hey im sorry but absolutely none of those picks in that article were stupid LOL. the norris is always the defenseman who puts up most points — this is not a new phenomenon. we all understand this to be the case. and even disregarding that, hughes is the odds on favorite this year and he's been stellar on both ends of the ice. the selke is not for 'guy who plays shifts on defense occasionally when my coach has no other bodies to throw back there' lol. i think marner does deserve a few selke votes and it won't surprise me if he gets them but it's notoriously difficult to win the selke as a winger because centre is the more strenuous defensive position! it's been over two decades since a winger won the selke and i do not see that changing — selke is sasha barkov's to lose with bergeron retired, but matthews is a strong two-way player despite him only really being lauded for his offensive play and the numbers back that up. of course he'd be up for the selke, why are we confused here? and among goalies hellebuyck is the favorite to win the vezina because in addition to a good record and save percentage he's also without reproach in more advanced stats like gsaa and hdsa like this is not.... this is not a controversial pick lol

the way voters operate for nhl awards, there's always going to be some aspect of name recognition, and that can be frustrating! but by and large this year the most controversial award is likely going to be the hart, which you didn't mention — it'll almost certainly be mackinnon even though kucherov has just as strong (and maybe even a stronger) case.

Reading the athletic article guessing nominees for NHL awards and they're sooooo stupid like... the Norris isn't best d-man its now just the defensemen that have the most points. And putting Auston Matthews up for Selke? Sure he does well but his teammate has literally taken shifts AS A DEFENSEMAN and wasn't considered????? Vezina is just win loss and save% ...I don't know it just seems like they don't even watch the game anymore just pick the big names with lots of points
