I still want to post something this month, so here are some Chained Spirits doodles I did during exam season !

I love the rat people. Fantastic characters. Their wide spectrum of backgrounds and situations contribute a lot to the worldbuilding, they feel integrated into the world despite their late addition, they're strong additions to the theme and messages of the story, and they have a cohesive dynamic between them that makes them actually feel like friends for years. If you think about their situation for more than five seconds it's kind of insane. I like how Yuri pretended to betray them and literally only Balthus bought it. I also just fucking love Yuri. He's so fantastic. Obsessed with him. You will notice this very quickly.

I think Yuri catfishes men on Grindr. Balthus gets catfished on Tinder and Yuri has to save him from getting scammed out of $200 for stolen feet pics. Hapi is a League of Legends addict who once said a curse word on the chat and accidentally blew up their server. Constance rebuilds her family's wealth by selling cryptocurrency to finance bros. They all live in the same shitty basement apartment that is literally never clean. Yuri pretends to be whatever sign is compatible with yours. How does he know your sign? You're asking too many questions.

Yuri will non-stop aggressively try and convince Byleth that he's a terrible person, mostly because he is the best person in the game and he resents it. He's such a fascinating counterpoint to Dimitri/Claude/Edelgard, who all pretend to be great people when they actually all suck a bit. Balthus tried to be a good person for about five seconds before giving up and wandering way to go play pool, in an insanely selfless and giving maneuver. Hapi resents existing and she's mostly a good person because it's too much effort not to care about people. Constance does good things because it fluffs her ego and would be very surprised to discover that she is, actually, a good person. They all think the other three are complete losers and they don't know why they hang out. They are the only actual found family in the game. Gay People (TM).

In Cindered Shadows, I HC that he was sleeping with Aelfric. Cindered Shadows was fucking wild, by the way.

Anotações soltas 19/07/2024 (texto, escrevendo)

Tenho que terminar o livro da Anais Nin (Delta de Vênus), da Hilda Hist (Ficções), tem tanto livro que preciso ler...

Então nessa última "promoção" eu só comprei mangás, justamente porque são leituras rápidas:

- Buda volume 6: além de gostar de Budismo, ainda é o Osamu Tezuka né? Algumas piadas, especialmente as referências modernas eu não curto, mas estou adorando o mangá.

- Nana volume 1: nunca li, só sei que é sobre duas garotas completamente diferentes com o mesmo nome.

- Aku no Hana volume 1: coincidentemente, esses dias parafraseei Baudelaire ("O maior truque daquele que não é o diabo foi convencer o mundo de que ele era feito de amor.") E gostei da premissa do mangá ao ler a sinopse.

- Eu gosto de colecionar as primeiras edições de mangás. E eu não consigo ler uma edição que não seja a primeira.

Não sei o que é pior, os bots com apenas uma foto no fixado ou quem nem coloca pelo menos um avatar na conta.

Essa atualização do No Man's Sky está linda. Pena que joguei tanto já que saturou um pouco.

Aquela frase do CS Lewis sobre reciprocidade me pegou em cheio... talvez porque ressoe com aquela ideia que resumi numa frase um tempo atrás: "O maior amor é o não correspondido." Engraçado como as vezes "conversamos" com outros autores, seguindo a ideia do "atemporal, anacrônico". Sinto o mesmo as vezes quando leio algumas postagens fantásticas de outros autores por aqui.

Relendo e reeditando os primeiros capítulos de O pássaro e a fonte e vendo que uma coisa que detesto ler ou fazer, repetir palavras, aconteceu várias vezes. Well, edição edição edição. Acho inclusive interessante: quantas formas existem de descrever os mesmos acontecimentos? Pra mim isso também é um tipo de "treinamento de escrita".

Falando em frases, uma das minhas favoritas é: "Seu coração é do tamanho de um punho. Continue amando, continue lutando." Não encontrei a fonte original da frase.

Só hoje fui aprender o que é um epigrama. Obrigado Cervantes.

Thinking about muhritocracy again or as our Supreme Leader puts it, "rising and falling by your own merit" -

Isn't Cyril basically the poster child of this ideal sucking?

Both in Almyra and during his spiritual retreat in House Goneril, Cyril mentions that he had to "work hard", it's implied he had to work hard to earn whatever keep he could have (food, but even then that was not common).

Cyril embracing muhritocracy also wants to work "real hard" to repay Rhea, otherwise he feels like he cannot remain in Garreg Mach.

We know the Nabs would never kick him out for this reason (hell Hilda was enrolled and Manu is still a teacher) and both Seteth and Rhea (the latter only did so off-screen and it's basically mentionned in his S support with Billy bcs Rhea can't have screentime I guess) tell him that while repaying a debt is admirable, he needs to start on living now.

Aka, Cyril is allowed to "exist" and "live" even without overworking himself to the bone to have the "right to exist".

Now, FE Fodlan being what it is, the angle of GM being a safehaven/place where old people, children and basically people who cannot "rise due to their own merits" live is completely ignored bar that off-handed comment in Cyril's support with Claude that Rhea basically wants to make a place for people without status/who are vulnerable.

And that place is Garreg Mach.

CS introduces the Abyss that is basically GM+Asylum for people seeking it, even if Aelfric paints it with a Rhea BaD veneer, it's here to offer a shelter to those who are "persecuted" on the "surface" like Dagdans and Almyrans, the poor, the sick, etc etc - basically a "place for those who have nowhere to go".

Constance's family was demoted to nothing by Ionius because they failed to defend Adrestia against Dagda? Her house "fell" by its own "lack of muhrit"... so GM offers her a place to be, even if she (her house, but Adrestia always deals with Houses and not with people!) failed once.

Tldr : GM is the place that completely pissed on Muhritocracy, and where people who have no "muhrit"/status are supported/receive help by the Church.

Cyril works very hard to "earn" the right to remain in GM, but he has yet to understand (only with his supports with the Nabateans!) that he doesn't need to "earn" any right to be and live in Garreg Mach, it's just that kind of place.

So I have this idea for this analog horror story cs I was watching Hilda

(Yes, the kids show on Neflix, yes, I'm grown who gon stop me?)

and I was like, what if theirs an entity that even most forest creature don't know about? Maybe written in the POV of an unreliable narrator? Or some sort of betrayal from something or someone the main character wouldn't expect?

I was thinking about this because I was scared shitless of the goblins when I first watched the show and I was SOoo confused as to how she didn't gaf that they neck was super long and they eyes was super small with that big ahh body.

Amikor nagyon régi filmeket nézek, azt szoktam mondani, "halottak játszanak nekünk". Lányom ezt nem szereti, mert szerinte ez így túl morbid, rossz hangulatot kelt. Én ezt másképp látom. Hálás vagyok a mozgókép műfajnak, hogy megőrzi őket nekünk, és akár évtizedekkel eltávoztuk után is élvezhetjük a játékukat.

A tizedes meg a többiek 1965-ben készült, fele annyi idővel a háború után, mint amennyi a mi csodás rendszerváltásunk óta eltelt. Az oroszok minden spájzban ott voltak, az 56-os politikaiakkal tele voltak a börtönök (már akit életben hagytak), mégis volt a levegőben valamiféle túlélő életöröm, és egy kis cinkos összekacsintás a diktatúra háta mögött. A nyolcvanas évek végén volt egy felbuzdulás, hogy legyen egy második rész, amiben arról lenne szó, kivel mi lett, a Tizedes hogyan boldogul a gmk-k, fusi és ügyeskedés világában. Aztán ez elült, mert rendszert váltottunk, mással voltunk elfoglalva. Aztán megint feltámadt az ötlet, de inkább csak beszélgetés vagy vágy szinten, mert mi magyarok mindig is szerettük a betyár virtust, legyen az Rózsa Sándor, a Tizedes, vagy a Viszkis. Ők helyettünk is borsot törnek a hatalom orra alá, és van bennük némi huncut, egészséges pofátlanság. Nem tudni, hogy írói tehetség, pénz, vagy központi akarat hiányzott az új folytatáshoz. Végül Sinkovits átigazolt az égi társulathoz, és nélküle ugye...

Úgy tudom, külföldön is nagyot ment a film, szerintem jól szemlélteti a magyarok túlélő képességét (és hogy miért nem fogadunk szót a nyakunkra ülő törvényhozóknak). Csilliószor láttam már de képtelen vagyok megunni :) Abban biztos vagyok, hogy a legjobb magyar filmek listáján mindig dobogó-közeli marad.

Recent super fun Reddit post about how 1/5 SS Silver is super frustrating and not as good as other PokeFairs got me in some kind of frothing state. Probably because this entire subreddit is a bunch of cowards who are like "the blackout won't do anything, it's just hurting our community," proving once again that Pokemon fans don't deserve rights. Anyway here's 2/5 Silver with his 1/5 grid beating some shit up, including off-typing Lucian.

Look, I'm not going to pretend SS Silver doesn't have flaws. But the notion that SS Silver's flaws are all that extreme is laughable. "He needs two support slots to do his job!" H!Caitlin bro. H!Caitlin gives him literally everything. "But he still needs crit support." If you really want to be greedy on the Buddy move, Aaron exists. At 1/5, you don't need speed buffs, so this checks out. "But why should he need so much support as a PokeFair?" Because they all do? "But look at all the other PokeFairs that came out this year and also SS Hilda." That last one is some serious cherry-picking but sure, let's talk about the others.

Emma needs help topping off Attack and Speed for full effect, and is unreliable at setting her own Poison. Lysandre needs help with special attack. In both scenarios, LA is a nightmare, where Lysandre also needs speed for gauge management, and both nearly require support to reapply their needed status, or their DPS just drops. Woe upon them if the foe is immune. SS Diantha and SS Hau are literally dead without their field effects. If we're talking 1/5, Hau is barely worth discussing, while Diantha can do okay in CS but not LA. For the ones that are super self-sufficient, like Eusine and SS Lana, that self-sufficiency comes with a high price. Eusine's DPS isn't that impressive, and at 1/5 he has none of the sync that distinguishes him from any other Water DPS. SS Lana basically doesn't have a sync, and her single-target DPS, like Eusine's, is pretty bad. That's the tradeoff, they either get to be super self-sufficient, or super powerful but clunky. Take your pick.

SS Hilda is an odd one to bring up because...well yeah, she is insanely powerful and easy to set up. Frankly I'm not sure why they made her so ridiculous. The only real limitation she has is that, at 1/5, her sync sucks ass. My wife has her EX, and it's frankly staggering how bad her sync is without Rising Tide. Even on-type is a bit of a mess.

All this to say...Silver is fairly standard for a PokeFair. If you choose not to invest in him but expect him to perform well as a damage dealer, prepare for disappointment, or to allocate the necessary investment into his success. Aaron is mandatory for a non-3/5 Silver. I can entertain the idea of Lillie, who actually has a fantastic tool in Full Power granting +3 Atk and Sure Crit to make the most of Buddy Move on turn 2, but she's a terrible tank so that was not a fun time. And I can entertain the idea of BP Clemont, but he's Ground weak and that wasn't happening with Bertha. Then again, neither was Lillie who is Poison weak. Basically, a lot of his good tools get specifically bopped this week. It's sad, but also kinda funny. But the point is, traits exist. And when people point them out, and the response is just "Yeah but those are baaaaad," the problem is you. I'm sorry Lillie isn't also a godwall. Not everything gets to be perfect. Figure something out.

Vs. Bertha (Aaron) Aaron does well enough. The main benefit of this kind of team is survival against physical. Masked Royal's debuffs are handy, and Aaron can bulk up provided it's not High Horsepower/Poison Jab at the outset. On-type, even uninvested, Silver's sync does respectable numbers. The real fun is that late-game, provided Aaron's alive, you can flinch with Attack Order and potentially stagger that last turn. I will make the general note that Silver is also frail. So the Earthquake thing was...dire. You really want to make sure the sides are weakened, or that Aaron hits a flinch on them, or it gets bad.

Vs. Bertha (H!Caitlin) Caitlin's hilarious bro. This is so much more consistent than Aaron. The Synchro Heal + shields throwdown is just immaculate. Silver's so much safer here. And you get to run Colress, who is just...so stupid. He's so dumb, I love him.

Vs. Lucian (H!Caitlin) Now here's a fun one. So, off-type this week is usually done with Lucian, because his attacks are the least scary. No natural accuracy buffs, Zen Headbutt and Reuniclus are pretty inaccurate, Colress shenanigans peak on this fight. There is, however, a lot more than bad accuracy rolls that can go wrong. For starters, Silver missing crit on sync. Love when that happens. For another, you will not tank sync without shields, so the rotation is thus:

Caitlin TM, Silver Buddy, Colress Screech.

Caitlin TM, Silver attack center, Colress Screech, Silver sync.

Adrenaline puts you in a better position for three turns later. The goal is spam damage on Lucian, cap Silver's attack if Tricksy didn't MPR, and boost special defense. When Colress has lowered special defense, spam Mirror Shot for evasion. Caitlin takes second sync, just before Lucian gets where he's going. Hope for a quad queue.

At this point, RNG goes haywire, because you need some misses. Hope for Zen Headbutt spam; often Caitlin can take one of those, and they're lower accuracy. Psychic will destroy her. Ideally, Lucian keeps swinging and doesn't use X Accuracy All until later.

From this point, Silver takes every sync. The first will not come anywhere near KOing Lucian, but it puts him in range that you don't need to spam DPS on him. Hit Alakazam once during the interval between third and fourth sync, then sync on Lucian. If his allies dropped...good luck with the quick queue. Provided it works, Lucian will drop. Alakazam is now in range of your new DPS, and the denial prevents Swift from sure-killing your ass. Unfortunately, if both allies are down, you must dodge Psychic. Success here means a two-shot, you win. I'll also note, my 2/5 Silver would have a much easier time of this, thanks to Endurance on grid. It's a good skill, recommend.

This is nowhere near a clean win, but you get the gist. It's possible. Also, if Silver were EX, it'd probably be a hell of a lot easier. But that's the point. It can be done, and the tools are there. It's just clunky. Because he's not 3/5 and EX. That's how it works. Silver's good. Apparently stupid good, since his current solo count is goddamned 9. In a lot of these cases, the problem was less about Silver being clunky, than his supports just being bad for the stage. So like...I dunno what to tell you dude. Skill issue.
