Almost done, and perfect for posting - a 13-repeat Lost Souls shawl, for Friday the 13th. It is absolutely for sale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to a change in circumstances in the past year, I am in fact counting on the sales of my finished objects for survival. Ask any questions you want. Make me an offer whom I try not to have a panic attack about all the things they found wrong with my vehicle during inspection today.
The yarn is 2/14 alpaca silk.

Good thing of the day: went to the local arts center for the new galleries opening. It was all fiber art and yes there were several exhibits you could touch! I've been to a different fiber themed gallery before and you weren't allowed to touch stuff there and it just feels like a loss. Like half the fun of fiber is that you can touch it, it's a fun sensory thing.
It was mostly sewing and weaving, some felting and knitting/crochet mixed in. 2nd favorite was these weird hanging pods, they looked like cocoons and yes you could touch as long as you weren't too aggressive. I had a lot of fun trying to guess what fibers they used and see if I could recognize any prints/patterns. A lot of stuff was made from found material and it would be crazy if one day someone saw and recognized an old shirt or blanket.
Tumblr media
Favorite piece was easily a quilt called Support System. They had a specific gallery dedicated to neurodivergent artists, and this was the one with the most pieces that you could touch. The quilt was a patchwork of rainbows, starry skies, and notes for the artist from their family and friends. Honestly it made me cry a little, it can be hard to find and surround yourself with people who love and support you, and seeing that experience made into a physical object was sweet.
Tumblr media
Favorite artist was this guy who made quilts, he had an entire little gallery dedicated to him. It was this fun mixture of what is arguably seen as traditionally feminine craft being used to create these masculine motifs. Kinda the vibe I try to go for sometimes but he nailed it better than I do.
Tumblr media
All in all, definitely worth it, but please let me touch more stuff I want to put my hands on ~everything~

You know you into yarn when you have headcanons about what spindles characters would particularly like, what they prefer to do with the yarn, what type of wheel spinner they are, and who has 17 projects going on at once (Anakin) vs who’s gonna focus almost entirely on one project as they go through thought spindle spinning a fine yarn, plying and washing enough of it for a blanket, immediately sticking it on the loom, and weaving a particularly intricate pattern (Obi-Wan) vs who’s the ‘I add the knots of silk and locks so that I can live in the moment and let chunks come out when they need to’ (as if I even have to say it, it’s Qui-Gon)-
ANYWAYS. I actually love yarn and think that yarn craft should be more in fics but that’s sorta like how lots of chefs and bakers make a lot of foodie fics like it’s nice but. Everyone eats. Not enough people care about Scottish spindles. Obi-Wan has 7 Scottish spindles and like 8 Turkish ones so he can make a blanket’s worth of yarn in a single go without having to unwind them and ply right away. Qui-Gon likes supported spindles and a traditional wheel. Anakin designs and makes his own electric spinners, electric yarn counters, and electric cone winders. And then he knits Padme shawls. Qui-Gon crochets blankets and keeps leaving them in the creche or outside random apartments in the temple. Obi-Wan weaves. Anakin spent 5 hours learning how to dye fiber in Padme’s favorite colours, made an electric wool carder to make batts of them, spent a solid 15 hours spinning enough for a massive shawl in lace weight yarn for his wife, knit her one, and then went back to his ADHD project hopping.
I have ideas!!!!!!

I made a tiny cat for my friend's birthday
Tumblr media
It was more trial and error than I would've liked, but she came out ok.
I tried with black yarn first since she likes black cats the most, but it just wasn't gonna happen. I couldn't see a thing and even if I got it done somehow you wouldn't be able to see more than a weird black blob
Any ideas for a name that's not Smokey or Mustafa?

A couple months ago I took some time to make myself an Amigurumi- a very rare occurrence - and made a Mosscreep from Hollow Knight!
The sculpting of the fluff to create the bushy-like-textured body was very tedious, but I'm extremely happy with my little sentient moss and he looks so good on my Hollow Knight shrine.
I do not sell my patterns.

So, a while back, I started designing a shawl inspired by the City of Tears in the game Hollow Knight. I originally used a colorway I got from @exlibrisfibers on IG that was discontinued on a base that was discontinued (the smaller, lighter version in the last four photos), and while I absolutely loved the perfectly moody color scheme… not enough yarn. So I reached back out to Rita to see if I could get the colorway special in a similar base, and boy did she deliver.
The final, absolutely massive version is on her Anaïs merino/silk base and the drape is absolutely divine. It feels like spider silk, which is so perfect for a shawl inspired by a game plumbing the depths of an ancient bug kingdom. It's moody and melancholic, like the rain-filled cavern of the dead City of Tears, with its leanly arched windows, ornately spiked elevators, and elegant, sleek-pillared corridors with sentry husks still patrolling with empty carapaces—all elements that are represented in motif panels in the shawl.
It calls for somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000-1100 yards of fingering weight single ply, and should result in a wingspan of about 58"-60"/147cm-152cm.
Biggest thanks to Rita of Ex Libris Fibres, for feeding both my addiction to amazingly soft yarns with brilliant colorways and my love of good books (and book recommendations), and to Team Cherry (@TeamCherryGames on twitter) for creating and sharing with the world a game that has become one of my absolute favorites that contains not just stunningly gorgeous art and delightful-feeling movements and mechanics, but also a layered and complex story and world that is one I love to revisit over and over again.
This is a pattern I'd love to eventually translate into something others can follow, among a small handful of others, especially if there's interest. I'll be sure to share it here if I ever get around to doing so.

Feel free to say why/why not and what your ideal scarf is in the tags! Tis summer but sometimes I miss the abundance of scarves I wear in the fall and winter, hence this poll.
