i rlly dont like the habit that some reviewers have of when giving a critical/negative review of a book, film, music, etc, they have to 'soften' the review or console the audience that if you enjoy it thats okay thats totally okay more power to you uwu not only is the sentiment gratingly obvious to me and does not need to be mentioned but it shows a lack of conviction and dampens the points you are trying to make; especially if the media being discussed contains sexist/racist tropes but 'more power to you if you liked this book it's okay to like it'. have some fucking faith in your opinions and your takes and commit to your beliefs!!!!

Eh, for what it was I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. This wasn't as cringe as ya'll made out to be. With romance comics it's going to have that, and it was there and I did cringe, but there was gems in that cringe. For what it was, I didn't hate it. Like I love comics and superhero comics, but Fanon aside, I'd buy a copy of the comic and hang it on the wall :)

i also finally watched the substance recently and i liked it. i also after 2 days pinpointed my mystery beef with it so i think i can say: i enjoyed that it has an extremely simple, straightforward premise which is explained just enough to create suspense. There's a mail-order kit that needs to be used a very specific way, but is extremely susceptible to human error and does weird body horror shit to you if you use it wrong. We don't know where it comes from or who invented it. great, we don't need to. i think this is really good plus there are some cool special effects and a few sequences i like could not watch bc they were too gross* which is an endorsement

however it's not a very grounded in reality film which is fine for the horror premise part but IMO is way too silly when it comes to like, the logic of the TV show the main character hosts that appears to be some kind of 80s workout tape but on network TV and gets like a sexier reboot that you absolutely could not show on American TV in the morning. but this is kind of funny and seems to be on purpose based on the general absurdism and sort of floaty unclear nature of the setting and time period etc, so YMMV. it just didn't 100% work for me

I actually love that you asked about this one because it's the sequel to 'there's no good tricks but old ones' and I love the title. SO much. I'm going to add both fics to a series and call it 'the magician,' in part because of the song I'm pulling the titles from, and in part because I Have Feelings about Hawks + the magician tarot card. as always I am pulling out the board with the red strings when it comes to him, but if you take a step back the red strings are actually forming giant question marks and this emoji: 😭

even though he isn't in this snippet, Tokoyami actually does show up in this fic!! which is. really fun after Hawks' meditations on how bad of a teacher he was in 'there's no good tricks but old ones' 😬
