Critical Role: Campaign 1, episode 1: Arrival at Kraghammer rewatch (Part 3)

Live commenting on Twitter somehow seems easier than commenting on Tumblr for some reason.

Rooms are negotiated. “I was told there would be no math.” Grog shows off his scar in the middle of his chest (possibly from his near death experience that Pike saved him from?). His drinking dwarven buddies love it, although Adra the owner of the bar is a little more taken aback.

There was a halfling a few weeks back who got into some fights who was staying at the Firebrook Inn. “I like that one.”

The champion fighter Balgus is asleep drunk.  LIAM: “Save it for a rainy day.” TRAVIS:  “Does it rain down here?” TALIESIN:  “I don’t think they have rainy days.”

I just noticed Gil in chat is complimenting that Matt actually has a stein. (Everyone else is drinking out of bottled waters this first episode). I’m so glad that they got rid of chat in the videos but there are some interesting historical artifacts in them when you pay attention.

Something is going on down in the mines and caves. Goblins...Sam/Scanlan becomes intent, but also something more...

MATT: Okay. Do you have on your person any sort of thieves' tools?

SAM: I have a forgery kit, a poisoner's kit--

MARISHA: Forge some thieves' tools real quick.

SAM: Climbing gear? And a whip.

LIAM: Matt, I have one of the earrings, and I say: Scanlan, what exactly is the purpose for this little escapade, and will it be ending shortly?

SAM: Can I reply?

MATT: You can, through the message-based ear enchantment.

SAM: Just trust me that I have no idea what I'm doing.

Episode 1: Arrival at Kraghammer

-can you fuckin imagine the expression on Vax, party-rogue's face when he watches the dumbass gnome turn invisible and wander into the back rooms of the mansion, without any apparent means of getting further

-overall I liked Scanlan a lot more than I thought I would, I think because his player is willing to let him fail instead of making him a vehicle for snappy oneliners. Also I love a bard who can accidentally end up doing the most damage in the party

-"how about we just say we're brother and sister, creepy?" Is a wholeass sibling mood

-Percy is a very sweet boy

Finally getting into Critical Role

At the suggestion of @dontacronus I’ve began Campaign 1- Vox Machina: Arrival At Kraghammer

So far I’m entertained by

Keyleth being bad at flirting, I relate to that big time!

Vex'ahlia trying to get Trinket to do a trick was funny. How she gets him to shake a bit. Poor baby goes off in a pout.

Scanlan’s adventure with an aggressive prostitute.

Tiberius just saying things like inviting Balgus into the party and then getting into it with the guards later. It’s funny to see the rest of the party react to his words.

The whole bit where dwarves wanted to fight Trinket and then Keyleth turning into a bear! Then SHE does tricks! With a Nat 20!

Love how they got Balgus in such a good mood- “He’s drunk, you’re offering him ale, and he’s been laughing at a bear for two minutes”

Glad they explained where they got the troll penis from😅.

So I don’t have much to say at the combat at the end of the episode. But I’m sure I’ll have more to say in future combat encounters.

I’m enjoying this a lot.

Because I’m going in blind, please do not comment with spoilers or I will have to stop posting my reactions.

One thing I just caught was Beau was from Kamorda (mentioned in the Labenda Swamp fighting the Gators).  I thought this sounded familiar and remembered that it was actually mentioned in Campaign 1 when they are speaking with Balgus about his wine.  He mentions “ thistle branch, darkblood wine”.  We know that Beau’s family are winemakers so I kinda wonder if he acquired the thistle from Beau’s family.  Nothing ground breaking, just a connection i noticed.

“What time of day is it?” No one knows, but it’s probably early evening.

Grog tries to sweet talk Balgus by waking him up with Scanlan’s help. Vex whispers frantically: “Lost cause. Lost cause. Abandon ship!”

ICONIC line: “I have an intelligence of six, I know what I’m doing!”
