Crystal Jewellery Styling Tips: How to Incorporate Crystals into Your Everyday Outfits
Crystal jewellery is not only beautiful but also imbued with powerful energies that can enhance your daily life. Incorporating these pieces into your everyday outfits can be both stylish and meaningful. Here are some tips to seamlessly blend crystal jewellery into your wardrobe.
1. Start with Statement Pieces
If you're new to crystal jewellery, begin with statement pieces like a bold necklace, a chunky bracelet, or a striking ring. These pieces can serve as focal points in your outfit, adding a touch of elegance and intrigue. For example, a large Amethyst pendant can elevate a simple dress, while a raw Citrine ring can add a pop of colour to your ensemble.
2. Layering for Effect
Layering different pieces of crystal jewellery can create a unique and personalised look. Combine necklaces of varying lengths with different crystals to add depth and interest to your outfit. Mix and match bracelets or stack rings for a boho-chic vibe. When layering, consider the colours and energies of the crystals to create a harmonious combination.
3. Complement Your Outfit
Choose crystal jewellery that complements the colours and style of your outfit. For instance, clear or white crystals like Quartz and Moonstone pair well with any colour, while green crystals like Aventurine and Jade add a fresh, earthy touch to neutral or pastel outfits. Be mindful of the overall aesthetic you want to achieve – whether it's casual, elegant, or eclectic.
4. Mind the Occasion
Consider the occasion when selecting your crystal jewellery. For a formal event, opt for elegant pieces like a delicate Rose Quartz necklace or Sapphire earrings. For everyday wear, simpler pieces like a Black Tourmaline bracelet or a Fluorite pendant can add subtle sophistication. Tailoring your jewellery to the occasion ensures that it enhances rather than overpowers your look.
5. Embrace the Energy
Each crystal carries its own energy and properties. Choose jewellery that aligns with your intentions for the day. For example, wear a Carnelian ring to boost confidence and creativity during a presentation, or a Labradorite necklace for protection and intuition on a challenging day. Incorporating the energetic properties of crystals into your style adds a layer of purpose and intention.
6. Mix with Other Accessories
Don't hesitate to mix your crystal jewellery with other accessories. Combine a crystal necklace with a gold chain, or wear a crystal bracelet alongside a leather strap watch. Mixing materials and styles can create a balanced and eclectic look that reflects your personal style.
7. Seasonal Choices
Consider the seasons when selecting your crystal jewellery. Light and airy crystals like Aquamarine and Clear Quartz are perfect for spring and summer, while deeper, richer stones like Garnet and Smoky Quartz complement the autumn and winter months. Seasonal choices can enhance your outfit and resonate with the natural energies of the time of year.
8. Personal Signature
Develop your personal signature style with crystal jewellery. Whether it's a favourite Amethyst bracelet you wear daily or a signature Turquoise ring, having go-to pieces that reflect your personality and style can make your outfits feel uniquely yours.
By following these tips, you can incorporate North London best crystal jewellery into your everyday outfits with ease and elegance. Let your jewellery not only enhance your style but also bring positive energies and intentions into your daily life.

pato o'ward + witch/mage/etc!reader (basically reader has magic lol + odd little trinkets that pato is intrigued by?)
i love this :D
pato o'ward x gn!witch shop owner!reader
your shop was your safe place
hidden in corners that only your fellow supernaturals would think to look in, you loved it
it was adorned with a wide array of trinkets and gadgets, some for sale and some for show, and was lit by an array of magical sprites
you knew no human could find your shop... unless a supernatural being brought them there
and that's exactly how you met pato
one of his friends, a werewolf, had brought him to your store
something about running late and not being able to ditch him
pato was obsessed
sure, he knew his friend was a werewolf, but meeting an actual witch? that was fun
you had to tell him not to touch stuff but he kept trying to
when you were finally tired of his touching and tapping, you gave him some crystals and told him to go wild
pato was also obsessed with you
you were funky and cool, covered in markings and jangling pieces of jewellery that created a melody pato wanted to listen to forever
he got your name from a friend and spent a couple of afternoons trying to find your shop before ultimately coming across it on his third try
when you heard the bell jangle, you weren't expecting to see the human from before
he had you intrigued now and you agreed to let him stay and talk... on one condition
no touching
he tried so hard to follow that rule but your necklace intrigued him and he touched it
you'd all but hissed at him to not touch before blushing bright red and apologising
things were starting to float around you and you had to get pato to help grab things and put them down before they fell to the ground and smashed
pato managed to get your number that day and you soon found yourself enjoying his company and conversations with him
when he comes into your shop and asks for a love potion one day, you're not sure how to feel
you ask who for and pato doesn't hesitate to say you
you're confused but pato spells it out for you - he likes you and he knows you don't feel the same, so he wants to love potion you
love potions are illegal but even then, you can't be plied with your own creation and you say as much to pato
he's a bit distraught and put out by your response before he asks how he can win you over
you laugh and smirk at him over the counter, confusing him even more
when you tell him that you already have feelings for him and its all thanks to his charm, pato perks up
you have feelings for him!?
you roll your eyes and tug him closer, kissing him
the kiss only ends when someone wolf whistles, pulling you two apart
its his friend and he's smirking up trouble
you roll your eyes and rattle a bone at him before throwing it at him to play with
once pato's friend is settled, you're soon back to kissing pato again

⎯ ✦ morganite & red jasper
genre: fluff wordcount: 1.0K pairing: Audrey Rose x fem!reader pronouns: she/her other: Y/N is daughter to the Queen of Hearts (mainly for the colour palette), takes place after D3, reader is described as wearing a lot of jewellery/accessories, reader wears gold jewellery, established relationship, they live together warnings: one swear word, implication of arguing with parents summary: there is a little surprise for Audrey and Y/N when they reveal their one year anniversary gifts to each other thorn's notes: originally posted 30/Sep/2022; edited from original. I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to actually start reposting, exams have had me in a chokehold recently.
⏤ return to old posts masterlist
Y/N of Hearts is known all around - both on the Isle and on Auradon - for her fierce temper, and with her heritage it would be more concerning if she didn't have any sort of temper. It wasn't uncommon for her to blow up over the smallest of things, hell she'd even gone up against some of the teachers before and almost against the King himself. There was only one person in the entire world Y/N would never yell at, her girlfriend: Audrey Rose.
The day the barrier had come down and willing villains and VKs were able to pass through was the best day of Y/N's life, finally able to escape from her mother's wrath - something which was always stronger when battling against her own.
When Y/N and Audrey had first met they had both been standoff-ish towards the other but Y/N had quickly grown a soft spot for the preppy, pink princess. The way she never stood for Y/N's bullshit and would always tell her so. The way she was willing to patch Y/N up after a fight. The way she never grew upset or angry at Y/N for little things. The way she actually cared.
And thus a most unlikely friendship formed, a friendship that blossomed into a loving relationship.
Speaking of relationships, it was a week before Y/N and Audrey's one year anniversary and Audrey had brought Evie and Dizzy along with her to the mall to look for gift options and provide Audrey with second opinions. Audrey felt sure jewellery was a safe option; Y/N tended to wear a multitude of accessories at any one time, somehow always making it work without looking too much.
Walking into a jewellery store, Audrey broke away from the other two to look around at what the store had to offer. This store was different to any of the others the girls had been in so far today, almost all the jewellery displayed had some sort of crystal element incorporated into the design.
It was a collection of rings that caught Audrey's eye, specifically one towards the middle of the display case. All the rings were made up of a thin gold that wove itself delicately around different crystals. The one that Audrey had noticed was a crimson red stone labelled 'Red Jasper'.
Audrey called Evie and Dizzy over to where she stood - both of them agreeing the ring was the perfect present for Y/N. Next Audrey waved over a sales employee, asking about price and whether the ring could be wrapped to be bought as a gift.
Five minutes later the three girls were leaving the mall, Audrey carrying her purchase in a small paper bag.
Finally it was the day of Audrey and Y/N's anniversary. Y/N woke up first - deciding to leave her girlfriend in her peaceful slumber - and made her way to the kitchen of their shared apartment, preparing to treat Audrey to breakfast in bed. It wasn't fancy by any means, simply scrambled eggs and toast (cooking was not something that was really taught on The Isle).
Y/N plated two lots of the food, balancing the food and a glass of water on a tray and manoeuvred her way back to the bedroom. Audrey was awake now, the lack of warmth that typically radiated off her girlfriend stirring her from her dreamland. She sat at the vanity across from the bed, brushing out any tangles that had formed in her hair during the night.
Y/N pushed the door close with her foot and pressed a kiss to the crown of Audrey's head as she passed to put the breakfast tray down on the end of their queen-sized bed. Walking back over, Y/N pecked a kiss to the same place as previously before her love turned around on the plush, velvet pink ottoman. "Good morning." Audrey greeted, earning a peck on the lips in reply.
"Morning." Y/N returned the greeting with a soft smile. "Happy anniversary lovely, I'm looking forward to later." 'Later' meant the anniversary date the couple had been planning for a while now, both wanting everything to be perfect.
"Happy anniversary to you too gorgeous. I have something for you." Audrey turned back to face the vanity, reaching into one of the side drawers.
"And I for you." Y/N had moved towards the bedside table next to her side of the bed, pulling out a small black box. Y/N was back in position before Audrey; the box the ring she had bought was in had slipped to the back of the drawer, causing the girl to have to grope around a bit to try and find it.
When Audrey turned back around, Y/N was down on one knee, as if proposing, a small black box sat open in her palm to reveal a ring of gold that intricately wrapped around a soft pink gem. It looked almost the same as the one in the box Audrey held.
Rather than answering Y/N's 'proposal' in words, Audrey pulled out the ring box she'd hidden behind her back, popping it open to reveal the scarlet red stone encased in gold. Seeing the likeness of the rings, the two lovers laughed. They had bought rings from the same set without knowing it. Slipping each other's rings on, Audrey inspected her's closely. It wasn't rose quartz from what she could tell, but she wasn't sure what it was instead.
Noticing the puzzlement on her girlfriend's face, Y/N couldn't help but chuckle. Grabbing both of Audrey's hands she explained:
"The crystal is called Morganite. Supposedly it radiates the energy of love, peace and compassion," adding in a quieter tone, "at least that's what the store employee said." Returning to her normal volume, the girl continued, "It melts boundaries to make everything seem possible. I heard that and I thought it suited us, more importantly I thought it suited you."
Y/N's words brought a warm blush to Audrey's face as she buried it in her hands, while Y/N just looked on lovingly at her partner. There was no doubt in her mind that, come what may, she would stay by Audrey's side until the day she died.

Portrait of an Empire
Flufftober
Day 4: Market Day
The holocams were rolling. Sheev made sure to take Luke’s hand and angle them both so the nearest one, branded as Imperial News, the network he owned himself, got a stellar shot of them. This part of Coruscant could only be described as hippy, with colourful banners streaming wherever the eye landed, flower petals drifting upon their heads from where the plants themselves spilled out of flowerboxes far above them, and something that Sheev was to understand was meant to be music pounded through the duracrete at their feet. It was all very overwhelming for a young boy, but Luke was running around in excitement for now.
He would tire later, and throw a tantrum, but they would make sure to turn the holocams off and get him out of there before that happened.
The stalls that lined the two side of the footpath over the Coruscanti airways were equally overwhelmed, barely supporting the weight of the goods they held. Trinkets, all of it—dangling decorations, scarves, jewellery, sweet soaps small enough as to be useless, and good luck charms. As a much, much younger senator, Sheev had occasionally frequented markets like these. The stalls claiming to be spiritual, which peddled advice for meditation, soothing tinctures, and enchanted amulets, were largely nonsense. Either fools or scammers—or both. Sheev had seen even the open-minded Jedi walk past them with a wrinkled nose.
But sometimes—sometimes—they got their hands on something of true power. A Sith artefact, or Jedi emblem, imbued with some echo of its creator’s strength. Sheev had always known he must be the one to acquire it before a Jedi could find it. He’d built up a curated image of himself as an art and artefact collector and critic so that the Jedi did not suspect a strong interest in the Force from him.
There was nothing here today. Sheev had had the market swept in advance of their visit—while valuable, artefacts could be dangerous, and the last thing he needed was Luke getting hurt while on holocam. Still, the boy made a beeline for those occult stands, staring wide-eyed at crystal balls, silks, and rings that supposedly helped your sleep. Sheev tamped down a pulse of irritation.
He was on holocam. He couldn’t say anything too harsh, anything that would offend the stall-keeper—a Zabrak woman with enough piercings and tattoos that Sheev thought she might be Dathomirian at first glance. But he did not want Luke wasting his time here.
“See something you like?” the stall owner asked Luke, her wheedling sales tone softening into something a little more genuine. Luke looked up at her, blushed, then looked at the many twinkling trinkets on her table.
Shiny things. That was it. Children liked shiny things.
Luke pointed hesitantly to a box of crystals. Before the stall owner could react, Sheev leaned over to answer him first.
“What is it about them you like, Luke?” he coaxed.
Luke looked up at him, then the lady. “Pretty,” he squeaked out. “And”—he squinted at the sign—“magic.”
The stall owner smiled knowingly. “They are. Sleep with them under your pillow, and they absorb your stress. So you sleep peacefully and have a great day when you wake up.”
Kyber crystals did do that—to an extent. Kyber crystals absorbed all the world around them, especially the emotions of those who they had a connection with. But these weren’t kyber crystals. Sheev would be surprised if they weren’t just stained and polished glass.
But Luke’s eyes widened. He looked up at Sheev. “Grandpa,” he said, his tone urgent with want.
Sheev was about to say no—being involved with the rearing of a child meant that was one of the foremost words in his vocabulary—before he remembered the holocams rolling behind them. Luke had already drawn a crowd, various people awing at the sight of him, their own personal holocams lifted. He had his own little cult following already, the boy, thanks to the events of Sheev and his PR team.
They needed to buy something at this market. Otherwise, what use was it as a PR stunt? They could’ve just walked along a balcony and had the same effect.
But he still gave Luke a hard look. Luke got the point. “Please?” he tried.
Sheev let his face break out in a grin. His warm, grandfatherly smile wasn’t as winning as it had once been, before his scars, but Luke had never known him to smile otherwise. It still worked fine on him. His reaction made it work on everyone else.
The stall owner was already sifting through the crystals. They clinked together—definitely glass, by that sound. “What’s your favourite colour?”
“What’s your favourite colour, Grandpa?” Luke asked.
Laughter and more coos. Sheev, blindsided, blinked. He needed to say something regal. Something that fit with the image of the Empire—and, even if those watching the stream wouldn’t appreciate the significance, with the image of the Sith. Black was no good; there were no black crystals in the box. Red was better. The colour of his lightsaber. Of blood. Of the scarlet banners that added what little splash of colour came to Imperial design.
“Blue,” he said.
It had been, a long time ago. When the seas and skies of Naboo were the only freedom he’d known. Then purple—for the prestige that accompanied it on his homeworld, and the implicit connection to power. Slowly, his outfits had shifted darker and redder. The Sith, perhaps. But also just because he no longer needed purple to show off, and he liked to cut a dark, striking figure. Blue sat in the background too easily for him to endorse it.
Only sometimes, though, he thought, looking down into Luke’s eyes. Only sometimes.
When he looked up again, there was an ultramarine shard of glass in the stall owner’s hand.
Hating to give credits to these peddlers, Sheev gestured for an attendant to bring payment. He consoled himself with the positives. It was good that Luke was showing an interest in magic, as he’d breathed so reverently. That would keep him engaged in his training, and perhaps one day he’d be interested enough to assist Sheev with his own research into Sith artefacts. As such, his interest should only be encouraged.
And the want welling in him at the sight of the pretty crystal was to be encouraged as well. Sith wanted, and what they wanted, they took. Abnegation was only practised by the Jedi.
But the stall owner shook her head. “For you,” she told Luke, pinching the end of the crystal and holding it out to him, “for free.”
Luke’s smile was shy. He took the crystal and immediately buried himself against Sheev’s side. Everyone laughed. Without needing prompting, he said, “Thank you.”
“Are you sure I can’t induce you to take…” Sheev asked the stall owner, but she shook her head. Then hesitated, narrowing her eyes at him. She was likely one of those loudmouthed intellectuals who said they disapproved of the Empire but rarely did anything about it. Talking to him wouldn’t be good for her image in the circles she ran in, bowing to him even less. But she inclined her head. The red guards behind him probably encouraged that.
His smile widened. If Luke came to assume that all he wanted was due to him for free, and there was no requirement for fair exchange, all the better for a Sith.
“Very well,” he said. To Luke: “Is there anything else you wish to examine? We can move on.”
Luke shook his head, pulling back. “For you,” he said—and held out the crystal.
Sheev blinked. It seemed none of the many onlookers knew how to react either. He raised a hand to his chest. “Me?”
Luke nodded earnestly. “You work hard. The Empire is busy. You’re always stressed. I can sense it.” What Luke was sensing was the dark side, Sheev suspected. But he couldn’t explain that in front of everyone. “It’s for you.”
Finally, Sheev inclined his head and accepted the gift. “Thank you,” he held. With an effort that he put on for show more than necessity, he knelt down and opened his arms wide. Luke threw himself at him in a hug. “You are always so thoughtful.”
More cooing. Over Luke’s shoulder, Sheev smiled. It was always so easy, charming the crowd.
Especially when Luke was here.

Getting to Marigold
Chapter Thirteen
Teal, Citrine, Lime
“You’re not my favourite colour. But I could see you working okay beside my bed at Mommy’s house if you were a blue-ish shade of green.” Tara was addressing a small antique rug which hung attractively over the rung of a vintage pine quilt holder. “She’s got too much red in her, don’t you think, Ms. Jeanie? After all, my comforter is mostly teal with gold swirly lines...”
Jeanie contemplated the rug as seriously as the child had done.
“I think you’re right, kidlet. Teal and red? Mmm. Not not so hot a combination. But you might not want to go with aquamarine, either. How about picking up your comforter’s golden accents instead?”
“You don’t think that would be kind of—I don’t know—garish?”
“Well, there are golds—and there are golds. A butterscotch-gold—you know, one with a very warm undertone—might be a mistake. But a cooler lemon-gold could be just the ticket.”
Tara cocked her head to consider this suggestion and then nodded earnestly. “I can see that, Ms. Jeanie.”
The May-December window shoppers were having a marvellous time at the indoor antiques and collectibles market. Long after the rest of their party had retreated to the book and video game stands, Jeanie and Tara were still agreeably absorbed in critiquing the merchandise.
Here, they found a vendor who specialized in milky Depression glassware. There, one who featured cast iron bulldog doorstops. And, over here, one whose cases were brimming with vintage crystal perfume flasks.
Of course—since they were purportedly on an educational outing—as soon as they’d arrived, Jeanie and Tara had spent the better part of an hour gazing in fascination at the tightly packed showcases of the Barbie Doll Museum.
Tara had been especially drawn to the fashion designer dolls. And, after rolling names like Oscar de la Renta, Givenchy and Dior around on her tongue, the little girl had fallen passionately in love with the extravagant Bob Mackie creations.
Opal rhinestones. Amethyst sequins. Silver lame…
My gosh.
What wasn’t there to adore about those?
However, as tempting as it had been to purchase one of the fetching Barbies, it had been clearly understood by both Jeanie and Tara that real shopping with actual money for tangible goods was forbidden today. So, with no prospect of filling up a bag with fashion treasures—and their purses no lighter—they’d eventually turned their attention to the rest of the sales floor.
Strolling casually through the crowded market aisles, the odd-sized pair paused to point out antique furniture that caught their eyes. They compared tastes in chinaware and vintage jewellery. And fantasized about where unusual objet d’arts might find a perfect home in their décor.
And—since they were outlawed from buying anything—the price on the tag didn’t matter at all. So, Tara could speculate about where she might wear an art nouveau citrine and amethyst pendant necklace. And Jeanie could consider the unblemished mahogany veneer on a nineteenth century chest of drawers. And neither felt compelled to consult with the respective dealers about either the cost of the jewellery or the machinations needed to deliver such an unwieldy item back home.
Sadly for Jeanie, poignant reminders of Sylvie were everywhere. Yet, she never mentioned a single memory to Tara. Today was solely for the little girl’s amusement, she argued to herself. And it would have been just as wrong to burden Tara with the heartache that the sight of Sylvie’s favourite style of Nova Scotian Chippendale chair awoke in her breast as it would have been to similarly encumber Bernie.
Therefore, Jeanie stayed mum—and she and Tara blissfully prattled on.
Finally, the congenial gal pals came upon the tables filled with jellies, jams and pickles. But, just as Jeanie and Tara embarked on a lively discussion vis-à-vis the merits of apple butter versus lime curd versus classic strawberry jam, they were rudely interrupted by an ear-splitting shriek.
“Tara! What on earth are you doing here?”
Startled, the little girl and Ms. Jeanie swung around in tandem to witness her mommy bearing down upon them like a runaway freight train.
But Dolores’ headlight glare wasn’t fixed upon her daughter.
Nope. Not at all.
“Jeanie! I thought I told you that I didn’t want you taking Tara out shopping!” the outraged woman barked as she rolled up. “I hope you’re proud of yourself. You’ve just screwed over Chuckie—but good! C’mon, Tara,” she snarled, grabbing her daughter’s hand. “You’re coming home with me!”
“Mommy!” cried Tara, pulling back from her infuriated parent. “We’re not doing anything wrong!”
“Please don’t take this out on Tara and Chuckie,” pleaded Jeanie, putting a restraining hand on Dolores’ arm.
“Back off, Jeanie!” snapped Tara’s mother, shaking her hand away. “Tara! C’mon—!”
“No!” Tara sank to the floor in a flawless imitation of a boneless chicken and lay as one dead.
“Get up!” Her mother continued to tug at the child’s flaccid arm.
“Dolores! It’s my fault. Please leave her alone!” begged Jeanie, as other shoppers muttered and edged away from what was obviously a domestic dispute.
“Dolores? Tara?” inquired a fourth feminine voice.
Jeanie glanced up to see a woman, perhaps a little older than herself, off-loading a bunch of shopping bags to Tara’s stepfather, Mark. And, behind them, dashing through the market at a rapid trot, she spotted Chuckie, with Bernie and Don right on his heels.
“What’s going on here?” asked Mark. “Hi Jeanie! Nice to see you again.”
“Dolores? Mark?” quizzed Chuckie, pulling up in a cloud of dust.
“Chuckie!” began Dolores, red-hot. “Tara’s being a complete brat!”
“What? Why?” Chuckie squatted down to talk to his kid. “Bugsy, get up. You’re gettin’ all dirty down here.”
“I’m not getting up ’til Mommy says I can stay!” wailed Tara, still prostrate on the floor.
“Well, they’re closin’ up in a coupla minutes anyhoo—”
“I mean—stay with you, Daddy! And Ms. Jeanie and Ms. Bernie and Mr. Don—!”
“What?” Still on the floor with Tara, Chuckie took a big breath and blew it out. “Dolores, what’s this all about?”
“I told Jeanie that I wouldn’t put up with any more materialistic crap!” Dolores glared from above. “And here she is out shopping with Tara anyways!” Taking a firmer grip, she tried once more to haul her unruly daughter upright.
“We weren’t!” howled Tara, losing all muscle tone once more.
“They really weren’t…” echoed Don, with quiet sincerity.
“And, by the way, if it’s so evil to shop—what are you doing here?” asked Bernie, hovering nearby with a saccharine smile.
Her cheeks scarlet with the exertion of tugging on Tara’s dead weight, Dolores refused to even acknowledge this insolent question from Chuckie’s latest squeeze. “Ta-ra! Get! Up!”
“And the fact of the matter is,” explained Jeanie, virtuously, “we came here to visit the Museum. It’s the only one that’s free.”
“What museum?” snorted Dolores, resentfully giving up her assault on Tara’s arm to face off with Jeanie again. “There’s no ‘museum’ here!”
“Yes, there is,” interjected the older woman who, by now, had been joined by an older man. “A Barbie Doll Museum. Did you enjoy seeing it, Tara?”
“Yes, Gramma K!” exclaimed Tara, almost knocking her mother over as she suddenly bounced to her feet. “It was amazing! Did you see the beautiful Bob Mackie dolls?”
“Oh, yes! Weren’t they spectacular, honey?” nodded Tara’s Gramma K. “And did you notice the Christmas collectible dolls in their ballgowns? So pretty!”
“That’s not a real museum!” objected Dolores.
“Yes, it is!” chorused Tara and her Gramma K.
“It’s says it’s one on the internet,” stated Bernie, blandly exhibiting the entry on her phone screen to Dolores, who clucked her mistrust of the obviously spurious listing in reply.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we’ll be closing in five minutes,” a loudspeaker announcement suddenly blared. “If you need help with your purchases, please see a vendor for assistance”
“We’d better get a move on, folks,” suggested Don.
“Yep. Sounds like they’re ready to shutter the bazaar,” said the other older guy. “I’m Mark’s dad, Allen Boxer, by the way.” He shook hands with Don and gestured to the woman by his side. “This is his mom, Kendra. We drove up on Christmas Eve from Hamilton to hang out with the grandkids for a week or so.”
“Don Todd and Jeanie Dinmont. Bernie Todd—and you’ve already met Chuckie?” returned Don, shaking hands while indicating who was who. “I hope it’s not a problem that we’ve got Tara with us until New Year’s—?”
Allen smilingly shook his head, “Not at all.”
“We shared a lovely Christmas Day,” beamed Kendra.
But, “Not any more you haven’t got her!” Dolores overrode her in-laws’ pleasantries. “I expressly barred Jeanie from—”
“Shush, Baby,” soothed Mark in a low voice. “You’ve already caused too much of a scene.”
“But she isn’t supposed to—!”
“Okay, okay.” Mark turned to his stepdaughter. “Tara, honey, what did you buy?”
“Nothing! We were just looking—!”
“Okay, Tara, you simmer down too,” cautioned Mark. With a sly nod to the little girl, Mark gave Dolores a sideways hug. “See, Baby? She’s just been window shopping. It’s not really the same thing—”
“It’s emphasizing stuff over substance.” Dolores wasn’t giving up, but she was calming down.
“It’s an outing to an antiques market with her daddy and his girlfriend’s family,” stated Kendra, calmly. “Seriously, Dolores, there’s no reason to get your knickers in a twist.”
“But material junk is all this woman cares about—”
“No, it’s not,” stated Bernie, flatly. “In fact, my mom’s absolutely a people person.”
“Yeah,” agreed Don. “So much so, she’s determined to put on a huge family reunion next summer where—for our sins—we’re going to be sporting plus-fours and flapper skirts all week long.”
“Not forgettin’ that supa-cool Roarin’ Twenties play she’s got Lindy pennin’ for it. Starrin’ moi and my band o’ merry thespians!” added Chuckie, with a theatrical bow to Tara who giggled and bowed dramatically back.
“Well, if it’s as good as the one we saw you in last summer, it’ll be hilarious!” grinned Allen. “Can we get in on this reunion thing?”
With her family rallying around her, Jeanie felt heartened enough to answer honestly. “I’m afraid you’d have to—” But the jam and jelly vendor cut her short with a gruff, “You guys need anything else?”
“We’ll take a jar of the apple butter—and a lime curd, Tara?—and one of the strawberry, please,” requested Bernie.
“Is that okay, Dolores?” asked Jeanie, archly. “They’re consumables. Not something that’ll clutter up a shelf. And we’ll be sure to recycle the jars.”
“If you guys hadn’t—” responded Tara’s mommy, stiffly.
“Oh, please don’t worry about Dolores,” broke in Mark, with a smile. “She’s a just teensy bit cranky today because it’s the first time she’s left our twins with a sitter.”
“I am not cranky! And I—” bristled Dolores, but it was pretty clear that she was on the verge of tears.
“You, Baby, you are going to say bye-bye to your daughter and the nice folks,” broke in Mark again. “And we’ll see Tara on New Year’s Day, just like we planned.”
“That really would be for the best,” agreed Kendra.
“Mm-hm,” nodded Allen, tapping his watch significantly.
So, Dolores—still looking as if she didn’t agree at all with this course of events but was unreasonably outnumbered by the people who did—muttered, “Bye, Tara…” and suffered herself to be drawn off by Mark and his parents. Who merrily waved and smiled “Bye!” to Tara and the others as they left.
“You need a bag?” asked the jam and jelly vendor, handing Bernie change for a twenty-dollar bill.
“No, thanks,” said Bernie, tucking the jars into the side of a large cloth sack.
“You bought something else?” asked Jeanie, surprised.
“Just a video game,” smiled Bernie.
“It’s a classic,” nodded Chuckie.
“That’s a big bag for just one video game,” said Jeanie, eyeing the bulging sack suspiciously.
“Not if there’s a cool crazy quilt an’ a bedside lamp for me in it too,” laughed Chuckie. “Here, Cutie. Let me make like a Sherpa an’ haul that load.” And, taking the bag, he gestured for Bernie and Don to proceed him to the car.
“So—” Tara’s major pout from earlier was reclaiming her face. “Ms. Bernie and Daddy get to buy jam and a quilt and a video game and a lamp? And I don’t get to buy anything?”
“No,” returned Jeanie, cheerfully. “But I’ve got a couple of belated Christmas presents for you to open in my craft room when we get home.”
“Oh,” said Tara, her expression clearing instantly. “Is one of them a kit to make jewellery with?”
“That would be telling,” said Jeanie, but her answering smile gave her small friend more than just a little hope that it might be so…

Newcrest Fresh Start - weeks 5 and 6

You may recognise Newcrest's newest resident; Spellcaster Grace Anansi. A non-committal romantic and a bit of a goofball, Grace signed up to the repopulation programme on a whim. She liked the idea of forging her own path and hoped that establishing a magic and crystal shop for her community might finally be her calling.
She wasn't expecting to arrive in town on a snowy spring morning with only the bare essentials, but at least she has a fire pit for warmth and some very basic cooking. She quickly sets about exploring her neighbourhood, digging for crystals and potential potion ingredients.

Saturday's hunt isn't very fruitful, mostly Grace just finds fossils which she is unable to sell until the town's museum is established. She decided to take a quick gig judging a sandcastle competition to provide a bit of a buffer.
By Sunday she has scoped out the best local sites for digging and even manages to find a rare metal to craft her first bit of jewellery with.
It's peaceful in her corner of Newcrest, but things could get a little lonely so she sets about to meet her neighbours, Kristof and Avery.

Avery is very welcoming and even lets Grace use the shower at her vet clinic, but Grace isn't sure if her and Kristof are going to hit it off. Before she starts to regret her decisions, her old roommate and friend Tomas pops by for some encouragement, and keeps her company whilst she enjoys a roasted fish.
The week passes by with a steady routine of crystal hunting, jewellery crafting and selling and fishing for her dinner. By the end of the week Grace is able to plant some magical herbs which she can use to make potions and some green beans and mushrooms.
She also manages to by a cheap counter and till, meaning she can finally sell her wares in person to a diverse customer base.

Before she knows it Summer has arrived and Grace finds a low value crystal she can craft into a seed gem. In a week she'll have her own crystal tree and a free source of materials for her crystal crafting.
She also stocks her first sim-brewed potions. They are not very profitable, but she is still able to sell her Jewellery to collectors if they don't sell during the day.
This is fortunate as a summer storm is predicted and Grace needs to build a small, bare room so she can stay dry and continue work.
Despite these efforts the storm wreaks havoc; Grace is struck by lightweight, slips in the mud whilst dazed and when the storm clears she is left with a heavy fear of the dark. This is not useful when you are still living in a tent.

Grace is working hard but as a romantic sim she needs a little spice in her life to keep going. Finding herself feeling a little lovelorn she decides to put herself out there - especially after noticing Knox Greenburg regularly running through the neighbourhood.
Sadly Knox politely declined her advances, as did Akira Kino. Grace's confidence is starting to wane a bit before she hits it off with a handsome customer. Keith sticks around for some flirtatious banter around the firepit, giving Grace a much needed motivational boost.

By midweek sales are pretty consistent and Grace is becoming more skilled at gemology. She find enough profit to expand her building to finally enjoy some indoor plumbing and a real bed.
The Sims Municipal Council will allow Grace to officially register and open her business once she has a till, counter, toilet facilities and 10 crafted objects for sale. Once she is open Grace and other occult sims will be allowed full use of their powers and perk tree.
Grace is so close to meeting that target!

On Thursday evening Grace receives a call to let her know she has inherited a small sum from a distant relative. It's enough to cover the crafting costs of several new crystal and jewellery items.
Grace decided to push herself, working all Friday and Saturday morning to make sure she has ten products in stock before opening her store on Saturday afternoon.
After selling a restocking some items Grace is can proudly say her shop is open for business, the first officially registered community lot in Newcrest!
She still has a lot of work to do, she needs a proper indoor shop space and a more comfortable living area but she ends her first two weeks feeling great.

Satisfied the experiment is going well the Sims Musical Committee decides they should let two more households move in before giving all residents some time to earn more cash and continue their building plans.
The official government randomiser lands on the Green Family; Emily and David, their teenage some Tritram and Emily's mother Maria.
The Greens will establish Newcrest's community farm, making fresh produce available to residents and removing all Simple Living lot challenges for their neighbours.
