idk if you're into that kind stuff but one of my favorite books is the 4% universe by richard panek and it tells the story of the discovery and study of dark matter and dark energy and it really puts into perspective how much we think we know about the universe and how much we actually know.

WHEN THE AURORS had tracked down the shipment of dark artefacts to an abandoned warehouse, it hadn’t been exactly a priority considering everything else that was going on. This shipment was bigger than usual but there was still a good chance that it would have been relegated to paperwork until they could find a solid lead. As it turned out, it was exactly the sort of opportunity Evan needed to put Fletcher away. It was common knowledge that he was indebted to Dumbledore and that along with the fact that Moody often turned a blind eye to his dealings made his allegiances quite clear. It had almost been too easy. A few Imperius Curses took care of eyewitnesses who would be willing to put him at the scene and the Aurors already had his fingerprints on record. Besides, Fletcher already had a record for the very thing Evan was going to arrest him for. Even a short stint in Azkaban was enough to drive a person out of his mind.

Evan tracked him down to a pub on Knockturn alley. Aurors were particularly unwelcome in these parts and his robes clearly identify him as one but Evan cuts a clean path through the crowd. “Fletcher-” he called, firing a freezing charm in the same breath. He wasn’t exactly dangerous but Evan was sure he would have made a run for it otherwise. “You’re under arrest for smuggling and sale of illegal dark artefacts,” he said mechanically as he waved his wand and silver cuffs encircled Mundungus’ wrists, meant to subdue his magic before he grabbed his arm, pulling him out of the pub.

There was a flush across Marlene’s cheeks, from anger not from alcohol. Not yet, at least. She was warm too, steaming hot and probably a right mess. Her hair had started the night in neat, careful plaits. Out of the way. It tangled around her face now, catching in the thin cut on her forehead she hadn’t given Edgar a chance to look at. The atmosphere in the safehouse was tense, and she could hear distant yelling. Clearly she was not the only one feeling the stress of their disastrous night. Marlene wasn’t sure she could face another screaming match tonight. She needed a drink. To wallow in a corner with a firewhiskey and a scowl on her face.

The corner she chose was already occupied: Mundungus Fletcher. Not really an obstacle to her goals, she supposed, collapsing onto the couch next to him. It made an unhealthy creak under her and she heaved a heavy sigh. “You got anything to share?”

edgar  and  hana’s  is  the  only  place  where  yelling  children  is  pleasant.    where  the  back  and  forth  between  the  young  band  and  their  parents  leaves  her  biting  back  a  laugh.    (   they,   admittedly,   may  have  been  the  reason  her  aunt  would  sidle  up  to  her  around  holidays  wondering  just  when  amelia  was  planning  on  having  her  own  family,   but  they  had  also  been  the  first  to  show  her  just  how  much  love  was  capable  of  blooming  in  her  chest.   to  show  just  how  happy  her  brother  and  his  wife  could  be.   )    but  it  was  also  the  only  place  that  made  her  unmeasurably  tired.    it  was  a  wonder  that  hana  or  edgar  could  keep  up  with  them.

by  8pm,   the  dark - haired  witch  is  getting  ready  to  settle  in  the  quiet  by  a  crackling  fire.    the  flames  mirror  off  the  surface  of  the  twin  wine  glasses  in  her  hand,   burgundy  liquid  swirling  within  the  one  she  passes  off  to  hana.    “i  brought  the  bottle  this  time,   so  if  this  is  shit,   that’s  on  me.”    amelia  grins  as  she  settles  into  an  empty  armchair,   curling  her  legs  beneath  her.    “so,   how’s  everything  in  the  life  and  times  of  hana  bones?    i’ve  spent  nearly  all  of  my  waking  hours  this  week  at  the  office,   so  i  hope  you  have  something  exciting  that  i  can  live  vicariously  through  you  for.”
