So here I am, lucidly dreaming that I'm in bed sleeping and dreaming that I'm chilling on the top of a countryside hill in spring. There's wildflowers all around me, and bees gladly attending to those flowers, but the bees have no fucks to give about me and the slight breeze is keeping me at the right temperature to doze off.

When suddenly...

"Hey, you know what would be fun?"

I open my eyes to look at the entity about to find out what a fully activated lucid dreamer can do, but there's nothing tangible around me. I grunt in dismissal and turn over. The texture of the handmade blanket intrigues me and I focus on determining if it's knitted or crochet by touch alone.

"Hey! This is important!" The breeze gusts with an impatient chill that blows the bees away from around me.

"Now, why are you taking shit out on them?" I didn't bother to turn back over but just spoke to nothing in particular. "They're just doing their thing and have nothing to do with me. You asked what would be fun, and I'm answering. Being at peace with myself is fun, thank you very fucking much, and I get so little of moments like this in the waking, I am jealous of them here. So either drop your existential load or get dropped, because this dream is going to end the way it started."

"Oh." The breeze sighed into a whisper that permitted the bees to return vigorously to the wildflowers. I didn't realize how comforting the scent of the blooms were until it returned with the calm in the air. "Well. It's just, that. Um."

I snuggled down harder on the blanket. The mottled texture wouldn't reveal the secrets of its construction and as consolation it became softer and cuddling. "Sorry, can't hear you over the sound of my impending snoring."

The breeze stilled entirely and the air itself became a blanket that layered over me. I realized then that the entity was manifesting here as the very atmosphere over the land. It sighed and tucked itself into the nooks and corners inside my joints. We cuddled together then, holding mutually still as the bees did as bees do.

"Okay. You're right. This is nice."

Damn right, it is.

After a while, my curiosity got the better of me. "So, what was so damn important?"

"Pendulums. You should learn how to use them."

"... I wanna be mad with you, I really do, because I've had pendulums for years if not decades in different materials and length and they really don't work for me as advertised and this is why you were so determined on ruining a good night's sleep?"

"It's important?"

"Why?"

"I don't know. I'm just the messenger."

"Okay, fair. Who sent you?"

"Um... I have no way to communicating that to you."

"Unfortunately, this is also a fair and reasonable answer." They grew heavier on me in the way that a weighted blanket settles down and I decided being mad at them wasn't worth the resulting discomfort. "Message received, but chasing pendulums isn't going to be a high-priority project. If anything, I just need to learn how to work with what I have."

"So, how do you end dreams like this, anyway?"

"Peacefully? Well, I'm very comfortable here, and it's just a matter of allowing myself to drift off to a deeper sleep."

So I did just that.
