ok so there's an evil scientist named Doctor Neo Periwinkle Cortex, and together with his lab partner Doctor Nitrus Brio he hatches a plan to take over the world by mutating animals into super soldiers.
He purchases a set of islands off the coast of Australia and begins experimenting on the wildlife. He has some success, creating various sentient anthropomorphic animal mutants with superhuman abilities. Among the experiments is Crash Bandicoot, who is set to be Cortex's general. There's also Crash's girlfriend Tawna, and his sister Coco, who through the experiments becomes a super genius.
Cortex uses a mind control device called the Cortex Vortex to brainwash his minions, but something goes wrong when he tries to use it on Crash. Crash and Coco escape, and in a bid to save his girlfriend, Crash ends up demolishing Cortex's base and foiling his plan, nearly killing Cortex. All the other animals also escape in the chaos. From then on, Crash and Coco mostly just try to enjoy their lives, while going back into action whenever Cortex has a new scheme.
The whole franchise has a very 90s cartoon vibe, which I find very charming. The rogues gallery is quite extensive, and has a lot of fan favourite recurring characters, including other mutants like Dingodile and Tiny Tiger, other evil scientists like N. Gin and N. Tropy, the alien Nitrous Oxide, and Nina, Cortex's niece. The games are largely a metaphor for pollution, with Cortex's influence symbolizing the waste and corruption brought by industry as it erodes nature. As you progress through the games, the levels often transition from lush jungles to harsh industrial environments as you venture deeper into Cortex's territory.
The series has changed hands many times over its existence, originally developed by Naughty Dog and published by Universal Interactive, who held the rights. Universal Interactive merged with Vivendi, which was then purchased by Activision, which then merged with Blizzard, and was then purchased by Microsoft. Other developers who left a lasting impression on the Crash franchise include Traveler's Tales, Toys for Bob, Vicarious Visions, and Beenox.

And for the Spyro and Crash gang members' personalities in your AU, what are they like?
I will start with the Spyro Gang, as a really old post of like 2020, I started with a base and later started to shape their personalities:
Spyro: He's mostly a self-caring dragon which only cares about his physical and actually a very narcissistic behavior (very similar to Skylanders Academy behavior and Spyro the Dragon). He's already a hero alongside Crash for saving the dragon kingdom from Cynder's Corruption (the past) and with it he and Crash became famous and heroes so people always say good stuff to them and Spyro rising his own pride, he works as influencer/streamer btw.
Ember: She's sensible and very innocent, the kindest dragon you would ever met. She works as fashionist (outfit designer) and her bestie is Tawna as she works along her side. She is an extrovert like Spyro, a loving and caring mostly for others specially for Cynder as she alongside Flame tries to help Cynder to have a better social life and go outside home. She loves going shopping, usually never goes alone bc Flame is always there to be her guard.
Flame: He's usually shy to meet new people, he's pretty unsecure around people, thinking everyone is judging him. To prevent those thoughts, he's a very good athlete and acrobat! He tries to not look like a fierce looking fire dragon like his father and bloodline, but with the exception to hurt, but be a protector of his most loved ones. He has a little issue, he might look self-confident, but he's really easy to manipulate.
Cynder: The deepest lore I've got for her is pretty tough. She's an introvert, after her corruption and being a Dark Dragon, people around the city is scared of her or even tho just bully her and reminds her what she did, outside is a nightmare for her, judging eyes, whispers, blames, etc. Ember and Flame try their best to protect her from those people and judges by replying back, in Spyro case is not the same than self-proclaim Cynder's savior like if she has to owe him something. She's a gamer, usually play violence games like Doom (lmao), but she has an inner talent that doesn't wanna show, she's a good singer, a good musician specially with electric guitar. She had a crush to someone (I rather people guess) once Spyro introduced his gang to Crash's Gang/family, that leaded her to try to get out of the closet with Crash's family help. Yeah and, she always, always, blames herself on anything, that leads to blame others when she's actually mad at herself.
----------------------- CRASH FAMILY -----------------------
Crash: Being the same crazy bandicoot, he had to put some clothes on to live in the city (bc he was freezing lmao). He's a shameless person that cares mostly for the others he loves, with his loving girlfriend Tawna, they're completely a wholesome couple. Crash doesn't seem like to use his brain that much lol, but either way he has some sense of humor and knows perfectly when there's something wrong, he can't talk, but he learnt sign language (thank you Tawna). Ah yes btw, he works as fashion model, you're welcome.
Coco: Your confident and crazy loving bandicoot, influencer and streamer. Coco have some sort of feelings for Spyro, they're super friends but they have some attraction which Cynder is kinda worried about. Coco's best friend is Ember, both of 'em loves to go together shopping and sometimes with Flame when he's available. She's good at technology and creating machines and inventions, it's like her hobby. She has more brain than his brother Crash but at least she's a caring sister who tries the best healthcare for herself and her loved ones.
Crunch: He's the strongest! Redeemed from Cortex's control (pretty similar to Cynder with Malefor), Crunch is a very caring brother like Coco, caring for his loved ones healthcare. He's gym trainer alongside his bestie Tiny Tiger, he stills learn about emotions to understand physical behaviors that are results of emotional issues. He's very self-confident but never says no to some life lessons and advices, he's your number 1 supporter that will be there for you to love yourself and never give up!
Tawna: A lovely motherlike bandicoot, Tawna is the best at everything and she's very smart that understands life very well. She was always trying to learn something new to use these knowledges to care and help more her family and with it, her loving ones. Tawna works of so many stuff, she is trying always to help everyone and make everyone happy (that's a big issue), volunteer in healthcare, baker, chef, even the most is with Ember as making her outfit designs become real and wearable. Her agenda is very tight, but she never says no to a family meeting, she never shows her stress than her eyebags of restless days. She's friend of everyone and tries anything to help anyone in need, specially for Cynder and Ember.
GOD I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD WRITE ALL THAT DAMN, Thank you man for the question, i'm happy you're interested of this AU even if it's (for now) cancelled. Now I can put this in my personal notes to never forget TwT

Kirishima’s Mystique:Bandicoot Bombshell
Life had been relatively simple and peaceful enough for Tawna, about as well as can be for anyone in this day and age where less than 20% of the population hadn't been born with a quirk. A good family, decent education and a future with possibilities once she' graduate college. The of course along came that absolute douche, one Dr. Neo Cortex, a definitive mad scientist who'd taken to abducting and rounding up any heteromorphy individuals with animalistic type quirks. Just her luck she wound becoming just one of the latest to be taken into the clutches of one of the many groups he had conducting his operations on his behalf worldwide.
It made her stomach churn just even recalling those grim days, cooped up in some cage, dreading the moment when she or any of the other so called "patients" (inmates rather) would be next to get experimented on. Nobody had been sure on the how and why the lunatic was even doing this but all Tawna knew for sure was that the guy was a sicko and it made her dread the possibility any of her sisters would be the next to get poached. That is until one fateful day when she and her fellow prisoners were reminded that in these age of Quirks? There were heroes and one such group of them lead a sudden raid on the lab as if their prayers had been answered.
It had to be a swift few hours of mayhem as the operation, handled by the agency of Pro Hero Fatgum ensured majority of the staff had apprehended while any and all possible assets and evidence was seized. Many of her fellow inmates had been been happy to finally get home but Tawna of course couldn't help but step up to the opportunity to offer to provide information on other possible locations to Cortex's other hidden labs, just to stick it to the mad bastard and hit him where it hurts. In exchange of course for a little extra security such as being relocated to a more private location to call home and the same level of protection for her sisters, for which one of the rotund loveable Hero's sidekicks gladly vouched for. That of course reminded Tawna of where she currently found herself here and now and how down bad she was for her personal saviour.
Eijiro Kirishima codename The Chivalrous Hero Red Riot, aka the man of her dreams, a hell of a specimen for sure. That rugged charm, the Herculean physique, that hot blooded energy, all that and more the moment she'd laid eyes on him when he'd come crashing through the walls of the room where she and the other test subjects had been held captive. Demolishing mooks like nobody's business and ooh the tingly feeling she had when he'd carried her out in his arms like a knight in shining armour, and of course thanks to his seconding her offer, she now had a secure place to call home PLUS a nice steady job working at Fatgum's agency as a secretary. Not to mention she got a chance to see and talk to him any and every chance she got when he was around.
Getting to not only learn a little bit more about him but even finding out the guy was such a hunk that he was dating two girls, at the exact same time?! Well that certainly bumped him up quite high in her appraisal and admiration of the guy and of course said girlfriends Mina and Maya weren't just cute and sexy but pretty damn friendly, you could just feel the love they had for their man whenever they dropped on by for a visit. But of course they certainly seemed to have quite the knack for knowing they weren't alone in admiration of their absolute unit of a man, that was for sure. Which made certain thoughts she had in mind all the more sweeter once the opportunity presented itself.
It'd been just another day at the agency of course, answering calls and sorting paperwork among the other sort of duties expected of a secretary. And for the bandicoot girl, it was opportunity knocking and presenting itself to her in a way that couldn't be passed up. It just herself and the sturdy himbo alone in her office, as ever the gentleman he was in having offered to stay behind and help finish closing and locking the place up. Pretending to sort and organise a filing cabinet as she looked her shoulder to glance at his backside, licking her lips sensually at seeing those muscles flex as he was packing some boxes away.
Tawna:*biting her lowerlip as she rubbed thighs together, feeling the sticky warmth of her flowing arousal, thanking God for the fact that Herculean teddy bear's outfit exposed so much of his torso.*"Have I said thanks already for going out your way to make time like this, helping me out here? I know you had a busy enough day and wouldn't want to keep your lucky ladies waiting..."*Speaking up to break the comfortable silence between them as she closed the cabinet shut, standing up as she carefully snuck up on him. Pulse racing as she inched closer and closer to that angelfaced, shark teethed Adonis who'd made her wet dreams cozy and intense. Her knight in muscular armour.*
Kirishima:"Hey it's no problem, they kind of had some last minute intership stuff they had to finish up on their end so they said they might come over whenever to meet up, so..."*The chivalrous himbo's sentence hit a pause as he felt Tawna's furry arms wrap and hug around his waist, her fingers caressing his six pack abdominals (though if you asked Mina and Maya, it was more of a 9 pack, a baker's dozen even!!). Joined in tandem of course with the sensation of her soft, exquisite shirt clad breasts pressing against his shoulder blades, no doubt thanks to her having a 2 inch difference over him on height. And damn did they feel like marshmallows, so warm to the touch as he found her leaning and resting her head on his shoulder, kissing and licking along his neck. Making him blush and shudder as she began to whisper in his ear, her voice carrying a husky sensual tone to it.*
Tawna:"Oooh, i'm not just thankful for that, handsome. I don't even think words just cut it for showing how grategul I am....the day you came barging into those cells, carrying me out like saving a princess from the dragon's tower. Not to mention going so far as to keep my sisters safe and sound. Guy like you these days is one of a kind, really just...does something for a girl..."*Her every word out of her deep, pouty lips made his spine tingle, her hot breath blowing into his ear. Nuzzling his neck as her hands massaged and memorised those firm upper body muscles of his, before fishing down to his pants. Stunning him as they dove right down past the waistband to cop a full direct fell of his junk as an awed, erotic gasp escaped her. Clearly she knew he was packing but this was far beyond even her wildest fantasies.*
Kirishima:*groaned as he was unable to help himself, the blood rushing to his groin and his length and girth began to swell and grow in her hands. The bandicoot hottie pressing her lips to his as he fund their tongues dancing together, spit being swapped as she jerked and stroked him off.*"Ahhh damn... you really don't have Ms.Tawna..."*He was right about that but of course she wanted to so very much express and show her appreciation to her knight in muscular armor the way she felt was more than fitting. Sucking on his tongue before she pried her mouth away from his as she kissed and licked down along his front.*
Having moved from her position behind as she orally worshipped his Herculean torso, hands tracing and massaging those muscles as she felt her jean shorts soak from her nectar flowing down her glorious furry thighs to make a puddle on the office floor. Grinning with anticipation as she was squatting down on the floor, hands undoing the waistband of his pants as she pulled them down along with his boxers. Jaw dropping and eyes widening as she laid witness to his cock springing forth into the open air to stand to attention, spine tingling with erotic thirst at seeing that his manhood was far more bigger than she'd guessed from her touch alone. Her brain going from seductive to flipping the switches for bitch in heat mode as she wanted to taste and ride this cock until her chivalrous himbo made it impossible for any other man or any toy to be capable of satisfying her.
An impulse she didn't hesitate to follow through on to say the very least she immediately began conducting intense fellatio upon that length and girth. Head bobbing like some lewd metronome as she licked and sucked on that fuckhammer with abandon of her inhibitions and shame, his groans and shudders music to her ears as she gazed up at him with her green eyes glowing lust and worship like he was some sex god coming to bestow her with the best lay of her life. Gladly feeling herself suffocate from her attempts to deepthroat him as her tits pressed and rubbed against his hips and thighs, one hand massaging his smooth balls while the other was plunging down the front of her shorts to probe and prod her gushing wet slit, feeling her juices soak it up to the wrist from how horny she was. Wanting, just needing her chivalrous stud to ride along the wave of ecstasy with her, just let loose and have his way with her.
Did he ever do just that as Tawna's lust was contagious, setting off the heroic intern's inner caveman enough to make his libido take the helm of his brain as she found him grasping her luscious blonde mane and proceed to piston and jackhammer away. Giving the bandicoot hottie an proper oral preview of what her pussy would come to experience as she orgasmed from such a sudden but not unwelcome facefucking, her pussy squirting like a showerhead with intense orgasms as her brain wondered if it could get any better than this. Deepthroating that length and girth as her choker snapped, drool spluttering as those heavy balls smacked her chin, making her feel like a glorified onahole. And it was so fucking hot.
It certainly got better and hotter as after a nice feast and shower of his hot manjuice, the bandicoot babe and her sturdy caveman himbo were naked with that still amazingly raging hard and down to fuck meat-hammer finally inside her. And oh was it rocking her world all the way down under, seeing stars as pink hearts glowed in her eyes as the office filled with echoes of her cries and screams of erotic passion. Deep throated gasps and panting moans escaping those dick sucking lips as she shamelessly bounced and rode on that Riot Stick cowgirl style, her caveman smacking and squeezing her bouncing bubbly booty ats his cock hammered away into her womb. Her smooth toned furry tummy swollen with the bulge that indicated the reach and depth of his length and girth filling her as her spine tingled from every blow from that assclapping, veiny womb pounding piece of heaven.
Heaven was she she found herself as her fantasies became outdone by the unreal and amazing reality of ecstasy that flooded and overwhelmed her brain. Her shark teethed himbo Adonis relentless as if considering focusing on her pleasure and hers alone with all the dedication to a mission like any pro would, seriously could this guy be any more of a turn-on? Here she was rewarding him for being such a chivalrous hunk of a man and he was thinking about her enjoyment, Criminy was she glad she didn't bother with the condoms!! She was going to have every and any bit of that white hot baby batter inside her and give him a whole army of furry riot babies if he wanted!!
An idea that passed through the bimbo looking furry hottie's brain more than once of course in between whenever said brain was recovering from orgasm after orgasm as Kirishima definitely proved he was a Riot, on the streets and in the sheets. Any and every position that muscular stamina tank conducted with her a thrilling sensation from the most vanilla to the kinkiest and complicated, with any and every moment he would cum inside her welcomed by womb's eager embrace. The muscles of her pussy molding itself to the shape of his genetic jackhammer as they kissed it with pornographic worship, not wanting to loose its company at least until every ounce of jizz was let pumped in. Her furry bombshell body memorized the grip of his firm hands, shuddering with masochistic bliss from the love bites of those sharp teeth of as they mated and rutted with an intensity and passion that put pornstars to shame.
Tawna could see how and why Mina and Maya got a thrill and open invite for girls like her to enjoy their stud, he was too much for one woman, let alone why he had 2 girlfriends. Now gladly counting herself among those lucky to get their dose of vitamin Kirishima as she howled and hollered with abandon through out the office, cheering him on to keep fucking her like she was his personal sex toy. From being held in a full nelson to pinned up against a window as she was fucked from behind like a bitch in heat to the absolute ecstasy of being bent and held in a mating press or a piledriver. Or clinging to him with her arms and legs wrapped around that herculean body of his as they performed a standing fuck, her tits pressed and rubbing against those firm flexing pecs as his body rippled with strength and power, the pair losing track of time as the streetlights outside provided ambience and atmosphere to their erotic animalistic coupling.
It was enough to make those memories of being captive in Cortex's lab distant and forgotten as the Red Riot stud sat Indian style on the floor, Tawna bouncing on his jackhammering lap. Tongues dancing together in a sloppy kiss as they rode the most recent wave of a simultaneous climax together, bodies sweaty and sore with no signs of stopping. The floors stained with sweat and juices as the office was in slight disarray and reeking of the scent that made it clear acts of pornographic passion occurred here. Only for the duo to pause as their attention was caught, breaking their sexual focus as the lights came on.
Turning in the direction of the sound of the click of the lightswitch, eyes wide like deer in the headlights as they now found themselves caught in the act. Joined now by the company of the familiar pink and blue bubblegum duet that was Kirishima's frisky, kinky girlfriends who were sporting the sauciest grins imaginable. Clearly liking the show they walked in on and looking about ready to jump in nd make it a foursome as they stepped in and parted to reveal they hadn't come alone. Tawna's eyes widening and her jaw dropping as she felt like she was looking at a mirror, or rather one that showed a version of herself with some sort of Mad Max style make-over.
Tawna 2:"Now I know what you're thinking besides could this be any more or less awkward right now? To which I can answer, let's just say that there was some cloning involved...."*Something told the blonde that the arrival of this mohawked doppleganger meant her life was about to take an interesting turn. Also call her narcissistic but damn she looked good. Wondering if maybe her twin here might enjoy a little Red Riot experience herself down the line. Time would tell, oh yes time would tell....*
To be Continued?!

Original Universe
Crash Bandicoot:
The relationship between Crash and Tawna is an extremely cute couple since Crash saved Tawna from Dr. Neo Cortex. However, years later, Tawna was gone for unknown reasons, perhaps hanging out with her friends for years. Someday, he'll see his girlfriend again, but he has to save the world from Dr. Neo Cortex. In Crash Tag Team Racing, this is where he met a possum girl named Pasadena. Even though she basically has a crush on him and does weird, flirty things with him, we figure out that girls like Crash because of his handsome good looks. However, Crash is 100% not interested in her romantically. He only likes her as a friend because his real love is Tawna. I really don’t know how Pasadena feels about that, but I just hope she moves on from it.
Spyro The Dragon:
The relationship between Spyro and Elora would have been extremely cute, as they teamed up to defeat Ripto. At the end of the game, Elora thanked Spyro with a kiss on the head. Despite their strong bond, Spyro missed his chance with Elora. They always found a way back to each other, remaining the main love interests in the series until Elora disappeared. Later, Spyro encountered a female dragon named Ember, who developed a crush on him. She mentioned engagement rings and thought Spyro reciprocated her feelings, but he only saw her as a friend. It seems Ember really needs to move on for Spyro.
Alternative Universe
Crash Bandicoot:
The relationship between Titan Crash and Yaya is unknown but cute, in Nitro Kart 2-3D, it seems like Yaya asked Crash for help because Nitros Oxide wanted to take over her home. Crash accepted the mission, and after saving her home, Yaya thanked him (hoping for a reward like a kiss). Despite this, it's puzzling why Yaya didn't appear in Crash of the Titans and Mind Over Mutant. We may never learn more about her, but I understand the desire to ship this relationship if they remake the game for Yaya Appears.
Spyro the Dragon:
The relationship between Spyro and Cynder is strong; they share a good connection. Spyro first encountered her when she was under the influence of Malefor's poisonous powers. After defeating her, she was freed, and Spyro took on the role of caring for his friend Cynder whenever she was in trouble. Years later, the two dragons teamed up to save the world from Malefor. It seems they have a deep bond, with Cynder expressing her love for Spyro. However, the ultimate conclusion of their story remains unknown.
Even though the game's Director stated that Spyro and Cynder are friends rather than a couple, fans are still shipping them. (It raises the question of why similar fan enthusiasm isn't extended to Titan Crash and Yaya.)
In the Skylanders series, the relationship between Spyro and Crash with the girls is unknown. In this version, Spyro and Cynder are best friends, and I'm glad that Crash can talk and is portrayed as very smart. Additionally, Crash and Tawna are good friends without being portrayed as a couple. Overall, it's important to remember that this is a kids' game and show.

As far as I know there isn't any backstory in Crash 1 as to how and when Tawna became his girlfriend and I know the Doylist explanation is that they just wanted a token love interest to drive the plot but I find myself enamored by the mental image of them as just normal-ass bandicoots pre-canon in the lab munching fruit together and that's entirely it. What if we were just a couple of lab rats and we hung out

Since Brok the InvestiGator is recently out in consoles since March 1st this month, where I'm thinking of getting it for Nintendo Switch, and the fact Crash Team Rumble got a release date being June 20th this year while the pre-order bonus is an access to the Closed Beta on April 20-24 next month, I drew this crossover pic to celebrate the occasion.
Brok and his stepson Graff meet Team Bandicoot, consisting of Crash Bandicoot, his younger sister Coco, their adopted older brother Crunch, Crash's girlfriend Tawna, and Aku Aku, at the Wumpa Islands, I bet they're going to get along just fine.
Drawn on ibisPaint X on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

what happens in the sonc ass bazooka games. i have never played crash bandicoot. i have two cash banooca cartridges (one for either gba/ds and one for switch) but i have only touched the switch version for five seconds. what happens in the sonic's ass games
absolutely thrilled at the first sentence of this ask. crash does get a bazooka btw i dont remember if ive said that yet
UM OK SO in the first game crash is an experiment by dr cortex to try and make an army of super-furries but the brainwashing fails on him so crash bails and then realizes "oh no i left my girlfriend :(" so he goes All The Way Back to fight cortex and rescue tawna (who then didnt appear in any other games for a very long time)
gameplay-wise, you go through a bunch of levels with different themes (jungle, water, spooky bridge, spooky castle, ancient ruins, toxic waste factory, etc) and break boxes as you go to get gems that unlock optional side paths and a 100% ending. crash can only take 1 hit before he dies but he can collect masks to give himself an extra hit or two and if he gets 3 masks then he becomes invincible for a bit. it sometimes gets described as a sidescroller but Forwards? bc the level design is very straightforward and corridor-ish, but i never found it feeling too restrictive or anything
in the second game cortex is like HEY. CRASH. I KNOW YOU HATE ME BUT UHHHMMMM GET ME 25 CRYSTALS OR THE EARTH IS GONNA BLOW UP :( NOT BC OF ME THO IM GONNA FIX IT I SWEAR and crash goes 👍 and then finds out that actually cortex is lying out his ass and needs the crystals to power his orbital space laser. and then crash blows it up
this is also the game that introduces warp rooms as the level hubs!! bc crash 1 had a Map you'd traverse (which crash 4: it's about time brought back) but a lot of crash games starting with 2 have rooms with portals you go through and i like the crash 2 warp room a Lot because each level entrance is subtly styled based off of what type of level it is! like uhh the ruin levels have an entrance that looks kinda like the statues in it, and each floor of the warp room has a different visual aesthetic that matches the different level themes (snowy, sewer, space, space 2 this time with a jetpack, stream, statue ruins, s... sforest. Man)
the third game is the one i Actually Owned As A Kid and its got TIME TRAVEL !! WAOW cortex and his buddies are messing around in different time periods trying to get the crystals Again so crash and his sister coco have to try and get them first! i like cbc3 a lot, its really fun, also it's the one where crash gets a bazooka. and a motorcycle. and a plane. coco steals a tiger
(it also introduces my FAVORITE VILLAIN GUY, dingodile!! i was very bad at his bossfight as a kid)
HOWEVER the one that ive been mentioning me playing on here is the switch remake of Crash Team Racing, which is. not like any of those. because those are all collect-a-thon platformers. CTR is a kart racing game. with the plot being... what did i tell sion hold on
(i also owned the original as a kid and i was obsessed with it about as much as i was obsessed with crash 3. i was also very terrible at it so its very fun having the remake as an adult and having the nostalgia plus "oh im way better at this now")
uhhh after that it's like. crash gets an evil brother named crunch that barely gets to do anything after he becomes a good guy (he cameos in twinsanity and like. talks in titans ig? he doesn't really contribute to the plot. and gets possessed in mind over mutant.), cortex accidentally pisses off some birds from another dimension that are trying to take over the multiverse so he has to work with crash For Real This Time, cortex makes a bunch of really powerful mutant furries and builds a giant robot to do .. something..? and kidnaps coco and then gets upstaged by his evil-er niece nina (and everybody got redesigns that are very polarizing. im still mad that tiny got changed from a tasmanian tiger / thylacine to a normal tiger), cortex manages to mind control everybody but crash with vr headsets (i guess?? i didnt play those last two) so crash beats him up and the cutscenes have a lot of different art styles which is kinda cool, and then the current developers (bc crash keeps getting tennised around between developers) decided to roll all of that back and made a new timeline branching off of crash 3 where cortex and his time travel buddy n. tropy break time and space and crash needs to collect the quantum masks with power over time and space to fix it (and also tawna is back! except its an alt dimension version of her and shes super cool)

Crash Bandicoot (1996) Review
Playstation as a brand has always been rather strange to me. Despite being so iconic and played by so many, the company as a whole doesn't seem to have much of a coherent identity. Most Nintendo games, by contrast, feels very interconnected into one larger brand. That's because Nintendo games all strike the same target audience, that being difficulty-light family friendly games with cartoonish graphics with generally downplayed storytelling in favor of a gameplay-first mentality. That's not to mention the frequent crossovers between them.
Playstation, meanwhile, prides itself on all of it's exclusives just like Nintendo does, and yet all of their exclusives feel so distant from one another. They publish games of various genres with wildly different tones and core focuses. While there are many people who are fans of Playstation as a whole, Playstation generally feels like it goes for a scattershot approach to gaining a market. Rather than hone in on one audience, they'd rather become a jack of all trades. While that decision was certainly successful, it kinda leaves Playstation without anything in particular to latch onto to represent their core brand. Look no further than Playstation All Stars for proof of that what I mean.
I think that's the main reason then that Playstation doesn't really have a definite mascot of any kind. While some might argue Kratos or Sony Cat or Astro Bot or fucking Knack, none of them really feel like mascots to me, and that's largely because Playstation hasn't really been pushing them as mascots. Playstation doesn't want a single smiling face to represent their brand like Nintendo does because a single smiling face simply does not represent the bulk of the games they publish. And I guess that's fine.
However...
There was one time they tried to use a single smiling face to represent them.
Released in 1996, one year after the North American release date of the original Playstation, Crash Bandicoot smashed onto store shelves. This surprised me somewhat. I didn’t grow up in that era, so I assumed that Crash Bandicoot was a launch title for the Playstation. The game was developed by a (at the time) small studio named Naughty Dog under the supervision of not Sony, but Universal Interactive. Y'know Universal? The movie studio Universal? Yeah, they had a games division apparently. Despite that, the game was published by Sony so Universal acted more as an obnoxious middle man. However, Universal owned the rights despite Naughty Dog creating the characters and Sony publishing and marketing them. However, that's a story for another time. What’s the game itself like?
Crash Bandicoot is a linear level by level platformer where you play as the titular Crash Bandicoot. The plot goes that after a mad scientist named Dr. Neo Cortex evolved Crash from a normal bandicoot, he was planning to use a mind control device on him called the Cortex Vortex so he could use Crash as the general of his army of other mutated animals in his quest to rule the world or something. The machine failed and Crash escaped. However, Crash’s girlfriend, who was also evolved by Cortex, is still in Cortex’s castle and we need to save her before Cortex uses his machine on her. That’s about it when it comes to the plot. It may sound like a lot the way I described it, but ultimately it’s a pretty simple damsel in distress plot. That damsel in question having a.. rather questionable character design, I’ll say that much. Apparently while developing the game the marketing director told the developers that Tawna was a sexist character design, but the developers refused to listen to her because Tawna was meant to appeal to the “same kind of guys we had been 5-10 years earlier”.
kids game btw
...
I have no comment. Let’s just move on to the gameplay.
The gameplay is a 3D platformer, one of the first of its kind. Immediately out the gate, you realize that the game has no analog controls. Back when Crash was released, the original Dualshock wasn’t. So we’re playing with the D-Pad only. That may sound bad, but the game was designed around the D-Pad, so it actually makes the jumps more reliable than if you remapped the controls to the stick. Immediately after you realize the controls, you also realize the camera. It’s fixed. I personally have issues with depth perception in 3D games, so fixed cameras are normally a bad sign for me. That said, I actually had no issues with the camera in this game outside of a small handful of moments.
As for how the game actually PLAYS like? Well, it’s a platformer. You have two buttons: jump and spin. The jumping feels really nice. It’s floaty, yet precise. I always felt pretty confident even when making scary jumps. It gives you a lot of midair control and it hangs in the air long enough to comfortably undo a jump if needed. That may make the game sound easy, but this game is anything but. This game is HARD. It has plenty of good challenges in its level design and only rarely does it feel unfair, at least when it comes to the platforming. As for the combat, it’s another story. Our other button, spin, is a simple attack where Crash will spin in place to damage enemies. It’s not very good. The attack is inconsistent in whether it’ll hit the enemies and it’s just generally not very effective. I mean, for the most part it works perfectly fine but there are certainly occasions where you’re like “Oh come on, that attack should’ve landed.” However, even if you die you don’t have to worry too much. The game has well spaced out checkpoints- not too little to make you have to repeat tons of progress but not too many as to ruin the challenge. The game does have a life system though. For a game this challenging, worrying about lives is dumb. Fortunately, they do seem to give you plenty though. I wouldn’t know however, because FULL DISCLOSURE: I had an infinite lives code on. Call me a pussy all you want, but I don’t like life systems. They stress me out too much, and I am not someone who needs MORE stress in her life.
Next, I suppose we need to talk about the boxes. Every level is filled with tons of breakable boxes that contain Wumpa Fruit (essentially coins). Sounds standard, however in this series they have secrets hidden behind breaking every box in every level, alongside the process of collecting every single optional gem. For the first game, I didn’t do that. Sorry, but that does not sound fun in the slightest. In the first game, you have to break every box without dying in every level, not to mention finding hidden keys and colored gems to access additional levels and secret paths in normal levels to find more boxes. It sounds like a headache, and it’s all just for a joke ending. I will give them this though: If I was a kid, I would love the extra replayability this would bring. However as a slightly larger kid, I don’t need that replayability. Honestly, I’d be happy just replaying the game while ignoring the gems, because I had plenty of fun just doing that. There is one big problem I haven’t mentioned yet though: the save system. In this game, the only way to save is by clearing these Tawna bonus rounds. That’s already annoying, but the game also seems to have some baffling system as for how that actually works? Like sometimes they won’t let you into these rounds? I don’t know. I avoided using this system by just using a save state to reload my game. Other than reloading my save file, I generally avoided using save states.
That’s about all I have to say about Crash Bandicoot. It’s a fairly simple game, but a fun and challenging one. I highly recommend it, at least the PS1 version. I’ll elaborate on that some other time, but for now I'd say the game is well worth playing. It's nothing mind blowing, but it's an enjoyable platformer all around.
Since Crash was one of the first 3D platformers, Sony decided to line up behind it as their primary mascot for this era and they ended up releasing 2 sequels, a kart racer, and a bizarre party game. Maybe I'll talk about them some other time. However, due to Universal's involvement, the partnership wasn't destined to last. What happened with that was complicated, but long story short Naughty Dog and Universal parted ways, Sony lost the publishing rights, and a bunch of complex merger stuff led to a company called Vivendi Games holding the rights, who then merged with Activision, and now the newly renamed Activision Blizzard made it their personal goal to sexually harass every woman on earth until Microsoft said "I want a bite of that" and is now attempting to buy them. There's currently some legal shit going on about whether the acquisition will actually go through due to some lameo "MoNopOly LaWs" or whatevs. It's kinda bizarre to think that were potentially looking at a future where Playstation's original mascot may now be owned by their current biggest competitor. Oh well. I'll always view Crash Bandicoot as a Playstation character, even if that's far from true nowadays.
Not sure how to end this review. That's all folks?
That's all for now at least.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time – Tawna Gameplay Reveal | PlayStation Underground
Overview via PlayStation Blog:
In Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, our heroes Crash and Coco set off on an action-packed adventure across space and time where they encounter more than a few familiar faces from the classic N. Sane Trilogy. One character that we were really excited to shine the spotlight on in this new story was Tawna Bandicoot.
Appearing only in the first game of the trilogy as Crash’s girlfriend, Tawna was the damsel in distress archetype and we never got to really learn much about her. Early on in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Crash and Coco cross paths with a Tawna from what we at Toys For Bob have been calling the “Tawnaverse,” an alternate dimension where she is the hero in her own story. This gave us the opportunity to rethink Tawna and establish a clear new voice for her in Crash 4.
Early concept designs for Tawna.
To make “Tawnaverse” Tawna a fully fleshed out character, we had to answer some core questions about her: How is this Tawna different from the one we already know? What happened to her that made her this way? What are her key personality traits? What does she sound like? If Tawna is the hero of her universe, how would she respond to different situations?
The answers to these questions, and many more, helped us to discover a strong, dynamic & multi-dimensional (literally) version of Tawna that’s fierce and aspirational. What’s even more exciting is that in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time you will actually be able to swing into action as this new Tawna! Joining Neo Cortex and Dingodile as a playable character, Tawna has her own unique playstyle and an exciting new look as well…
A bold new look
As an alternate universe character, we had a tremendous amount of creative freedom to re-envision Tawna. This Tawna is an experienced adventurer, a daring, driven, and confident hero. She needed to exude strength and dexterity, so we looked towards powerful athletic bodies as inspiration for her physique. She is a lone wolf who likes to think that she doesn’t need anyone’s help, and we wanted that to come across in all aspects of her look, from her outfit to her range of expressions.
The many expressions of Tawna.
We iterated on her design for quite a while with early concepts ranging from an Australian outback adventurer, to a tough as nails rock climbing daredevil, before finally finding our Tawna. The quirky mix of her spiked leather jacket, punky half shaved, blue-dyed hairstyle. and bright pink leg warmers shows a woman who walks to the beat of her own drum. Everyone on the art team, from concept artists, to character modelers, to the amazing riggers and animators did an amazing job bringing her to life!
High-flying fun
While we’re super excited about Tawna’s cool new look and the pivotal role that she plays in the story, we’ve also designed an awesome new playstyle and move set for her. Each of the three new playable characters in Crash 4 has a unique way to move about and interact with the world. Dingodile uses his vacuum to give himself an extra floaty jump, Neo Cortex has a speedy forward dash move, and Tawna is no exception.
Equipped with a versatile hook-shot ability that allows her to quickly traverse levels and attack enemies and break crates from afar, Tawna feels as powerful and exciting as she looks. She also has a devastating ground-pound attack, spin kicks, and can reach new heights with her acrobatic wall jump. Playing as Tawna feels fast, fluid, and fresh, while still retaining the precision and intensity that makes Crash Bandicoot such a unique platforming experience.
From the heart
The new Tawna holds a special place in our hearts at Toys for Bob. As game developers, we’re passionate about telling stories and creating characters that delight and inspire. We seek to promote and expand upon the representation of female characters in games, and think that this new Tawna is a complex and aspirational hero that all players will fall in love with. We can’t wait for everyone to experience Tawna when she leaps into action on PS4 in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time when it’s released on October 2.
