Health Net Over Department of Health Care Services

Department of Health Care Services accepted federal approval of its program to expand Medi-Cal managed care physician payments for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Even DHCS received support and started to distribute supplemental payments for fee-for-service claims, and it has not received approval on the Medi-Cal managed care piece until 2019.

They raised the supplement payment for a total of 23 CPT codes, including ten new preventive principles. March capitalization payments and the final stages of issuing formal guidance regarding the distribution to physicians, DHCS decided to release the cost to Medi-Cal managed care plan.

Department Health Care Services raised the supplemental payment amount for the past eligible CPT codes to 85% of Medicare; will pay the ten newly added preventive CPT codes will be paid at 100% of Medicare. No additional activity is required for the members to submit claims to the managed care plans and give back on a fee-for-service basis.

However, on the quote, physicians who have a capitated agreement with either a Medi-Cal managed care plan or one of its designated groups for qualified assistance must present encounter data to the payer to receive the supplemental funds. Without the submitted date, the selected documents are unable to determine the services eligible for payment.

Health Net settled a long-running lawsuit with the Department of Health Care Services over the company's rates for assisting Medi-Cal managed care enrollees. In 2003 and 2010, DHCS was sued by different health plans over the matter, with the payers accusing them DHCS is being sued by several health plans over the issue, with the payers accusing them of producing Medi-Cal managed.

Terms reached between Health Net and the DHCS, which administers the Medi-Cal program. The program will be based entirely on the insurer's pre-tax profit margins from managing its Medi-Cal population over the next seven years. Between 2013 and 2016, Health Net's pre-tax margins for its Medi-Cal managed care business must reach 3.25% each year. If it drops below that range, its actual margin would be deducted from the 3.25%, then multiplied by 50% to 75% of the premiums paid by Health Net. That amount would be part of the settlement amount paid by Health Net. The threshold drops to 1.25% between 2016 and 2019.

On the other hand, the budget of California has been murmuring under the multi-billion dollar debts for consecutive years, Prompting government agencies like DHCS to look for resolutions to lawsuits that may inflict more financial damage. Department of Health Care Services has an option to extend the settlement terms through 2022. According to Williams, if the final payout is determined to last 2019, it will ultimately be capped at $264 million.

According to Health Net spokesperson David Olson, the settlement allows Health Net to earn what is considered a reasonable profit from its Medi-Cal book of business: in a range of 2% to 4%. "They want the plans to be profitable, so they continue to reinvest in the business, and it's not in their interest to have plans leave (the state) and disrupt operations," he stated. Olson added that it was about the actuarial soundness of the rates. It did not hinge on whether Health Net made a profit.

Fuck this entire planet, Aelin Galathynius thought to herself as yet another bead of sweat trickled down between her shoulder blades. She wished she could wipe her brow, the stupid cooling system in her space suit was nothing in comparison to the blazing sun. Stupid planet, stupid planet with no atmosphere. 

It wasn’t just the sun, the piece of machinery she held was worth more than her entire life and with Fenrys Marama cracking jokes over the comms, she was not paying as much attention as she should. “I really hope that penetration test goes well for you, Ace. Is the core still soft?”

Despite herself, she huffed a laugh, “I’ll have you know that the CPT is no joke and this is serious science.”

“Oh, please,” his cocky voice crackled through the headset, “you’re a dirt engineer.”

Lorcan Salvaterre, from where he was helping Aelin steady the drill for the core penetration test, rolled his eyes but stayed silent, wanting to know where the argument was leading. The blonde astronaut was quick to reply, “Geotechnical and it’s soil, Mr. Fancy Aerospace Engineer. Isn’t your job today confirming that the FAV is still upright?”

Dry laughter was heard from their other crew members and Fenrys bit back, “Actually, it’s visual inspection of mission vehicles.” He paused for a second, “I’m very happy to report that on base inspection, the FAV is in good shape and yes, it’s still upright, dipshit.”

Before Aelin could speak, their commander cut in, “If you guys stopped leaving your comms open, we could all be exempt from the truly witty commentary.”

She frowned down at Lorcan Salvaterre, the mission leader and mechanical engineer, sticking her tongue out at her friend who smirked in response. A gentle, cool voice spoke up, “Happy to shut them off from here, Salvaterre.”

The golden-haired man child squawked in protest, “Hey! Radios are our only way of communication on this inhospitable planet-“

“Shut them off, Faliq.” The next thing Aelin heard was a slight static and then complete silence. “Oh, this is nice,” Lorcan said, the only person who could speak now. “We need fifty samples, G, one hundred grams each.”

Since her radio had been cut, she could only give him a thumbs up and focused on the task at hand. After a few minutes, the radio crackled back to life, Nesryn’s voice tight with worry, “Commander… you’re gonna want to see this.”

Lorcan’s head lifted up and he turned to look at the surface habitat, like their mission’s system operator could see him, “What is it, Faliq?”

A shiver of nervous energy straightened Aelin’s spine and she stopped the drill, her brow furrowing and her hands becoming clammy.

“Mission update. Storm warning.”

“I saw that on this morning’s briefing, we’ll be inside before it hits.”

“Storm’s gonna be a lot worse, estimate says to prepare for emergency departure.” Aelin breathed sharply as Lorcan exhaled, turning to look over her head at the horizon, his dark eyes calculating. “Commander?”

When his eyes slid to Aelin’s, she felt her heart drop. They were fucked. “Everyone inside the hab. Now.”

All crowded around Nesryn’s computer, staring at the screen where the words, ‘Abort mission’ flashed across it underneath the storm estimate, tension was high. Hardly anybody dared to breathe as the dark-haired computer engineer read the update, “…eleven-hundred kilometres in diameter…”

“That’s heading straight for us,” said Rowan Whitethorn, the mission doctor, tapping his finger on the screen and tracing the trajectory. “What’s the estimate force, Nes?”

The beginnings of the storm shook the structure and Aelin saw Elide Lochan’s - resident chemist - eyes narrow for a second before a mask of indifference settled over her features, even as she hooked her pinky around Lorcan’s, the black diamond ring on her left-hand glinting. They shared a small smile that made Aelin’s heart ache, but now wasn’t the time to be thinking of such things. They had a mission to worry about, she could fret over her aching soul later, Aelin chastised herself as her gaze flicked to the green-eyed man across the desk from her.

“Ninety-two thousand Newtons,” Nesryn all but whispered, her voice aghast.

Lorcan swore, tangling the remainder of his fingers with Elide’s and squeezing, “What’s the abort force?”

“Seventy-five thousand,” Fenrys read, his brows wrinkled with worry as he ran his hand over his short hair, brushing it forward into the wave pattern like he did when he was stressed, “any higher and the FAV will tip.”

“We’re scrubbed?” asked Aelin, worrying her bottom lip, the voice of her mother telling her not to do that sounding in her mind. All her life’s work, the whole crew’s life’s work just gone. The mission they’d worked themselves ragged for, over. Just like that. She wasn’t ashamed of the tears that pricked her eyes.

Red letters flashed across the screen, Prepare for emergency departure.

Elide’s calming voice brought the crew back, as she stepped away from Lorcan and leaned over the computer, analyzing what was on the screen, “Maybe it won’t be as bad as they say, they’re estimating a significant margin of error.”

Everyone turned to Lorcan, in the end – it was his call to make. Aelin nodded in agreement with Elide’s words, “Let’s wait it out.” His face was emotionless as his eyes shuttered, that mind of his running through each scenario he could think of. “Let’s wait it out,” she repeated.

They waited with bated breath until Lorcan shook his head once, “Prepare for emergency departure.”

“But-“

“That’s an order, G.” No one commented on the barely heard words, a look of mourning on Lorcan’s face. “We’re scrubbed.”

Debris struck the sides of the airlock tunnel as Nesryn pulled down the latch of the door, “Ready, Commander.”

Everyone turned to Lorcan, their suits and headlamps on. “Visibility is almost zero, stay together and if you get lost, follow my suit’s telemetry,” he indicated the bio-monitor on his arm with which they could home in on each other’s location and other various functions, “Wind picks up further from the hab, so be prepared.”

The airlock door opened and the six astronauts struggled further into the sandstorm, each step requiring full body effort. The three women tucked behind the men, keeping close, hands on oxygen regulators.

Through the screaming sound of the storm, they heard metal creaking – the Farnor Ascent Vehicle. Aelin stepped out from behind Lorcan, barely able to see her fellow crew members. “We need to shore up the FAV,” she yelled, hardly able to hear her own voice. If it somehow tipped, without them in it to launch, they would never get it up again.

“How,” Fenrys asked, his voice straining above the storm as he pushed along, Elide close behind him.

“We can-“ Aelin screamed as something ripped free from the habitat structure and crashed into her, lifting her off the ground and throwing her out of sight.

“Aelin!” Elide’s scream pierced the monotony of the whirling debris. Everyone froze, looking to where they had last seen her.

“What happened?”

“Something hit her and she was just gone, she flew west,” Elide cried, her voice shaking. That was her oldest friend, her sister-

“Galathynius, report.”

Nothing but static. Nesryn looked down at her bio-monitor, pressing on Aelin’s suit button. “Her suit’s offline, I don’t know-“

“Galathynius, report,” Lorcan’s voice broke and again, nobody answered him.

“Her decompression alarm went off,” Rowan said, “she has less than a minute.”

Lorcan’s stomach dropped, “Shit, ok, ok, Marama, get to the FAV and prepare for launch, everyone else, home in on Lochan.”

As Fenrys took off to the rocket, leaving Elide to face the storm herself, she stumbled, “I can’t see anything.” Slowly, too slowly, the remaining crew members struggled their way to her and huddled together.

“We’re gonna line up and walk west. Small steps, she’s probably prone and we don’t want to step on her,” said Lorcan, his voice raised. They nodded, confirming the plan and set out, eyes wide open, hands out as precaution in case… they tripped over her body. “Doc, report on Galathynius.”

Rowan read the information on his suit’s computer, “Faliq, her bio-monitor sent something, a ‘raw packet’-“

“Yeah, I got that,” Nesryn confirmed, reading what the others couldn’t. “BP 0, PR 0, TP 36.2.”

“Copy. Blood pressure, 0, pulse rate, 0, temperature, 32.6.”

“Temp’s normal,” Elide commented, confusion clouding her mind, “why is her temp normal.” It wasn’t a question.

As realization set in, Rowan paled, “It takes a while for, it takes a while for the body to… cool. Blood’s still hot.” At that, everyone stopped, whirling to Rowan where he flanked Nesryn and Elide.

“Commander,” Fenrys’ voice crackled over the radio, “we’re tilting to nine degrees, with wind pushing to eleven. It’ll tip at twelve.”

“If it tips, can you launch before it hits the ground?”

The pilot hesitated, “Uh… yes, sir, I can take manual control.”

“Copy that, everyone, get to Marama. Prepare for launch.”

Nesryn started, “What about you, Commander?”

“I’m going to keep looking, get to the FAV.” Nobody moved, Elide’s eyes wider than ever before and filled with tears. “Now.”

“You really think I’m leaving you behind,” Fenrys asked, his voice breaking. “Lor-“

“I just ordered you to, now get moving,” Lorcan said, in a tone that brook no arguments. When they still didn’t move, he cursed, “Fucking hell, I said go.”

With that, Nesryn and Elide tucked behind Rowan as they made their way to the FAV.

Once they were in the airlock and had pressurized the vehicle, Elide swore, low and in Blackbeak, “Dilo, what is he doing.” She was the first up into the cabin next to Fenrys, eyes on her fiancé’s telemetry, “He’s going too slow, he won’t be able to find her in time.” Nesryn and Rowan climbed up into the cabin and the silver-haired man was nearly shaking, eyes wide.

“Commander, we’re at 11.5 degrees, you need to get back here-“

“Faliq, can you use the proximity radar to find her?”

“It only works for metal, there’s not a single piece of metal on any of our suits.” Defeat bled through her voice.

“Copy. Give it a try,” Lorcan told her, still determined to leave no being behind.

“Lorcan, I know you don’t want to hear this,” said Elide, “but Galathy… Aelin’s dead.”

“Try the fucking radar.”

Fenrys shot Elide a look, “The fuck is wrong with you, Lochan?”

Her dark eyes were unreadable and she strapped herself into her acceleration seat, “My sister is dead, I don’t want my fiancé dead too.”

Their pilot went silent at that and turned his eyes back to the controls, “Negative on the radar, Commander.”

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” Lorcan muttered, groaning in frustration and desperation. He was grasping at straws; they all knew it. “Nothing?”

Rowan had gone silent in his seat next to Elide and he offered her a bleak look, tight-lipped, when she reached over and squeezed his hand, no words to say. Everyone knew what had been between Aelin and Rowan, except for maybe themselves. Nesryn shook her head, “It can barely see the hab, there’s not enough-“

The FAV let out a screeching sound as it tipped more and Fenrys barked out, “Commander, you need to get back to the ship now. I got one more trick and then we’re fucked.”

Silence on the comms. Fenrys tried again, “Commander-“

“Copy that,” Lorcan bit out. “How far?”

“11.9”

Elide spoke, “Salvaterre, Galathynius is gone. We need to get out of here.”

Lorcan said not a word. Finally, Nesryn pleaded, “Lorcan, she’s gone, ok? We need you here.”

“Roger that,” his voice was defeated, “on my way.”

Despite themselves, they all let out a relieved sigh, breath they didn’t know they were holding. Maybe a minute later, the airlock whooshed and Lorcan appeared, staying dead silent and not meeting anyone’s eyes as he strapped himself in next to Fenrys. “Prepared for launch.”

“Roger that, Commander.”

The ship began to shake as Fenrys blasted the jets, pulling them up and out of the storm. The only words spoken were from the control system, marking every one-hundred metre mark they reached.

Half an hour later, they were docking on their rocket station, named The Lani, after the goddess of dreams – their expedition The Matron , phase two of a three-part mission. Once they had completed the post-boarding instructions, Lorcan spoke, rubbing his eyes as his shoulders slumped, “We’re done for the day, don’t worry about logs or the mission. I’ll, um, I’ll send a report.”

Everyone nodded and dispersed, grim looks on their faces. Lorcan stayed behind, leaning against the wall of the airlock. Elide waited by him, cupping the side of his neck and stroking her thumb over his jaw as it feathered and he dragged his eyes to hers. “I’m sorry.”

She just shook her head, indicating she wouldn’t speak of it now, “Not now, love.” Her lip trembled, her face crumpling before Lorcan tugged her against him and cradled the back of her head. She cried silently into his chest, her tears soaking through his shirt. All he could do was bury his face in her hair and whisper his apology, his heart splintering in his chest.

It was late. The other crew members were in their sleep-cabins, mourning the loss of their friend, no. Not friend, family. Their family was broken now. Lorcan was still up, sitting in the central area, staring at the blinking cursor on the computer.

With a heavy sigh, he began to type the report to the flight and crew director, Manon Blackbeak.

Mission Specialist Aelin Galathynius is presumed dead after being struck by debris during the storm late this afternoon on Farnor, day 18 of our 31-day stay. The remaining crewmembers were forced to abort the mission. Awaiting mission directions.

With a snarl, he slammed the laptop shut and stalked to the window, looking down at the planet until his eyes blurred and stung but still he watched, eyes roving over the red dirt as if he would be able to spot her body.

Undebatables in Afrofuturism

Post-colonialism is false. We are still living in colonialism and are suffering its' effects. It has reshaped and adapted to take on many forms.

White fragility is an escape from the accountability of the privilege that was set up by racist, oppressive, criminal, social, and institutional systems.

Black folX can be both human and alien. Magical and normal. Extraterrestrial and terrestrial. We can co-exist in varying realities and identities.

We are operating on CPT.

AAVE language is only reserved for Black folX. No appropriating it and masking it as your own if you are not Black.

Black folX can be merry, have joy, and frolic...

without the threat of police being called on them...

or be assaulted...

or be confronted and questioned by white womXn with our being in a space.

I speak for my experience. I do not speak for all Black folX, nor is all our stories are the same. We encompass any narratives and have different experiences. We are all not the same.

Not all Black folX are poor, have rhythm/dance, can rap, nor will rap on cue when you demand it.

If the hair is on my head, don’t touch it nor say, “Where did you buy it?” or “It looks so real.” Mind your business.

Don’t counter my grievance with your grievance to minimize and suppress me.

Stop gaslighting Black WomXn when we speak up about our grievances.

The term Hotep should not be used to describe so-called “woke” Black folX.

And so-called “woke” Black folX need to stop gatekeeping information with patronizing, paternal condescension.

Code-switching is exhausting. Stop pushing “proper English.”

If you feel uncomfortable with my presence, do not expect me to make myself smaller to accommodate you. Your discomfort is between you and your god.

Black folX need to stop saying, “We are not our Ancestors.” Our Ancestors fought peacefully and burned shit down too. We are them.

Expansions

In molding a world for Black folX in the future, we must be intentional with our actions. No new world can form without Black folX. No new world can develop, especially without Black WomXn. We are "mother civilization." Societies and pop "culture" is Black culture appropriated and watered down from Black WomXn.

The CommXndmXnts and Undebatables are in direct correlation with physical space. As we construct a physical space that is a safe space for Black WomXn, these CommXndmXnts and Undebatables are rules that will enable this space to come to fruition while catering to the needs of Black WomXn. In modeling and intentionally creating an Afrofuturistic future where Black bodies are free to be merry about, the success of an Afrofuturistic future lies in the protection of Black WomXn.

Black WomXn have been on the frontlines of every liberation movement. Despite our work that contributed to the success of other groups, white supremacy and patriarchy still profoundly affect the lives of Black folX, but more specifically, Black WomXn, ranging from racism, reproduction rights, not receiving recognition and credit, and more than there is space to list. This experience alone brings an inseparable connection of racism, sexism, and classism. These three elements are tied so bound together that for exclusion of one will only prompt the other two to be highlighted and take center stage. Without racism, sexism and classism take hold. Without classism, racism and sexism are intertwined. Upon encountering a Black WomXn, the societal definition of gender and the color of our skin leaves no escape from the inseparable chains of racism, sexism, and classism, all of which to be present simultaneously.

Black Queer WomXn's recognition was often shoved to the back end "for the good" of the Black community. In part due to their identity considered not crucial to the movement; thus, their identity would "muddle" the message that correlated with conservative views, despite fighting for the liberation of all Black folX. Along with internalized homophobia, those who identified as Queer or a WomXn, our voices were often diminished and "shushed" away for a male leader to carry the voice of the Black community. We are currently experiencing Black WomXn continuing to lead the fight for Black and Brown bodies' liberation. In the male-dominated Civil Rights movements, the sexism and marginalization again Black Queer WomXn has led to Black WomXnism. Despite the Suffrage Movement, white feminism used the work and labor of Black WomXn while simultaneously silencing Black voices and benefiting off of white privilege.

How do we get to this point?

The Afrofuturistic CommXndmXnts and Undebatables serve the purpose of creating a space where the inseparable chains of oppression associated with Black WomXnhood do not hold the velvety to cause harm for Black WomXn.

An Afrofuturistic landscape acknowledges that Afropessimism and Afrofuturism coexist simultaneously[1]. Like Black folX, there are intersections of both that influence the other. Varying identities can coexist, so will in the Afrofuturistic landscape. Afrofuturism revolutionizes patriarchal systems that were created to confine and control Black bodies. Rather than rewrite, revise, gloss over, or suppress history, we must acknowledge these patriarchal systems and revolutionize through dismantling and destroying so that Black folX can, in fact, frolic freely. Afrofuturism is the result of these systems, and we craft our own. Rather than integrating into "dominant culture," we should be allowed to live separately without the threat of the "other," which is non-BIPOC folX, invading and colonizing us. Afrofuturism allows for Blackness and Black folX to be expansive, not confined. To be free, we cannot submit to white culture or seek their validation and approval.

With Afrofuturism, there must be a balance for Afropessimism as well. In an Afropessimistic world, the reality and weight of colonialism and imperialism's lasting effects have no escape. This constant reality is reinforced by institutional, social, and systemic institutions, reflecting racism, classism, sexism. The Afropessimism is that of the present moment, reminding us eradication of exploitative systems is not synonymous. When reform occurs in abolishing these systems, it is in correlation with an Afrofuturistic world being molded.

The very act of thinking and molding a space for Black WomXn is a radical act. While we can take steps to this radicalization, the systems of racism, classism, and sexism are the productions of a patriarchal and capitalistic world that have profited and have been sustained by the exploitation and labor of Black WomXn. Reclaiming time and space is such a radical act that the systems that exploit and benefit from the bodies of Black WomXn will be dismantled and destroyed to pave a true revolution that is not centered around white liberalism.

For an Afrofuturistic world to exist, it must first be a world that is a physical and mental safe space for Black WomXn. Black WomXn birthed us, and yet we have exploited off of their pain and labor. Black WomXn must be able to be free and not policed by our bodies. The CommXndmXnts and Undebatables are a beginning step in molding and crafting this space intentionally inclusive of Black WomXn.

CommXndmXnt: Thy work shall take up the entirety of space without thy work impeding and overwhelming the space of others

In first molding a space for Black WomXn, I must first incorporate this into my own life and work. My work shall take up as most space as possible that is allocated to me while also respecting other artists and their work. In coexisting with varying experiences and stories being told, as I demand to carve out a space for Black WomXn, I shall also respect other artists' work.

CommXndmXnt: Thy shall not input traumatizing imagery

In acknowledging that pain and joy are intertwined with one another in the Black experience, pain is often exploited for a profit, with joy masked for its former. More specifically, the trauma and pain inflicted on Black WomXn on-screen are horrendous to us. It becomes a spectator view for those who are outside of Black WomXnhood. The trauma and pain when being depicted for other subjects, there is a proud conservatism and privacy. To allude to the pain but respect it for the subject. Shield the audience from being pained and respecting the privacy again for the subject, which is usually a non-Black WomXn. For Black WomXn's pain to be communicated and gain empathy, every lash in an enslaved movie must have the blood splashed across the camera lens. In 12 Years a Slave, the night engulfs and hugs the master as he rapes his captive. The moonlight shines down on the horrendous and decrypting and dehumanizing act. The silence and echoes of the crickets add to the heart-wrenching show and violation. This pain and rape scene is set up as a show so audience members can be captured by the moment, hypnotized by it, and not tear a single eye away from the screen.

For our pain to be communicated, we must be demeaned and dehumanized, stripped of identity and emotion. This leads to the desensitization of Black WomXn's pain, adding to the mistreatment suffered by doctors that underestimate our pain and leads to our death. Black WomXn's bodies are not respected. We are treated as disposable waste that reaccumulates. Showing Black WomXn's pain and trauma with more gore will not cause any action. Only temporary empathy that is dismissed from the mind once the movie or tv show ends.

CommXndmXnt: Thy shall show thyself

Identifying as a Black WomXn, this work is representing a part of me. As I show myself more in my work, this can be a restorative and therapeutic tool in unlearning biases and conditioning and being able to frolic mentally and physically freely in an Afrofuturistic world.

CommXndmXnt: Thy shall collaborate with other Black WomXn

Collaborating with other Black WomXn ensures to the multifaceted experiences of Black WomXn are included. No narrative is the same, yet all narratives encompass the being of a Black WomXn. Collaborating with other Black WomXn ensures that money and opportunity circulate within the Black community. As I rise, others must as well.

CommXndmXnt: Thy shall be a safe space for Black WomXn and Black folX

Self-explanatory. Period.

CommXndmXnt: Thy shall make each scene in coordination with archival footage

The archival footage serves to document at the earliest possible time that Black WomXn were molding and currently creating with the Afrofuture in mind, consciously and subconsciously. In drawing parallels of Black history, the Afrofuture and the present archival footage serve the purpose of grounding and acknowledging our Ancestors fought and worked with the Afrofuture in mind, regardless of if the term was coined then or not.

CommXndmXnt: Thy work shall not be linear

Time is a social and artificial construct. We are operating on CPT. Subjectivity in time is in correlation with production and commerce. Production and commerce that has led to the exploitation of Black bodies. Time is limiting.

Going against time is a radical act and a decisive act in choosing the power of rest. Rest is revolutionary. To rest should not center around the business hours of our exploiter. Rest needs to be center around the needs of the body. We suppress our body's needs to keep up with forced capitalism that highlights production and commerce over mental, emotional, and physical health. Rest is revolutionary of the Afrofuture.

CommXndmXnt: Thy work shall not fall into White Validation Syndrome

Our pain, art, value, and trauma should not be recognized and validated by white people to be considered accurate. The need to be identified and acknowledge by those outside our community will ultimately be our downfall. X

Having been raised in a Southern Baptist Church, words such as "rules," "forbidden," and "laws of God" are centralized in the Christian belief and verbiage. These rules are centered around the "10 Commandments." These commXndmXnts establish morality and governance that humXns must abide by for soul security in the afterlife. This fear and laws drive those to "do good" and into submission. This same fear and irrefutable laws are used as grounds for repression and suppression. The "10 Commandments" were used as grounds of obedience with the penalty of being deprived of entering the pearly gates of Heaven.

The beginning of the manifesto opens with the "Afrofuturistic CommXndmXnts." In replicating the original "10 Commandments," the "Commandment" language takes an authoritative tone. There is no room for debates or questions. These commXndmXnts are absolute. The commXndmXnts are rules that humXnkind must follow. In mimicking the authoritative and absolute tonnage of the "10 Commandments," the Afrofuturist CommXndmXnts sets a tone in the art process that allows for Black folX to exists. The commXndmXnts serve the purpose of elevating Black WomXn while also protecting them. In addressing a world and safe space for Black WomXn to prosper, we must first create a model that is free of misogyny and the effects of colonialism. The commXndmXnts sets a stage that protects Black WomXn rather than suppressing them into a patriarchal, submissive, demeaning will. Rather than establishing actions and forbiddance, the Afrofuturist CommXndmXnts serve the role of establishing a physical, emotional, and mental space that is free of symbols of oppression. They serve as a protection rather than establishing morality that is Eurocentric based.

Black WomXn

When referring to Black folX, the “B” will be capitalized.

“…We capitalize Black, and not white, when referring to groups in racial, ethnic, or cultural terms…Black reflects a shared sense of identity and community. White carries a different set of meanings, capitalizing the word in this context risks following the lead of white supremacists”[1]

Water will be used as a portal through time.

With the water used as a portal, a tool of the Afro future, water symbolizes the sacredness it has within the Black community. As water is essential to life, it is also used as a tool against Black communities in either denial of it, a weapon during the Civil Rights Movement on protestors, or environmental racism resulting in disasters impacting Black communities detrimentally. The water serves as a grounding tool in acknowledging the Afropessimism of the reality of imperialism's lasting effects on the African Diaspora. In breaking and dismantling our patriarchal system's brainwashing and misogynoir, we must break from the automatic default of comparing our experiences with others. In challenging the world and societal standards and highlighting the varying intersections of Black life, spaces must coexist. In this space that is relating to Black WomXn, cisgender mXn are limited in appearance. In allowing for Black WomXn to frolic freely, a space must be created that is inclusive of solely them and their needs, free from misogynoir and those who resemble it.

AAVE – African American Vernacular Engl­ish, aka. Black English. Misogynoir – Coined by Moya Bailey; it is the “anti-Black racist misogyny that Black Wom[x]n experience” is internalized. This leads to the over-sexualization of Black Wom[x] and adding to existing stereotypes about Black WomXn[5]

If Kisses Could Talk. I saw the finale and literally stayed awake until the next morning writing it -- it just poured out of me in about 6 hours. It was my catharsis. Sal’ethast (Dragon Age) is a very close second, and it the most words I’ve written in the shortest time: 25k words in maybe 4 days? It was a Reverse Big Bang and I had a strict deadline. I work well under pressure! Who knew!

I’ve basically created my own little canon divergent universe with it’s own rules and guidelines, and I really like writing in it. I like using that world to explore angst and fluff and smut. Some of my best writing and prose is in that story. Plus, I love a shameless opportunity to explore two characters I am unbelievably attracted to haha

As for expanding, I am still obviously expanding TAaFoMFT and Remix, but I kind of also want to write other, more linear stuff for the former? Like how they get from “you’re just work” to them falling in love. I dunno, other stuff would probably pop up in my head. It’s my comfort blanket universe. I actually write a lot of prompt fills with that universe in mind.

All of my other pieces are relatively insulated (and most were canon fixes).

My main priority right now is the next chapter of TAaFoMFT, I have it outlined (most of the next 16 chapters are outlined as well) and am slowly adding to it.

I have a lot of prompts I am filling here or there just for the sake of writing, because I like it.

There’s a prompt fill I’ve been working for almost a year that is incredibly self indulgent, that’s centered around Danny’s birthday pool party and it’s just... chock full of Brio being sexy fluffy, Annie x Nancy goodness, everyone being a big, weird family, Dean only showing up to be openly mocked and derided. I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it, but it’s there waiting!

And I have a nebulous idea for a post S3 multi-chaptered fic (gasp! I know! A linear fic with more than one chapter??) but I am like.... really worried that everyone will be writing these, and that mine is gonna be too much like someone else’s, and that mine will suck in comparison, and that gets in my head and makes me all flustered and anxious and unsure, but then I’ve already written 2000 words of JUST outline/ideas, trying to piece everything together. I dunno, I really want to write it, but also I don’t?? But I think about it as I’m falling asleep and have written so many notes in my phone before i pass out. Also, I have done SO MUCH research about pool and spa places, you guys have no idea. I am a FOUNTAIN of knowledge now. (Maybe they should get stuck somewhere, and there’s only one bed?!?)

Aaaaand I have a few ideas I still have a little interest in working on, like the fic inspired by a prompt fill I wrote that was inspired by a theory @cpt-falcon had about the S2 finale, where instead of breaking up with Rio, Beth tells him what Dean is doing and they hatch a plan to undermine him and get her kids back, and someone gets shot but for a different reason.

And another that was inspired by a long discussion with @johnisntevendead about Rio accidentally saying te amo to Beth one night and him freaking the fuck out about it cause you don’t say that unless you really fucking mean it, and he does, and that’s scary as shit, and Beth takes his reaction the wrong way.

So yeah, there’s a lot going on in my head lol

I have anxiety. 

This means I rarely leave my comfort zone, including my hometown. 

This year, I’ve already done that, and I’m going to do it again, so I’m proud of myself. American Independend Film Festival is a milestone to me. :)

This time, I didn’t go alone, I had the awesome @cpt-winniethepooh with me, who helped me through a lot of my issues during our trip, and to whom I grateful for it. She’s the best friend anyone could wish for.

Next time, when I’ll go to America and SDCC, I’ll be alone, but now I feel a bit more prepared, if only marginally. It counts.

At the Friday evening, we took pics and nothing more, since we didn’t have tickets for that night’s screening. He was as gorgeous as ever in his suit and honestly, after we left, I literally cried tears of joy and shock of being this close to him.

Next time, Staurday’s afternoon, he was in a hurry leaving the theatre where he did charity meeting with kids all day, and when he came out, he apologized for being in a hurry and unable to stay for his fans. (As far as I know, he was late from his radio interview - honestly, he was constantly late, each occasion we encountered him :D) And he wore his green leather jacket! I won’t admit an undignified squeek that escaped me when I realized this fact. (Pic is not mine, I wasn’t able to take pics that time.)

We didn’t leave after that and waited for him the remaining time. It was worth it, honestly.

I guess you see my point. This was... honestly, like a religious experience. Being this close to him, being able to see him with my own two eyes. Also, he signed my bullet journal, namely a calligraphy I did with his quote! And he liked it! He quietly ‘WOW’-ed and asked where are we came from, so, I uttered out my country and basically that was my whole vocabulary to that hour. I was stunned, shocked, in a very good way. He ignored the red carpet and came into the crowd of his fans to be able to sign/interact as much as he could. He was kind and radiated his warm aura - I can’t describe it any better - and smiled at everyone, even in the middle of the trip that probably left him totally exhausted.

We bought gifts to him, and the organizers took them from us and promised they’ll deliver them to him. I wrote him a letter, to make him feel good and appreciated. And according to his instagram, he got the gifts! :)

So, all in all: I’ve spent an amazing weekend with my best friend @cpt-winniethepooh; I’ve got a nice Iron Man book that I’ll use as research material for fanfics, I’ve met amazing people like @andreasnirvana and other fans (there were people from Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Turkey, Greece, some other Hungarians and of course Romanians... so he really brings people together!); and of course, first and foremost, I’ve met him.

If you’ve been a consumer of social media for the past three years you would know the 2000s are making a comeback! The fashion trends of the time are becoming very loved by my generation, gen z, from low-rise jeans to tiny mini skirts all the trends are being worn again. But people are becoming very concerned that something else of the decade is coming back, diet culture. 

For those who don’t know what diet culture is:

“ Diet culture is the pervasive belief that appearance and body shape are more important than physical, psychological, and general well-being. It's the idea that controlling your body, particularly your diet—by limiting what and how much you eat—is normal.” (By Rachel MacPherson, BA, CPT )

 The saturation of diet culture has died down quite a bit but with the fashion of the 2000s coming back who says this mindset won’t? 

During the 2000s many teenagers looked up to supermodels such as Kate Moss but sadly she wasn’t the best example. One of her famous sayings being ‘nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’ although she has expressed her regret for that it still influenced loads of people.

A part of diet culture at the time was drugs, especially heroin and cocaine.

These drugs helped models and others maintain their low body weight.

 The term ‘heroin chic’ was very popular at the time, it implies that women had a thin stick figure that was caused by a heroin addiction.

Besides that phrases such as ‘If you’re hungry just drink water’ or ‘Don’t eat junk food, just smell it’ were used often in magazines and by moguls as pieces of ‘advice’. Magazines were for a lot of people the root of their unhealthy relationship with food. They loved to marginalize and bash celebrities if they would gain or lost weight. 

That’s why many are expressing concern for its (diet culture) comeback because teenagers are already quite vulnerable to weight-related topics. Still, diet culture coming back could cause a huge rise in eating disorders. That’s why the body positivity movement is of uttermost importance!

After Avengers 1 Tony had socks commissioned after the likeness of every avenger. They are sold commercially but he has some hand-knitted and packs them on top of the Christmas presents for everyone that year. He might or might not have caught them all wearing their socks during movie night.
