THE ANNUAL EORZEAN MELON CRUSHING CONTEST!

It’s Moonfire Faire again, and you know what that means! Melon Crushing!

That’s right, it’s back! Come join our host, Miss Eorzea 2017 Kiera H as she hosts another wonderful melon crushing contest. No thighs will be denied! Any and all races are encouraged to come and participate!

The event will be run through /random. How it works is that you have “X” chances to reach “X” number, simulating the size of the melon and the effort taken to crush it. For example, the first round will be three chances to roll above 200. If you manage it on your first roll, fantastic! You do not have to roll anymore after that. 

We will be hosting it here at Hidden Falls <31,23> on August 20th 2022, at 2:00pm EST on Balmung server. 

This is an all-ages event, so please act appropriately! 

The prize this year is, like always, bragging rights, the title of Melon Crushing Champion of Eorzea, as well as 250,000 gil !

Hope this doesn't come across as unsolicited. aside from the Grindstone there are a number of fight club/sparring events on Crystal that seem like more Jak's vibe. Even if she doesn't fight some smaller venues would probably give you room to use her other hooks to start conversations

The only time I'll consider anything unsolicited in the rude way is if it IS rude (or creepy) - so no worries there!! <3 Besides, I've been quietly lamenting my own oc's stubbornness in my notes, so I'm open to ideas.

And not to seem like I'm brushing suggestions aside - but funnily enough, fight clubs are up there for Jak as one of those things she considers a waste of time. Pointless fighting gains you nothing, in her mind - she's spent years training hard not so she can be a tough punch-girl... but because she was small and afraid, once. And people showing off that they can fight well in the controlled space of a spar kind of just bores her/puts her off - anyone can do that. Any simple beast of the land can rut and fight... so what? (But that's part of why I made A'vaanoh! I wanted an oc that was more willing to go to different places - less paranoid, less stuck in weird beliefs and expectations. Though I love Jak best, and she's just a pain in the ass to get out to places.)

With my FC shuttered/no longer running events to bring people to the jazz club/bar/restaurant that her Yakuza gang runs... its gotten harder to meet people. I mean, the fc house is still there, and makes a good backdrop for RP. But it's just me these days, so it's hard to aspire to host any kind of true event anymore. Jak is just so anti-social that it's hard to get the ball rolling - but she's never going to work on that if I can't finagle her into situations where she has to work on it, lol.

That said, I've been trying to brainstorm a way that isn't 'people just have to come to her', since that feels unfair? I'm keen on having her stir up trouble in Ul'dah, and making that a plot to bring others into... but I have no idea what to do, ha! I've had this formless idea for a long time of 'Jak wants to stick it to the wealthy elite in Ul'dah for how they treated her/other refugees', but I feel like I'd have to cook up a whole lot. A villain or two or three, schemes, NPCs... and I'm usually the one who builds on the bones of a plot, so I'm having a hard time with the formless inspirational building blocks of that idea.

I have, for well over a year now, actually had it listed in my RP hooks on my carrd that she's seeking someone who can ICly either teach her more about magic (she can't use it, and the aetherologist she was seeing ghosted, though she'd maybe see another), or who can/will make/provide for her something she can use to...as she would say, "bypass magical locks". She's aiming for high end cat burglary, after all, and figures Ul'dah's richest won't merely rely on mundane protection for their prized collections. She wants to know how to disable wards/runes, what to look out for, etc. Thieving from Magic Practitioners, it's a high level course no one seems to teach... (this feeds directly into her desire to do more fuckery around Ul'dah - and it would make her have to get to know someone, and it's no fun to just snap your fingers and know how to do a thing...I thought it would be fun if she learned a skill from another ne'er do well of some kind! That's the good shit!)

All that said...I appreciate the input! Now if I can figure something out to drag a paranoid, mistrustful little woman out of her safe zone(s)...lmao

Hello! I'm so sorry if I missed this in your FAQ or FAQ tag, but I was wondering if you promote venues! The particular venue is also an FC, but the advertisement itself would be more geared towards venue activity.

I do! Venues go under the catch-all #events tag and are then normally sorted by data centre and server (for example, this is the Crystal and Balmung tag, specifically). It's also not a big deal if the event is tied to an FC or not — I'll oftentimes just give it the additional #FREE COMPANY; (server) tag so people can see it at a glance if they're shopping around for new free companies.

Honestly, it's generally safe to assume I'll reblog most community events in XIV these days, save for the obvious OOC/Clubbing scenes. Art parties tend to be welcoming/friendly to roleplayers even if it's not always a direct focus, but the OOC Clubs tend to be just that: places where people can hang out OOC. There's nothing wrong with them! But they're not rp friendly and drift away from the original focus of this blog.

So It Begins: Part One

In honor of its 301 years of independence, the Amaris royal family invites everyone in the kingdom to Elestren Castle for a ball. Come celebrate with food and merriment. Guests of honor include the descendants of the valiant rebellion and the beloved Good Witch.

Location: Elestren Castle In-Game Date: February 21st, 301 A.D.W. (Independence Day) , Sunset Event Length: February 1st 12:00 PM CST - March 18th 11:59 PM CST (Includes Part 2 of Event)

Details:

This event marks the beginning of the novel.

Originally, this is where the Dark Prince and Crown Prince become interested in the Fairy. This launches one of the major conflicts in the novel.

The ball will last from sunset until dawn. 

The celebration is a masquerade, which is considered particularly offensive in the Darien Vale, as their biggest celebration is a masquerade.

Previous celebrations have been a regular ball.

The theme of the ball is “Honoring Elestren”, however people might take that. (e.g. dressing like native animals, the founding families, etc.) 

This year, the main event is a re-enactment of the supposed final battle between the Good Witch and Dark Witch. The re-enactment will take place just before midnight.

So I've started trying to kind of keep an eye out for RP FCs again. Content-wise, I'm looking for a good-aligned adventuring space that's fairly Lore-adherent (if I'm going to be playing in a sandbox I want to play in the sandbox you know?) and a balance of Events for Excitement vs Downtime social RP for doing character work. OOC, I'm looking for folks who are largely 25 and up (for maturity's sake), LGBTQ-minded and aggressively left-leaning who value ooc communication and safe, fair conflict resolution. Small-to-medium spaces are my preference; events that don't go much over the party limit is the size I'm most comfortable with.

GIVEN I AM ON BALMUNG I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping folks might have beads on groups that may be Open but not necessarily Advertising on BRPN or the Community Finder. If you think of anything, throw me a DM with details!

For many turns whispers have filled the ears of Hingashi citizens; rumors of violence, darkness, depravity— a secret culmination of shadowy powers that work their hands in all manners of business throughout the whole of the One Sea. Even with the Garlean Occupancy, these families found ways to reconvene and keep their ever intangible power in place. These families, the ‘yakuza’ families of the East, found means by which not only to keep a revolving door of power in place: but also a means to orchestrate organized chaos for their very own entertainment.

And it rises, rearing its bestial head.

From the shadows does the Mujihigi return to the world once more; a single crest that strikes a myriad of emotions into those who gaze upon it. For some, determination and excitement. For others? Fear. (A special thank you to @wayward-whelpling for helping me finish the emblem! Go check out his work!)

WHAT IS THE MUJIHIGI?

The Mujihigi is a b-monthly underground fighting event, open to all underworld/syndicate and yakuza RPers on Balmung, including those with links to gambling and trafficking. But it is more than that. The Mujihigi is a storytelling event, a story in which is open to all who want to participate!

In this fighting den, powerful criminal organizations/families and/or those with underworld ties from around the world will pit their fighters against one another for the glory of the champion’s title (Yokozuna), the riches acquired through bets (IC gil,) and for the honor of showcasing martial prowess and strength in the name of your family (This allows an FC/Group/Individual to name a champion on their behalf.)

Unsponsored Fighters will be placed within a pool of ‘potential fighters’ from the service pits (ie: loners, thieves, outcasts, prisoners who have requested freedom, indentured servants, etc) and will be ‘auctioned’ (for IC gil) to members of the Mujihigi’s many syndications to fight on their behalf for the event (a second to their own champion.) This allows lone rpers, characters who’s FC may not necessarily wish to be involved wholly, or someone who wants their character to foray through the fighting den to make those connections and gain potential reputation for their character.

Each Mujihigi consists of 7 fighters: Shin-Yokozuna (Current Champion) included and is preceded by ‘Hype Night.’

WHAT IS HYPE NIGHT?

Hype Night is an event preceding every Mujihigi that is more of a social gathering of aforementioned malignants where they mingle, place bets, make backroom deals and consider purchase of unclaimed fighters. It is a night of celebration, with performances and plenty of connections to be made.

Bets will begin on Hype Night and end as fighting starts on Fight Night!!

ARE THERE ANY PRIZES?

The person who can successfully guess the bracket results correctly (match by match, including the winner,) will receive a $25 mogstation prize of their choice. (Can be multiple items totaling to $25 as well.) || US & Canadian Residents only, excluding Quebec. No physical prizes, digital delivery, no purchase necessary.

The winner of the Mujihigi will receive a cleaned and colored sketch of their character in kesho-mawashi and haori reflecting the emblem (kamon) of their sponsor by @jeaart, to be delivered on the artist’s schedule.

Signups will begin with this post, and end on June 26th at 8pm EDT (or whenever we get the 16th signup. Make sure to sign up as quick as possible, these spots go quickly!). If we reach 16 signups before then, they will close early! If we do go over the slotted amount of spaces, we still want to include you!! So even if there are more signups than spots, you and your character will be offered a chance to fight in a Prelim-Fight for one of the available spots in the real tournament.

Any and all fighters interested will be given a chance to participate in the story, but for those lucky 8 that make it into the brackets, we will be providing custom banners! See an example below.

These banners will be posted in a separate advertisement once all prelim fights have been decided, and the brackets for the tournament becomes clear!

PLEASE make sure you are committed to seeing this through. We will be accepting only 16 fighters, and because of the structure of this tournament, the day of the Fighting could last several hours. Scheduling is key!

HOW DO I SPONSOR A FIGHTER?

It’s actually pretty easy! Sponsorship is simply bringing your organization/business into the fold and putting your IC gil up for sponsoring your fighter. These details can all be talked about in advance (or also rped out— whichever is more convenient!) A representative for your organization however must be present at both Hype Night and Fight Night. Please contact us (discord: jeaart#6354 /Bryte Darklyt#4586) for an invite to our discord server for more information!

I’M UNSPONSORED, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME?

Not a problem! Hype Night is the day where unsponsored fighters are put up to have their “fees” paid by an organization in exchange for their participation. This is a way to network, but also a way to further side stories by integrating your character with another’s in a way that may see their debt paid back either by winning, or by other tasks ordained by the sponsor. These side stories are absolutely important to have discussed OOCly, but that was what this event was for! Making stories! If you do not receive any bids, do not worry! The House will take on your sponsorship costs, and thus you will just be at the will of the Enforcers.

HOW DOES BETTING WORK?

No actual gil will be exchanged. The bets are entirely IC. Odds will be given on every fighter during the hype night. Winning wagers placed will ICly reflect these given odds in the payouts offered. When betting, please look for at betting representative at the desk or Camille Everardi during Hype Night. All bookies will have a [looking for meld] tag during hype night and will be near the desk of the event hall. You’re welcome to send a /tell or RP out the wager in the line at the betting desk with one of the bookies.

If you’d like an IC storyline to occur from a lost bet, please let us know OOCly so the House can continue the story appropriately based on the outcome if your character cannot pay for a wager that was made on credit. [Please remember all wagers are IC and no actual gil will be exchanged!]

On Hype Night we will be beginning the betting simulation! We will post a link to a google document that lets you decide your bracket based on how YOU think the tournament will go. To the person who gets it 100% correct from Round 1 to the Finals, we will be giving away 25$ in mogstation credit!! The link will be posted here after Hype Night ends, and will be kept open until fights start on Fight Night.

After almost a year of serving the late-night community in FFXIV, we find that Life has come along and given us a few lemons. Schedules no longer allow us to host this event as much as we’d like to continue, so it’s with a heavy heart that the Stars’ Rest Inn will be closing its doors permanently after this week.  We’ve loved being part of the FFXIV community, all of our late-night friends and patrons have been a welcome boon to us and we hope that somewhere down the line we’ll be able to cross paths with all of you again.  Until then, safe travels and be well.

◈ You will find the Silversail Bay on Balmung, the Mists, Ward 3, Plot 14 on the Crystal Datacenter! You’ve roughly 30 minutes to settle in and browse our expansive menu, before the performances break off! For security purposes, any heavier arms are to be left with our security for safekeeping, as well as any accompanying minions and such. They’ll be in good hands, we promise.

[ Keep in mind that The Mithrin Fleet is a mature, 18+ FC at all times, and this is reflected in the events we host. We humbly ask all attending folk to be of age, as the contents of our events are bound to include likely cussing, harsh drinks, various profanities, and whatever else comes by. No public ERPing is permitted, however. ]
