8 Disney Live-Action Movies Coming Up Next After Cruella
Cruella was indeed a long-awaited live-action movie that finally arrived on 22 May 2021. It was a prequel to the 101 Dalmatians story and was a hit on both Disney+ premier and theatres. However, Cruella is just the beginning, as Disney has an entire list of similar movies in the production process. To be precise, the number reaches up to 14. Disney has decided to work on the revoked storyline with a new perspective for existing characters. It is to be done according to the analysis on the preferred choice of audiences. Disney has been working on its vast range of catalogs to bring classic characters with mixed results. While Disney is known for its animated film productions, it gave us some of the best live-action adaptations of various movies. For instance, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
Presenting a deeper look at the controversial characters from the bigger franchises has become a trend. For instance, movies like Joker and Maleficent are the supporting characters from the bigger franchise. But Disney provided us with a different perspective of those characters in the movie. The live-action trend began with Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1994) and Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000). Here are some of the Disney live-action movies coming up next after Cruella based on existing stories such as:
1. The Little Mermaid
The next live-action movie, a remake of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ is expected to come, as Disney announced its casting. The casting is followed by Halle Bailey as ‘Ariel,’ the title character, and Melissa McCarthy as ‘Ursula’, the villain character. And Awkwafina will play Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Most of the previous live-action adaptations of animated musicals have included lesser classic Disney song catalog. However, the adaptations of ‘The Little Mermaid’ will be arriving with the original soundtrack. Alan Menken (worked on original music) and Lin-Manuel Miranda are working on new songs as well. The film production was in process but was delayed due to the pandemic. So, the released date is yet to be announced.
2. Luca
Pixar is offering an animated coming-of-age story movie that includes the adventures of two boys. The initial release date is fixed for June 18, 2021. It is a story about two boys, ‘Luca’ and his friend Alberto, as they are set to enjoy sun-soaked summer at the Italian seaside. Jacob Tremblay will be playing the role of Luca Paguro, Jack Dylan Grazer will play Alberto Scorfano, and Emma Berman as Giulia. The story follows the life of two magical sea creatures posing as boys and exploring scooter rides, pasta, gelato, and the countryside.
3. Peter Pan & Wendy
Here comes another live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. The film is currently in production and is directed by David Lowery. It has adopted the name directly from J.M. Barrie’s novel ‘Peter and Wendy’. However, it is suggested that the focus might have shifted from Peter to Wendy. Ever Anderson will play the new adaptation roles as Black Widow and Peter as Alexander Molony.
4. Jungle Book Sequel
Disney has announced about working on the sequel of 2016’s The Jungle Book. According to the reports, the writer and director of the first installment, Justin Marks and Jon Favreau, are constantly working together. However, there has been no confirmation about the upcoming movie’s cast.
5. The Lion King Prequel
Disney announced the prequel of ‘The Lion King’ at the Disney Investor’s Day in 2020. Jon Favreau directed the first installment, and Moonlight director ‘Barry Jenkins will most likely direct the sequel.’ Well, for further information on the prequel about cast or story, we have to wait.
6. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’ also have had its fair share of adaptations, including Snow White and the Huntsman. And other sequels following the movie with a completely different story. The announcement said that Marc Webb would direct, Eric Cresidda Wilson will work on the script, and Justin Paul & Benj Pasek will work on new songs. As usual, the production was delayed by pandemic, and the release date is not announced yet.
7. Aladdin Sequel
Disney’s live-action Aladdin (2019) was a total hit, which brings the sequel in line. And it is expected that people will love the sequel as well, or at least it will be considered. The second installment is already in production with casting members Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott as their previous roles. Disney’s original Aladdin (1992) was given two sequels, but the new sequel is believed to be a new story.
8. Hunchback
The Hunchback of the Notre Dame (1996) is not much famous but will be getting a live-action adaptation. It was announced in 2019 and will be produced by Josh Gad. It will be developed as a musical adaptation by drawing some of the elements from Victor Hugo. The confirmation about the project was given by Gad recently in January 2021.

Splendid Microscope Device Can Snap Atoms at a Record-Breaking Resolution
While the likes of Elon Musk and NASA are busy building plans for Mars and further space exploration, incredible work is being done at the quantum level by scientists. A microscope created with a sublime design has created a world record as it has captured atoms with an incredible resolution. It was in the year 2018 when researchers of Cornell had created a detector operating on high power. And, the detector working in conjunction with a process called ptychography had created a world record a few years ago by exceeding the capability of another incredible microscope by three folds. It is a state-of-art achievement, and in case you didn’t know anything about ptychography beforehand, you can just understand that it is a computation method used for quantum imaging and is driven by an algorithm. The process of ptychography happens when scientists scan for overlapping scattering regions in the material and then analyze the alterations in the overlapping areas.
Though the procedure was neat, the method did have some flaws of its own. The experiment could only provide adequate results with atoms that were merely a few atoms thick. When the scientists attempted to employ a thicker material, the electrons started to scatter away irreversibly and without any possibility of getting disentangled once again. The experiment fell apart with thicker materials.
However, now a group of scientists, including David Muller, who is a Professor of Engineering, have bettered the world record created by them, doubling the resolution achieved by the previous experiment done with ptychography. They used something called “EMPAD” (which is an acronym for Electron Microscope Pixel Array Detector) that assimilates further advanced 3D re-imaging technologies.
A picture is available on the internet, which you can see for yourself, and also the one shared by Cornell University in which we can see atoms of PrScO3 crystals zoomed in 100 million times.
The resolution is breathtaking and is fine-tuned to the extent that the only thing that looks blurred is the thermal wriggling of the atoms, which scientists could have done nothing about.
The group of boffins has published a paper titled “Electron Ptychography Achieves Atomic Resolution Limits Set by Lattice Vibrations,” on Thursday, May the 20th, in the journal called “Science.” The lead author of the paper is none other than Zhen Chen, having a post-doctorate degree, and is slowly becoming a well-known figure in the scientific industry.
David Muller also released a statement in which he said that the high-resolution imaging of the atoms achieved by their microscope not only establishes a world record but has also touched a domain of resolution that can put a limit to the human capability of achieving a resolution. He added that through their achievement, scientists could determine where atoms are located exactly in the crystal. And, it also offers them various opportunities for measurements that researchers of Quantum mechanics had only dreamt of and which they had hoped for a while. He also expounded the fact that their achievement also provides a solution to a very old problem, i.e., reversing the multiple scattering of the beam of electrons on a sample, an idea which was first laid out by Hans Bethe. He shared that multiple scattering had always proven to be a massive resistance for them in achieving this resolution.
Muller added that their object in the experiment was to go after speckle patterns that look akin to that of small laser patterns that intrigue some of the past cats. And, he explained that by analyzing the patterns, he and his team could determine what shape had caused the pattern, and thereby they can create a high-resolution 3D reconstruction of atoms.

Firewalls Have Been Found to be Extremely Vulnerable in the Recent Cyberattack
Is firewall not good enough to save your computer nowadays? Well, it is needless to say that apart from the technology that we see around us, one other thing that is developing is the way cyber attackers go about their business. The antivirus we use does try to cope with them and introduce software updates from time to time, but sometimes they fall short in front of the nefarious ingenuity of the hackers.
One of the primary things that make Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) useful is its ability to disseminate large chunks of information into smaller bits and vice versa and catering to the demands of the consumers at a particular time. However, new research has put forward a conclusive study that flaws in billions of Wi-Fi devices that people use could allow cyber attackers to make firewalls look like a redundant tool and access devices remotely almost at will.
A recent study has sent out an alarming message that vulnerabilities in certain Wi-Fi networks could give cyberattackers a window of opportunity to install nefarious codes and instructions that might allow them to gain access to a certain device from a remote distance. Yes, even the encrypted Wi-Fi network has some vulnerabilities that would let hackers exploit them for their use.
Newly published research has proven that cyber attackers could use vulnerabilities of the Wi-Fi to hamper the devices connected to the compromised Wi-Fi networks and could use the network to make users login to unsecured websites and then, in turn, install programs containing nefarious codes.
A researcher named Mathy Vanhoef has discovered at least 12 flaws in either the Wi-Fi networks or the implementation of the network design that could pose a massive threat to the users. The researcher has called these threats “FragAttacks.” The reason to give such a name is the fact that the hackers could use frame aggregation or something called frame segmentation to achieve their purpose with this flaw. In layman’s terms, the flaw would enable the cyber attackers to install frames of their choice into the networks within the radio range even though these networks have been protected by WPA-based encryption for years.
However, the researcher has alluded to the fact that the impact of the cyber vulnerabilities might not be as straightforward as we think. Though “FragAttacks” are clever enough to input instruction into the Wi-Fi networks, these cannot be utilized to hack deep web sources, i.e., these vulnerabilities could not be used to hack an email or bank account or any social, because it cannot be used to eject confidential data such as passwords unlike something called “Krack,” did previously.
Mike Kershaw, a Wi-Fi security expert, has also weighed himself into the conversation and has said that even though the ramifications of “FragAttacks” might not be simple to identify, it is never a useful idea to let certain strangers install unknown codes into your Wi-Fi networks.
