Powder Supplements Boosts Your Metabolism
Eating more protein can speed up your metabolism. Protein enhances the thermal effect (TEF) of food. According to Helen West, RD, this phenomenon increases your metabolic rate by 15-30%, 5-10% for carbohydrates and 0-3% for fats.
Metabolism is all the chemical reactions that keep your body working properly. Metabolic rate, on the other hand, is defined as the number of calories you burn.
In addition, a high-protein diet, especially when combined with strength training, can speed up your metabolism because muscle burns more calories than fat. To make it easier, add more protein to your diet.
Increase Feelings of Fullness with Protein Powders
Eating protein foods and taking supplements can make you feel full for a long time. Perfection can encourage you to control portion sizes and eat less snacking or more. As a result, it can help you maintain a healthy weight.
Protein snacks like Protein Shake can keep you satisfied and, as a result, help control your appetite, explains CSCS from Albert Matheny, MS, RD, Soho Strength Lab and Promix Nutrition. This can help you manage cravings for unhealthy snacks or prevent you from overeating the next meal.

Protest in Belgium against government's pension reform
Tens of thousands of people marched through the Belgian capital Brussels to protest the centre-right government's plans to reform pensions. Police said 55,000 people took part in the demonstration against a points-based retirement system and the planned increase in the retirement age from 65 to 67 years around 2030. Unions said there were 70,000 protesters. Police said some 25,000 took part in a similar protest in December. "We want a pension scheme that is enough to live on, not work more for less," CSC union leader Marie-Helene Ska told Belga news agency. The FGTB union has for months called for keeping the retirement age at 65 years old, despite a law parliament passed in 2016 to set the age at 67-years-old around 2030. The union said workers involved in hardship jobs should be able to take their full pension at 60-years-old or even before. Prime Minister Charles Michel's government has "significantly reduced the rights of future pensioners in a way that has not been seen since World War II," his socialist predecessor Elio Di Rupo told RTBF broadcaster as he marched in the procession. One year from parliamentary elections in Belgium, the socialist party has pledged to reverse the reforms agreed in the current legislature if it returns to power.

Ruthie Ann Miles and Kelli O’Hara
Ruthie Ann Miles as Imelda Marcos in David Byrne’s “Here Lies Love”
In the week since the horrendous car crash in Park Slope that killed two young children, including the four-year-old daughter of Broadway actress Ruthie Ann Miles, and put her in the hospital, almost 8,000 people raised more than $400,000 to help her family.
The driver who ran the red light has chronic illnesses, and was “cited on four previous occasions for running red lights and another four for speeding through a school zone.”

Here she is in 2015 singing Something Wonderful from The King and I, a role for which she won a Tony Award.
This week in New York theater: The Prom gets a date; Hamilton breaks another record, playwrights Lucas Hnath and Suzan Lori Parks get rich. A preview of Rise, the new TV series about a high school drama class. And two startling revelations from Shakespeare scholars in Cincinnati.
The Week in New York Theater Reviews
Chukwudi Iwuji and Chris Perfetti,
The Low Road
Bruce Norris’s “The Low Road”  presents the improbable adventures of a scoundrel, one Jim Trewitt, to whom an adversary rightfully attributes “a rather comprehensive wickedness.” It is a wild ride through the first two decades of Jim’s life in Colonial America, which lead up to the American Revolution, peopled by some 50 vivid characters – whores and highwaymen and Hessians; celibates and slaves and British soldiers; Mohegan scouts , rich liberal benefactors and giant alien bees — portrayed by a superb cast of 17, including Chris Perfetti as the delightfully sniveling anti-hero, and the priceless Harriet Harris as the naïve Madame who raises him. Norris intends “The Low Road” as a lesson in economics – or, more precisely, as a cautionary tale about the evils of Republican-style capitalism.
Hangmen
“Hangmen” is Martin McDonagh’s first new play in New York since the misbegotten “A Behanding in Spokane” in 2010 (He’s been busy elsewhere, most recently writing and directing the Oscar-nominated film “Three Billboards in Ebbing, Missouri.”) “Hangmen” is undeniably entertaining….There are however several caveats…As with many McDonagh plays, the mordant humor, as funny as much of it is, involves a gleeful reliance on violence bordering on the sadistic.
Mark Blum, Jamie Brewer and Vanessa Aspillaga,
Amy and the Orphans
“Amy and the Orphans” is inspired by the playwright’s own Aunt Amy (who “was born with Down syndrome during a time in this country when medical professionals told my grandparents they’d just given birth to a ‘Mongolian idiot’” who should be institutionalized), and by her introduction to Jamie Brewer, the actress with Down Syndrome who is portraying Amy. “Spending only an hour with Jamie completely changed what I believed people with Down syndrome were capable of, despite having known my aunt my whole life.” It’s plainly the playwright’s main aim to have the audience spend 90 minutes with Amy/Jamie and change our beliefs as well.
queens
In “queens,” the latest resonant, heartfelt play by Martyna Majok, a Polish immigrant woman named Renia reigns over a crumby basement in the New York City borough of Queens, but she sees it as her home, her world, and her salvation…
“queens” is not just a portrait of one woman, but of a community of women, mostly newly arrived in America, who pass through this cluttered basement, with nowhere else to live, from 2001 (shortly after September 11th) to 2017.
Week in New York Theater News
The Prom, with Beth Leavel, @therealsieber, and  Brooks Ashmanskas, is opening at the Cort Theater November 15. Plot: 4 “fading Broadway stars” descend on small-town Indiana prom to bask in publicity by supporting a student who wants to bring her girlfriend.
A sneak preview from BroadwayCon:
History repeating itself, across the pond: Hamilton gets 13 nominations for 2018 Olivier Awards, the most in the British award’s history. Not surprising, given what the British critics said
Other New York-affiliated shows nominated for Olivier Awards include Angels in America (which originated in England and is now on Broadway), Audra McDonald for Lady Day (which originated on Broadway), The Ferryman (which will be on Broadway in October), as well as a slew of shows by American playwrights.

Rise premieres March 13
Based on “Drama High,” Michael Sokolove’s 2013 nonfiction book about the visionary Levittown, Pa., teacher Lou Volpe, the first 10-episode season follows the permanently rumpled Lou from the moment he lands the drama job, beating out Rosie Perez’s better-qualified fellow teacher, to the opening night of his first musical: “Spring Awakening.” Hamilton  producer Jeffrey Seller is making his first foray into series TV The showrunner of Rise, is Jason Katims, who created Friday Night Lights, and sees the show as closer to that sensibility than Glee.
Nevertheless, there are so many musical numbers that Atlantic Records will each Friday release original cast recordings of the tracks featured in the following Tuesday’s episode of “Rise,” culminating in a full album in May.
Last Friday, they released five, including:
“Glorious (Rise Cast Version)” – Rise Cast, Auli’i Cravalho & Damon J. Gillespie

Each room is named after a pub mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays
Shakespeare wrote his plays knowing they would be cut during performance, says Terri Bourus of the New Oxford Shakespeare Project, speaking at a panel on Shakespeare for the the first-ever Regional Conference of the American Theatre Critics Association in Cincinnati over the weekend. The city fathers of London REQUIRED running time be no more than around 2 hours, to avoid the spread illness and insurrection. Full Hamlet takes four hours.
As a result of the research conducted for the New Oxford Shakespeare Project, Bourus maintained, there will no longer be 38 plays in the Shakespeare canon. There will be 43, including The History of Cardenio and Arden of Fevershame
Gary Taylor and Terri Bourus, general editors of The New Oxford Shakespeare Project, in the lobby of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company after the Shakespeare panel
The panel was held at the brand new $17.5 million building of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, which features state-of-the-art acoustics and lots of whimsical touches: a sculpture of a pig outside entitled “Hamlet,” rooms named after pubs in Shakespeare’s plays (like The Elephant.) CSC began in a church basement 25 years ago; the Otto M. Budig Theater is its fifth venue, the first specifically constructed for the theater, and one that it owns.
CSC’s building is only one of an extraordinary amount of theater/arts building and rebuilding happening in Cincinnati, including a $135 million renovation of Cincinnati’s Music Hall
and continuing expansion of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati as well plans for a new theater from the Tony-winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Galvez said 11 police officers, two of whom are officials, received awards for the good deeds they have done in the line of duty.
Yamba, a registered nurse, helped a woman in giving birth inside the patrol car while being transported to a clinic in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, which resulted in the safe delivery of a healthy baby boy.

Alvin Araneta, Civil Service Commission (CSC) regional director, who was the guest of honor of the 26th PNP Ethics Day, told the police officers to continue doing their jobs even in the midst of challenges.
“Criticisms, fear, stress, and pressure are okay, as long as we can do what your heart desires rather than living a comfortable life but your heart is not in it,” Araneta said.
He congratulated the PNP for ranking third as the most trusted government agency in the country.
The celebration of the 26th PNP Ethics Day is anchored on the theme: “Matapat at Marangal na Serbisyo Publiko, Alay ko sa Mamamayang Pilipino.” (PNA)
