Criminal Minds s04e04 Paradise review - or more aptly named, the episode where Wil Wheaton is the bad guy and it’s glorious

Episode 04 – Paradise

Hey guys!!! So last episode we found that Emily and Spencer are besties and I can’t get enough of those two little shits and I love them so much.

This episode’s name is kind of frightening. Because, now we’re in season four, we know that the titles could be kind of misgiving.

So let’s see what happens.

Rocking music and rain. I love it.

Lonely truck driver.

Did he kill those two or were they dead before he hit the car? Intriguing.

“A date? With who?”

I love Derek’s curiosity.

“My hot tub.”

Oh Emily.

“Now that sounds like a party.”

You dirty boy.

“You’re so not invited.”

Oh my god, Shemar is so ridiculous. I love him so freaking much.

And of course, JJ comes in and has a case. Oh man.

I want to be that pen.

She said she was going to call the grandma to check on the kids. Why isn’t she?

You asshole, Ian. Why scare your wife like that?

Is this gonna be a Hotel California situation only in Nevada?

Thomas Fuller: “A fool’s paradise is a wise man’s hell.” Ew.

Awwwwww!! JJ is putting headphones on her tummy so the baby can hear Beethoven.

“I personally preferred Mozart myself. But be careful to limit his exposure to one hour a day. Amniotic fluids have a tendency to amplify sound.”

“Thanks for the reminder, doc.”

Oh god, I love this show.

Ew. Someone’s watching them. Gross.

So the two people were dead before that truck driver hit them? Oh boy.

“Darlin’, I’ve waited on eighty-seven folks since we opened this morning. Somebody would have to come through here doing Cartwheels on fire for me to remember.” Oh my lord, I love this girl.

Ha!

So she does remember the people in the photos, and Derek’s like –

“Where they doing cartwheels?” oh boy.

“No, but I was.” XD

Wait. So someone delivers breakfast to their door. They don’t know who ordered it. But the creep heard her say she wanted banana pancakes? GET OUT OF THERE!

“I thought you forgot about me.”

“It hurt.”

BABY! LET ME CUDDLE YOU!

“Addresses and phone numbers? On its way, kind sir. Anything else I can do you for?” XD I love this lady.

“You, my fine furry friends, are welcome.”

“Remind me to have her drug tested.”

Oh god, I’m dying over here and it’s not even noon.

Well yeah. They kinda are locked in. Duh.

“She’s pretty tough.” Yes she is, poodle.

What’s that alarm for?

Did that fucker seriously stab him through the peephole? DAMN.

So the fucker has mommy issues? Oh god.

And why is the husband being a dick right now? Ugh.

I really don’t like that motel manager.

WIL WHEATON!!!!! I LOVE YOU WIL!

Yet he’s the unsub (they wouldn’t put him there if he wasn’t XD) and he’s acting like a dick, which makes me hate the character. But I love Wil Wheaton so much anyway XD

So the freak took their underwear?

Ew.

And I can’t believe I called Wil Wheaton a freak XD

Wait. So he played with the lights and was able to get in there in those few seconds and put another woman’s panties on the chair? Oh god.

Reid just said ‘underwear fetish’. I can’t get it out of my head.

And Derek said ‘arouse’. I can’t with this show.

“That has yielded me diddlysquat.”

“So I regrouped.”

“I looked at some pictures of baby pandas.”

I love you, Garcia.

“And by interesting I also mean icky and sad and wrong …”

Oh honey.

CALLED IT! WIL IS THE UNSUB!

Did that just fucking happen? Did Derek and Aaron chase Wil’s character all the way to the road and a truck just ran through him? Oh my god!

What was some amazing shit right there.

I mean, awful. But … WHOA!

“Well, roadside motels definitely go on my list. Of things to never do.”

“You have a list?”

“You don’t?”

HA!

Oh Aaron, don’t beat yourself up over not seeing through Wil’s façade, okay? He’s a dang good actor.

Phaedrus: “Things are not always what they seem. The first appearance deceives many. The intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden.” XD I love Roman poetry.

Okay, so this episode was nasty on so many levels, but they did put in a few cute moments. Also, Wil Wheaton as a bad guy? Oh my god, I love you, baby!!!!!! And the little banter between Derek and Emily in the beginning totally had me grinning like a damn idiot.

I just love this show so fucking much.

And yes, this was relatively short for a review, but honestly? It was too gross for me to even contemplate to do anything weird with it. Sorry guys.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force #46: “Gee Whiz” | August 22, 2004 - 12:00 AM | S04E04

This one’s half real good, half okay. The plot: a new billboard purportedly has the face of Jesus Christ hidden on there, so people are going there to pray and leave gifts and all that stupid shit you do when you are a religion idiot. The main problem is that on Adult Swim you can’t actually say “Jesus Christ”. This was an apparent issue way back in 2002, Don Hertzfeldt‘s “Rejected” short was supposed to air. I THINK it was supposed to air on November 3, 2002, which was the night they premiered “Finkel Files” and also inexplicably reran “The Lewis Lectures” with a fucked up soundtrack. I wish I’d remembered this detail because I literally wrote about that without going into WHY Lewis Lectures reaired. I don’t think I touched on “Rejected” at all on this blog. They actually did run promos for “Rejected”, but it never came to fruition.

All that in mind, this ATHF has a memorable opening where Frylock explicitly discusses Turner’s standards and practice which prevented the characters from saying “Jesus”, though they were able to hint at it strongly and settle on calling him “Gee-Whiz”. George Lowe hosts this segment and blows off a nun’s head with a shotgun to demonstrate what you can and can’t do on this program. It’s very funny. But the rest of the episode is about Meatwad being with child, a perceived immaculate conception. All this stuff is fine, but nothing beats the hilarious opening (I’m trying to remember if I liked this opening back in 2004 when I originally saw this, because I vaguely remember hating fourth-wall breaking even in absurdist comedies. I ain’t mad now. At that)

Mild spoilers: Ted Nugent is in this. I never really feel that easy with him being used as an ironic cameo, because he’s a legitimate racist scumbag. But he had a little era here where he was just a right-wing kook that was fun to laugh at. He showed up in an episode of Undeclared around this time (that didn’t air, but is on DVD), where the characters sorta acknowledged that they enjoyed him ironically. Smug limpdick liberals all thought Kerry was going to take the White House from George “Woah homer” Bush, and that we could just complacently giggle at genuine fascists like Nugent. Now those same limpdick liberals are all like “WE MISS YOU, SIR” to GWB and it’s sickening. If I can get preachy for a second, I think it’s important that we all remember this: Bush was a war criminal. and he looked like a freaking monkey.
