Fireworks
Tumblr media
Explosions of light. Fireworks, blanketing the sky. Cascading colors in pleasant design, descending in patterns similar to the willow's leaves. Flooding my perception... I dare not look directly, its beauty far too strong, I fear I'll go blind. I'm too far away to properly appreciate such visual perfection... not close enough to you to even try and understand. I reach out, but try as I might you only seem to fall further away. Explosions of self... now the light is darkness. Pure crimson, with a backdrop of black. Born inside,  from a feeling of displeasure, it illuminates my very being. How can I look away when the dark is coming from within? This is not beautiful... just another failed attempt.

50 years ago today (March 26, 1973) The Young & the Restless debuted on CBS. It’s been the #1 daytime drama for 34 straight years now, and is proportionately even more popular in Canada where it actually airs a day ahead of the U.S. While I’m not that regular of a viewer anymore, I’m loving all the #YR50 celebrations this week. And yes, I purchased this mug to celebrate it all in my own way too. • • • #igerstoronto #yandr #yr50 #soapopera #cbs #genoacity #crimsonlights #coffeug #cbsdaytime #soapoperadigest (at Genoa City, Wisconsin) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqQ285ny5O0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Ever since the Hospital Scene of Spiderman 2, I am convinced these arms are just scared little puppies. Prove me otherwise.
As soon as the doctor regained consciousness, all of his senses immediately were on high alert once again.
He had awoken at another place completely foreign to him, even though at first sight without any obvious dangers. It had been decades since he's last felt so well-rested, but that irregularity only amplified his concern.
Otto's biological limbs felt heavy and a little numb, a big blank space in his head where the memories of the past hours should've been. Trying to get up, a sharp ache on his left side made him suck in a pained breath.
For now, he decided it was for the better to evaluate the situation first. Shifting in his position, he felt a pillow having been shoved comfortably behind his back, relieving the weight of his metallic belt.
Now that his mind and body had adjusted themselves, his still blurry vision allowed him to take in his surroundings.
A one, maybe two-room-appartement. Didn't look like anyone maintained the building very well, but it was admittedly very comfortably furnished. Not that it mattered though.
What really mattered was that he was in fact not alone.
Another person stood across the room, back facing towards him and buried in some work on the small kitchen counter.
Only for a brief moment, adrenaline from the earlier fight with that strange other Spiderman made his veins boil up again, the metal appendices reacting to his agitation through rapid movement.
However, even though he was currently weakened: That tiny, fragile person humming a cheerful melody over there didn't really seem like a serious threat at second thought.
How ridiculous!
The mechanical arms had to do most of the work as Octavius managed to sit up on the ragged sofa, his battered body being too weak to even stay upright on it's own.
And before he could catch your attention, his upper right claw was already following the source of your voice, expanding until it reached over your shoulder.
He wanted to warn you, unwilling to drag any more civilians into his self-made mess. But his throat was too sore, only barely audible croaks coming over his lips....
...yet ultimatively, no harm came over you - much to the Doc's surprise.
Otto furrowed his brows in confusion because instead of freaking out, you chuckled lightheartedly at the machine. It's crimsonlight glowed at your direction almost like a curious eye, until you boldly poked it back with your index finger.
"I wouldn't recommend touching them" a raw voice made you jump, and now you were almost embarassed that you didn't notice earlier. "They are easily startled."
The man cleared his throat awkwardly as you looked back and forth between him and the metal arm next to you, both trying to make sense of this almost unreal situation.
"Thank god you're awake!" you now rejoiced, the earlier bewilderment being replaced with relief. "I already feared I'd have to take you to an actual hospital."
You had already figured that a person with such an extraordinary appearance wouldn't really want to be found by anyone - and to be perfectly honest, you trusted neither the government, nor any of their corrupted agencies shall they get wind about that man.
"What am I doing here?"
"Oh?" He shouldn't even be surprised at your sociable yet a little naive character - it's the curse of youth. "Ah, yes. Sorry, I wasn't sure how much you can remember."
It was a little amusing seeing that grumpy old man making irritated grimaces, but you wanted to be respectful.
"Actually, your friends here brought you to my home." You pointed to the metal claws that attentively followed your every move. "Since you were unconscious, and I couldn't carry you on my own, so..."
"We-" The man cut himself off, giving it his utmost to not overuse talking of them as a unit. You seemed to have helped him, and he was already frightening enough without acting mad. "They didn't hurt you?"
"Well, it took me some convincing until they let me treat your wounds" you giggled as if those monstrous things weren't the most dangerous weapons you had ever laid eyes upon. Well, to your defense: You haven't seen them in action yet.
"But now they trust me, I guess." Otto frantically blinked in disbelief, his hand absendmindedly running over a great bandage placed on his ribcage.
Due to his upbringing and the tragedies plastering his life's path, trust didn't really came natural to the scientist - and the AI? It's running on a very basic understanding of human instinct.
No way he could be convinced that easily.
"The wound is pretty deep" you spoke with a more serious tone, worrying even. "Several ribs are broken, and there's no guarantee you won't get an infection."
With sheepish steps, you approached him, carrying a platter with tea, water and painkillers. Even some snacks you had scraped up.
And really - his excess arms did nothing to prevent you from getting close to the doctor. Otto observed in awe as the claws circled you with an almost childlike playfulness while you placed the nourishments on the table.
"T-Thank you, my dear..." The nickname escaped his tongue faster than his mind could catch up on - and you couldn't help but bite your tongue, a little bashful at his way of expressing gratitude. "But you shouldn't go out of your way for a stranger like that."
"Oh, believe me: I am an expert at human nature." You smiled most welcoming at the man you now took a seat next to, making sure he didn't bleed through the bandage. "And you don't look like someone who takes proper care of themselves."
One of your palms was absentmindedly placed on one of the claws, almost as if petting it, gaining an approving mechanical whirr in response.
It was a strange sight, honestly - yet almost adorable to him as well.
Maybe it was the bloodloss - or the fact that even a man of his age wasn't immune to such tantalizing beauty - but the doctor indeed felt a calming aura in your presence.
Furthermore: Now that he came to think of it, the voices in his head were awfully quiet...his mind feeing so unusually peaceful.
"Do they have names?" you asked bluntly, with Otto only shaking his head as if he didn't trust his own ears. "I mean, they're conscious, right? They reacted to their environment and very coordinated at that, even after you passed out."
"Yes, we are sentient" the man explained, wondering if you too were out of your mind asking those silly questions.
"We? Like a hivemind or something?"
"Very simplified, but yes."
"Wow, that's weird but also awesome!" You slapped your hand onto your knee like an overexcited toddler, huffing amusedly. "So, are you guys some sort of hero?"
To be honest, he had more of a 'mad scientist' vibe to you - but your intuition never lied: That man was a good person at heart, even though you felt a lot weighting heavy on his soul.
"...people would call me the opposite."
Slowly but steadily, the usual voices crept back into his head again, becoming too loud to ignore. It was overwhelming, almost indescribable - sharing your head with several unfeeling AI's until you're unable to differentiate between one another.
Why was he even wasting time entertaining a nobody like you, who wouldn't understand anything? About his project, and the necessary sacrifices for a greater purpose?
"But those fools are unable to see the bigger picture!" he exclaimed, dramatically throwing both his real and artificial arms into the air before burying his face in the former.
Was that really the same person you had talked to earlier?
The man in front of you still seemed polite and reserved, yet something about his demeanour had shifted - into a darker direction, to be precise.
"My apology for the inconveniene" Otto excused himself, the claws holding him in place as he forced himself to his feet, every movement bringing agonizing pain. "But I am needed somewhere else."
"Huh" you pried with a mocking undertone, crossing your arms defendingly as you leaned back on the sofa. "And where would that be?"
"I don't expect an imbecile like you to understand" he hissed back sharply, not bothering to turn around. "But apparently, this is not the world I know."
Imbecile? Ouch...But other than that, you weren't really impressed.
A paralel universe? Time travel? Whatever unlikely scenario it was:
In a world where robots, mutants, literal gods and whatnot else fought a purple alien that wiped out half of the human race for five years, it was by far not the most confusing thing that ever happened.
Nothing is impossibe - especially not in this city.
"H-Hey there!" The man staggered to the door, collapsing halfway and you immediately rushed to his side, supporting his slack body on your shoulders. Otto's appendices were awfully careful as they helped you getting him back to the initiate spot to the sofa, not wrecking any wall or furniture on their way.
"For someone priding himself on his intellligence, you're behaving very stupid." You kneeled next to the exhausted man, fingertips softly brushing over his bandage.
Yes, aside from the machines doing their superhuman work, he was really just a regular person. "You're way too reckless. The wound will reopen if you strain it too much."
The doc groaned in pain, yet managed to force out a bitter laugh. "And you do have a harsh tongue for such a lovely girl..."
"It's neeed on occasions like these." Otto was quick to drop his hostility, expression softening as your compassionate eyes met his.
He took another painkiller, sipping the water you offered him in one go. "I'm Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N. And I insist that you stay here until you're better, okay?"
On the one hand, he wanted to object, not wanting to burden you and still being distrustful as well...
...but on the other, however, he was in no position to bargain. Struggling against your kindness was to no avail when he was too weak to even stand.
"Y/N..." The man tasted the name on his tongue, enjoying the sound of every single syllable. His brows were knitted together and his stare drilled holes into your head, almost as if you were another equation yet to decipher.
Out of a whim, he'd softly grab your hand, placing the ghost of a kiss atop of it while a smug grin now decorated his face.
"The name is Doctor Otto Octavius, my sweet child - and it's a pleasure to meet you."
