Smooth Sailing (With A Chance Of Definite Passion) (M) Set post 3x22 - I wanted to explore the question where the relationship was going without obstacles like Elsa and Marian. Later, though, other obstacles might appear, because as we know - there’s always a crisis. My very first CS fic, 12 chapters.

So Far And Out Of Sight (M in the epilogue) A post 3x20 canon divergence in five parts: Zelena’s portal never opens, and so Emma never has the revelation about missing her parents and Storybrooke being her home. She takes Henry back to New York, just like she’s planned, determined to go back to their life during the missing year. But with her blissful ignorance gone and Henry being less than cooperative, it’s not as easy as she thought. And then someone comes knocking at her door, determined to make it even less easy…

Cute Little Heartbreaker (M in part 4) Modern AU in 4 parts: Emma Swan is a vagabond. She never stays in a place longer than for six months. The night before the first day at her new job, she decides she needs a little distraction and walks into a bar looking for a one-night-stand and finds her object of choice in a good-looking guitar player. Oh, and he sings, too. From that moment on, nothing goes as planned.

Never Hurts (M in part 2) Modern AU in 3 parts, based on a prompt: We are coworkers who hate each other, but on the staff Christmas party you drunkenly confessed your feelings for me, and now I don’t know how to act around you (except, Killian knows exactly how to act). This is also a Christmas fic.

You Can Walk Under My Umbrella Modern AU: 3 parts, based on the prompt  “I forgot my umbrella and you offered to walk me home in the rain and I thought this would be the beginning of a cute love story but you’re really shit at this oh my god my shoulder is so wet, hold the damn thing properly wth man”

Neverland fics:

Sugar And Spice Killian is preoccupied that Emma endangers herself by eating something she doesn’t know. Turns out, actually it’s something he doesn’t know. Set somewhere pre-kiss.

Trying Something New The Nevengers have arrived on Neverland only shortly ago, when Killian overhears a conversation between Emma and her mother about whether it’s really wise to trust a pirate.

Fair Fight The day before the big showdown with Pan to get Henry back, he finally confronts Emma with the fact that her sword fighting skills are not as good as she thought. Is she willing to take lessons from him?

In Pain, In Need Set after Killian’s betrayal of Ursula. He returns to the accursed island full of more self-loathe than ever. Tinkerbell tries to help.

Not The Time To Be Jealous Observing a conversation between Killian and Tinkerbell causes Emma to think back to Neverland and her jealousy of the fairy. 

I Bathe Quite Frequently Emma goes to a lake to refresh herself a little before the final battle with Pan. Killian had the same idea, and she just can’t keep herself from watching.

Since We’ve No Place To Go Modern AU: After a car accident in the middle of nowhere of rural Maine, Emma Swan almost freezes to death, but is rescued by a three-legged dog named Smee and his grumpy master Killian Jones who can’t seem to get rid of her soon enough to have his self-chosen hermitage back.

Pardon The Way That I Stare Modern AU: When Emma Swan meets Killian Jones, he seems to be too good to be true. Good she doesn’t have to ponder over it, but then she meets him again.

Home Alone or How The Grinch Found Christmas Modern AU: Emma Swan and Killian Jones both planned to visit their siblings for Christmas… both were thwarted by the weather. Does it have to be a lonely Christmas for them?

Many Happy (Belated) Birthday Wishes...and a fic rec.

This post actually has three purposes - but unfortunately, due to my absolutely bonkers schedule right now, it’s quite belated in terms of fulfilling all three!!

First, a very happy belated birthday to @pocket-anon - I know it was over a week ago now (maybe closer to two...eeep!!), but please accept the happiest of wishes for your day. I hope it was wonderful, and that it was just the start to an amazing year!!

Second, belated wishes to everyone for a Memorial Day filled with both remembrance and relaxation. It’s hard to wish a “happy” Memorial Day, knowing that there are many for whom it is a very emotional day - but I wish you all the fulfillment of remembering your loved ones well, and knowing that there are others out there who are keeping you in their thoughts.

And lastly, but in no way least, this is a belated Fic Rec Monday. One of my eternal fave CS fics is @pocket-anon‘s absolutely amazing Scar Tissue. I think my re-read count on this fic is in the double digits. The story is so poignant, so beautiful, and she just does such a good job of keeping both Emma and Killian true to the essence of their characters while simultaneously setting them down in this utterly believable AU world.

Because of her own background, the medical aspects of the fic ring especially true, and Emma is thoroughly convincing as a surgeon. Killian as a wounded veteran who still stays in the service - even if in a teaching, rather than active duty, capacity - and struggles with past demons is also on point. And the way their stories work in concert with each other, and weave themselves together into one story as they work their way to a beautifully happy ending...well, it’s just simply delightful.

(And for anyone who’s ever spent any time in DC, the picture this fic paints of that setting should be comfortingly familiar).

It was while watching bits and pieces of this year’s TV broadcast of the DC Memorial Day concert from the Mall that I started thinking of the moment in Chapter 11 when Emma, Killian, David, and Mary Margaret attend the same concert...and I might’ve re-read a good chunk of this wonderful fic yet again. And by “might’ve” I mean I absolutely did.

CS Fic Rec Monday

So it’s been so long since I have made a rec list but @csficrecmonday is the perfect oportunity to rec one of my all time favourite fics!

Let's spread some love 😘. What are some of your top five favourite cs fics?

Oh, Nonny... This is so difficult!!! There are so many incredible fics out there. So here is a list of the first five that came to mind because I rarely stumble on one that I don't love...

(1) @kmomof4 has a host of incredible fics. (It is kind of fun reading her backlog because her first few fics include author notes along the line of 'I am not a writer, but I had this idea. I will probably never write again' but she has 39 strong CS fics. I say all that to say... her recent Bridgerton-inspired fic A Mistress to No One is at the top of my list.

(2) @the-darkdragonfly was one of the first CS authors I read and I have yet to find a story of hers that I don't instantly fall in love with. I love her voice and style so, so much. She is single-handly responsible for my love for Will Scarlet. My current favourite of hers is Tempest - be warned it is incomplete-ish (it is a rewrite of an older story), but kudos and comments feed the muse... so, go read it and let her know how amazing it is.

(3) @nachocheese-itsmycheese will break your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and have no mercy for you while she does it. And, if that doesn't make for some amazing fics... I honestly don't know which of hers to recommend. Read them all? Currently, I cannot get enough of Between Waking Life and Our Dreams but that Darkness Series is also so good. And, I cannot forget the Captain Cobra story...

(4) @hollyethecurious and @winterbaby89 also have an entire bookshelf of amazing fics. Their joint effort Dark Hook Comes to Storybrooke is bloody brilliant.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I HAVE ALREADY REACHED....

(5) @donteattheappleshook is another of my first CS fic authors and, again, has a host of incredible fics for you to read. Not Broken at All is one of my favourites of hers, but seriously the other ones are so, so good that it is a favourite by the finest of margins.

But, seriously, this misses so many fantastic authors and amazing stories...

Author Rec - Welllpthisishappening

Sometimes fic recs just don't go far enough, sometimes you come across an author that you feel could get you to read pretty much anything and love it and you just have to just recommend their entire body of work.* Laura @welllpthisishappening is one of those authors.

If you'd told me a few years ago that I would read - just read, not love - a 45 chapter fic about ice hockey I'd have laughed in your face. Full on cackled. The kind of total hysteria that takes you past the point of obnoxiously loud and into silent stomach-crunching laughter that actually hurts but you just can't stop. It's fair to say that I'm not the most sporty (or sports-loving) of people.

But such is Laura's talent.

Her way with words is damn near magical. She creates beautiful, layered plots faster than you can blink, writes banter like it's as natural to her as breathing and picks the perfect pop culture reference every time.

She's got a whole library of Captain Swan fic to devour and adore, but if you haven't yet read anything by her, here are my personal top three (honestly, it was super hard to narrow this down to a small number):

To Make The Season Bright

It’s just one weekend. At Christmas. In New York. With everyone there. With Killian there. It’s fine. Emma doesn’t mind – he’s always there and she wants him to be there and it’ll be good. Great, even. Festive. She’s looking forward to it.

Honestly.

She just hopes she doesn’t do something stupid. Like shout feelings in his face. That probably wouldn’t be very festive.

OK, story time - I was the worst pregnant lady. Some women glow when they're pregnant, I just glowered. Damn near constantly. My youngest was due right after Christmas and I was, quite simply, moody as fuck. Then this fic came along with its friends to lovers, mutual pining, and making out. At Christmas! It was like a little festive treat, a respite for my pregnancy-addled brain that was as comforting as being wrapped in a fleecy blanket with a great cup of coffee-hot chocolate hybrid and cinnamon rolls while being cuddled and having your hair stroked. I thank this fic entirely for giving me a break from obsessing about pregnancy, it was a god send. Even, now 14 months later, I break this fic out whenever I need a lift. It's literally open on my phone right now, I love it.

Wrap Around Your Dreams

Emma Swan is not a very good witch. She’s emotional and prone to immediate reactions and neither one of those things are currently helping her when the body count in Storybrooke is on the rise.

And there’s far too much blood at each crime scene and far too much magic and Emma has no idea where to look next. So she does the almost human thing; she starts making a list. Of clues and ideas and the absolute desperate hope that the killer isn’t what she’s certain it absolutely has to be.

The last thing she expects is for the notebook to start writing back.

The reason I was drawn to OUAT in the first place was because of the idea of taking magical characters and plonking them into our world. It's one of my favourite things - magic and myth clashing with the modern world. This fic is a totally unique twist on the fusing of those worlds, it's dark, compelling and still provides on the banter front. Totally wonderful.

Nights Were Mainly Made For Saying

It’s possible. Emma is certain. She’s going to fix this. She’s going to save him. By time traveling. Which is totally, absolutely possible.

She’s read about it. There’s a theory.

So, no one has ever actually done it yet, but that doesn’t mean she can’t or they can’t try and she just needs a little help. From Killian Jones. And his magic.

This is another creative use of the mundane and the magical but with time travel alongside the romance and all of that good stuff. It's like the best episodes of Doctor Who - dark and scary but also witty and light and touching. (And it actually totally makes sense.) This one will burrow its way into your soul and take up residence there and you'll be glad of it.

I realised that I picked out two dark fics from Laura, who is the absolute queen of the make out scene, and that I didn't choose any sports fic, which feels like a crime. But the truth is that she can turn her hand to anything, and whatever your favourite fic you will find something by her, and it will be gorgeous. And seriously, you should take a chance on the fics that don't immediately call to you if they're written by her. Just the other week I was like "I don't even know what March Madness is, but if Laura wrote a fic about it, it'll be amazing." And it was.

Her writing and honestly her whole being is a ray of sunshine. Go read something by her and tell her how fantastic it - and she - is, you won't regret it.

*(She's also absolutely a Good Human. 10/10, would recommend as a friend.)

Hollye is the absolute WORST...

I mean really... how else did you expect me to start a post about my sarcastic bestie than with sarcasm???!!!

She is the WORST about making me want more... and crying... and begging... and pleading... and just sitting over there in her corner that I send her to regularly laughing evilly and clinking coffee cups with her fellow torturers @artistic-writer and @sherlockianwhovian while continuing to plot my demise... but seriously, she is an INSANELY talented writer and I am tremendously blessed to call her my friend! She is the best kind of mom who balances me out when I go overboard and helps reign me in and see sense when I’d rather just throw myself off the cliff. But enough about her... now I want to share what my favorite fics are that she’s written! All of her fics are absolutely incredible and I recommend them all, but these are the ones, in no particular order, that I’d better have with me if I was ever stranded on a desert island...

A Knight for a Swan. This was the fic that Hollye and I became friends over. The one that I reread the other day and discovered that I had not left kudos on or bookmarked...

the one I devoured as she wrote it each week, the one I was in TOTAL MELTDOWN SCREAMING CONNIPTIONS over every week, the one that I sent her to the corner for for the first time, the one that started it all...

The campaign had lasted only mere weeks before King George had been dispatched, and King Arthur had victoriously claimed the throne. Divided loyalties among the Lords and Knights of King George and Sir David had left the kingdom too weak and disorganized to put up much of a defense. Now all the lands were vulnerable. It was only a matter of time before an army loyal to the new Sovereign would come to capture, not only Sir David, but all his lands, his holdings, and even his only daughter. All in the name of the new King.

What Lies Beneath the Mask

Killian has never seen his face. At least, not that he has memory of. Rescued by his adoptive father, Lord Rumple Gold, when he was a mere four years old, Killian has always been told that his heartless mother abandoned him on the steps of Misthaven Cathedral because of his monstrous deformity. Everyone knew of the dark creatures that were rumored to lurk in the forest, the mystical elements that cast a foreboding veil over every cluster of trees, every sweeping branch and quivering leaf. The forest was quiet in the way fear was quiet. A silence one felt in their bones as it thundered in their ears from the pounding of their heart.

To Emma Swan though, the quiet of the forest wasn’t that of fear, but of tranquility. She felt no foreboding in the way the trees swayed, even on windless days, or the shrouds of fog that collected along its floor. Emma was fascinated by the forest, always had been, but had never set foot across its border. Let's spread some love 😘. What are some of your top five favourite cs fics?

Oh, Nonny... This is so difficult!!! There are so many incredible fics out there. So here is a list of the first five that came to mind because I rarely stumble on one that I don't love...

(1) @kmomof4 has a host of incredible fics. (It is kind of fun reading her backlog because her first few fics include author notes along the line of 'I am not a writer, but I had this idea. I will probably never write again' but she has 39 strong CS fics. I say all that to say... her recent Bridgerton-inspired fic A Mistress to No One is at the top of my list.

(2) @the-darkdragonfly was one of the first CS authors I read and I have yet to find a story of hers that I don't instantly fall in love with. I love her voice and style so, so much. She is single-handly responsible for my love for Will Scarlet. My current favourite of hers is Tempest - be warned it is incomplete-ish (it is a rewrite of an older story), but kudos and comments feed the muse... so, go read it and let her know how amazing it is.

(3) @nachocheese-itsmycheese will break your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and have no mercy for you while she does it. And, if that doesn't make for some amazing fics... I honestly don't know which of hers to recommend. Read them all? Currently, I cannot get enough of Between Waking Life and Our Dreams but that Darkness Series is also so good. And, I cannot forget the Captain Cobra story...

(4) @hollyethecurious and @winterbaby89 also have an entire bookshelf of amazing fics. Their joint effort Dark Hook Comes to Storybrooke is bloody brilliant.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I HAVE ALREADY REACHED....

(5) @donteattheappleshook is another of my first CS fic authors and, again, has a host of incredible fics for you to read. Not Broken at All is one of my favourites of hers, but seriously the other ones are so, so good that it is a favourite by the finest of margins.

But, seriously, this misses so many fantastic authors and amazing stories...

Hi Nonnie, thanks so much for your ask and kind words! I’m so sorry it took me so long to post this, I feel awful, but it was a terribly busy week/weekend.

So, I know you are not trying to get me in trouble here, but I don’t like to exclude authors by naming my favorites because honestly there are so many talented authors on here who all have their own writing style and many different ideas, so to only name a few would not cut it I think. There are a few Tumblr blogs that always post fic rec lists and I would like to call them out.

There are also fic events going on where you can find some wonderful stories:

@cssns has a cs supernatural event with stories about wolves, vampires, ghosts, ect.

@searchingwardrobes has an event for authors to post stories based on romantic comedies. 

@captainswanbigbang will be posting some amazing MC stories starting in September, and there are also stories from previous years too.

The stories I’m following are older fics that haven’t updated in a really long time because I haven’t been reading much lately. I would say a trope that I try to avoid is fake!dating, which I know everyone loves, but I’ve just never cared for this trope unless the story very mildly includes it. 

Here is a list of some recently updated MCs that deserve some more love and recognition, but I’m not sure of all of the author’s Tumblr blogs so some of them I mentioned their AO3 accounts. Anyone can feel free to any stories to the list!

Ugly Duckling by @Sabstar - Emma Swan is the opposite of a beauty queen. She likes her hair up and her shoes comfortable and couldn’t care less about the Storybrooke Beauty Pageant, run by her mother and former contestant Mary Margret. The pageant happens annually in her town and Emma avoids the mob scene of makeup like the plague. Things start to turn upside down when Emma decides to write an expose for her school newspaper about the superficial scandals that happen within the pageant. Emma may be competing undercover but will she learn that the world of beauty is less superficial and a little more beautiful than she originally thought?

Fairytale of New York (T - INCOMPLETE) -  Emma Swan and her best friend Mary Margaret “Snow” Blanchard are ready for a change. After Mary Margaret gets offered a new job at a school in Manhatten, Emma decides to go with her. She takes a job in a traditional, mom and pop diner called Granny’s and soon both of them are finding love in the most unlikely of places.

Besides the original characters the author has added her own twist to the Season1plot. Henry actually has friends his age and it’s beautiful. Killian adopts 2 beautiful youngs girls and Mai is the sweetest cupcake EVER !!!! The author is on hiatus right now and believe me, she deserves it :) But please check out this fic.
