Jaehyuk Lim is a South Korean industrial designer that recently came up with an interesting concept for Nike.

The NIKE Cruiser Board is an electric personal transportation device that is easy to use and charge. His main critic is that “boarders carry their boards by hand when they’re not using them”; to solve this problem he realized a “cruiser backpack” to temporarily store your board while you are not using it. The backpack works also as charger, to optimize the use of the Cruiser Board.

My Cosmic Sailor (Part 1)

When I first met you, it was in an English speaking lesson carried out in the dormitory. These lessons were carried out by some missionaries who wanted to spread the teachings of their God in a subtle way. It was around after lunch at summer, the bugs were singing and biting, and I was lazing on my bed. Mitsuo, my roomate at the time, told me to join the English lesson in the lobby. I hesitated, but decided to go instead, what better to do anyway? Nothing. Descended down the dingy stairways, and walked into the room. The class has began, and there were so many new faces. Being the person who lived in the dormitory the longest, I could have been considered the “senpai”. I was at a point in my life where I did not feel the need to interact with newer kids anymore, as it’s always the same scenario; they came, we became good friends, we became better friends, and then they left. I was tired of that cycle, I was done with it. I was scanning the new faces one by one, spent more time on each girls, spending a good second on each as unnoticeable as I could have. Nothing particularly interesting to me, until I saw you. You were seated in the right corner, looking down at your papers. The initial thought that ran through my mind was; “If I married this girl, and messed up bad, it would be like the movie Ju-on.” You looked like the ghost there. You had this mysterious, quiet vibe that generally allured me, your presence itself was an unsolicited invitation - the perfect irony. The person in charge of the lesson, Mam Belen, gave out papers for us to fill in, it was some sort of ice breaker. We were supposed to go around the room and ask 5 people about their family or that sort - 5 rows that we needed to fill in with details of 5 people. I wanted to go to you right away, but I also wanted to appear as cool as possible. I went around and did my round.

Someone saw me, smiled and approached me

The time was up, and I lost my chance. I stared at these names and facts of these people I didn't particularly care about. The class was over, and I still felt empty. I drew out another column with my pen, gathered up all the courage I had, and walked up to you. I told you that I have not finished the assignment yet, hoping that you would think it was cute of me to draw another column. I drew that from nothing, and that empty column brought me to this point in life - insane. You filled it up, and I felt so great that day. It was that moment where you got me all fired up, wanting to get to know you better.

From then on, I hang around the lobby more, as often as I could. Fuck not talking to the new kids, I needed to get more information on you - It’s an ENFP thing. One day you came by from the female’s wing as I was sitting and talking to Asami, probably struggling in the conversation due to her lack of prowess in the english language. I had to talk to you. I told her that I needed to meet you, and walked over to you as you were talking to the guard. I started with small talk, and then asked you to go watch a movie with me. You wore that “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” shirt a lot, and I figured you would like to catch it on the cinema. You agreed, and we went sometime in that week or so.

I held my cool as much as I could when we walked around Trinoma, but I lost it all when I realized that the ticket was missing. I freaked out a bit, only to realize that I had lodged it into my wallet. I couldn’t remember much of the movie, but I still remembered how awkward that moment was.

You cooked me ramen at one point of our dorm life together. You showed me how you cooked Yakisoba. The taste was great! I saw you make it from scratch after, and saw that you used raw eggs - That made me feel rather sick as Filipino raw eggs are super unsanitary, but whatever, I was with you, and we were watching South Park.

A few weeks later, I came up with the idea of how I was going to ask you to be my girlfriend. I was going to say that I needed your help in picking a penny board skateboard (cruiseboard). I gathered up 3k pesos, and then went with you in a Jeepney. We bought the board, a silver Triple H one. We then moved to Eastwood to try the Caramel Beer. I took pictures of you as we rode around the Eastwood area, near the fountain. Being with you, I felt invincibly happy. At the caramel beer area, as we drank off our mugs, I pulled my trigger;

“I want to be serious with you” You replied with a confused stare. How dumb of me to forget that English was not your main language. Maybe I was also extremely shy - I kind of did not want to wear my heart on my sleeve. I repeated myself, with more courage than ever;

“Be my girlfriend”

You sat in silence. Frozen in what seemed like fear to me. I looked at you, but I had to break my stare away, it was too long, it felt like 5 whole minutes has passed. I kept asking if you were alright. “Okay” you said after a few minutes. Your face was still surprised. I took my shot on you, and I would do it a million times over and over again  if I was given the chance.
