As we say goodnight to 2017, I smile at the physical reminder given to me by @charliemontleontattoo, words by @aaronbedard. This year was as beautiful as it was obliterating. January 1st, I decided to stop drinking in an effort to actually cope. I learned to trust the process, to acknowledge feelings and events, and that the only control I have is over myself and my reactions. I’m thankful for the support so many of you have leant. This last month has been tough, with the stresses of work and the holidays. My autoimmune disease has quickly wiped me out, but I have no doubt 2018 will have me bouncing back. That being said, there were so many moments I’m lucky to have truly experienced this last year with a clear mind: picking up weights for the first time with @gvvstrong, seeing @runthejewels with @crankbunny, watching my talented friends leave their comfort zones to own their craft (@arianavictoriarose, @garrett_defalco_t3), Colorado with the @teamskylarchildhoodcancer Crew and @kat_lanzillo, running (and recovering from running), starting work at @blackbird_yoga_studio, receiving beautiful work from @_nachob and @jasonlee, finally seeing the Cubs thanks to @anvil.chandelier, falling in love with Berlin, London Pride with Apple, the look on @ianparkintattoo’s face when he realized who it was sitting in the shop, laughing at dinner with @christianwriva, @aunt_tiff, and @marisa_platitudes until we cried, living Eternal Sunshine with @ciwicki, reconnecting with @et003 and @timtim5oh, @getalongdude singing Guarda Come Dondolo, that Richie Tenenbaum plaque, seeing so many of my friends fall in love with awesome partners, E-coin Launch with @hena, @teamskylarchildhoodcancer and @notjustaboysclub shows, finally seeing @futureislands, meeting @robertfrancismusic, weird YouTube videos of food reviews with @erinvonkupfer and @therealdarthmattingly, and trips to @stormkingartcenter. I know there more times worth mentioning that I’m forgetting- even some of the bad stuff like heartbreak. But isn’t that the point- to love so much of your life that you can’t help but illuminate the parts that are a bit darker so it all seems shining and gentle?

What have you all been reading lately? I've just finished The Night Circus for the third time in a year. This book occasionally creeps up on me and I end up becoming obsessed with it for weeks, rereading bits and pieces (I almost feel I could read it for the forth time already). It basically combines so many elements I adore (fairy tales, magic, ornate imagery, intelligent and strong heroine, historic setting... I could go on) that it feels as if the book was written for me. Head over to my blog if you want to hear me rave more about The Night Circus.⠀ ⠀ I'm already thinking of creating a few illustrated quotes for the book. One of my favourite lines in the book has to be, "Most maidens are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves in my experience, at least the ones worth something."⠀ ⠀ On the back of my love for Erin Morganstern's book, I picked up Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell a few months back (both are set in the 19th century and are based on "rivalries" between magicians) and got through its hefty 1,000 pages very quickly as it is another novel that just captured my imagination.⠀ ⠀ Now I'm on a crusade to find more books set in the 19th century where magic is real. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street, by Natasha Pulley, just arrived this weekend and I'm keen to get reading. Not only does it have these elements, there's a Japanese thread to the story. Not necessarily beauty, but I do have a fondness for indie (in general) and there’s a fantastic sale on, so I figured I’d review a couple of the items I have readily available from Crankbunny. I’ve been purchasing from Crankbunny for around 5 years now and I’ve never been disappointed in the quality and craftsmanship received. The mid paper weight is just right, not too fussy and able to stand on their own. They’re some of my favorite cards to give as a gifts and they basically ensure you can do no wrong (my grandmother was big on the Boston Terrier pop up— she’s dedicated to hers).

Each was packaged well, particular the mask, and arrived within her TAT.

The mask wore well but is hard to see through. I don’t recommend traveling in it. Wear it to your event and display afterwards! The cards have aged well, no fading of ink (the couple not given away are on the fridge and get sunlight), but I did take off some ink off the Fortune Teller card with scotch tape. Overall, I think Crankbunny puts out fun, unique paper craft, and I absolutely recommend them.

THE SHINING 18”x24" and printed with #METALLIC inks!!! Screen Print http://bodega.brianewing.com/search.php?search_query=shining . Today is the 40th Anniversary of release of #THESHINING !!!! Release date: May 23, 1980 (USA) Director: #StanleyKubrick . This print was done as a teaser to my solo show #screamwithme 11/7/14 at @galerief in Chi-City! They should do another show with me! #nudgenudge . I went “a little crazy” on the research for the collage on this piece. I LOVE #Kubrick ’s films and the layers/conspiracies that are snuck into his works. I focused on that part with the collage. If you swipe through you can see a bajillion references to the movie and to the believable & over the top conspiracy theories. The #room237 documentary made my head explode and influenced the collage as well. #moonlandingfaked #washeassassinatedbytheilluminati . This is one of the first pieces where I worked small. I drew and inked the anatomy at 8.5 x 11. Up to that point I worked at 11x17 for everything. That took FOREVER! Since this was the first of many pieces I had to do for the show I decided to try working smaller. I haven’t turned back since. . Swipe to see the inks for this! I remember showing @crankbunny the sketch for this and she suggested I not draw the lips to make the drawing more aggressive. She’s a genius! .
