Introductions Pt. 2
You continue your introductions to the stuck Dark Angel.
Warnings: drug use, Some one being stuck in a pit caused by shoddy construction.
Summary: You try to help the Dark Angel that seems to be stuck in the pit.
You took another drag, it was a big one. The cheery red glow of the joint flared, and then spent an embarrassingly long time, coughing your lungs up. Joints were always a crap shoot. The two red lenses you could see from the pit kept locked on you. Whoever, or whatever, was down there, called out again, id unnerving deep voice sound more like gravel then words. It made you feel a bit floaty. Then you started again.
“ Okay, okay, I’m good. Let's try to get a better look at what going on.” You  manage to gasp as you fight to get your coughing under control. Slow clumsy hands searched through your inner pockets for your cell phone and then got the flashlight going. You edged to the side and a little forward to get a better angle and then shone the light down into the pit. There was a light feel-good atmosphere that beckoned you towards the edge, but you very carefully kept back. The last thing you needed was the two of you stuck in the pit.
It was definitely taller than you had expected it to be, the pit was also deeper. Looking down you noticed that the bottom of the pit seemed to be the concrete foundations and mechanical greebily bits, that presumably made something work, you also noticed that the dark green metal boots had broken though the concrete below him, which explained why the dude was so much lower than you expected him to be.
You have a better look at the… Marine? It had to be one, you had never seen one in person before, but this was not one of the blue ones with gold trim that you saw on TV. it had to be a marine though, nothing else that you could think of really had that refrigerator shape. He was a dark forest green, and he looked like the embodiment of the phrase ‘visual noise’. The light of the flashlight shone off of chains, small bits of paper with red seals, and some almost monk-like robes. Watching the armour lean back in an attempt to look up was almost adorable. Your high mind could not help but think of a medieval beetle. Smirking a little you started looking around, it looked like his boots had only cracked through to the calves, and given the way he shuffled a little he had some movement.
“I don’t suppose you can move your feet can you?” You asked it rhetorically, the Marine seemed to whine a bit before grumbling some sort of comment of his own. You resorted to charades, pointing to his feet and then lifting your feet up exaggeratedly before flashing a thumbs up with a smile or a thumbs down with an exaggerated frown.
Obligingly he flashed the world’s most awkward thumbs up, seemingly confused at the motion before lifting up one foot as demonstration. As soon as he placed it on top of the cheap prefabricated concrete, the concrete started to crack under his foot, and then it broke through again, with a nasty sounding crunch.
“Okay, bub. You just hang tight there I guess, not much we can do just the two of us.” You looked down at your cell again, no service, of course. “We’ll have to figure something out.” Which was unfortunate for him because you were definitely more than a little high and a quick gaze around confirmed that no one else was around to be the responsible one.
“Just a second.” You tell the Marine, signing for them to wait, in the forlorn hope that they possibly know ASL, given the grumbling in ever increasing volume you assumed they did not. Your book clad feet crisply walked towards Russ’s house. It was where you were going anyway and where you knew people would be gathering. Kristy would be there, and Kristy was organized and responsible enough to deal with this. You had just made it to the road when you heard what sounded like a chainsaw kick up and the pop and snap of buckling concrete behind you.
Do you turn around to check in on the Marine, or do you  continue to Russ’s house to get help?

Here's a fun creative exercise: The Legend of Korra but make it isekai!
On her way to meet Korra and team Avatar, Jinora finds a mysterious book in her room.
Tumblr media
Unbeknownst to her, the book had been left by one of Wan Shi Tong's spirit fox helpers. Intrigued, she browses the pages as she joins the group when, suddenly, a flash of light emanating from the book blinds her and a portal opens, swallowing her friends. Her eyes glance back at the previously blank pages of the book that now feature images of her friends and panic, she realizes they've become part of the book and have been transported to a different world she can't recognize. Now the question remains: where have Korra and the others been transported?
My answer is:
Tumblr media
Hint hint, here, the world where another legend is being forged.
Why? I mean, I love both TLoK and Vox Machina and both have legend in their titles, but jokes aside, the Krew would be a good fit because Korra could be either a paladin like Lady Kima (certified badass) or a ranger like Vex'ahlia so she gets to keep Naga.
Tumblr media
This but Korra and Naga
Asami? Our favorite engineer is a perfect fit for the role of artificer. Bolin? He would have a lot of fun as the barbarian of the team. Mako? Paladin, of course, and just for the heck of it, I would throw Kuvira in the mix as the team's rogue.
And how could I forget! Janet Varney makes an appearance in both series.
Tumblr media
Here's Janet as Vilya of the Air Ashari showcasing elemental powers. If I had a nickel...
But what about you? Where do you think Korra and her team traveled? I'd love to read your takes!

apart from looking AMAZING, this is such a cool and creative exercise!! By separating elements of a character design, you automatically have to pay attention at the details and think about which dualities are in the design.
If you look at Rarity's design, the 2 you might make of her are less obvious, as she has just purple hair. but look closer, there is a difference in her inside and outside hair.
Also the way of dividing the cutie marks up is so cool?? The way u divide them in multiple ways: some cutie marks have way different parts/components, that u just separate to have multiple. (E.g. Twilight, Starlight, Rainbow) Sunset's cutie mark is also divided in this way, but since the 2 suns r originally meshed together, it seems less obvious. I'm just obsessed with how u worked it out. Then there's the ones that have 3 of the same shape (Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack), that here are divided into 1 and 2. Makes sense. U kinda only have to decide which design gets 1 and which 2. The difference in separation styles in cutie marks is also close to the difference of how abstract the cutie mark originally is.
I also love how Twilight is 3 ponies. 1 for earth, 1 for pegasus, 1 for unicorn. And that also makes 1 per each color in her hair. Neat.
And the way eye components are divided too.. muah

Creative Exercise 2 - BTS
Here are a few of the photos I took on my phone of the production design to show the smaller details :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I absolutely loved working with India and this whole shoot is something I’m really proud of. A lot of the films I’ve worked on haven’t had the kind of set design I’ve wanted to make, which has been really interesting in their own way but very modern and minimal where I couldn’t explore a lot creatively.
With this project I was able to experiment with lots of clutter and different moody lighting techniques which I’ve wanted to do for ages :))

Date Mishaps
a misunderstanding about where they would be meeting, so both are waiting at a different location
a last minute emergency means they have to bring someone else with them on the date (e.g. child, little sibling, pet)
they were absolutely not dressed for the weather and end up getting completely wet in the rain
one of their phones is dead and they can't reach each other
even though they had reservations, the restaurant is closed
one of them gets hurt on the date, which makes them end up in the ER
they met online without a proper picture of each other and they keep missing each other at the bar, not able to find out who their actual date is
the waiter was supposed to bring a dessert with an engagement ring to the table next to them but brings it to them and now the awkwardness has reached new heights
they are doing speed dating, but unfortunately they already know each person of the other sex that is there
a date on a boat is nice until a swan attacks and someone falls into the water
they are both not local and they keep getting lost
their boss/parents/friends are also on a date in the same restaurant
one of them gets called back into work for an emergency and their date insists to walk them there
they thought they would have a date with someone else and are confused by who actually shows up

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.
most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.
it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies féileacán is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Πέμπτη are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.
and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).
i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.
grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.

12 Writing Exercises to help develop your character and their voice.
Editors note - There's a lot of boring writers drivel. So, to spare you from the headache if you're not interested, your characters individual voices and personalities are important for engaging stories and interesting plots. You can skip down to the end for the exercises.
Think about the people you know, the people you love. What's one thing they have in common, besides the obvious? They're all uniquely different. Everyone in the world is different in some way, even in media. Books and movies all have unique sounding characters that are different from each other. In Harry Potter, for example, All of the characters have their own voice, even the Weasley twins are different in their own ways.
Complex and unique characters that sound different, interact and speak differently, make for engaging books and dynamics.
I don't know anybody who would want to read a 50,000 word novel about two boring characters, who're exactly alike, and talk in the same monotonous tone. You can have a character who is "boring." who speaks monotonously and still have an interesting novel that people would read.
Having different characters who come together to create funny, interesting, or weird dynamics makes for a readable piece. Take your monotonous character, by themselves, they're kind of boring. They're not engaging to follow. But, introducing different characters to come and interact with your "boring" character, creates funny and memorable dynamics.
Think the anime Saiki K, or Veronica Sawyer from Heathers. If you took only those two characters, and stripped away all of the background characters, they wouldn't make for very interesting stories. Saiki would be happy, living his days in peace and quiet. Veronica would just be a normal edgy high school girl. But if you bring the side characters back, you bring the story and their conflicts back. Saiki goes back to being annoyed by his weird and goofy friends, wishing for peace and quiet. Veronica goes back to being tormented by JD and the group dynamic in the Heathers clique.
These stories utilize background characters to create conflict in their main characters' lives, and makes fun and interesting stories and dynamics with them.
Without further ado, here are 12 exercises to help you develop your characters, and get you thinking.
Ask your character what they want, and have them monologue about it.
Think about who, in your life, does your character remind you of.
Ask yourself, What does my character want, and what does my character need? How do they conflict with each other, and how does this affect my story?
A good exercise to help you write characters interacting, and practice dialogue is to do the ABCD exercise.
The ABCD exercise is writing a full page, or 500 words, of dialogue between two characters, character a and character b, talking about what they think character c thinks of character d. Then, write another page depicting how character c actually interacts with character d.
Write journal entries from the pov of your character.
Think about your character's habits, nervous tics, or tells, and write out a page where they do those things.
Think about something your character holds dear to them, and give the item a backstory.
Think about how your character interacts with other characters, and write a page for each interaction.
Think about a belief or opinion your character has, and write a page of dialogue, where your character is explaining their belief, and why they believe in it, to another character.
Write a page about your character reminiscing, or talking, about a cherished memory from their past, or childhood.
Write a page of dialogue about character a telling character c about character b, whom c has never met before, what kind of things do they say? What do they think of b? Then write another page from character c’s point of view, what are they thinking? How do their thoughts of b change? What do they think of character a? How do they imagine character a and b’s relationship?
Write a page about a character being forced into a situation with their greatest fear. Then, if you want to go a step further, write a page of the same thing, but introduce another character that the first holds dear to them, or wants to protect.
