a tip for people with trichotillomania: if youre looking for an alternate activity to replace hair pulling, you should consider getting into textile art, something like weaving - especially forms of weaving that you can do anywhere:
crochet
lacemaking (crochet, but smaller)
hand weaving
weaving on a hand loom
ive been struggling with trich for a long time and none of the many alternate activities and stim toys ive tried have helped or stuck for long - but weaving has been a huge game changer for me because by weaving i'm giving myself the "pulling" sensation that i'm seeking without pain or shame, PLUS i get the satisfaction of having a lovely art piece at the end!
despite what the internet will tell you, weaving is actually very cheap and easy to pick up if youre physically able to do it, have access to some kind of yarn, thread, paper, or grass, and if youre willing to make mistakes.
this fall/winter im planning on making a guide on how to get started weaving for beginners, and i'll post it on here when i do. in the meantime feel free to send me questions and i'll respond when i can :)
terms to google if you're interested:
weaving in the round
picture frame loom
peg loom diy nails
diy friendship bracelet cardboard loom
basic crochet chain (you'll probably want a video for this, it's hard to communicate crochet through words or pictures)
other forms of textile art that might help:
knitting
sewing (clothing, stuffed animals, curtains, bedding...)
embroidery (you can make patches!)
rug making
quilting (most people nowadays use a sewing machine, but you can do it by hand too!)

Hunter head canons #4
These head canons focus on Hunter home life. They next one will focus on Hunter life in Gravefield in general.
After the finale I imagine Hunter actually staying in the Human realm for bit since things would be pretty chaotic in the demon realm. Especially regarding the Emperors coven. Realistically I can’t imagine many witches or demons happy with the ex Golden Guard, Belos right hand man walking around freely, especially with emotions running high. You know almost being killed then having the collector take over, then almost being killed again.
Just imagine all the legal and ethic issues, (will get to this another time)
Camila basically being Hunter’s mom now. I personally don’t think Darius should be Hunter parental figure. I think Hunter should be with someone who hasn’t harmed him, especially after years of trauma and another major traumatic experience happening to him (looking at you Thanks to them). Hunter can reconnect and be friends with Darius another time. I also think Darius would be more focused fixing the demon realm then accommodate Hunters needs. Right now Hunter needs a guardian that will give him what he needs.
Anyways
Once hunter moves into the Human realm, I imagine Vee staying with him in the basement for a while since he’s afraid of being alone. (Everyone is scared of leaving him alone too). I imagine they develop a close bond with each other, different from how they bond with others, since they are both basically Belos, abused, illegal creations. After awhile they trust him to be alone.
Luz often stays at the demon realm and on those nights, Vee and Hunter swap rooms. Vee liking the basement due to how open it is and Hunter liking to smaller room. I imagine Hunter liking cramped, smaller spaces like closets due to how open the throne room was. Vee liking open spaces due to being forced into cages. Vee probably also constantly keeps doors open and probably showers with the door open too. (Might do some Vee head canons too!)
Mirrors had to be covered for a bit due to Hunter being unable to stand the sight of himself again. They teach him how to love himself again like how he did in “Thanks to them”. Though they do sometimes catch him staring deeply at his scars or brown eyes.
Him a Vee are often spotted hanging out with each other, with Vee often leaning on Hunter. When on the couch she’ll rest on him or lay her head on his lap. In return, during the sleep overs, Vee will curl around Hunter. I imagine Hunter being both a big and little spoon.
Hunter often goes to bed with Camila on bad nights. After all he never received that comfort before in the castle. He’s hesitant at first due to being “too old” to be resting with an adult. Camila insist that no one is to big for their moms. Hunter definitely doesn’t cry at this.
Different bonding stuff with Hunter Noceda :)
We all know that Darius taught Hunter to sew properly and it ended up becoming a hobby of his. Camila sees this a teaches Hunter to knit as well. Soon Hunter is knitting all sorts of things like beanies, sweaters, bags, etc. Hunter learns other crafts like crocheting, embroidery, weaving, ect. That boy is very crafty.
Camila shows that Hunter doesn’t just need to sew cloths but that he can also sew things like stuff animals, clothes for animals, and other neat stuff. He quickly becomes obsessed with making clothes and accessories for Palismen
Hunter starts volunteering at the Vet clinic and animal shelter with Vee and Camila and quickly realizes he has a bit of a affinity with Animals..
Hunter and Vee both like watching TV and bond together that way. They both like horror due to them being a bit desensitized but won’t watch films that focus on torture (saw sequels, hostel, ect) but they do like 90s and 80s horror. However they stoped watching Horror that has to due with possession after the ‘incident.’ They also like comedies though Hunter gets confused by the jokes and Vee has to explain it to him (even if she also doesn’t understand, she tries).
Hunter and Camila bond with 70s and 80s punk rock music. Bands like Green Day, Sex Pistols, Misfits, ect. Luz introduces him to the world of fandom music like FNAF or BATIM and he quickly becomes hooked. Also vocaloid. Vee likes metal and shows him all sorts of genres and songs, from alternative metal like Korn and System of the down to death metal like Cannibal corpse and Carcass. He prefers Punk but will happily listen to the music with her.
Hunter manages to drag Camila back into her Cosmic Frontier addiction.
They all go to cons together! Comic con, Anime con, sci fi con, ect. They do family cosplays!
Luz and Hunter draw together. Luz is surprised to see Hunter can actually sketch pretty good. He isn’t very good with fine details or color but he drew stuff in journals relating to wild magic, flapjack, Belos and battle plans. He good at sketching buildings, beasts, and plants. He can draw witches forms real good but struggles in finer details like faces, clothes, ect. Unlike luz’s character heavy art. While luz draws with pencils, markers, color pencils, and acrylic paints. Hunter is a charcoal, ink, and color pencil and water color type if guy. He draws a lot of animals, especially wolves. He makes to many wolf oc’s. He has folders full of drawings and extensive lore on them. Luz teaches him how to make drawings expressive, in return he teaches her how to draw buildings. They make collaborative art with Hunter doing the backgrounds and Luz adding characters.
Luz gets hunter hooked on Warrior cats and Balto.
Luz and Hunter exercise together. Or at least try to. Luz as she got used to an active life style in the boiling isles and Hunter due to being used to vigorous training. However this oftentimes turned into ‘Hunter basically torturing Luz’ session as he can be intense. Like getting up at 5:30 am and being like “you wanna run 6 miles with me” or “lets do 20 circuits”. Luz at first tries keeping up at first in disbelief before noticing Hunter also tends to overwork himself during these sessions. After a while she and the others convince him he doesn’t need to due all this, especially if it’s hurting him. Soon he starts waking up at 6:20 am and works out in a easier way to maintain. He and Luz are now able to go on comfortable jogs and hikes together.
Luz teaches Hunter and Vee how to ride bikes after realizing neither of them could. Hunter takes his bike safely very seriously.
Camila teaches Hunter to drive and he gets very excited as it’s like flying a ship. The whole family often go on drives together and blast on music.
Hunter becomes a history nerd with both Human history from do research on Gravefield and the Demon realm after him and Lilith discover historical text that Belos hid away. Hunter learns more about the history of Grimwalkers rather then just the biology and myths. (Spoiler alert, it’s not a very happy, will dive into it). He tells Lilith a lot about Human realm history. They slowly become friends through info dumping.
Hunter learning how to cook with Camila. He makes food for his friends and family! He’s decent at first, after all this guy definitely had survival training. He probably knows how to gut and skin certain beasts. Likely offered to do it for Camila when she talked about needing to buy food. She kindly declined his offer.
Hunter loves Camila’s cooking, he never had such homemade meals. He often had MRE’s or fancy cooked meals when attending dinner with Belos sometimes. Those were hit or miss. Sometimes going great or sometimes ending with him being poisoned or abused in some sort of way. When Luz says she wants fast food, Hunter is like “why? Mo- Camilas food is so good”. He loves his mamas cooking
Hunter making stuff animals infused with herbs and flowers (like lavender) and potions for calming effects. He makes them for his family and friends. He even starts selling some in the demon realm when tensions calm down.
That’s if for now lol. Sorry for any spelling or grammar issues I’ll edit this in the future.

Is doing your pumpkin embroidery very different from doing cross stitch? How do you manage the starts and ends of thread?
First up remember I'm an absolute beginner, this is my first embroidery project other than a tiny little lavender pouch I made years ago, this is the embroidery in question.
Tumblr media
For me it's quite different as I'm very used to my crafts involving methodical counting, measuring and simple repetitive actions (cross stitch, blackwork, knitting, crochet, sewing, tablet weaving ect), but embroidery is...different. I described it in my stream when I first started this project as "chaos". It's taking my brain some getting used to the idea that I don't have to worry about tying knots and jumping around on the back as I'm used to aida and linen where you can see that through the fabric.
With that said, that's exactly what I'm doing, I'm tying knots, I'm making sure to keep the knots as small as possible, I do miss my loop starts though. For ending the thread I'm basically looping through the back of the last stitch and tying it in two little knots.

Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides knitting? What are they, and did learning to knit come before or after learning these other crafts?
Okay, there’s no way this is gonna be a complete list because I know so many kinds of crafts.
Before I learned to knit, I already knew, at a minimum, sewing, dyeing, spinning, the very basics of crochet, some simple weaving techniques, embroidery, a few different kinds of jewelry making, pine needle baskets, and almost certainly some other stuff too.
After getting the hang of knitting more or less, I picked up a lot more complex techniques in sewing, dyeing, crochet, and weaving, some very basic wood working, as well as getting a wholeass undergraduate degree in ceramics, learning a fair bit about oil painting, and most recently picking up bobbin lace.  Again, I am 100% sure I’m forgetting things here.
Making stuff out of other stuff is my whole life.  It’s basically all I do or think about ever.  I really wanna learn needle felting next.

Some Introductions and Intentions
Life has a strange way sometimes to make you feel like a path is your calling and then years later upending everything you associated with your identity and forging it anew.
Let me explain – for the majority of my life I’ve been an artist by calling. Specifically, I was an illustrator. I painted digitally, and sometimes traditionally, and focused on people. Expressive pieces that were rich with color and emotions, I liked to tell a story. For a very long time I was moving towards the goal of being a professional, of making it my career. Then when I was a breath away from doing so, I crumpled under the pressure and just… didn’t.
I’m not sure if it was the pressure of working under a timeline, or the management part, or maybe the self promotion; but I couldn’t continue. I felt like a fraud calling myself an artist, and eventually that ended too.
Unfortunately, for myself, I had been calling myself an artist my whole life. I had a *Plan* and doing illustration full time was very much my goal. I didn’t know what to do with myself without my painting being there, I didn’t know who I was. Between painting, which was sometimes an on-and-off exercise, I had been exploring other hobbies. I was quite known for it, looking at a new hobby to explore and learn and then obsess over for three months and then dropping it. Gardens flourished and then wilted, my kitchen has gadgets I’ll probably never touch again, my iPad is mostly relegated to reading these days, or a very fancy cat bed. I’ve gone through video games and books, cooking and instruments, painting, sculpting, pottery, makeup, hair, sciences, teas… I’ve covered a lot of ground. But I always thought that Illustration was what, or who, I was.
Realizing that everything I had built myself around was something I couldn’t do was life altering.
A two year gap of madness happened, and I had to reevaluate – everything.
What came out of the other side of my gap year was a couple of different things.
An understanding of the difference between something that is a hobby and something that is a passion.
A dissolution of self identity tied to other’s, or even my own expectations.
Peace
I found peace with myself, and also with my life. I realized that I was pursuing art because it was something I was good at, but not something I was passionate about.
What I am passionate about is what this blog will be focusing on.
Fiber
When I was 15 I was asked to learn how to crochet so that the fiber category had a submission for the local art fair. My art teacher taught me the basics of crochet and then let me figure the rest out. A month after I was crocheting hats for friends, I picked up knitting, learning through books in my library and youtube videos online.
Knitting became my on-and-off again hobby until I discovered garments, and then it was game on.
Garments opened up a whole new world of interest that I was fascinated with. I loved the complexity of fiber drape and construction in knitting. I was “free knitting” my own sweaters within the first 6 months. I became part of a local knit group and quickly developed a reputation for going “off pattern”. I devoured books and articles on fiber types and sheep breeds. I played with ease and shaping and made mistakes and loved it all.
In 2022 I went to SAFF and impulse purchased an E-Spinner and the doors fully opened into the fiber world, including the history of the humble spindle.
This passion has developed many branches now, spreading into Historical Fashion and Clothing Making, Weaving, Sewing, Embroidery, Leatherwork… The list could go on.
At the heart of it all is my passion for fiber, and a healthy dose of sustainability.
My intentions with this blog is to document those branches of interest. Where they lead and what I learn, and to ask questions along the way.
And maybe, I can share some of this passion with you.

My grandma taught me to crochet. I also did some of those canvas needlepoint things. I started sewing pillows and blankets for my dollhouse beds, then clothes for my dolls, then clothes for me. I enjoyed bead weaving and beaded jewelry and friendship bracelets, which are usually a variation on knots and weaving.
I taught myself knitting and needle tatting from books as a teen.
I went to a Griffin Dyeworks Retreat in 2004-ish as a knitter and very new spinner on a drop spindle. I left knowing how to use a spinning wheel and a spindle and the basics of natural dyeing. It was mostly SCA people at that time.
I owned Griffin Dyeworks outright from 2015-2022, when we reincorporated as a nonprofit for teaching historic textile arts (which includes promoting indigenous arts and artists).
In the meantime, I’ve learned kumihimo, lucet, naalbinding, sprang, embroidery, cross stitch, warp-face “inkle”weaving, rigid heddle weaving, card weaving, tapestry weaving, and weaving on a back strap loom.
I think that’s everything.
do NOT get into fibre arts!!!! you try one and then all of a sudden you have 10 hobbies and wanna try 10 more

Types of Spells
This post will go over some physical spell types and their structure. These are simply vehicles in which to move your intent and energy from inside you to the universe. This post will not teach you how to actually create or cast a spell. There is more to a spell than the physical aspect.
Tumblr media
This is by no means a complete or authoritative list of spell types and it's a very generic list! This is just a page from my grimoire, take what you please and leave what you will.
Tumblr media
Verbal Spells
Arguably the most basic and simplistic of spells, but powerful nonetheless. You speak or chant your intent into existence. The words you use have power, so it would be wise to do some research on words when doing a verbal spell.
Candle Spells
At their most basic level, these are simply spells involving candles as the main form of sending your intent into the universe (or to a being). You can choose to carve words, symbols, or sigils into the candle; you may also want to anoint it with oils, herbs, or small objects.
Please practice fire safety when doing candle spells!
Sealed Spells
This includes jars, bottles, and other various containers. You could even use an envelope if you’d like. You basically put your spell components into the container and seal it in some way. One popular way of sealing is using wax from candles or even crayons, though you could use stickers, string, or tape if you prefer.
Knot Spells
Tying knots while saying aloud or in your head. You can choose the material, amount of knots and other objects to best support your spell.
The Witches’ ladder can be considered a knot spell. You could consider crochet and knitting types of knot spells as well.
Weaving Spells
This could involve any type of weaving, such as on a loom, sewing, or embroidery. You can use the weaving as a form of meditation or you can use your creation as the object that anchors your spell.
Petition Spells
Either by fire, earth, water, or air. Can also be called written spells.
Write out your desire and burn it, bury it, or toss it into a body of moving water. For air, whisper your desire into the wind you may also use a combination of the elements such as burning the paper and throwing the ashes into the wind.
Be careful to take care of yourself and the environment when doing petition spells. Personally, I think using the paper as compost could be quite useful for certain spells!
Sigil Spells
Draw, carve, or otherwise inscribe your symbol or sigil spell onto an object. This could be used in conjunction with other spell types like petition spells and candle spells.
I understand that there are those who believe that sigils are a tool for a spell and cannot be considered a spell in and of themselves. Personally, I disagree with this as I believe that all that’s really needed with a spell is a person to do the spell and the energy to do it.
The type of spell is not nearly as important as the intent of the spell and the energy put into the spell. The physical aspect of a spell can often help you channel and direct your energy better, so look to this list (or others) to see what kind of spell structure would work best for you!
Feel free to comment or reblog if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions on this list!

Hi, I was wondering if any of the trio knits or crochets? If they do, are there blankets, scarves, and shawles everywhere? Or a yarn shopping/collecting addiction?
Nathan can do some basic repair stitches and darning as one would expect of a soldier, and Vlad sews very well, just, uh, not clothing. (Mad scientist/physician ftw)
Ursula on the other hand is fiber craft mad. Knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, embroidery. It helps pass the time. And she's got a lot of time.

Okay the next time a female character in a movie or a book with a historical setting gets contemptuous about the very IDEA of knowing how to do basic sewing repairs or embroidery, the writer of that scene doesn’t get to buy new clothes for five years. Oh, you think that functional repairs and decorative embellishments are beneath you? Deal with the consequences.
This also goes for weaving, knitting, crocheting, and anything else in the garment world. It’s fine to not enjoy these hobbies, but we are PAST the point where the key to making a woman interesting is to give her traditionally masculine interests and having her shit on traditionally feminine tasks.

WHAT THE HECK THIS BREAKDOWN IS WONDERFULLY CRAZY THANK YOU SO MUCH
I LOOOOOVE talking about quilting so I will gladly give responses to each of this points YES
- first one yes quilting is more of the umbrella term here. if you wanted to get specific with it it’s technically appliqué and piecing. for those not in the fiber fields, appliqué is taking a piece of fabric and putting it on top of another piece of fabric. basically like collage which is the majority of this pillow. piecing is putting the right sides of the fabric together, stitching down the edge, and then unfolding to reveal a nice hidden seam. the piecing for this is the table cloth to the background and the border to the middle. the border itself is a flying geese pattern that i did english paper piecing for. (it’s easier to go look that one up if ur curious but short answer it’s sewing with a piece of paper as your guide) *edit here i have photos of the english paper piecing in progress below if you're curious
- yup it’s about 15 inches or 38 cm square. so that was a hell of a lot of sewing 😅 i’ve been doing this type of work seriously/full time for the last 5 years. there were sooo many pieces that went into that border. and on one of the sides i took the time to be picky about how i was cutting the navy fabric so that the fall desserts were framed in the geese pattern. (i gave up afterwards bc it’s a smaller detail that you can't really see but its there on the border on the right of the complete pillow) here’s the progress photos of that part! i did chain piecing as well so they were all strung together (you can see that in the third photo)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- i loooove to just wing my projects when they don’t need to be specific so the process on this was 1) sketch the design 2) choose the pillow to make a cover for 3) figure out the border size 4) sew together the main background pieces (plaid and brown) 5) make all of the appliqué pieces 6) sew them on either by hand or with machine. the pieces by hand were: leaves, candy, and cookies. (the candy took the most time) and the faces and the chains were embroidery. 7) attach border to middle 8) attach the back of the cover 9) put it on the pillow. the original pillow is a rainbow plaid pillow that i wove on a floor loom. here’s the best photos i found of the pillow on my phone and a photo of the project i’m currently weaving on my loom for a bit of process there too if ur interested. (disclaimer: i made the pillow a few years ago and the cover i made for it is removable so this rainbow pillow isn’t gone forever 😂😅)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- there are lots of different fabrics here! most of them are basic cotton fabric. dreams grey hoodie is from an actual hoodie that i use as fabric for other projects. i like to use a lot of recycled/scrap materials so the faces are from pillow cases that were fraying real bad. dreams cat beanie is actually crocheted! i have made two other 2D crocheted cat beanies in the past for my friend and I to wear to the droncert. i couldn’t find the best photo of them but here’s mine 😂 crocheted with embroidery floss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- the hood and most of those other pieces you are seeing as a backstitch were sewn with a sewing machine. a very small stitch length was needed and it was difficult to follow the side of the pieces accurately
- i was hoping no one would see the faces!! 😂😂😅 i was working on a white table so they looked just fine (the photo above) and then i already started sewing them onto the brown fabric before i realized that i should’ve thrown another fabric behind them 😂 definitely one of those moments
- the candy was definitely a pain 😂 i cut out the individual candies and hand sewed them all on there bc they were just toooo tiny for machine sewing to look good on them. they actually came from the same fabric as the cookies too! this photo you can see the individual candies laid out. i also did fold over all of the candies 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- exactly that for patches eyes! i figured it’d be held on together well enough to not have to go through that extra headache of folding them. here’s a photo that has patches without her full eyes. i ended up doing the same for dream and georges hair. too many curves that'd make it look messier than if i were to just let it fray a lil bit
Tumblr media
- i have no idea exactly which fabric it is for patches. i found that fabric with a wild dye pattern on it and thought it would work great for patches. i tried to find a section that had the white going down the middle of her face too. you can see in the second photo some of the extra fabric in the top left corner of the image
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- the pumpkin is layered exactly like you said and is actually done by machine! they’ve got a stitch that makes that weird zig zag to it. i used stitch #9 for it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- and yes leaves by hand! i ended up putting the exact stitch and color up for a vote here a while back so thank you to whoever voted there 😂 i did the brown thread with a blanket stitch. the same stitch is used with purple thread on the cookies. (*edit i think thats actually not the blanket stitch for the purple. i think i realized you can't see the blanket part of it so its just the horizontal stitched there) my sewing machine had some weird tension issues with the bobbin so the zig zag stitch ended up looking pretty rough. the three photos at the bottom are the sample ones with the blanket stitch, zig zag stich, and invisible stitch in that order
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- all in all i have no idea just how long this took me 😅 definitely a ridiculously long amount of time. somewhere over 20 hours probably over a span of a week or so?
i absolutely loooooove doing this type of work though so while it was a nightmare to work through at some parts, i’m suuuuper happy with how it turned out and love the process anyways!
and holy shit thank YOU so much again for this breakdown!!! my jaw dropped when i saw it!!! i'd love to keep talking about this stuff so please send questions or comments my way if you want to talk more fibers things even beyond this pillow!
happy halloween @pennotfound !!
✨🎃✨👻✨🎃✨
for your gift, here’s dnf celebrating halloween together! they made halloween cookies, have a bowl of dteam colored candy, and carved a pumpkin (with help from patches of course).
i’m a fiber artist so this was all quilted and stitched into a pillow case! complete with a tiny crocheted cat beanie for dream and the iconic chains. more photos and detailed photos below the cut :)
thank you @sappymix1 for putting this exchange together!

rant warning ahead, i have a lot of thoughts about this au. it’s probably gonna get pretty sewing-nerd-y too so be prepared lol
first up: tools. i imagine that very talented stitchworkers don’t need tools, but most stitchers (or unstitchers) do. things like needles, looms, you get the idea. probably not real needles, more metaphysical, but my point still stands. there are all sorts of different needles depending on the craft and the user’s persona style. WAIT what about things like sewing machines?? like maybe they could exist but since stitching is yknow, illegal and all that, i’m not sure. idk but its definitely A Concept that would be very fun to dive into.
also! knots! if someone were to be taught stitching, (which i feel like at least one person on the hermitcraft server is currently being taught), i think that they would definitely start with knots. connecting two pieces of reality but only at the corner seems like a great way to teach a beginner. i think you probably could just use knots as your main form of stitching but it takes more effort. also also back to the whole “you’re either born with magic or you’re not“ thing. consider: a lot of people are born with it, but most don’t know they have the ability. theyve never tried, never even considered it because of how much it’s frowned upon. developing an ability you didn’t know you had takes time, but having someone experienced to help you along certainly helps.
obviously there are different types of fabric when it comes to stitching irl, so how would this translate to the AU? think how some types of fabric frays very easily, but how some doesn’t fray at all. some fabric rips, some doesn’t, some stretches, some doesn’t, etc.
different! stitches! are! definitely! a! thing! like backstitches are for bigger projects or stuff more likely to get ripped or unstitched because they’re more sturdy, whipstitches are for the finishing details or the edges of a project, (also for embroidery-style stitching), running stitches are more practical and less precise, etc. i would absolutely keep going with different stitches but i don’t wanna get too too ranty lol
strands vs. threads: another thing that people who don’t sew probably won’t know!! basically one thread has six strands and you can separate them depending on how thick you want the line of string to be. so like, 6 strand sewing is for big projects, and two strand sewing is for tiny in-reality adjusments. stuff like changing jellie’s fur pattern to mess with scar or drying a wet sponge. (one strand sewing isn’t a thing, your thread will rip. use this information how you will.)
patches! most reality patches are made of the same material as the original, but there are definitely some stitchers who prefer to make flashy noticeable patches made of way different material that stands out. put a patch of the nether in a spot where the overworld reality tore. you get the point.
different styles of stitching! i know this has already been brought up but i want to go more in-depth with it.
cleo’s stitching is ABSOLUTELY embroidery. there’s literally no question about it. i feel like grian stitches with both embroidery and knots. Im thinking xB felts. idk why. mumbo is probably still learning but i think he would mostly just use sewing. scar can practically do it all, he’s a jack of all trades type. his go-to is sewing though. i know you already said x and ex work best with knitting, but honestly i think crochet suits them better. zedaph probably works with lace-sewing best. (is there an actual word for that? i feel like there is.) stress weaves.
random thing that i just thought up: certain hairstyles are associated with stitchworkers, and can be used as signals. the most obvious one is a braid/braids, especially for weavers, because well. its practically just weaving except with hair. stuff like doing hair can also help people hone in on their craft because yes.
told you it’d get rant-y. this is the shortened version. i have adhd ok
i love this. i love many elements of this and will definitely possibly maybe sssstteaalborrow them. XD

169. How good are they at recreational art (knitting, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, woodworking, carpentry)? 170. How good are they at writing/poetry? 172. Do they have a hidden talent they don't even know about? 173. What is a skill they really want to learn? 174. What was their childhood like? What about their adolescence? 175. Do they have any happy childhood memories, whether they remember or not?
Ooh! These are some good ones! Thank you for asking!
From Apprentice OC Questionnaire!
169) How good are they at recreational art (knitting, sewing, crocheting, woodworking, carpentry)?
Vida is proficient enough in sewing to mend their own clothes, but they can’t cross-stitch or weave fabric.
They can do some basic knitting projects with only a few dropped stitches. Blankets and scarves are all oversized because sometimes they want to keep making an item without actually finishing it. (The gloves/mittens and socks usually have to be a specific size for the recipient so they’re better with finishing these properly)
Vida can’t crochet or do much actual handiwork around the house without “cheating” with magic.
They can draw and paint figures, still lifes, and landscapes well, but don’t ask them to sculpt unless you want a really lumpy ashtray that looks like someone punched it before or went on the kiln.
170) How good are they at writing/poetry?
Not as good as they are at reading and analyzing! They like wordplay and will sometimes go out of the way to build a joke stanza to hit a punchline they thought of. It’s kind of mediocre, but their partners (mostly) support them.
172) Do they have a talent they don’t even know about?
They can play a few instruments! The violin and concertina specifically. (We’ll pretend this fantasy world discovered concertinas a few centuries earlier than we did)
173) What is a skill they really want to learn?
Oddly enough, playing an instrument! Vida’s very envious of Julian and Nadia’s abilities. They also want to learn more languages for the same reason.
174) What was their childhood like? What about their adolescence?
Vida was in a hurry to grow up. They wanted to be taken seriously instead of being seen as a “precocious little girl”. They grew up in relative comfort and privilege with a loving family, but they would often bicker with their younger siblings. They were always reading and had to be bribed to go outside. (“You can take your book with you, but you HAVE to read in the garden. No sneaking back in.”)
Adolescence was turbulent. They were the oldest and had the most restrictions and expectations. While they never wanted to go out, they had to be the babysitter for their younger siblings, who were all more popular. They are often punished for talking back and eventually started bottling up their emotions to avoid punishment. This was okay for a while until they went to university and they got so angry and a faculty member they set their house on fire.
175) Do they have any happy memories, whether they remember them or not?
A lot of their happiest memories are with their mom. Their birthdays are a few days apart, so they’d celebrate the whole week together. There are also a few memories of Nica braiding Vida’s hair while they braid Alma’s and Alma would d braid her doll’s hair.
They also have fond memories of being a child sitting in on their dad’s university lectures. They didn’t understand a lot of it, but being in a large classroom with other students while their dad would talk animatedly about history is one of the pivotal moments in their life.
There’s also them running around with Asra and Muriel as part of Los Expósitos. Sneaking into the theaters with food, running through the streets, swimming in the lakes and ocean, and just being rambunctious teens.

What Is Embroidery And What Are The Main Types Of Embroidery?
If we want to define it in the simplest way, we can say that embroidery is the artisan technique by which textile pieces are decorated with the help of a needle and using a thread. However, there is much more to say about the importance of this technique. What was traditionally dismissed as a minor creative activity is now recognized as an artistic expression. Learn more about this exciting activity, which you can start practicing right now.
What are the main types of embroidery?
Embroidery has a long history and it is amazing to discover that it has been present in practically every culture in the world for centuries. Although the techniques may vary, some stitches are almost universal and the principle of needle use is almost always the same. Embroidery almost certainly derived from sewing. Before the industrialization of textiles, people made their garments by hand, with the help of needle and thread. At some point, the interest arose to decorate the garments, to denote certain social aspects or to reflect the personality as a means of expression.
The arrival of industrialization and the looms
The arrival of industrialization affected the world of embroidery. The Jacquard loom (a power loom invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801) wove complex brocade and damask patterns with a punched card system, precursors to the first data systems used from telegraphs to the first computers. This machine revolutionized the industry and accelerated the production of embroidery which, until then, was painstaking and very laborious work.
Later, the Schiffli embroidery machine would complete the automation process, until the hands were no longer necessary for embroidery. Twinkle Industries is the pioneer in producing high-quality Schiffli embroidery fabric at affordable prices and according to your custom demand. From nylon laces to embroidery laces, you can purchase genuine fabric online at Twinkle Industries.
Most popular embroidery types
In general, you can start embroidering right away with a free technique if you know the most basic stitches. If you want to follow some of the more elaborate techniques, in this article we compile some of them. Some of the most popular techniques are –
Cross-stitch: Typically on an Aida fabric, cross-shaped stitches are created that form the design. Contemporary examples recreate pixel art by the square finish of each stitch.
Embroidered relief: With slightly more complex decorative stitches, you can add volume to your embroidery.
Needle Painting: It is a technique with which great realism is achieved. Imagine that your needle is a brush and the thread is paint, you will use painting and drawing techniques to compose images.
Painting and embroidery: You can mix textile paint, with materials such as watercolor or acrylic, to create spectacular pieces on fabric that you paint by hand.
Miniature embroidery: It is a trend in which pieces of even millimeters are created.
What materials do I need to start embroidering?
Needle
The most essential material is the needle. You can find needles in many sizes and types, but it's a good idea to start with special embroidery needles, known simply as embroidery needles. There are specific needles for different embroidery techniques –
 · Crewel embroidery needle: It is a type of embroidery with wool.
·  Punch needle or magic needle: It embroiders quickly creating rich textures.
· Kantian needle: A special needle for this technique that creates textures.
· French embroidery: It is used to add beads or rhinestones, very typical of haute couture dresses. Beads can also be added without using this needle.
Depending on the material you use, you will want to experiment with needles of different sizes.
Thread
There are specially made threads for embroidery. The best known is the cotton embroidery thread, which comes in six strands. You can separate the strands depending on the finish you want to achieve. Cotton pearl thread is also widely used in embroidery, and is characterized by its shiny, polished finish. It is manufactured in different thicknesses. You can also embroider with wool, rayon, silk, metallic finish threads. In any embroidery supply store you will see the wide variety of materials and colors.
Frame
A great idea, especially if you are a beginner, is to use a hoop. It allows you to create tension in the fabric, so that your stitches are secured in it. An advantage of the hoop is that you can use it directly to decorate your walls with your embroidered pieces.
Cloth
The best things to start with are cotton fabrics and other natural fibers. You don't want to start one with a weave that is too tight or too loose. A popular fabric is the Aida, typical of cross-stitch embroidery. Also many people choose fabrics made of silk, felt, canvas, linen and wool. You can embroider on practically any type of fabric.
Embroidery and its uses in garments and decoration
By pure thread and stitch, embroidery is added to all kinds of garments. Just as Crochet Laces were the rage at one time, today embroidered fabrics are stomping on stained glass, especially on shirts and dresses. They have become a distinctive detail. The arrival of spring and the heat only means one thing: buying a mini dress with embroidery is a good investment for those moments when you need to shine and be the most chic of a party, cocktail or meeting at work. Also the pants will add embroidery to your designs. They will be seen a lot in jeans and also in other genres.
If you dare to embroider it yourself, remember to buy threads that do not fade, so that the garment is not ruined. The hand-embroidered shirts will be the star of this season. They will be seen a lot on different types of fabric in white and light blue, and also in super intense tones. If we are a little afraid of embroidery on clothes or do not know how to combine it with our style, a good option is to resort to purses, bags, wallets or other accessories with some embroidery. Embroidery is also going strong in decoration. The revaluation of craftsmanship makes more and more people want to put their stamp on different objects, such as pillows, squares, towels, curtains, tablecloths and placemats, etc.
Like Embroidery fabric, modern garments industries also fond to Lycra Fabrics.Buy genuine quality fabrics from Twinkle Industries.

thoughts on which cc characters would take up which fibre crafts?
ooh BOY okay i have many thoughts about this!! here goes:
harry: this boy is a bad knitter. he tries, god love him, and he got molly to teach him the basics (because hermione is even worse than him and is a confusing teacher) so he occasionally tries to make hats or socks and they are inevitably full of holes
ginny: not a crafter. i think she's so much of a tomboy that she would have resisted all attempts from molly to get her into crafts and then never picked them up as an adult either (not that i believe crafts should be gendered at all but you know, she was raised by molly weasley in the 90s, so)
james: unexpectedly fond of cross-stitch, which he picked up from a girlfriend in his mid-teens
albus: i think albus would be into a proper arty craft like embroidery, he'd find a basic sewing kit somewhere and start playing around with it in private, never learning the 'official' techniques. he'd stitch on paper and torn scraps of fabric and make wobbly, very personal patches and things that he'd never show to anyone (except maybe scorpius when they were out of school and he'd had a few beers)
lily: not a very consistent crafter, but i think she'd pick up knitting much easier than her dad and make scarves, blankets etc when she was in the mood
scorpius: a crochet boi. always has a project on the go, always searching for new yarns and new patterns
draco: doesn't like to get his hands dirty, so he has an elaborate magical loom set up at the manor and weaves elaborate jacquard patterns
astoria: where do you think scorpius learned to crochet
hermione: absolutely zero crafting skill
ron: very practical, a fixer. inherited his mum's magical sewing machine and mends/darns clothing and knitwear for the family
rose: not enough patience for crafts; she tried sewing one time, broke the needle and then immediately gave up
hugo: macrame. enough said
trolley witch: finger knitting

How To Gain Painted Portraits Of Pets
It’s genuine that our kids’ fiber-craft e book Stitch Camp is chock-full of boredom-busters and presents youngsters could make, and people are tremendous reasons to — income pitch alert! — purchase it on your children. But there’s additionally a larger, deeper case for youngsters crafting, and it’s this: those who do meaningful matters with their arms are happier than people who don’t.Visit us for  painted portraits of pets.
Tumblr media
I’m now not announcing this most effective primarily based on, say, my experience of my own grandma clicking her knitting needles contentedly, stopping best to sip from a nearby cup of tea. Or based totally on my experience of my very own youngsters sitting fortunately with an embroidery task, drifting in and out of communique the way you do even as you’re parallel crafting with a person. Or based totally by myself revel in of bone-deep satisfaction from the easy darning of a sock. I suggest, sure — all of these items — but also: science! The type accomplished by using scientists.
Like Kelly Lambert, a neuroscientist who has written an entire ebook in this problem. Her argument is that when you do meaningful work with your hands, your brain rewards you with feel-appropriate dopamine and serotonin. These satisfied neurochemicals are natural antidepressants, and we’ve evolved to launch them while we do some thing handy; this sort of paintings enables maintain us alive, and our brains need to bribe us to stay alive. Chopping wood, preparing meals, constructing a domestic. But additionally, sewing, crocheting, making things, mending things are all activities that your brain translates as live-maintaining (it doesn’t recognize which you’re making a beanbag as opposed to, say, a warm temperature-preserving coat) and it rewards you generously. Make some thing. Feel good. Period.
We can bypass the counter-instance, that you recognise already — telephones, screens, social media, and so on, which your mind translates basically as noise and distraction and meaningless time, which it'll refuse to praise you for. Who ever puts down their smartphone with a deep feeling of delight after watching YouTube skateboard-fail motion pictures? (Spoiler: no one.) But making something along with your arms? That’s where it’s at. Learning competencies, fixing troubles, taking some time, and getting into a chilled click on-clack rhythm along with your knitting needles or a meditative returned-and-forth along with your weaving. Kids need greater of that. We all do.
And, thankfully, it’s also crazily amusing. So no — you don’t want to sell your children at the effective-psychology perspective of crafting. You don’t even want to mention it, due to the fact that crafting sells itself with all of the cool things you can make and do. But you can stand with the aid of to help them analyze, to inspire them to unplug and take their time, to recognize that they’re engaged in an activity that offers way, way extra than it takes.
One aspect my co-writer Nicole and I love approximately fiber crafts is that they’re amusing to do in a completely solitary, quietly considerate way and that they’re a laugh to do with a friend or even a set of pals. Informal craft events and get-togethers are first rate pleasant, and they can be in particular outstanding for mastering new abilities, asking questions, and getting help with a assignment.
We additionally advocate that kids bring their assignment with them wherever they cross, in part as it’s fulfilling to tug out a few knitting even as awaiting the orthodontist (hello, time no longer wasted!), and partly because they'll turn out to be within the organization of a person who is aware of loads about it.
We should confess: we adore our ebook, and we’ve done our very high-quality to make the instructions clear, but there may be nonetheless no alternative for mastering these abilities from a actual, live human. Siblings, mother and father, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, instructors, babysitters, counselors, and buddies are the finest assets younger makers have got. Encourage them to ask round to peer who knows how to do what — and feature them ask that character to percentage their understanding! It’s one of the great ways to study, and it gives an exquisite risk to deepen relationships.
