hurry up | haknyeon x reader 

love is coincidental. or at least that’s the only real way haknyeon can describe meeting you. he thought that in the lifetime he’s spent in this too small town, he had seen all there was to see, but when you walk into the corner street cafe with a muted green duffle bag and and face that looks like you don’t belong, you prove him wrong. he asks you out on a date that very week. 

love is fleeting. you make it clear right from the start: you don’t intend on staying for long. haknyeon decides he’s fine with that, decides that he’ll enjoy whatever this is for as long as it lasts. you don’t really seem like the type to stay in a dead-end town like this one anyways. but haknyeon hadn’t realized that when you said ‘this is temporary’ you were talking about him as much as you were talking about the town. 

love is dead. it’s some sort of premature hell, haknyeon decides watching you and juyeon prance around town, stumble into the cafe, and whisper in the corner of town meetings. it’s unfair, the way you end up staying in town despite how much you talked about leaving. and what’s really torturous is haknyeon seeing the way you stare at juyeon and knowing you never looked at him like that. 

love is forgiving. you break up with juyeon after three months. haknyeon expects you to leave once the news spreads, expects to wake up the next day and hear from the cafe owner that you packed up your things and left after having spent five months in this town. to his surprise, you don’t. instead you get a job at the cafe, and haknyeon swears he catches something resembling guilt each time you take his order. and when you apologize for the way you ended things with him four months after they actually ended, hakyeon decides to forgive. 

love is in friendships. you’re easy to talk to and fun to be around. not something new to haknyeon, but something that feels fresh nonetheless. it’s somehow simpler now when you spend hours talking by the cafe counter than it ever was when you two were dating each other. “honestly, haknyeon,” you tell him one day, “you’re one of the closest friends i have.” he chooses to ignore the small tug at his chest. 

love is abrupt. it’s after you’ve been in town for a year and a half that you confess to him. “i love you,” you blurt randomly, while walking with haknyeon, “i know this out of nowhere and i know i blew it with you before, but i just can’t keep this in any longer.” haknyeon doesn’t utter a word. “i don’t expect you to reciprocate. i don’t expect anything. i just,” you hesitate, tugging at your brown tote bag, “i just wanted you to know.” 

love is freeing. “wait,” haknyeon calls after you when you begin to walk away. you turn around to face him again, just barely meeting his eyes as if even that would be too painful to bear. and suddenly, haknyeon can no longer ignore the way he never fell out of love with you. “i’d be lying if i said i haven’t been wanting to do this for the past year.” and when he kisses you, it feels like coming home. 

love is warm. haknyeon is in love with you. 

love is kind. the writing love letters when you’re asleep kind of love. 

love is fair. the sort of love haknyeon prays never has to end. 

love is selfless. to haknyeon, it’s obvious that when you get an opportunity in the city, you have to go. it’s clear that you’ve been in this town for four years too long and even more evident you’re not ready to slow down. “but what about us?” you ask later that day, voice quiet and small. smiling, haknyeon mutters, “for you, i’m willing to give us up.”

love is patient. haknyeon drops you off at the airport. and while giving you one final hug, haknyeon’s can’t seem to recall how he convinced himself to let you go. “i don’t want to leave,” you whisper, tears streaking down your face. he waves you off at that, deciding against telling you that he’ll wait for you even if you never plan on coming back. in a hopefully encouraging manner, he pushes you towards the gate, saying, “hurry up and go.”

love remembers. when haknyeon sees you again, he nearly has a heart attack out of shock to see your face and hear your voice. “hey, it’s been a while.” and yeah, haknyeon thinks coming face to face with you, it’s been years since he’s seen you behind the counter of cafe tropical. and it’s as he’s about to ask what you’re doing here and what happened to the city, that you place a plate in front of him, his usual order that you used to serve him all those years ago. so instead of the million questions running through his head, haknyeon stares dumbfoundedly at you and mumbles, “you remember?” resting your hand against the counter you respond, “of course.”

hello! it’s mairin! if you see this, you know i’ve moved blogs and you decided to stick with me. thank you! this is still a current work in progress, but it’s good enough for now.

this blog will be less multi than my old blog. i had too many groups to count. so in general, this will be dedicated to the groups i follow the closest and/or make content regularly for. example: seventeen, onf, pentagon, oneus, golden child, txt, treasure, to1, etc... however, i will still make content for my sideblogs.
