those SETI people never cease to amaze. the latest project is sending a message to mars and back using a functioning scientific ESA satellite and receiving it with three active research telescopes on earth

the goal is to get the public to band together to "decrypt" this simulation of a "extraterrestrial signal" but they're taking significant time from several pieces of incredibly expensive to use actual research facilities

also they're storing this "vast data" on a cryptoshit network with their own coin that needs a step-by-step walkthrough on how to download it

it's 1,679 bits. bits. this is the "vast data" they mentioned in the press release.

the project is being run off of the SETI discord server

i am so upset at the sheer waste of resources going on here, both scientific and energy waste, just to bounce a message off of mars and store it on the fucking blockchain
