Death Ode
Above the hubbub and excitement
An oblong window
In the sky
Where lily-livered coward sits
Upon skin throne a-high
Fresh new pack, holy smokes
Purring gentle masterstrokes
Orb-webbed cribellum’s
Saccharine facts.
Entangle twisted unconscionable acts
Towered control
Scrapes silken cloud
Picking you up
To move you around
Pieces playing out in space
Unhindered ?
Or a quirk of fate
Careening
Wild,
Out of console
Into
Sponsored reinforced
Centre-fold
So much has gone.
Horribly wrong

Just fucking pick a side !
Sorry. Is this a sales call?
No.
A tin- can
Playing it to cool for school
An easy listen
Takes it to the fall
Or to the bridge
To kill us all
This river bends an open tree
A plant for you
A road to see
The game of existential threat
To breathe restricted,
Wheeze regret
Exist
Within this liminal frame
Flickering
Afore
Its liquid flame
In retina licking
Light emitting
One way switching
Ghostly
Shame

OH!!! OHHHH THESE SPIDERS ARE SO FUCKIN COOOOL
hold on im gonna NERD RAMBLE.
Deinopidae fall under Araneomorphae, so yes, they've got cross pincer fangs! these spiders in particular have a silk spinning organ called the cribellum INSTEAD of spinnerets. cribellate spider silk is often very fine, but strong, and because they have different silk spinning organs, they also get special bristles on their back legs to help them comb it out!!! (these bristles are called "calamistrum", and are the reason cribellate spider silk is described as having a "wooly texture".)
AS A BONUS, if Helob does turn out to be one of these guys, he's transgender! Sexually mature cribellate males lose their cribellum and/or their calamistrum and can't hunt, but sexually mature females do NOT lose them, and last I checked, Helob was still catching little guys for us to buy!!!
whats REALLY interesting to me is how these guys hunt.
Deinopidae ... consists of stick-like elongated spiders that catch prey by stretching a web across their front legs before propelling themselves forward. These unusual webs will stretch two or three times their relaxed size, entangling any prey that touch them.
LIKE HELLO. that is SO Helob to me. reach out and GRAB your next munchie with your silk.
pics under the cut, WARNING for SPIDERS who have BIG OL EYES (the pics are zoomed out, there's no eye contact, but the eyes DO be large lookin.)
LIKE LOOK AT THESE GUYS. LOOK AT THAT FACE. THATS HELOB!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
makes me wonder if Helob is actually just stick thin and if the big fluffy round wool is him wearing his silk instead or something...
spiders can have two different fang positions. this, along with a few other things, determines their taxonomic classification - cross pincer chelicerae belong to araneomorphae ("true spiders", containing 93% of all known spider species), and (most*) straight down chelicerae belong to mygalomorphae (tarantulas and related, known to be powerful predators and have potent venom).
(* old world spiders, mesothelae, also have downward pointing chelicerae, but most don't have very strong venom and aren't very active predators, relying on ambush tactics. these consist mainly of burrowing/trapdoor spiders found in japan, china, and southeast asia)
with this information i'd liked to point out that helob has cross pincer chelicerae, and shamura has straight down chelicerae.
shamura's either a tarantula or a trapdoor spider. and they are potentially asian!! (helob could be anything, but im proposing either an orb weaver for the matching aesthetic, or a jumping spider bc those things are so goddamn cute.)

#1698 - Oecobius sp. - Wall Spider
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of hundreds occupying the front veranda wall at Yallingup.
A genus of very small spiders that spin webs over crevices in rocks, on walls, and similar species. They use a specialised organ called a cribellum to seperate each strand of silk into many much finer strands as they emerge, to produce cribellate silk that entangles prey animals without requiring sticky droplets, by exploiting Van der Waals forces and strongly absorbing the waxes on an insects exoskeleton.
Wall Spiders are found worldwide, and a few species are cosmopolitan or invasive. In at least one species, resident Wall Spiders won’t contest a web if another wall spider tries to move in, and will simply move out to start another.

A sleeping beauty called Mirkwood.
Tumblr media
The air was still tempered with the moist mist of sunrise. Dew still clung heavily to the leaves making them shimmer with threads of silver under the early morning sun. The forest seemed silent; Yet to awaken.....but not to the ears of Elves. The memories had been like the dawn. A beautiful escape from a starless night. And as they lingered heavily upon his thoughts he had first heard the faintest of whispers. Like a cool breeze unrelenting with its caress he yearned for more.
It had been too long. The Forrest had laid silent, forgotten. Cast within its doom of darkness, where even the brightest of the sun's glorious rays could delve deep enough. And thus the webs had grown heavy like the blanket of myth casting all that had once trodden its paths into fable. Was a sad bittersweet beauty. That no other could compare! And yet there was hope! If only fools, it remained like Arien and Tilion in their never-ending ride across the sky.
Swiftly Legolas moved. His left foot barely touched the ground, as he leaped, fluently breaching the trunk of a tree.  Reaching out with his left hand, he grasped a low branch and brought his knees up to his stomach; nimbly swinging into a flip. As his cloak flayed out around him,  his bow traveled the length of his right arm, to rest once more across his shoulder. Landing lithely upon the top of the branch, with a furrowed brow, his jaw clenched. And he reached across his shoulders, fluently pulling free the two long blades sheathed upon his back.
Nimbly he ran the length of the bough,  twisting the blades fluently within his hands, as he brought them high across his shoulders, cutting free the lose tendrils of webbing that threatened to block his path. The sun would find a way. He would find away to breach the darkness... the silent slumber...cast upon those he loved.
The cobweb clung upon the eaves and branches in the last bid to snare, before dropping listlessly to the Forrest floor below whilst about him shadows moved within the boughs of the trees; protesting against the sudden light; the glimmer of hope. It was not over. Never would it be! For ageless were their hearts... and still their bodies in slumber, lingered on.
Deftly his sharp sights gazed between the frays of strange cobwebs and webbing. Thick and tangled it hung like a maze between the trees in all directions. The ways to his Ada's Halls, the old settlement of the Elves, were yet to be seen.  Determined that this day would be start. The day that those whom slept in restless slumber would begin to once again stir, Legolas stepped forward,  pushing off from the bough with the ball of his right foot; he leaped high.  Propelled himself into the air. Lithely he leaned his shoulders forward, bringing his knees up to his chest and thrust them outwards into a frontward flip; as his cloak flayed about him.
The maze of cobwebs snared instantly against his upturned back , jolting his fall as in unison he lowered the long blades within his hands; swiftly slicing diagonally, behind his raised legs before nimbly twisted the helms within between his fingers; directing his blades upwards along the length of his body. Instantly the webbing gave way propelling him downwards into a backward flip to swing forward through the webbing towards the hissing shape of the creature hidden within.
Instantly the web began to twitch, as large black spindly legs broke through the white haze. The claws on the end of each of its legs grasped tightly to its web. Slowly the massive form crawled silently forward, giant front palps tasting his scent as its massive over-sized abdomen pulsed.
It's back spinners making short work as it's cribellum spurted the silk in thrusts, spewing forth the white webbing in a bid to trap the Elven Prince mid flight!  Legolas tossed his two long blades into the air and reached up;simultaneously catching them within his grasp.
Directing their spiraling helms towards his chest,  he straightened his elbows, thrusting the blades forward, before him; deep within the gnashing, claw like mouth of the giant spider and flexed his biceps.  Forcing his strength down through his shoulders; retracting his elbows to his body and pulling it towards him as he levered his body upwards. Swinging his legs high to his left, nimbly he dodged the silken thread that spewed towards him from the spiders spinneret and released his hold upon his blade helms, to land upon a bent knee upon the spiders cephalothorax. Swiftly he leaned forward reaching to grasp upon the helms of his blades and ripped them upwards slicing the hard exoskeleton of the spiders head in two and turned swiveling upon his left knee as another giant spider darted forward to loom above him.
Leaning his body backwards upon the dead spider as it hung precariously upon the weakening web,  fluently Legolas, twisted his wrists maneuvering the helms of his blades within his fingers and thrust his arms forward;Piercing his blades through the trochanter joints upon the underside of the looming spider.
Instantly the spider coiled back, hissing wildly at the pain and Legolas brought his knees to his chest, thrusting them out in unison as his core muscles tightened springing him to his feet. Stepping forward his left foot pushed down upon the abdomen of the dead spider and he launched himself upward, dislodging it from its web; to hurtle down and eventually crash upon the Forrest floor; as he leaped in pursuit of the retreating foe!
Stretching forth his arms, his blades in tow, to focus upon  the silken thread, that spewed from its cribellum. He wedged the steel like thread flat between his blades and swung, descending rapidly upon its frayed webbing in pursuit before letting himself free fall to land upon retreating abdomen.
Dropping to sit ,Legolas leaned back upon the spider, letting his body slide forward along its retreating length. His legs slid across it eyes and he sat forward; letting his legs, calf's, hang alongside it's palps and raised his arms, blades vertical to his eyes before bringing his shoulders forward in unison to thrust them downwards between his spread legs.
Instantly the First Age blades, pierced through the soft tissue of the Spiders bulging eyes, entering its brain. Killing it upon contact and sending the Elven Prince tumbling forward as it stopped abruptly, hanging a mere meter from the ground. As his cloak flayed out around him Legolas landed mid roll and fluently rose to his feet. Instantly striding to stand next to the figure, the one he saw, sitting, mediating. Unaware of the coating of webs; the toil and toll that the slumber was taking upon him.
Without hesitation, Legolas knelt down. his brow softened as he lowered his left blade to the ground before brushing away the webs and letting it rest upon the Elves shoulder, urging.....
"Lost and forgotten to be darker than the darkness of endless night. Where gates stand forever shut, till the world is mended or no more..... Will you shrivel like the cold mist, like the winds go wailing, out into the barren lands far beyond the mountains? By fire, sun and moon, hearken now and hear me! Light and dew are on the budding leaf... it is time to rise. Time to awaken... ..."

This web may be my favorite. The dried flowers on the frames are also from my garden ❤️ Did you know?? AT LEAST ONE KIND OF SPIDER USES ELECTRICITY TO SNARE ITS PREY! Sometimes called the garden center spider for its love of humid greenhouse conditions, the feather-legged lace weaver has a truly far-out way of catching a meal. Researchers at Oxford University discovered that, rather than spinning sticky webs like orb weavers, this spider produces an incredible nano-thin silk inside a special organ called the cribellum. It uses special hairs on its hind legs to comb the silk as it emerges from the body, creating an electrostatic charge in the process. Together, the charged threads form “poofs,” similar to a ball of wool, that trap prey. #spookyseason #spooky #spookyart #spookyvibes #boo #spooked #spookyseason👻 #art #artistsoninstagram #artist #artwork #spider #spiders #spiderweb #silks #spiderwebart #etsyshop #etsy #etsysellersofinstagram #etsyseller #etsyfinds #artwork #spiderfang #spiderwebs #halloween #halloweendecor #fall #fallvibes #fallequinox #falldecor #fallvibes🍁 (at Bremerton, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF7eWtZnq1Y/?igshid=1df5mtet0bb79
