okay okay, what if reader and ari got together like freshly out of high school, he was the love of your life as you were his; he saw his entire future with u and no one else.

but u wanted to be something, and u weren’t going to get that in your small hometown. u didn’t even tell ari you had started looking at colleges and jobs out of state, so when u finally got the offer of a lifetime it became real. u had to find a way to tell him. but there was never a good time, u were both so happy u didn’t want to ruin the small bubble of love you’d created over the last few years.

and then ari proposed.

it was perfect, it was everything you could ever dream of with the perfect ring (it was his late grandmothers that he got altered for you). it was straight out of a movie scene.

you started crying, ari had thought they were happy tears but he was sadly mistaken. the two of you had this huge falling out, the fight that would break you and push you to board your flight the next morning, leaving everything behind including the love of your life, ari.

you didn’t talk to ari for the next few years, you called back home every few weeks and asked how he was doing and your family would always lie and say he was doing great. he wasn’t. at least for the first year he wasn’t, he was really just taking it day by day, but he eventually learned to suck it up and go on without you.

fast forward to about 2 or 3 years later and you’ve come home for the summer. you ask your family to say nothing to ari, you plan to see him when you muster up the courage given the ridiculously huge surprise you have for him.

however, that plan backfires when someone lets it slip that you’re back in town. ari’s hauling ass to your house, heavy knuckles rapping against your door as he fumes because how could you not tell him you’d be in town? how, after all these years could you just show up and not even make the mature decision to at least show your face.

he feels just like he did those years ago on that night, betrayed, upset, angry. it all comes to a boil when you open the door. he’s ready to say all the words he’s been letting build up these past years but he’s suddenly silent at the sight of you and a little boy perched on your hip that looks exactly like him.

AND THEN WHAT HUH ?? ARE YOU JUST GOING TO LEAVE ME ON A CLIFFHANGER ?? 😣😣😣

one thing i really wish people wouldn’t forget when it comes to suguru’s character is that his core desire is just to have a family. not in a nuclear family way, but in a “i want a place where i belong / i want to protect the ones i love” way…… literally everything else is just an extension of that desire. a means to meet that end. he broke down after being forced to realize that staying with his family meant having to watch them die, so he left and made a new one. and he got stronger. and his core wish was always, always always to create a world where he’d finally be able to protect them :(((((((((
