As he drained the last of his beer, the bartender winked at him and placed another in front of him. “Courtesy of tall, dark, and handsome over there,” and she nodded to the far end of the bar. Sid followed her gaze and caught the eye of a man who was watching him—tall, and maybe handsome, with dark hair and eyes but arrestingly pale skin and a confident, appealing look to him. Sid raised the beer at him in a silent toast, holding eye contact, and sipped it deliberately.

It didn’t take long after that for the man to make his way over to Sid, and he introduced himself simply as “G” with a lingering handshake that made Sid swallow hard. He wet his lips and watched G track the movement and move in closer, eyes darkening.

I just think white progressives should value people of color’s joy. DREAMers and activists are exhaling for the first time in years. Families from Muslim ban countries are elated to reunite, but the most privileged white progressives are yelling over that to say why it’s bad.

We all know it could be better. It could be more fair, but the point is to celebrate and champion progress. There is just a blindness to the privilege of not being affected by any of these massive executive actions and it’s embarrassing. 

You should be ashamed to say nothing is different now to a person who thought they might get deported in the middle of a pandemic if they went to a hospital just one week ago. Use your privilege to lift people up, not to dictate how any of us should feel.

We ALL know things could be better. That will always be the case. It’s not settling to appreciate any forward movement at all. What you see as your deeper moral conviction is appearing to be a disaffected condescension. People who are happy had the most at stake.

5) the hondy lounge au drawing

hodgson/le vesconte, 60s pianist/lounge singer au

came to me like a fucking fever dream. spent like three hours drawing it, re-did hodge’s face at least four times, ripped the color palette from a ds9 screencap. i love this au as if it’s my own child.

4) shall warmer, sweeter be

crozier/fitzjames, canon era - post-rescue, trans wlw croz & fitz, self-acceptance

i have LONG wanted to write some lesbians for this fandom. my friend suggested trans lesbians fitzier cairn walk for the free space in my terror bingo, and i got around to writing a fic for it. the two things i wanted to accomplish were 1) to write a fic with trans women fitzjames and crozier 2) without using The Dress as the signifier of trans-ness. it’s not for me to say how well i accomplished it, but it was satisfying to write.

3) so it goes

bridgens/peglar & crozier/fitzjames, 1970s au, writer!bridgens, grief

 a very long fic, by my standards-- the longest fic i’ve published to ao3 so far. it took me a long time to write, and i was really unsure about the format, but it turned out as something i’m proud of having written. i really liked writing a setting that was so different from the canon era, as well as having the main character interactions that drive the fic be bridgens and crozier.

2) goodbyes fade away

this is the most deliberate fic i’ve written. by that, i mean that it’s got a tight construction-- i went back and forth a bunch of times regarding use of tenses and where to space the flashbacks. i think it’s my most popular terror fic, but i’d have to double check that. i think it’s got the most, like, meaning per words of any of my fics, at least.

1) in the mood for a melody

crozier/fitzjames, modern au, misunderstandings re: relationship statuses, office karaoke

it’s a fucking comedy! from me! revolutionary! i wrote this in like four days, and one of those was a break! i’m 99% certain i wrote this to prove to my friend (free space bingo square friend) that i didn’t always write sad sad death death and look at it. just look at it.

i’m tagging any and all kois who feel like doing this-- we’ve made a ton of stuff to be proud of, and it’s been a fantastic time to see the things you people post that you’re working on.

I thought a honeyguide, a bird that is known for leading humans to bee’s nests so they can benefit from the human cracking it open, (although this specific species doesn’t do that but whatever, I liked its colours best!) would be a good storyteller! He has the mystical ability to see beyond the fabled fourth wall……

Trying to figure out this whole ‘screen tone’ business…… featuring Eris.

In my world of animals, offspring are always the same species as the parent that births them (unless the parents can produce cross-bred or genetic hybrid children). But sometimes, very very rarely, if both parents have had a full-blood dragon among their ancestors at some point, an egg-laying parent might find that their egg hatches into a baby dragon!

These ‘genetic legacy dragons’ won’t grow as large or live as long as a full-blooded dragon would. There are a variety of superstitions surrounding them - in some places they’re considered unlucky, and in others they’re considered a blessing or an honour for their family. Gray has faced mixed reactions her whole life and moved to a sprawling city as an adult so she’d stand out less.

A design that struck me suddenly, with a swift and enlightening blow, while I was playing Elden Ring. I don’t actually have set story ideas in mind for her, but I like this design well enough that I might have to come up with something!
