Half the inn has been partitioned by velveteen curtains, converted to a stage. A giant pair of garishly red papier maché lips float above it. And upon the stage – wearing thigh high stockings, a remarkably sturdy corset, and a pair of gravity-defying heels – is Hob Gadling.

He is strutting. There is no other word for it.

Santi's had far too much to drink. He's sitting outside around the fire with his friends, and he won't shut up about you.

"I just...I like them so much!" Santi said, standing up like he's on a stage in front of the other three of his friends.

"Do you have any idea how loud you are right now?" Frankie said in a hushed tone, trying to get his friend to sit back down, but Santi pulled his arm away and continued talking loudly about you.

"I just wanna grab them and kiss their stupid mouth. They talk so much, and I want to hear what they have to say, I really do, but I just can't stop looking at their mouth." He stumbled, Benny caught his arm.

"Come on Pope, have a seat man." He urged, laughing a little at Santi's antics.

This time Santi did sit down. He sighed heavily and took another swig of his beer before looking over at Frankie.

"Ok then pendejo, why haven't you done anything about it then?" Frankie asks, drinking from his own bottle.

Santi shrugged, "they don't want me like that."

Santiago Garcia was smart, strong, and quick-witted, but in that moment, he was an idiot. He didn't know you were standing on the other side of the partition on the patio. You were listening, feeling the heat rising to your cheeks. Santi wants to...kiss me?

"But have you seen their ass? Oh my...it's so-"

"Santiago!" You said finally, cutting him off before he could say anything to embarrass himself further.

He turned, face full of surprise, yet somehow his eyes were still hooded from his drunken state. He pressed his lips together tightly, realizing you'd walked in at just the right wrong time. Your arms were crossed over your chest.

"I think we should chat." You gave him a playful smirk, to which he gulped, not knowing what was in store for him next.

hi, i visited your dream town!!! it's so cute, i actually wanted to ask if you had any tips for designing rooms and shops because i love the cluttered look too but have a hard time balancing both clutter and function if that makes sense! 💌

YAY i'm so glad someone has actually visited! ☺️ i think my biggest tips would be to draft things in room designer so you can play with a lot of different layouts without having to collect/craft furniture, be creative about the kinds of partitions you use, and prioritize creating at least 1 walkable path through the whole room (or more, if that's what you want)

here's an example, i really wanted to make this small room look like a full sento complete with a reception area, and a closed off changing area and bath area while still making it possible to walk through the whole build. using the simple panels as room partitions gives a little more space for the furniture needed for a bath area, using the closed off bathroom & changing room furniture pieces communicates the idea using minimal space, & using some hanging norens & signs helps somewhat close the space off without using the big partition walls. using accent walls, rugs, and custom flooring can help separate the space without sacrificing tile space!

adegoke: movement

so adegoke's character playlist actually has a different hozier song on it (from eden) which i always imagined to be more from MC's perspective. 

for adegoke, i love the idea of romance like the push and pull of the ocean currents, waves meeting and breaking, a rhythm. and movement just gives me that, i guess! adegoke is also a deeply creative person and movement really gives the vibe of the lover as an inspiration, a muse, which i think would be something that he would totally relate to. as a writer, love is at the core of his work - even when it isn't the subject it is what he finds grounding. 

adegoke also loves to dance (and is an excellent dancer) so that particular expression feels so appropriate. 

arthur: angel of small death and the codeine scene 

this one is quite literal, i guess - arthur is a mean little weasel and it can be a challenge to find the sweetness in him. i think arthur defaults to an "i can make them worse" approach to romance which i think this sort of speaks to.

also his family are terrible and he often feels like a bit of a stray, i think. 

atticus: NFWMB

this one has been pulled straight from his character playlist because its just So ???????? musically it just reminds me of him but i know nothing about music so i have no idea how to articulate it - the sort of unassuming and almost casual vibe contrasted with the utter devotion in the lyrics. the emotional intensity comes from the lack of fanfare, you know?

also like. atticus loves a hair pull, sort of sexy possessive vibes and a rhetorical question so the "ain't you my baby" really hits on that level as well lmaooo 

avery: it will come back

this is another one that is already on avery's character playlist hahaha what can i say i'm a hozier bitch!

this choice is really about avery's complicated relationship with softness and intimacy, especially in a romance with MC which is Forbidden when she places such an emphasis on her professionalism. the way that she partitions different parts of her life is something of a defense for her after her difficult experiences in medicine - she's learned the hard way, she knows better, and yet she just can't help herself. i always think of avery's romance as being like a dam bursting; there's nothing for a long time until a little crack forms and then the dam breaks and everything falls apart. once she has a taste she can't be satiated, which i think this song speaks to. 

charlie - sunlight

he just can't keep away, even knowing how totally disastrous it will probably be for him, but he continues on gladly because he thinks that being that close to the sun will feel worth it even after it's burned him. he's 'death trap clad happily'. 

ellis - almost (sweet music) 

i did a deep dive into ellis' who playlist on patreon way back when and (surprise surprise) this was one of the songs that features on their playlist. this was actually one that i didn't say too much about because its just a bop, you know??? there's the lyrics about their foolish heart, but otherwise this song just screams ellis at me and i never really know why its just a warm fuzzy good vibe and that's them all over. 

florrie - take me to church 

a song thats an endictment of catholicism And fucking???? all the ingredients to make up a solid florrie song. there are a few lines that give me big florrie energy (she's the giggle at the funeral / knows everybody's disapproval / my lover's the sunlight / get something shiny) but in general i imagine florrie would fare well being worshipped, i think that's a great dynamic for her, so this is reflective of that. 

griffin - someone new 

i don't think this one really needs much explanation - griffin falls fast and hard and often. he's my romeo, and every bit as naive.

beyond that, i do think that griff is someone who doesn't believe there's a Right Way to go about things and he's quite happy to muddle through life and always seems to land on his feet - a great person to help someone really uptight unwind hahaha 

imogen - my love will never die 

of all the characters, imogen is the one who is most likely to get on her knees and beg someone to love her. 

also she loves flowers 💐 

nyra - to be alone 

this one is also pretty literal lmao i am many things but i am Not a deep thinker. she doesn't love crowds, and i think the thing that nyra would value most in a partner is having someone that she can be alone with, if that makes sense? one of those special people that you can hang out with and still have the regenerative effect of alone time. 

when we meet nyra in body count she's in the midst of a really hard time in her life - we're at a real low point for her. she doesn't really feel like a person, she feels like a zombie dragging herself from one day to the next. she needs to work through that on her own (falling in love doesn't Magically Fix People), but i think that her relationship with MC would give her a few little sparking reminders to help guide her on her way. 

rowan - jackie and wilson 

again soz this is on her character playlist hahaha! this is an absolute rowan anthem for me - she is my roman candle of the wild. i mean obviously this song is so fun and that is Very Rowan, but the "better yet, she wouldn't care" particularly speaks to me. rowan is very much someone who can meet people where they're at with grace and understanding and help to build them up. 

syd - work song 

syd was the hardest person to match a song with, weirdly, but it was the second verse that really cinched it (and I was burnin' up a fever / i didn't care much how long i lived / but i swear i thought i dreamed her / she never asked me once about the wrong i did). syd is a hard person to Date because they are a fuck up! they don't always get things right or know the right things to say or make the right gesture. that said, if someone can work through the initial challenges with them, they would be rewarded with endless devotion (albeit expressed in their own funny little way). 

vinh - in a week 

lying down and dying together in a field to be eaten by animals is peak romance to vinh lmao. in general, i think once they find Their Person it will be someone that they can feel at home and happy with regardless of the situation, and there isn't much that they wouldn't be willing to endure as long as they had that.

[INTERVIEW] 221020 Vogue Korea - IU “Looking back on the past occasionally makes it more meaningful, doesn’t it?”

IU in Seoul, IU in Milan. Is she the same or different?

At ‘Vogue’, many photos were gathered of IU, Korea’s first female solo singer to have a concert at Jamsil Olympic Stadium then visit Milan as Gucci’s global ambassador. IU said, she asked herself, ‘How about this?’ and she started enjoying herself more.

Q: You attended the 2023 S/S Milan collection show as Gucci’s global ambassador. Was there anything memorable for you about the collection? Any look or item that you liked?

IU: The moment I entered, I felt that the showcase venue was small and cosy. There weren’t many seats either. Then in the middle of the show, a partition wall in the centre of the stage was lifted and I realised that it was like a decalcomanie and there was another show on the other side. The twin models who were walking on their side of the stage met in the middle and held hands as they walked. Whether visually or symbolically, it was an interesting performance. I like overalls and this season, there were overalls! I wonder if they have it in my size? I got excited.

Q: During the ‘Twinsburg’ collection this time, 68 pairs of twins appeared on stage. The mother of the creative director, Alessandro Michele, is a twin so it came from his own personal experiences. I think artists need to have the ability to not bypass little experiences in their lives or miss out on the opposite side of the lives they have become accustomed to and turn that into art. I think the way you tell stories through your music and the unique way you express yourself through your lyrics is an example of that. How do you convert your daily experiences into music? Do you observe or make notes or think on the flip side?

IU: I’ve actually been making fewer notes than before. I still write in my diary, but I’m not as obsessive about writing in it anymore. It’s like, ‘The words to remain shall remain, or else just forget them.’ It’s been awhile since the days when I tried hard to cling on to thoughts that are worth becoming items. (But when I work on my full-length albums with more tracks, I’m clearly going to cling on reluctantly again.) Nowadays, there are many artists that write lyrics by themselves that have character. I’m also the type to stick my flag (TL note: stake my claim) on mainly themes I’m good at writing and can hang on to for a long time. I’m hooked on ‘patterns’ and ‘rules’ these days. I’m gradually starting to realise that I’m someone who lives with many rules in my daily life. I get stressed when something falls out of place too. I wonder if I’ll be able to infuse such ideas in my music in future.

Q: We did the ‘Vogue’ cover photoshoot in the house of a Milan collector. It was a house filled with pictures and antique furniture, right? What’s your house filled with? Are you surrounded by them now as well?

IU: As I receive this question and look around me, I realise that I do have a number of pictures in my house here and there. I mostly spend my time in my room and in my room in particular, I have many pictures gifted to me by friends or my fans who drew them by themselves. There are pictures amazingly drawn on canvas and many sketches from my friend’s studio. Perhaps it’s because I have zero talent in drawing, when someone gifts me with a meaningful piece of art, I feel really touched. It contains the affection, time and effort of that person. The pieces that are really precious to me are gathered at one corner of my room. During my concert this time, there was a section that reproduced that part of my room too.

Q: Other than 2020 and 2021 when Covid-19 was severe, you’ve been putting on solo concerts every year since 2012. What does it mean to you to be able to have face-to-face concerts with your fans?

IU: It’s a celebration party with my fans after a year of farming. It’s difficult to replace a concert with another event. The fans who come for my concerts will clearly know what I mean.

Q: Your first solo concert in 2012 was ‘Real Fantasy’ right? Do you still remember what your first concert was like?

IU: I don’t remember it vividly, but of course I still remember it. I did a nationwide tour for my first concert. From gathering concert audience, to maintaining my condition, putting things in action, to ensuring that the tension stays up during my concert each week instead of weakening, I was at a loss about everything and felt scared. I blamed the producer a little then for not guiding me on what to do and asking so much of me from the start, but after my concert this time, I thought to myself, “Thank you for raising me to be strong” and contacted the producer separately too. What’s encouraging for me is that my parents who came to watch my first concert 10 years ago and said, “The stage seems too big for you to fill on your own” back then, told me this time. “The stage that extends beyond 100m does not look big at all.”

Q: The concert you had in September was really amazing. You were the first Korean female solo singer to have a concert at Jamsil Olympic Stadium, right? With about 90 people on stage, about 1300 staff making preparations together and about 80,000 fans in the audience. I’m curious about your overall thoughts on the concert.

IU: I felt, ‘I enjoy the stage more than I thought. Things really work when many people put their hearts together. I’m working with some really amazing people. I have a really great life.’

Q: In the teaser video on your ‘dlwlrma’ YouTube channel, you said, “I want to leave a mark in concert history.” Did you manage to achieve what you hoped for?

IU: Yes.

Q: Director Jo Hyunwoo who worked with you from the 2017 ‘Palette’ concert to the 2019 ‘Love, poem’ concert, as well as the 2022 ‘The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun’ concert, shared his thoughts on what a ‘perfect concert’ means to him. Usually when IU starts singing, the audience becomes quiet and only participate actively during the sing-along parts, but during your Philippines concert, the audience cheered so loudly that you couldn’t hear the music in your in-ears. You responded that, ‘A perfect concert means differently to different people. That was a perfect concert in a new way.’ In what way was the concert this time perfect?

IU: Despite the 3 year gap, not only me, but I felt that everyone was clear about their roles. At each position, it had to be that person. This concert was not a tour and there were only two days, but if I had the chance to go back again to that day, I would not have been able to make it any better.

Q: How did you feel when you fell asleep the night before your concert? How about after the concert?

IU: It was raining a lot the night before the concert and we didn’t manage to complete the run-through rehearsal, so I went back after work that day with an unsettling feeling. My backup singer who could tell how I felt sent me an image of ‘You can do it ability’, so I thought to myself, ‘That’s right, I’ve done everything I can. It’ll work out somehow’ and posted that image on my Instagram story before lying down in my bed. After the last day of the concert, I went for the after party. They didn’t make it obvious the whole time, but perhaps because the staff mostly felt pressured by the large scale of the concert, many of them were crying. Telling each other that they did well, it was the best, thank you for working together. Exchanging words with each other, I felt a surge of love for mankind that night. I got home late at night and read the concert reviews and felt overwhelmed with emotions which was something I had not felt in quite awhile. I think out of the concerts I had done, it was the concert with the highest level of audience satisfaction. That itself was enough to compensate for everything.

Q: This concert was described as a “musical or Olympics opening ceremony”. In particular, the highlight was the hundreds of drones that formed a picture in the sky. What’s the stage equipment or effect that you were most into? On the contrary, was there anything you had to compromise for practical reasons?

IU: From the performance perspective, I think it would have to be the hot air balloon that went up as I sang ‘strawberry moon’. It’s something that the concert director insisted on strongly since the first meeting. A few months before the concert, together with a few key staff members, I went on a trip to Buyeo for a test run and that was how much we anticipated the hot air balloon performance. It would move depending on the wind direction, so it was very much weather-dependent and I thought I didn’t have a fear of heights at all, but once it went up by more than 10m, I couldn’t sing and whenever it wobbled due to the wind, my heart sank. As I was close to the fire, it was really hot to ride it in summer too. The director expressed his concerns (with a firm expression I had never seen from him in the many years we have worked together) ‘Just. Believe. In. It.’ I’m glad I did. The audience really liked it. What I had to compromise with was time, of course. From when the title of the concert, ‘Golden Hour’, was confirmed, we set the condition that ‘with the sunset as the background, we had to start the concert at 7pm sharp without missing a beat’. But for an outdoor concert, we couldn’t drag it too late into the night. So it was a shorter concert than what I used to do and we prepared for a runtime of 3 hours.

Q: What was a great hurdle for you for this concert and how did you overcome it? On the contrary, what was the most exciting part?

IU: The biggest hurdle was myself. Since a year ago, my ear has been giving me some issues. If I sweat a lot or produce loud sounds for a long period of time, a muscle in my ear rattles and opens up and sound seems to echo loudly inside. As I was preparing for my concert, I trained myself well and made great improvements, but it had been awhile since I stood on stage and on top of that, it was the biggest stage in singing career, so many complicated thoughts were running through my mind. I just kept practising. If my ear opened up, sounds became unclear to me, so I was cautious about singing loudly and afraid to do so. Even if it sounded weird to me, I would just sing it out aloud first and record that and listen to it again, trying to find a way to control it. As I kept doing that, I started to regain my confidence gradually. It can get worse if I go too overboard, but for now, I’m safe. Aside from my condition, the moment I decided to do a concert, I tormented myself and struggled with thoughts like, ‘Would I be able to fill such a large stadium?’ Whenever I had weak thoughts, I remember telling myself, ‘Hey, this is the Olympic Stadium, even if you can’t eat (handle) it, it’s a Go’ to make myself bolder.

Q: After your encore stage, ‘Love poem’, you said, “There’s an issue with my ear, so I nervously prepared for this concert. I could barely hear properly today, but I could sense the support from all of you.” You must have been taken aback when you first heard the diagnosis of your condition. How did you feel back then and how are you accepting it right now?

IU: After hearing the diagnosis, I was firstly glad that it wasn’t an issue with my hearing per se. Since my job requires me to use my voice a lot, although I was at a loss of what to do, I think it was a chance for me to have more humble feelings about my health and this job that I love. When none of the worst case scenarios I imagined happened and I managed to pull off my concert successfully, I’ll never be able to forget how thankful I felt at that point in time. After the articles went out, I was contacted by many people. I even received messages from seniors that I did not have their contacts. There were more people around me with this condition than I had thought. As we use our ears and throat a lot, many singers revealed that they faced the same issue and shared their encouragement and their own tips with me. I also helped those who asked me for help as much as I could. From the perspective of someone who stands on stage, the bond of sympathy and support that we shared gave me the reassurance that I would be able to recover quickly. That was another episode that I was overwhelmed with a love for mankind recently.

Q: During your ‘The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun’ concert recently, you started off by singing ‘eight’ without any accompaniment. You’ve mentioned before that it’s a song you want to sing during sunset and something you’ve been planning for a long time”, but what was the reason that you decided your opening for the concert to be this way?

IU: ‘eight’ was a song that I released when I was 28, during a time of Covid-19 blues and a sense of powerlessness myself, when I was tired with everything. As I couldn’t have face-to-face concerts during that time, I wasn’t able to gain strength from the audience. So when the field of performing arts started to become active again, I felt that if I were to hold my concert, I would have to sing ‘eight’ as the first song powerfully and mark an end to the times I felt tired of everything. It’s the only song that has never changed its position the whole time we were deciding the setlist.

Q: During your concert, you said after singing ‘Palette’ and ‘Good Day’, you would be excluding them from your setlist in future. You said, “Now that I’ve turned 30, you’re welcoming moments as good as you felt back then. There’s no reason for me to hang on to these songs anymore.” Over time, you’ve also graduated songs like ‘Marshmallow’ right? It’s not easy to let go of your shining history, is there a reason that you need to graduate your songs? I think it shows your growth as well.

IU: I think looking back on the past occasionally makes it more meaningful. As I work hard to release new songs, I would like to avoid a similar structure to my concerts every year. There’s some misinterpretation in the way it was reported in the news and although they will be left out of the key pieces that make up the regular setlist, during encore or with a freer atmosphere, I can still sing them if the audience requests for them. It’s also my will to continue to produce new songs to fill the empty spaces of the songs that have graduated, so I hope my fans don’t become too disappointed because of that.

Q: It seems that your choice above is influenced by you turning 30. Are there any emotional changes for you as you begin your 30s?

IU: I think it’s a time that I break free from my obsession that things have to be either ‘this way or that way’. As I start thinking to myself, ‘How about this?’, many things have started to become more enjoyable for me. I’m enjoying life, these days.

Q: With your concert over, you’re left with the release of your movie ‘Dream’! You started filming for it last spring, right? Besides ‘Dream’, what other projects do you have lined up?

IU: I would like to show a more relaxed side of myself. I’m always telling my fans, “I want to become uaenas’ hobby.” That’s my flow (TL note: how I’m doing things) these days too, whether it’s an album or other pieces of work, rather than breathless stories, I want to tell warm stories that allow our hearts to relax.

Complex social dynamics of kaiju for my fan timeline idea brainstorming posts

With long lived kaiju I oddly don't see tangle webs of alliances in many works

Rodan

Inspired by Marc Cerasini novels of having the main Rodan being a mother and my own past ideas for Rodan, Rodan is a semi-social species of varied appearances but no sexual dimorphism, led by a negligent matriarch.

Rodan young are incredibly self-sufficeint, but Rodan will come to the aid of her young if they are in the area and allow them to fly with her.

(Inspired by Scott Ciencin's novels), the Rodan matriarch is a long time associate of Anguirus and will discipline her young that harass the spiny kaiju. The two have been observed to sometimes just rest in the same general area.

Relationship with Godzilla is contentious willing to fight against a common enemy, but will otherwise attack eachother on sight. Oddly, neither seem to aim for a killing blow. (This part mostly my own idea and expanding their first encounter dynamic from Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster)

Rodan are intelligent creatures that begin refine hunting strategies and prey preferences soon after hatching, having intraspecies niche partitioning. As such, some have developed a taste for humans while others have not. Individuals vary greatly in the level of danger they represent to humanity, and in what circumstances they are a threat. But few if any will attack a lone individual human once they grow enough in size.

(Mixed partly with the Power Dragon of Hanna Barbara) My idea is a scavenger and high altitude hunter, that possibly weaves in and out of strange pocket dimensions in the clouds. The main predator of young rodan.

An ally of Godzilla that feasts from his kills, and not hostile to humans (and rarely coming down from high altitudes in their cities, so does not even cause slipstream damage very often) aside from when enraged by strange energy signatures, but also one of the mysterious Battra's few allies, coming to Battra's aid against other flying monsters.

Tiamatos

[bear with me, really took a lot of creativity with this one]

(based on monsterverse Tiamat). A monster that can be summoned by humans replicating ancient devices, Tiamatos was the adoptive mother, or at least a mentor of many ocean monsters, generally after slaying their parents.

This allows her to bring a surprising number of kaiju to her aid that she trained into hunting partners.

She culls the oceans of rivals, while gaining allies where she can.

[yeah I wanted to do something with vocal mimicry and the Mother of Monsters thing, thinking she could be Megalon's momma and makes use of him the few times she comes into conflict with humans instead of going too weird like Monsterverse comics did and giving her hydrokinesis. I like her but she has too many powers at once]

Kamerus

Few kaiju have as much a knack at making unnecessary enemies as this the turtle-like monster.

Kamerus is a crafty creature, playing dead and waiting out opponents to get what it wants. The large turtle has learned to attack fishing trawlers for an easy meal, making the beast a huge problem and spurring the sale of “kaiju detectors” of dubious functionality. It is a relentless raider of other Kaiju's nests, even shockingly climbing cliffs like a rock climber in order to snack on Rodan eggs.

Possessing a bizarre concealed stinger on its tail, Kamerus has been able to drop even Godzilla with its poison in the few times they brawled.

However, largely they have developed a strange bond with Godzilla, paralleling Godzilla's bond with the monster Anguirus on the opposite side of the globe. However the few times Anguirus and Kamerus have met Godzilla had to separate them as they quickly started fighting.

Ok so this is less of a request and more of a thought to consider. It bothers me that Danse doesn’t really comment on vertibirds going down/crashing/finding dead brotherhood in the commonwealth. It also bothers me that Hancock doesn’t really say much during the synth quest in Diamond City. Idk I feel like there’s a lot of potential dialogue that’s missing. Like Preston commenting on a settlement that’s been “improved” (hit all requirements for water, food and defense) should also be a thing.

What would improve Fallout at the level of dialogues? Yeah, I realize I can't put all I wanted because it would be monumental, and even if I wanted to make (somewhere) a monumental post, it would require a lot of effort to determine what could have been done for the companions and etc…

Knowing that Fallout 4, which contains some of the most fascinating and colorful companions in the franchise, has a major scenario gap, I wondered how to fill it, what struck me, and what was missing—and it's practically unlimited. Many authors have written fanfiction on dialogue-worthy situations.

Dogmeat - Elder Maxson - Gage

Dogmeat : He's a dog; he doesn't speak, and he doesn't judge. Without mentioning dialogue per se and despite the fact that he is more of an anthologies than a companion, I've always believed he should have had his own quest. But I will not go there (sorry, lol, but time does not stretch to infinity, and if we do not wish to extend this topic to infinity, I must make a decision). Here, I will merely present a theory that has already appeared in one of my fanfictions.

"He was known as the Lone Wanderer. He, like Nora, came from a Vault, although he grew up in the shelter. He was motivated by the same desire to save everyone, which began with his father. And, like Nora, he had a dog."

MacCready's gaze shifts abruptly to the clinic. Dogmeat has been watching over the place since I returned his mistress. I'm not sure what Mac was staring at. He appears to have difficulties swallowing. The dog looks at him as if he understands something—whatever that is.

"Da... holy... aye!"

"What?"

"Are you kidding me? Dogmeat was the name of the Lone Wanderer's dog."

I paid closer attention to the dog. He yawns in our direction before lying down in the dry grass. I couldn't stop chuckling.

"How long ago was that?"

"Around the year 2277."

"So, it's possible."

The coincidences are striking, but occasionally happens inexplicable. We look away from the dog, who appears to be uninterested in us.

"After all," I say, "the Sole Survivor and the Lone Wanderer both knew the Kid."

He gives me a puzzled look, then appears to comprehend.

"Is that me, the Kid?"

"That's what everyone refers to you as. Isn't it better than a mercenary or a gunner?"

"Not sure," he contends softly.

Elder Maxson : We all know what didn’t stand here. How could he accept we have settlements with ghouls and even synth. And just the fact he never says a word about the fact that Sole is the General of the Minutemen! And a Super-Mutant as companion! As I already do the Strong thing with Danse (not ready yet), I will just make something in the range of the dialogue of Preston when we want to join the Minutemen after Nuka-world.

"Paladin, you can retire. I desire a private conversation with the newest member."

After a final glimpse in Sole's direction, Danse walks away from them as they shrug their shoulders to indicate that they don't understand the situation anymore as he does. Maxson makes a sharp turn and gazes out the bay window of the deck while facing the horizon.

"Before entering potentially perilous territory, I conducted investigation on the happenings in the area and what information was crucial. It is unacceptable from a military perspective to be oblivious to the terrain in front of you; therefore, I am aware of who you are and whom you are protecting.

"Who exactly am I?"

The elder confronts the knight by facing them directly and gazing them in the eyes.

"Minutemen's General. Having under their protection communities overwhelmed by ghouls."

"Sir, we are not discussing ferals; we are discussing citoyens of the Comm—"

"Mutated abominations that will one day become monstrosities in their entirety."

Sole clenched their fists. They are able to accept a great deal from the Brotherhoods, and they are even able to share a portion of their vision, but in this case, it exceeds all reasonable expectations.

"You aren't allowed to bring your lethal arsenal onto our territory and tell us how to live our lives."

"I am capable of doing so, and I have to! You must recognize that those creatures pose a threat to the human race in order to safeguard yourselves."

"You must acknowledge that you don't possess the absolute truth, and that you cannot judge every person who walks the earth."

Maxson exhales a sigh and approaches them while maintaining an almost regretful expression.

"I comprehend what you are thinking; you believe I am moving into hazardous terrain and overstepping the line. I comprehend what you are telling to yourself. Alternatively, this is the point I am attempting to convey. Humans have been toiling and giving it their all for the past two centuries in an effort to survive in an environment that has become increasingly hostile to their kind. Many individuals believe that the golden age of humanity has passed and that the time has come to recognize that other species have the right to share the world with us. There are even pro-Super-Mutant advocates. In the short time that I've been in command of my organization, I've encountered a wide variety of situations, the extent of which would surprise you. But if there is one fact that stands out above all others, it is the human race's constant decline. You use the term tolerance, whereas I prefer the term assimilation. Slowly but systematically, mutated creatures transform humans, many of whom are already so irradiated that they cannot prevent mutation. If we continue to disregard certain issues in the name of tolerance and redefining the human race, we will no longer have a human race to discuss. To put it simply, this is why we, the Brotherhoods, fight every day for the survival of the human race at any cost. We don't only make friends on our quest, but you have to understand that permitting ghouls to exist, no matter how friendly they can be, is a choice that puts the entire species at risk."

"You must realize that if you bring this kind of mentality with you, you will in fact start a full-scale war with the Commonwealth!"

Maxson maintains his composure for a moment while frowning, and he appears to be deeply troubled by what the person in front of him has just said. He makes a nagging sound and then dismissively elevates his hand.

"At this point, I don't believe I would get through without someone like you, as you seem to be such a vital asset. I have high expectations that you will be able to understand what I am attempting to convey to you during your service. Surely co-owning more healthy human beings will help you better understand our vision. If you do not, you will be forced to make a more definitive choice sooner or later. Dismiss!"

Gage (romanced) : Gage lacks a scene with Sole when Sole betrays the Nuka-World raiders. Gage says nothing about their love affair when the Open Season adventure begins. It’s awful—empty.

"Why? What's the point of biting the hand that feeds you? Why would you turn against those who have given you everything?"

"You knew from the start that my position was unenviable; you didn't want it yourself. I would have ended up on the table one day or another like you had fed me with Colter as my first meal."

Gage sighs and takes a few steps towards Sole.

"I was honest. I had complete faith in you and your ability. When I said we'd go far and conquer the Commonwealth together, I meant it. I wanted to give you everything in the world. I gave you my heart!"

Sole pauses and lowers their weapon.

"I didn't want that at all. There is yet hope. Porter, you're a wise man. We could leave together, and instead of plundering the Commonwealth, we can serve it. We may build up an enviable niche there and retire quietly when the time comes."

Gage slowly shakes his head, a small grin on his lips.

"Do you hear what you're saying? Put me to work for the Commonwealth? The Commonwealth should come to my aid! There is no such thing as retiring for those like us, Sole. The only time I'll see for you is when I take down your damned carcass and watch it rot in the Nuka-World sun."

When Alya had told her about the boat, she hadn't completely believed her. Now that she was in front of the Liberty, she had to rub her eyes to confirm they weren't deceiving her.

Juleka really lived on a boat! So unexpected!

It was Friday evening and she had no idea of how to ring the bell. Was there even a bell in the boat? Before she could confirm whether there was or not, the gangplank access opened and Juleka's mother welcomed her onboard.

"Hi there! You must be Marinette. Welcome aboard!" She yelled excitedly. "I'm Anarka Couffaine, Juleka's mother, but you can call me Captain"

"O-okay?" Marinette nodded, a little taken aback. "Hello Captain, it's nice to meet you."

"Now get in, I'll call Juleka to take you to her room." Anarka guided Marinette inside and a moment later Juleka stepped out of her room to meet Marinette with a mumble she guessed that meant something like "hello," or "welcome," and "follow me."

Juleka's room was small, very purple and gothic styled. Marinette noticed there was another room with a partition, now opened, with a completely different decorative style. A Jagged Stone poster grabbed her attention. Anarka cured that curiosity of hers before she dared to ask.

"That's Luka's room. Juleka's brother"

"You have a brother?!" Marinette asked Juleka, who shyly nodded. "I had no idea!"

"The partition can be closed whenever you want. You don't have to worry, he's not going to disturb you," Anarka pointed out.

'There will probably be nothing to disturb anyway, if Jukeka doesn't speak a word to me…' Marinette thought.

"Get Marinette's bed ready and we're eating in a moment, okay?" Anarka said, leaving the room after seeing both girls nod.

They prepared a supplementary bed for Marinette next to Juleka's, and she put her bag in one corner of the room. Next, at dinner time, Marinette was surprised there were only three plates on the table.

"Luka is not eating with us tonight or tomorrow night," Anarka explained, filling a bowl of mysterious looking soup for her. Was it edible…? 'No wonder Juleka is so skinny!' she thought. But thankfully…

"I brought bread from my bakery, and some macarons to thank you for having me," Marinette offered.

"Thank you," Anarka said, placing a reassuring hand on her daughter's shoulder, who was panicking and feeling ashamed she didn't bring anything when she visited Marinette's home. Neither Marinette nor her parents had minded it.

Dinner was lively with Anarka's stories, but Marinette had the impression Juleka was dying of secondhand embarrassment. She found it fun, though. Because they were made up stories, right…? No way she could make cars flip because of a loud sound wave coming from big speakers…

After washing the dishes with Juleka, Marinette found herself looking around the boat. She couldn't deny she was curious about the lack of family photos, noticing only one which didn't include Juleka's father and she was a bit blurry in it. She supposed it was best not to ask.

And things… didn't go much better than they went at the bakery. At least not at first.

Sure, living on a boat was something else. Marinette asked about everything she could think of, got a bit dizzy with the water swaying when other boats moved close by, and wondered how many tennis table balls may have fallen to the Seine from the back upper part of the ship. Juleka mumbled some answers, but shrugged most of the time instead.

Communication didn't work out. And the baker's girl didn't know what to do anymore.

It was that night, before going to sleep, when she finally exploded.

"If you don't want to talk to me just tell me! I'm trying to be friendly, Juleka, but I can't understand anything you say! We're supposed to work together for this project!"

And she did it… Juleka ran away, crying. And she stood there, like a fool, not knowing what to do.

They went to bed without exchanging a word, Jukeka curled with her back towards Marinette.

Why did she have to be paired with Juleka? This was a total disaster…

Late at night, unable to sleep, Marinette went outside and climbed to the highest part of the ship to look at the Paris Skyline from over the river. The lights glowing bright during the late night, the moon reflecting on the water and the Notre Dame in sight from a different angle than she was used to… she found herself tearing up.

Suddenly, soft music met her ears. An acoustic guitar, she recognized the sound. She looked downstairs, below her, and she could see a silhouette. A street light illuminated the person and she saw… blue?

The blue hair she had seen in Juleka's family photos… Juleka's brother.

She let herself get lost in the melody. Surprisingly, it seemed like it had healing powers.

"You must be Juleka's project partner, right?" he finally asked, not stopping playing.

Even his voice was calming. "Yes, I'm Marinette."

"I'm Luka, Juleka's brother. Everything okay with Jules?" he asked, as if he could see through her. She shook her head.

"I… I think she hates me…"

"Why do you think so?" He paused his playing.

"I… I yelled at her…" She shrugged. "I've been trying to talk to her, spend time and do activities together, become friends… but she won't speak to me. She mumbles something I can't even understand and stays quiet, distracted, or glued to her phone… I don't know what to do anymore… I didn't want things to be like this…" she confessed. "Ah—sorry! She's your sister and—"

"I know Juleka is not easy, especially with people she doesn't know well. But you know? She was very excited when she told us about this school project. She was looking forward to getting to know you more. But she's very shy and gets easily overwhelmed. I'm sure she didn't mean to make you feel bad."

"Really…?"

He assented. "She said she had fun at your house"

"S-she did…? But—but she didn't talk to me or tell me what she wanted to do! She always had that serious expression on her face, as if she was bored!"

"She told me she felt the warmth of your family. That she felt at home. She isn't a greedy girl. Seeing other people have fun around her brings her joy, even if she's not good at showing it."

"But…"

"She said she was very happy you liked her pajamas. And she really liked how you braided her hair," he assured. "She was very nervous because our house isn't like yours. She was worried you might dislike how humble we are, or mom making you uncomfortable."

"I would never! Your mom is funny and I find it fascinating how you live in a boat! I think it's very cool!"

"Is it?"

"Absolutely!" she exclaimed. "And the view… the view is breathtaking. I really like it. I just… I wish I could be having fun with Juleka instead of having a fight…" she lamented.

"This can be easily fixed, you know?" Luka strummed his guitar once again. "You two want the same thing. If you regret what you said, you just have to apologize and tell her how you feel. I'm certain Jules feels the same way, but she's both shy and stubborn, so it will be hard for her to take the first step. If you apologize first, she'll open up immediately, you'll see."

"I… I think I'll give it a try." Marinette nodded. "But she's asleep by now. It's late…"

"Then you can tell her tomorrow."

Marinette nodded again, letting her mind wander in Luka's music. "Thank you, Luka."

"You're welcome," he hummed, slowly strumming the strings of his guitar.

"Can I come and listen to your guitar a bit longer?"

"Of course."

She descended the stairs as she smiled. Was this what it was like to have a big brother? He seemed very caring and supportive. Juleka was very lucky. She sat down next to him and listened to his music.

"I like this melody. What song is it?" Marinette asked.

"This is how your heart song sounds to me," he said, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

"Do I really sound like this?" She blushed when he assented. The song was beautiful; it warmed her heart. "It's beautiful…"

He hummed again in agreement, and she couldn't help it but blush more and feel a swarm of butterflies in her stomach as she stared at his handsome profile. Only when her heartbeat got louder than his guitar, she stood up in realization.

"I-I should go to sleep. J-juleka—" she stuttered. He stared at her a little confused, but soon offered her  a soft smile that made her melt.

"You're right. Let's go to sleep." He nodded. "Good night, Marinette."

"G-good night, Luka."

She rushed inside, fast, keeping up with the rhythm of her heartbeat, and went directly to bed. That first encounter with Luka had been… wow. Why was she so flustered? And the butterflies… She couldn't be falling in love at first sight, could she?

Her feelings disagreed.

It was when she heard a sound of footsteps close by when she realized: Luka was sleeping next to her! Behind the partition!

She didn't feel like she was going to be able to sleep anymore.

Usually if it's a passion project it's dupe's... She does most of the writing. The project with Sven is mine. Catharsis also mostly written by me. It's really impossible to neatly partition who's totally responsible for what creatively. I'll pick at things hoping it entices her to come front and end up just Accidentally Working On It. She'll edit things late at night after I've mentally clocked out or prod with passive influence. I'll edit things when I'm drawing her script. there are some where the work between us was too equal to come down on one side. Not to mention what cocon can do to "who's doing what"... Even if it's clear who is drawing, it's usually a lot of rapidfire mental exchanges that disappear out of memory as quickly as they appeared, and credit for ideas is lost in the ether. The only story I REALLY am trying not to touch at all is the one with drake. Credit sometimes just goes to the one who was agreed upon to have "custody" of the story and get the final word on conflicts about it

I have a lot of feelings about the Chibs-Whittaker era that I've kept bottled up since it started. Can I throw a tantrum? I'm gonna throw a tantrum.

This era feels like a retread of Davison's. It was an age defined by its lack of emotional involvement, lame stories, lifeless companions and an overqualified lead actor in a really, really stupid costume.

Three seasons in and she never got more than one good story, never got to really act, never got to *be the Doctor.* She doesn't have a memorable moment like Tom Baker's brooding banter at the beginning of Pyramids of Mars or Capaldi's fiery speech to the Zygons.

The Thirteenth Doctor never had a set personality or moral code from one scene to the next, only a series of passing quirks that never really informed a character. And the stories, oof. In place of new adventures, nearly every episode was steeped in continuity mining and weak moralizing with no consistent philosophical or emotional core. Her stories weren't backed by ideas, just watery centrist pandering to a fanbase that abandoned the show in droves in 2013. If we were lucky, we might have gotten a Magic Schoolbus episode where the Doctor pined about how important this or that historical figure was, or we might get to watch our favorite monsters be dragged out to wander around and talk for a whole episode.

Jodie Whittaker was miscast for the Doctor Chibnall wrote. A lot of people let Jodie off the hook for her underwhelming performance, but that's unfair to Chibs and the other writers. Davison, Capaldi and Smith were frequently strapped with shit dialogue and managed to sell it. Jodie never did.

Was this the worst era in the shows history? Probably not. The 80s are pretty much unwatchable, the early First Doctor stuff is rough and the movie is probably best left as a foot note. But for some reason I can't quite define, this one stings just a little more. Is it the wasted historical moment of our first female Doctor? The disrespectful lack of effort on the creative team's part? If someone else feels the same way, maybe you can help me find some words for this.

Remember when the Doctor decided it was more merciful to let a room of giant spiders starve to death than just shoot them or find them a new home?

Remember when the show fumbled the Partition of India story and totally let the British off the hook?

Remember when the show sided with Amazon against unions?

Remember when they squeezed the laziest gay romance in TV history into the very end of the era so it could be quickly erased?

Remember when they cast a black woman Doctor but just made her reenact a David Tennant episode and didn't bother to give her a personality or a purpose?

Remember series 12 and 13? Wait- no. Me neither.
