[Image Description: artwork of a crevasus: a furless, featherless pegasus with grey skin, four eyes, three-toed hooves, armored scutes like an armadillo, and bioluminescent plumes on its mane and tail. In the dark, narrow depths of a canyon; the crevasus balances on a small ledge, using its naked wings to brace itself while grazing on plants growing from the cliffside. End image description.]
A bit of new art for the book :) I hadn't done "offical" or "polished" crevasus art before now (shockingly).
Crevasi (kreh-vah-sai) are a subterranean pegasus species who've adapted to live in the depths. Their wings have been repurposed as extra limbs and they create their own dim light by which to see. They have an extra set of eyes and grippy, multi-toed feet, and armored spine plates to protect from falling rocks.

do pegasi have extra toes or not? I’m finding conflicting answers haha
Hi there!
This is more for my @skycowboys account, but no worries :)
Ok so I have flip-flopped between additional toes on pegasi in the past, but I've now settled on pegasi having 1 toe like horses, and crevasi have multiple toes. I should probably update the skeleton design...
Pegasi
Crevasus
The second pic is a bit of a joke (they don't have mandibles or 2 sets of wing-limbs), but it does show their feetsies better than the first.
The King Wing (a mythical pegasus) also has multiple toes -
And this swamp monster has hoof spurs -

Someone, Anyone
Sometimes I feel as though I would rather have someone lying next to me
Caressing my body
Feeling all the crevasis fall into eachothers bodies
As opposed to laying alone.
Wanting someone to look into my eyes
As we ponder what is running though eachothers minds.
Something as simple as comfortable silence
But also comfortable conversation
Something that anyone can say they crave.
When do we know when its something true?
When can we believe that it is absolutely comfortable
And them not just toying with our emotions
Leading to false intentions and empty anticipation.
We hear about the good things
But what about the bad ones?
Soon, all the good washes away
In heartache.
When do we know something is truly pure and meaningful?
The feeling of someone caressing our body
Feeling the crevasis fall into eachothers bodies.
As soon as we get that
It feels right
But how right is it?

I can't remember if they're meant to be myths/legends but has anyone been brave or stupid enough to attempt to tame a Crevasus?
Some curious explorers hell-bent on discovering what's hidden beneath the mists?
Henlo!
So crevasi are def a real animal in the SC world, but yes they live below the mists in the chasms. I've linked their respective wiki pages for more reading, but the gist is that no pilot who's ventured into the mist has ever returned. No one within the world is quite sure why this is, but there are a few people who are studying the mist and why it's so deadly. Eliza is one of them and you may meet her in an up-coming project :)
The crevasi are only seen if they venture above the mist table along the walls of the chasms. This is a very rare occurrence, which has lead to their mythical status.
As far as taming goes, well that's pretty contingent on finding a crevasus above the mist and then keeping it alive. A crevasus' diet is highly localized to their territory along the floors and walls of the chasms and limited to what grows there - mainly fungi - rather than the grasses that carpet the surface.
But given you could find one, gentle one, and feed one...they'd make a nimble if not creepy mount. They are descended from pegasi, after all, and still retain a horse-like mentality.

[Image Description: artwork depicting a cavern illuminated by orange, bioluminescent fungi. A dark grey pegasus uses its nearly-naked wings to brace itself against the walls of the narrow cave. The few remaining feathers on the animal’s wings and back glow blue-green. End image description.]
The Crevasus - A sub-species of pegasus adapted to live deep in the chasms, far below the layers of mist. They’re wings, now all but featherless, have been re-purposed to be an additional set of legs. They use these to help traverse the steep walls and floors of the chasms.
They have developed other adaptions to cope with the incredibly dark environment: small amounts of bioluminescence, which they use to not only see with, but also to form and maintain social bonds. Larger eyes, or multiple eyes that capture infrared light, large, sensitive ears, and feet with 2-3 toes to help grip the walls are other common adaptions.
Their size varies from a small pony to average horse. The larger ones are slow and graceful, able to reach the mosses, lichens, and even fern-like plants that thrive in the low light and high-moisture environment. The smaller ones move quickly to chase small prey such as bugs and lizard-like vertebrates.
Crevasi tend to live solitary lives, but will occasionally congregate, or meet up with other individuals that they have met before. Rarely they will stay together in sibling pairs.
No human in the Sky Cowboys world has ever seen these. Only when man has the ability to survive the journey below the mist will they, and their unique ecosystem, be discovered.
Happy Halloween!
