For the ask game, how about an au where Izuku is the product of a quirk?

What I mean is maybe a slug was born with a quirk to manifest something to protect it, and a human was what it summoned (or something along those lines)

Hi so that is an incredible mix of funny and existential but ok

1- we're keeping the slug thing. The spotted green slug doesn't have a name, due to being a slug, but when a child tries to poke it with a stick, the slug's quirk activates and now there is a second child who instinctively protects it

2- the green, spotted child scoops the slug up and keeps it on their shoulder, feeding it leaves. The child, having just been spawned into being, is able to talk enough to get threats away but like. They didn't have any clothes, they're trying to eat leaves and dirt too. It's ok though, they can't starve or die- the slug's quirk is what maintains them or heals their injuries. Eventually, someone calls CPS.

3- the police try to take the slug away from the wild child, but they scream and bite and eventually say "my quirk" so they give up and let them keep it as they go to the hospital to get him checked over. The kid also doesn't legally exist, so they have to figure that out too. When the nurse looking over the kid puts together the pieces (aka, listens to what the kid says), she looks up sentient quirks and animals with quirks on her phone. If she tells the truth, the best this kid can hope for is someone like Nedzu taking them in to protect them, but more likely the slug would be sent to a lab where the kid would be unable to protect it and who knows what would happen then. So Nurse Midoriya lies on the paper and when she brings the kid out, and the child is sent to a children's home with the quirk registration of "slug: manifest and bond with a slug"

4- luckily, neither AfO or Ujiko is interested in a quirk like that. Some months later, Inko returns and adopts him. The slug is pleased with this arrangement as it's quirk is no longer having to protect him from all the other children and caretakers, and Inko ensues there are good food sources around the apartment for it. She even gets a safer travel terrarium for the child, Izuku, to use to carry it around during school. Izuku is able to learn and grow since the they and the slug sees others found it, and Izuku decides they want to be a hero- they have to still prioritize protecting the slug, but why not be a hero and protect others too?

5- when Inko's child comes home from school one day with a cracked terrarium, a uniform that smells like the sewers, and a scorched notebook, declaring that they got All Might's signature and also found out that they don't need to breathe today, and that they are a hundred percent sure that they want to go to UA, Inko realizes that she's going to need to send that letter to Nedzu after all, and hope desperately that he reads it before the entrance exam. (To her surprise, she gets a phone call before the end of the month.)

For background, there was an incident on the playground this morning between Older Brother and the boy which Mom has filed a police report against for cyber bullying. Older Brother kicked a ball at the boy’s head. Words were exchanged and the boy punched Older Brother in the head. The school teacher checked on Older Brother and he is fine. He remained at school all day. These are 10 year old boys. I don’t think they pack much power in a “punch”. But Mom, who relishes drama, pronounced that Older Brother was “assaulted” and demanded to pick him up and bring him to the doctor and maybe to the police station to file a police report. This woman has not exchanged a single word with either of her sons in 14 days, hasn’t seen her children in 23 days, and hasn’t attended any of the 6 medical appointments she has been invited to. Yet the second she sees an opportunity to make someone else look bad, (even if they are a 10 year old boy), she suddenly wants to be an involved parent. Of course she hasn’t filed any police reports against the adult man who assaulted both her sons because he’s her boyfriend. And the social worker told me that it’s a “good sign that she is showing protective behaviours towards Older Brother. I gently pointed out the pattern of behaviour that I’ve been seeing, and asked that she please ensure Mom is given guidance her effort as a parent would be better spent teaching her son how to deal with-escalate conflict instead of modeling how to file police reports against 10 year boy who has not caused any noticeable marks on her child. Yet when her boyfriend left bruises and scratches on her son’s neck, she told everyone that it was just a misunderstanding.

I have confirmed with the social worker that Older Brother is "definitely" going to the Children’s Home on Friday.

I asked about the plans for Younger Brother (since yesterday she talked about returning him home on Friday) and she said after Older Brother is settled, then she will discuss with the family about a plan for how and when Younger Brother will be returned home within the next few weeks. I pointed out that 5 days ago she told mm needs to attend mental health counselling and mom and boyfriend need to attend domestic violence / parenting services before the boys would be returned home and so what happened to that plan, and she said that the services still need to be completed but they were exploring if perhaps it is safe for Younger Brother to be returned home sooner. So at least we aren't on the Friday plan any more. But I pointed out that Mom’s behaviour isn’t showing a desire to parent him. She hasn’t exchanged a single word with him in 2 solid weeks even though she knows she can call any time. The social worker said she realises that is concerning and will keep that in mind as they plan for what will happen. I begged her that we have a clear, sensible plan for what Mom needs to do to in order to show she is ready and able to parent Younger Brother. If they set a plan and she meets it, great! But CPS isn’t supposed to just return kids because Mom tells them to. There needs to be some sort of rational metrics in place. Isn’t there some sort of standard guidelines they have? It literally seems like this social worker is making it up as she goes. She just agrees with whomever she is talking to in the moment. She literally told me “one step at a time” when I asked what the plan is for what I need to pack for Older Brother. I need to pack his bag literally 48 hours from now. It’s not that far away. This is the reason why everything takes forever because she can only think one step ahead at a time.

15 Day BL Challenge

Doing this Day-By-Day will probably be too much for brain so I have decided since it's relaxed I will be doing this 1-5 days over 3 days. I just want to also add on that I am an avid watcher of many different kinds of dramas, and I embrace different countries also. But I will probably go off of mostly Thailand here. This will get more complicated if I invest in my JBL and TaiwanBL pools and Growing KBL. I may do honourary mentions to those couples though I choose to use some of those pairings as my faves.

Day One: Favourite OG Actor Pairing My choice is Boun Noppanut Guntachai and Prem Warut Chawalitrujiwong (With Honourary Mentions: Billkin & PP Krit, Both Nattapong & Newyear Kitiwhut, Max Kornthas & Nat Natasitt and Ja Phachara & First Chalongrat) I will say I didn't know who to choose because I don't know who would be considered "OG" so I went with like a comfort couple of mine that has been continuously a comfort couple. I can't put into words how much I love them but really, if it's BounPrem I'm there and I'm watching it. I love how both of them are "comfortable" in their own way and they have shown us that they can be supportive of one another even when working on their solo activities. Boun has also put people in their place a few times for misconceptions of himself and Prem. As for Prem I just have always enjoyed his quiet nature. Also his quick responses that come out of nowhere and surprise Boun. (Example: Saying I love you when Boun told an interviewer he would love someone to say it genuinely to him one day.. Or that he'd donate his heart to Boun if he needed a replacement. Actually my husband and Boun have the same condition! It's something that can be helped when they're older.)

Also. Boun has one of the best laughs in all of Thailand oh and his earrings~! Come at me if you disagree. I am vibrating in anticipation for The Vampire Project.

Day Two: Favourite Rookie Actor Pairing Oh boy. Uh. There are so many but I think in the circumstances that both of the actors were rookies when they did their first series together? Tutor Koraphat Lamnoi and Yim Pharinyakorn Khansawa. Although Yim had been in the business since he was a teenager he didn't have a successful drama until he was paired with Tutor in Cutie Pie as NuerSyn. (Honourary Second Place: GeminiFourth Honourary Third Place: DaouOffroad Honourary Taiwanese Coupling: Tseng Jing Hua and Peng Cian You~. And shush! They were SO A COUPLE OK. ).

I just enjoy these two so much, their aesthetic is of course off the charts with Yim's ethereal alien looks and the fae-kind creature we know as Tutor. I consider them my comfort couple. The moment Yim entered Cutie Pie as Syn I knew he'd be my favourite character. After I finally got more into CP due to War, I got smacked by them a second time years later.

Also don't tell Zee and NuNew or Max and Nat but they were my favourite land for DMDLand2. Poker Land slapped so hard and both of these men are super talented. Yim was even sick when he performed and Tutor kept taking glances to check in on him. They are my comfort couple, I enjoy their relationship (whatever it is offcam) dynamic that we get to see. They admit to bickering a lot at the beginning of their promotions as a CPL. I love how daring they have been since the beginning too, our poor Kla and Ker working hard to maintain their and our sanities with these two. I can't wait for "Battle of the Writers"! Day Three: Side Dish That Should've Been the Main Course Warning to those who are heart broken like me: NetJames Incoming.

This is going to hurt my heart. This drama was not a BL but the side dish was our same sex relationship trope in the drama. The main coupling was two amazing actors who I love dearly I just felt that the director did NOT use Great and Four's actually-there-tension at all. The side couple is: Net Siraphop Manithikhun and James Supamonkon Wongwisut as Captain and Foei in Catch Me Baby. (I advise for people's sanity to never read MDL comments on dramas though. They have a weird hate for Thai actors..) I am not going to sit here and explain how I feel about NetJames since the news. I respect them, and I think NetJames fans need to learn to respect their boundaries and what they are going through right now. Cause ISTG if I read another: WHERE IS ___!? in their IG lives again I will explode and take everyone out. Also, I will forever support them individually or together.

That said Captain and Foei had that frienemies to lovers trope and chef's kiss. Just. I started this drama before I got back into the Thai BL scene again and it was what made me anticipate and watch Bed Friend every week when it aired. I have honourary mentions but every one of these I loved the main couple just as much or a little more than these side couples so I didn't choose them. Or they were the second half of their show's main couple or they got a spin off or show of their own (LOOKIN AT YOU YIDIAO~). GeminiFourth as Heart and Li Ming in Moonlight Chicken, JeffBarcode as KimChay in KinnPorsche, TutorYim as NuerSyn in CP and CP2 and NB, AyaKate as YiwaMarine in Wedding Plan (This is GL couple~), PealSee as TheeThai from Laws of Attraction and you can argue this with me but if you saw MoD you know this is canon: GreatMD as Inspector M/Dr. Oat in Manner of Death. Oh one more. Sorry. I love myself a good Side Couple: Xiao Kaizhong and Gao Han as MaoK in Falling Into Your Smile (they're a couple ok. AS READER OF THEIR WEBNOVEL YOU CAN NOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.)

Day Four: Fave Ship Dynamic Oh my gods. Do you know how hard this question is for me? I'm like.. "Yes?". As a character artist and avid role player I like most ship dynamics. Wardog would tell you it's "Side Character Plots". So if I had to choose only one it'd be Character with Trauma x Green Flag. I love it even more if the Green Flag learns to be one through trying to be there for their love interest. They could also just both be people with trauma and both be green flags who heal each other. I am extending an invitation to view this gifset by Pharawee in its entirety because it's my fave part of LITA. And I have a lot of fave parts in LITA.

Day Five: Biggest Flop Uhm. The problem is I like lower-income-shows but I think because of the lack of ethics behind this show: For Him and not because of the cast. I really enjoyed the cast, I just feel awful they had to work with so little to get at least decent content out. And that Tor had been harassed and stalked by one of the production members. I enjoyed the first few episodes, though the decline in quality of script and shots the cast had been given is very evident each episode you go through. The chemistry of the couples was chemistrying even with scenes like stepping on a new tattoo... Wolfstack's Ticking Time Bomb | Hard Mode Guide

Are you guys having fun with the new World Event? I know I am. I am having so much fun with my runs (and only 1 self-explosion so far) that I've decided to write up a guide for it!!!

There's around 14.000 of the World Quality left so we don't have all that much time to continue. If you just want to experience the travel, do a medium/easy run!

An Easy run is especially worth it if you just unlocked the ship, even. And the event is very cool!!!! The fear! The tension! The tick-tock of the bombs as you drag the bulk of your ship through the sharp rocks and winding paths, heart racing, eyes full of terror.

The doubt! The way you grow increasingly afraid, increasing terrified, thinking of anything, any solution at all to get out of this problem you have gotten yourself in. The maddening sound, the warmth, the desperation, the growing threat of mutiny quelled only be the ever more terrible threat of an explosive demise.

This might be the *best* out of all the Living World Events we got so far!

Alrighty, so to the guide part.

First out of everything- admit that you are not going to be able to succeed in the checks. It's fine, if you're lategame to try and go for the medium ones, but the checks in the hardmode can reach up to 24 Zeefaring to 100%.

Yeah, it's genuinely insane. So, ignore them.

But if you can't use half the cards- how will you, a zailor of quality, finish this event's hardmode and get a nice new quality for your mantelpiece?

Here are some recommendations.

First of all, grind as much Strong-Backed Labour as you possibly can. I actually recommend either:

The Bazaar Side-Streets (marginally more efficient with underclay. Don't worry about the 3.50E you've just spent- this event can reach 8 EPA in hardmode, even if you don't have the needed Zeefaring.)

The Southwark statue in Jericho Locks. It's the best option for SBL, bar none, though it requires card draw.

In any other circumstance, I'd tell you to go for the Underclay, but this event is genuinely so profitable the Bazaar Side-Streets become a viable option. Every action you save is worth its weight in gold.

Get *as much SBL as possible.* 6-9 is the absolute minimum in my opinion.

Second: Stock up on Second Chances. Specifically, Dangerous chances. Keep your Suspicion below 5 as well so you can draw a certain very good card in zee.

Next: keep your Troubled Waters low. A bit of pirating here and there isn't too harmful- it doesn't really increase TW that much over the regular cards.

Keep at least one TW-reducing card in your hand, so you can use them to switch regions from Home Waters to London and from Stormbones to the event location. If you have more then one TW-reducing card in your hand, lower your TW, but always make sure to change regions with a TW-lowerer.

This is because your hand is wiped on region change, so to minimize TW you need to do this!

Good cards for TW reduction:

"A Corvette of Her Majesty's Navy,"

"The Wax-Wind" (if you have a zub)

"What do the Drownies Sing?" (if you have a Drownie Effluvia from Fruits of the Zee)

"A Giant Angler Crab" (specifically "Ready the guns and fire at its soft spots" option, reducing TW by 2 CP).

When you get there, every level of TW will be converted into the event menace, Volatility, and reaching 8 volatility will blow you up.

Now, you got to the hard part.

Most likely then not, you are not going to be able to do the advanced checks here, so keep to the Watchful check (which is super easy) and the Dangerous check (which is amazing)! They are, respectively, 'Steady! Steady!' and 'No way! There's no way!' and they will be your salvation.

Those second chances? Those are for the Dangerous check. Never play the Red Science check unless you're very very endgame and utterly loaded on that stat.

(I enjoyed the game telling me that 10% RS check is, incredibly, safer option than the one that has an actual chance of success and I can spend a second chance on.)

There are, at first, only 4 cards in deck, so you can keep drawing and playing those two.

By the time you have Progress to the Admiralty Depot 5, you start drawing a (bad) card called 'Now! Now!'

It's not very good. It has an insanely difficult check which you should never roll on, and an option that spends 1-3 Labours for some guaranteed progress.

When you draw this card, take a deep breath and check your Volatility. Is it below 4? Is it at most halfway to 5? If it is and your progress is *not* 6 or 7, you can bite the bullet and do a zeefaring check to draw again. You can take the damage. If it isn't, simply spend the SBL and draw again.

The card 'We're not going to make it!' has a slightly lower amount of damage dealt to you so pick it, if this happens.

Now, have you drawn 'Steady! Steady!' or 'No way! There's no way!' in your new draw?

Play those.

Now, draw again and hope for one of those two.

If you draw a Zeefaring check again, sigh mournfully and spend the SBL.

Rinse and repeat- even if you have the worst luck ever, 9 SBL should be enough to get you there.

And congratulations! Your heart is racing, your breath is hot- but you have earned your bounty.

AN: So I’ve been rewatching season 17 and I have noticed so many Jo moments that would have been so much better with her true love, Alex Karev. This is one of them rewritten to include Alex being the supportive husband he is always meant to be instead of the butchered ending that left me screaming in rage. Summary: Alex and Jo talk about their day where Jo tells him she delivered a baby and is considering switching from general surgery to OBGYN. Alex is shocked at first and tries to talk her out of it causing her to tell him she feels like she’s on the verge of another breakdown unless something changes. Although he was skeptical at first, he later tells her that he will support her if she is serious about this change.

Alex Karev opens the door to his two-story house that he bought with Jo back in February. After deciding to finally start having a family, the Karev’s bought a picturesque house fit for a whole minivan family so they can impress CPS and be approved for adoption.

But the pandemic started after they scheduled the inspection and since then they have been just filling the void with each other and working. Alex is saddened at having this worldwide stall in his plans to have a full life with Jo but for now coming home and having dinner with her is a solace in this difficult time. His despair evaporates at the smell of pizza hitting him as he enters the house.

Alex exhales happily before power walking to the kitchen where he finds Jo sitting by the kitchen island drinking beer and eating pizza from the box laid on the granite counter.

“Oh, my God. That smells so good.” Alex takes his jacket off and opens a pantry to get a plate out, “You got meat lovers right?”

Jo stops drinking and furrows her eyebrows, “Wait you thought this one pizza was for both of us?” Alex looks taken back by that causing his wife to grin, “I’m joking, grab a plate and come join me, I have exciting news.”

“Herd immunity was discovered?” Alex asks, putting his pizza on his plate.

“I wish. I delivered a baby today.”

Alex eats a big piece before looking at Jo confused and asking with his mouth full, “You delivered a baby? We’ve been together almost all day when did a baby come in?”

“It happened very quick.” Jo explains to Alex who keeps eating, “I went to check on Luna, and this nurse said that there was an imminent delivery, and the next second, I was catching a baby. I was literally the first person in the universe to hold him. And then I handed him to his parents, and their faces were just…”

Alex can see the sparkle in Jo’s eyes that hasn’t been present since March. Even though this was unexpected he is glad Jo could have some semblance of happiness even if it wasn’t from surgery.

“No wonder Val's so depressed. It's the happiest thing I've ever seen. It was just so pure and simple and perfect. I was buzzing.” Jo frowns as the reality comes back once again, “But it was a total random fluke, and tomorrow, I'll be back to the same depressing crap.”

Alex holds Jo’s hand caressing her knuckles with his thumb sharing the feeling, “I know. All of my patients don’t come to the hospital because their parents are scared of exposing them. I agree with them it’s not safe but then I think what underlying condition is gonna get worse because they’re waiting so long for it to be safe to get a checkup? I swear it’s this year I wish I got into plastics like I wanted intern year. A tummy tuck or boob job can wait, and my patients would be soccer moms and tycoons instead of vulnerable and scared children growing up in a pandemic. So, I get what you’re saying about delivering babies, it’s a nice break from reality.” Jo nods, “You think that's why Carina DeLuca is always in such a good mood? She's just, you know, handing out babies, and it shoots her serotonin level through the roof.”

Alex chuckles sipping his beer, “Maybe or it could also be because she has orgasm projects.”

Jo sips her beer before looking at her husband imploringly, “What if I changed?”

Alex takes a bite of his pizza before asking, “Changed what?”

“Careers.” Jo explains with a grin as Alex stops eating and looks frozen in shock at this sudden proposal that could change their lives, “Programs.”

Alex chuckles thinking she’s joking before looking up and seeing the serious grin on her face that makes him stop and look at Jo stumped. For so long he has known her to be this driven girl who wants to shape the future of medicine so hearing her wanting to change specialties has him concerned somebody body swapped with the surgeon he fell in love with and married.

“Your serious?” Jo nods smiling at her shocked husband, “You want to switch from surgery to OB?”

“Is that insane?” Jo asks with a slightly hurt face at his reaction, “Khan did it, and what he did is so much harder than switching specialties. He started over with nothing. And I know, I know I've put years into surgery, but if it's not bringing me any joy, then wouldn't it be insane to not change?”

Alex sighs and thinks for a moment before answering, “Jo I understand how you’re feeling, believe me. You’re not the only doctor in this country who feels lost and useless in this pandemic. But you’re not useless, you are helping as much as you can and saving as many lives as you can. I mean you saved Val’s life today that is something you could only do as a surgeon.”

“And I still want to practice surgery I just…I just want to be happy and use the time I have left in my prime to recertify as an OB and actually bring life into this world not just stop death for a little while.”

“Do you understand what would happen if you actually went through with this?” Alex asks Jo who groans at his question, “Even with your experience you’d still have to do residency all over again. You’d be rounding with the newbies, covering call every other night, you know what happens, you lived it not that long ago.”

“And I can do that all again.” Jo proclaims with conviction, “Look Alex you wanted to declare plastics because you saw it as an easy way to surgery and big bucks. But for me, OB is something I need to do, or I am gonna be in the same place I was a year ago after I met my birth mom.”

Alex looks at his wife in concern, feeling triggered by past events. Jo sees this worry in his face and quickly tries to mend this, so he doesn’t get scared of her breaking down again. She holds his hands and looks at him truthfully in the eyes.

“I am not in the same place I was then; I promise you I’m not. I am working as hard as I can so that I don’t let this scary world break me down. I go to therapy three times a week on the screen, and I write in my journals and try to find the bright moments in my life even with my job.” Jo sighs and holds her husband’s attentive gaze, “But even before the pandemic I’ve tried to adjust my life best to my life changes. Because I have changed, I’m more attuned to my feelings, I’m learning to leave my ugly past behind and look toward a future where I am happy and content with the job I love and the people I love. I tried doing that with you when I decided to start a family with you. But those plans are on hold and now even my job is turning into a cesspool of darkness I need to get out of.”

Alex squeezes his wife’s hands in comfort and support, “I need to be the doctor to fit this change, and I finally found that when I delivered that baby and shared those parents joy in that room. For the first time since this virus, I found something that makes me happy in my job.”

Alex can see the conviction in Jo’s eyes that makes him see this is not a decision she is coming to lightly, “I want to be happy. Everyone's dying. Meredith's…”

Alex sighs at this reminder of his best friend in the covid ICU. Jo puts her hands on his shoulders squeezing them to center him and let him know he is not alone in this dark time.

“She made me the surgeon I am today…but I don’t want to be a surgeon anymore. I want to be happy and recertifying as an OBGYN will make me happy. And it would really make me happy if I had my husband’s support in this because he believed in me before I even believed in myself. Can you do that? Because I will do this with or without you, that is how much I need this.”

Alex puts his hand on his wife thigh looking at her with a slight twitch on his lips, “Your really serious about this, aren’t you?” Jo nods causing Alex to grin fully, “Wow, I gotta tell you I didn’t think you could outdo yourself. But willing to put up with residency hell again so you can recertify, it’s something even I wouldn’t do. It’s…It’s inspiring to start all over so you can be happy in this dark world.”

Jo grins at her husband and puts her hands around the back of his neck, “We’ll make it work I promise. I just need to know you’ll be right here with me while I make this change.”

“I promised you I would be there with you in good times and in bad. Twice Jo, twice.” Jo chuckles at the reminder of both of their impromptu weddings that happened because they forgot to mail in the marriage license, “And I promised to love and support you like you love and support me. Trust me when I say that will not change no matter how many times you change specialties, I promise.”

Jo smiles at Alex before sitting on his lap and kissing him gratefully and pulling back with a grin he shares, “I love you.”

“I love you.” Alex rubs her jean clad thigh, “Now the hard part is convincing Bailey to let you switch specialties in the middle of a pandemic.”

Jo groans at this reminder, “Is there any chance you can do it for me?”

Rules: Answer the 11 questions of the person who tagged you, make up 11 questions, then tag 11 people to answer them.

1. How is your writing going right now?

Right now, I feel like I'm in a funk. I'm able to write things if it's to help others, but when it comes to my own writing for myself, it's mostly... well, dead at the moment. I think it's from the recent family death that my writing's slowed down. I want to hope the unconscious grief can pass.

2. Give me a song that gives you vibes for your wip? (If too hard, just a song you've been listening to a lot lately. This is literally just me trying to get new music to listen to and your excuse to ramble about writing stuff.)

The Things You Mustn't Avert Your Gaze From and Hitorime no Tomodachi Ni, or in English, "My First Friend" for all my WIPs. Because they capture the soft feelings I try to write for in the first place, to illuminate the dark.

3. Do you have any headcanons for your wips that you can't/won't include for some reason? (If do, why?)

I... think I have a couple. And those are because of (1) lack of energy to write them, (2) they cover territory I have yet to experience in life, and (3) I'm honestly concerned I'd start crying if I write them because of how emotionally invested I get into writing in the first place for specific characters.

4. What's a scene/character/plot/thing you're excited to get to write in your wip?

When I do go back to S&S and CP and Naruto stuff? A lot of things post-Kannabi. Including Team Minato being kids. They deserve more time to have fun as kids.

For Fate/Passing Days stuff? Including some of the older memories I've had from playing the game, such as bonding with older Servants through Tumblr bond level stories again, or even when I Grailed specific Servants (looking at Shiki, Musashi, Skadi, Melt, and Astarte, especially). Even more character-driven, Bond 10 specific chapters when I have the energy for them.

5. Is there anything you have to make a specific pass in editing for?

By "pass", do you mean "excuse"/"look the other way"? Because if so, it's definitely repeating/filler words for me. I know I use a lot of "only," "sometimes," and the like in my first drafts, and when writing the first draft of a scene out from my head, I've been trying to forgive myself more in not having more detail-oriented words to get the thoughts out.

6. How many rounds of editing do you usually do?

1-2. Basically first one being while I write it or right after I finish the chapter. Second being if I allow myself to sleep on the doc and come back to it the next day. Or that second round is me actually reading the published version on AO3 to check for typos and the like.

7. Biggest challenge(s) with writing (in story or out of it)?

My main thing's really all out of writing for me: Just trying to find the right words to articulate what I see in my head. Because imagining any kind of scenes playing out like anime isn't always easy to write out. Fight scenes are the worst offender. Same thing with emotional stuff, at least to a smaller extent.

8. How do you utilize your non-writing writing time?

Reading manga/light novels, as well as rereading previous source material to keep the ideas fresh. I even make it a personal policy to take three books with me in my purse on my work days so I can read/refresh on my breaks.

9. How do you personally define a good or bad day of writing for yourself? / what does it take to feel like you've made decent progress?

A good day of writing for me is writing more than just a few words/sentences. A bad day would be if I'm unable to come up with anything and just sit there, staring at the same words and wondering how to continue.

10. Do you write in discrete units of time/schedule or is it just whenever you have time?

It's just when I have the time. Since I take the trolley to and back from work (which is about one hour and 20 min one way already), I've been trying to write more during those moments when I can.

11. What are your current wips? (+ short description if u want)

Civilian Pianist (CP) - Currently on idea hiatus, but wishing to go back.

The Sea and Stars (S&S) - Also on idea hiatus, because fight scenes.

Passing Days (Fate) - Ongoing, just slow updates (about once a month) due to energy and some things in FGO hitting worse than others. Some part of the fanbase is definitely a big factor. Had to let go of some friends and be civilly distant with others with how big and picky the fandom is. Can count on one-two hands the number of people I can share my ideas with without worrying about backlash or anything.

Details that aren't officially in the book, but I consider canon. Tw for The Horrors (mentions of SA and child abuse)

Honey's ancestry leads back to a woman they call 'The first Godmother.' Her name was Penelope, and she ran away from home at age 17 because her boyfriend/sort of fiancé was a huge abusive pos but no one believed her about it. When she was around 19, she attempted to take her own life due to his stalking, but was saved by a man who later turned out to be the head of a Crime organization. He took her in as a little sister, trained her how to use guns, and saw the potential in her. She later went back to kill her abusive ex, assisted by who would become her future husband. When the man who found her died, he left her to take over his 'business,' and she did so magnificently. She expanded things, cleaned up the behavior of some of the periphery members, and began the long tradition of taking in disenfranchised members of other crime families. Her daughter Beatrix was basically always surrounded by people who loved her and kept her safe. She never knew the pain of being disbelieved. This is a tradition the Marsters have kept going through the centuries.

Despite Nicky being the one who actively engages in poly, Corvin is the one who actively dislikes the concept of jealousy, and distrusts monogamy. This is because his dad was a huge dickhead who cheated on all of his wives, and jealousy had a hand in ruining his childhood. If his dad had just been honest, and sought out relationships openly instead of behind his wife's back, Corvin thinks that a) less screaming and wall punching would have happened, and b) more adults means more chance of someone growing a spine and calling future!CPS about the abuse he and his siblings faced. Also, his second-favorite sibling was born via one of these affairs, but the bio mom didn't want to be a mother, so gave custody over.

He ranks his siblings. It's not the healthiest or nicest thing to do, but it isn't like he plans on telling them where they rank. His favorite is his oldest sister Kate, who basically became the younger siblings' mom, since their dad's latest wife was...checked out. He has three sisters and two brothers, but hasn't spoken to them since he ran away at age 7. They were all very close, and he really misses them, but he's terrified of their father using them to worm his way back in.

Part of why Corvin and Nicky are so quick to take in a random 10-year-old is that they both see aspects of themselves in Robin, and do what they wish someone would have done for them. Corvin was alone until he got scooped up by a different crime family at age 13, and got groomed into a relationship with a much older man before he escaped at 18. He wants to keep that from happening to Robin, who they find alone and starving, and willing to basically imprint on the first people to be nice to him. Nicky was orphaned and passed through the foster system until he aged out and got snapped up by his old boss. He basically remembers nothing from ages 5-18, and what he does remember sucks. In fact, he still has huge gaps up until he met Corvin. He wants to keep Robin out of the foster system at all costs, because he doesn't trust it. Robin is a sweet, friendly little kid that just wants to make people happy, and Nicky doesn't want to even think about the kind of people who would abuse that.

Corvin is the more strict parent, while Nicky is more indulgent. They did this on purpose, because a kid needs balance. Corvin’s 'strictness' is mostly things like 'do your homework. Eat your veggies. Here, have some child-friendly chores.' Meanwhile Nicky gets to be like 'shh, here, have an extra slice of cake. Sure, you can stay up a little late to finish that episode of your show.' They joke at one point that Corvin is the teaching parent, while Nicky is the one that tricks him into learning when he thinks he's not.

Corvin likes to take Robin to museums and art galleries. Robin likes to listen to him talk about the little fun facts and secrets about the exhibits, of which Corvin knows a lot, because he's a huge nerd. Internally, Robin is probably more similar to Corvin, but his friendly demeanor leads outsiders to think he's more like Nicky.

Corvin and Nicky met when Corvin was 18, and Nicky was 23. Yes, there is a slight age gap. Initially, Nicky thought Corvin was younger than that, because Corvin was extra tiny and way more withdrawn. He big-brothered Corvin for a bit until Corvin got sick of it and clarified that he didn't need a mentor, thanks. Hilariously enough, Corvin was and remains the more mature one. It's his competence that Nicky fell for. (And that Nicky loves his pointy, angry little face.) Corvin fell for Nicky’s contagious energy and the fact that he's secretly a super sweet, awkward guy. Nicky being just. The prettiest guy he's ever met. Is just the icing on the cake.

Since they've been friends for a decade at the start of the book, they have really weird boundaries. And by that I mean they have no personal space with each other, are constantly hugging or touching each other, and sleep in the same bed more often than not. Neither of them have a strong grasp on what most people consider normal for people who are 'totally just really good friends, pinky swear.' Because they don't kiss on the lips, they aren't dating. Ride or die attitude and friends-with-benefits situation be damned.

Honey and Mozzie on the other hand...they're doing that shit on purpose. Mozzie is aromantic, but what he and Honey have is something so weird that labels do not fit them. If asked, "He's my bodyguard." With heavy implications on the word bodyguard. Mozzie is obsessed with Honey in a way that could be really unhealthy if Honey wasn't obsessed right back. They're best friends. They're siblings. They're owner and pet. They're leader and her ride or die #1 sycophant. Mozzie being immortal just means he plans to spend the rest of his life pledged to watching and protecting Honey’s descendants. Who cares how many centuries that ends up being, he belongs to Marsters. They're absolutely fucking about it.

Anyway. This is getting long, so I'm going to make another post about the characters and their sexuality. Because I have too many thoughts about it.

The Qualifications of Leadership Date Posted: September 17, 2024

Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them." – Numbers 20:11-12

In a lifetime of patient, faithful service, Moses lost his temper once and it cost him his chance to set foot in the Promised Land. This was his life’s goal and he missed it for losing his cool – one time. In Numbers 20, the people were complaining that there was no water (imagine that!) (vv. 2-5) and Moses obediently took the problem to the Lord (v. 6). He received clear, simple instructions, yet was apparently fuming about the whole situation instead of simply giving it over to God. When he got up in front of everyone, his temper boiled over and he struck the rock instead of simply speaking to it as God instructed. The people still got the water they needed, but Moses lost his chance (vv. 10-11) to go to the Promised Land.

There are some valuable lessons to be learned here. First, leaders are held to a higher standard (James 3:1) Second, the greater our influence over others, the greater responsibility we have (Luke 12:48). Third, though we are allowed to have tempers, we must never let our tempers control us (Ephesians 4:26; 2 Corinthians 10:5). Fourth, a lifetime of faithful service can be damaged in seconds (Numbers 10:10-11). And last, our followers can have a tremendous effect on us so leaders need to be strong. Leadership is not for the faint of heart.

This is why no one should be offered church leadership who does not pass the character qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. You may say “But those are qualifications of elders and deacons – they don’t relate to Sunday school teachers or choir directors.” And you’d be right – to a degree. The Bible doesn’t specify qualifications of Sunday school teachers; but it does talk about being “apt to teach.” It doesn’t specifically mention choir directors, but it does qualify those who lead in worship. Anyone who seeks a position of influence and leadership in the Body of Christ must clearly demonstrate their living relationship with Jesus Christ by showing the fruit of the spirit (Matthew 7:16 cp. Galatians 5:13-26). And obviously, we certainly cannot have church leaders whose character or lifestyles are clearly defined as abhorrent to the Lord (Proverbs 6:16-19) or bring into question their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 1 Timothy 1:9-10).

Do we choose as a banker the one who wisely and shrewdly handles money or the one who cannot even balance his check book? Let’s be real. If someone wants to lead, teach or influence others spiritually, they need to be the best we have among us.

New raid dropped and it's kinda peak??? (P1: gameplay)

no like actually it's really good. There's a dps check in 20-4 phase 1, but it's not very high and it's mostly a matter of maintaing a laser buff. (3 pillars pop up and dps can f1 them for a 10 second massive dps buff). The mechanics are pretty interesting, and the patterns are fair (for the most part). Though i've only cleared up to 20-4 D3 (we could've cleared 20-5-1 but it's very focus intensive and people were getting really tired)

Difficulty wise i'd put it around crosso with a similar dps requirement for D3, but for D1 it's doable with people who can dps in Abyss raid. The main difficulty of the raid is learning and executing the mechanics, and situational awareness. Doing this without a voice chat shot caller seems pretty hard, though not impossible.

There's this very interesting trade off in this raid where you can play risky if you and your party members are prepared for it, or you can play safe for a significantly easier experience. In 20-4, there's multiple times where there's a huge criss-cross of lasers spanning the whole screen which seems super daunting and unfair until you learn that:

you can i-frame them

the lasers appear based on a debuff that stacks when you get hit.

If your team is willing to i-frame continuously to survive the laser, you can play as risky as you'd like just be prepared to chug and chain skills because those lasers hurt. (knowing how to rotate in order to maintain full i-frames is a skill worth learning)

Alternatively you can play at a distance, being careful to dodge the worst attacks and keeping away from the boss if your stacks get too high to make the raid a lot easier. Your dps may be a lot lower but if your team consists of classes with worse i-frame options or worse mp and cd support, this may actually end up being faster.

This trend sort of continues in 20-5-1. If you get hit you stack a debuff and eventually have to place an attack somewhere. The difference is this time if it hits the boss the boss heals A LOT so you are forced to respect it. If your party is very good at predicting the patterns then you should barely heal the boss at all. You can play risky and stack the debuff a lot, but in exchange you have to spend a lot of time away from the boss placing the attack down. The boss, however, has a lot of attacks that are sorta "time wastey" so is this really so much of a trade off?

Stuff like this imo super cool. If you can make D1, then I highly suggest you try the raid out yourself. It's very scary and chaotic but once you figure things out it's actually quite fun. Funnily enough I think this is the only content where the CP requirement seems too high for what is needed to clear. We were making good time where only 2 people had 13m on their dps setup, the rest were at 10-11m even some dps.

my brother is also disabled and he’s got schizoaffective disorder and he’s really disconnected from reality but convinced he’s fine, anyway when i moved back in with mom at the start of the summer i was looking forward to being able to build a community with him as two disabled sufferers of neuropathic pain. the issue is that he’s had cerebral palsy his whole life (he’s 11 months older than me) and he’s so adamantly convinced that because i’ve been suffering from crps for “only” 3 years and not my whole life that i cannot and will not ever understand what he goes through, even though crps is objectively more painful and disabling than cp, and he throws it in my face all the time saying that i don’t understand his pain and acts like whatever i’m going through is dwarfed by his shit, even though i have two (2) multimillion dollar lawsuits that i’m navigating and am trying to figure out what kind of long term care and treatment i’ll need for the next seventy years so i can adequately negotiate and sue these insurance companies that really just want me to kill myself so they don’t have to pay out. he almost physically attacked me tonight but i threatened to push him down the stairs if he laid a finger on me and then he called me ableist for doing that and said he was gonna call the cops so they would put me in a headlock, which he alleges a security guard did to him when he was institutionalized last year, although nobody at the facility says that actually happened to him and obv they wouldn’t but he also is delusional and ended up institutionalized because he was convinced his neighbors were stalking him and trying to kill him so he started screaming at their 14 year old kid that he was a fascist and told him he would kill the kid if he looked at his house again, which is actually my sister’s house that she bought so he would have a place to live because he had been kicked out of his previous apartment for threatening to rape and impregnate his roommate to have a child that he was convinced would be the second coming of jesus. he’s basically burned every bridge and keeps doing it and his care team thinks our mom (his legal guardian) is overreacting bc they only ever listen to him talk about what’s going on these days and all he does is tell them how our mom is a horrible person who just wants to steal his disability checks and lock him up forever, despite the fact that my mom has been letting him live in her house while he’s on a waiting list for assisted housing and if she didn’t he would be in an institution, in a shelter, or homeless. he’s also recently become convinced that our mom took money from strangers when he was like 5 so they could come to the house and sexually abuse him and keeps telling her that she “prostituted” him when he was a kid every time she asks him to take his recycling bags full of beer cans out. there’s just so much violence in the house rn and it’s making me so scared because i don’t have anywhere else to go because work comp is literally giving me less than $100 a week until we go to hearing in jan or feb and i would also be homeless if i wasn’t living here. i just wanna fuckin die but also not because i’m living spitefully to get a fat check from these bastard insurance companies, but i hate how things are right now. i’m really sad and feeling so small and infuriated and powerless. anyway send vibes.

Esmae ran to the hangar bay window. "Ladybug's right - that damn ship is back, CP."

"Move, people! Battle stations." The captain was already on her way to the cockpit.

"Uh, where do you want me?" asked Hex.

Requiem paused her way to the gun turret. "How are you with a soldering iron?"

"Uh....."

"Here." Merrin popped open a panel on the hangar wall. "This is the ship's shield circuitry. EDI's not gonna let you do anything dumb, so if you see wisps of smoke, take this--"

"Merrin! Move your ass." Cosmic Peanut's voice boomed through the ship.

"I'm still really new, too. You'll be fine."

Before the captain could castigate me, I ducked into the Bypass station and connected to EDI's array.

"Merrin, can you give me extra power on the guns?" Requiem's voice sounded through the ship.

"No problem," said Merrin. "But, ah, CP, where--"

"Gods dammit, the engines. Draw power from the engines right now. Fracking buttons are too close together. Balls of ice. EDI! What's the distance to the edge of the belt?"

"A controlled burn would get us clear in approximately 25 seconds, Captain. Assuming we do not hit any asteroids and the enemy ship does not damage our engines."

"Requiem, are you going to fire that damn gun?" barked Cosmic Peanut.

"Shot away."

"Minimum damage to the enemy," said Esmae. "They have big shields. I mean strong.... uh, deep shields? You know what I mean."

Just then the entire ship rocked from a direct hit. "Shields at 15%, Captain," said EDI.

"Comms, give me extra power to the engines. Now. Drop it from the guns. Sorry, Requiem."

I said, "Captain, I have enacted anti-hacking measures." For what it's worth, I added to myself. I didn't imagine that this ship had any interest in hacking our network, but what else could I contribute?

"Ladybug just deployed a shield-buster on that damned ship," said Merrin. "That will help."

Our ship creaked, and the lights flickered. "Fracking asteroid field, fracking up my fracking ship."

"Shields at 5%, Captain."

"Thank you, EDI. I'm a little busy right now."

I heard humming over the comms, and at first I thought that a fan was malfunctioning, but then Requiem began to sing. Her voice was quiet at first. "We are the brave... and the bold. We fight for our freedom, O and for our homes. We moooove to the sound of the drum." She clapped her hands in a steady beat. "We are ready for whatever may come." She said, "This is a traditional war ballad. I thought we could use a little inspiration. Here's the chorus:

"O, sing a song of glory and of might. O, sing a song of victory and of right. We are the heroes! We are the heroes! We are the heroes, and we fight for our freedom, O and for our home."

"That was great!" Hex let out a whoop. "I'm gonna repair the hell out of these shields."

"CP," Esmae's voice came clear over comms, "the enemy ship just scrapped an asteroid, and get this: it peeled open one of the bay doors. A little Stinger jet just tumbled into space."

Checking the sensors, I saw that we were close enough that I could try to hack into the enemy ship and perhaps remotely pilot the jet away. I had just made the link when I lost it. I realized that Cosmic Peanut was piloting Malaka away from the enemy ship.

EDI said, "Asteroid debris is reduced by 93.7%, Captain. We are essentially clear of the belt."

"But still in range of those guns," said Cosmic Peanut.

"Correct."

"CP, I can boost the shields," said Merrin.

"Do it. Rob the heavy guns. Sorry Requiem."

"Uhhhh, do they make missiles out of light?" asked Esmae.

"Ah shit," said Cosmic Peanut. "EDI visuals. That's a void missile. Evasive maneuvers. Brace for impact, just in case." A moment later the ship crackled with the energy of a direct hit. The lights went out and came back at a dim 20% of normal power.

EDI's voice sounded different when she said, "Alert, alert. Critical damage. Alert, alert. Recommend evasive maneuvers."

"No shit," said the captain. "What's the situation?"

"Captain, shields are at zero percent. Hull integrity: 5%. We should retreat before all lives are lost."

"Malaka, you still there?" Ladybug's voice crackled on the comms.

"Hanging by a thread, man, but we're here! Fracking void missiles can't keep a Wildstar down. Can you get out of the belt?"

"Negative, Cosmic Peanut. But...." I could hear murmurs in the background. "We're gonna finish our job and get you out of here. We'll ram that fracker and board. If we don't make it, well, tell our families we did our best. Tell 'em we love 'em."

"They're doing it," murmured Esmae. "They rammed the enemy ship."

"Merrin, divert weapons power to shields. Quinn, get your ass up here and pilot. I need to see if we can get shields restored. EDI, prepare engines for a dash."

"CP, we're close enough for a scan," said Esmae. "The enemy ship is a Xaldan X-1 Seeker. It's Veerux, alright. Ladybug is-- I don't know how it's going to go. There are 8 life forms on the ship. He's got 2 crew? Captain, a couple of shots would take it out."

"And maybe Ladybug," said Requiem.

"Nah, we're getting the hell out of here while we still have breath," said Cosmic Peanut.

I slid into the captain's chair in the cockpit and set my fingers on the console. "EDI," I whispered, "maximum power to the thrusters." A moment later we left the asteroid belt to the vast darkness of space.

Chinese Music I Listened to This Spring/Summer

I think it’s been a few months since I posted about Chinese music/cpop, so I thought I’d provide an update on what I’ve been listening to this past spring/part of summer.

And of course, I made a Spotify playlist to go along with this post. And each song name is linked to YouTube for those of you who don’t use Spotify. The Spotify playlist includes a few “bonus” songs.

 薛之谦 / Joker Xue In my last music post, I called 薛之谦 “my latest Mandopop obsession.” I’ve still been listening to his music a lot, but I’ve had different songs on repeat lately. His slower and quieter songs have been speaking to me a lot more.

《像风一样》 is the musical version of a deep breath. But a sorrowful, long deep breath. The lyrics are quite sad really, but this song also makes me feel at peace.

《哑巴》 is that song that I never skip when it comes on shuffle. It starts out very quietly, so sometimes in the car I can’t even hear that it’s begun, But it picks up towards the middle/end. 

《那是你离开了北京的生活》 was a song I used to overlook. But luckily I gave it a second chance! It’s once again a sad yet beautiful song. The lyrics are making me tear up a bit, not gonna lie.

《变废为宝》 kinda goes over my head lyrically, but the vibe isn’t as sad as the previous 3 songs. It gives me a slightly hopeful feeling.

《动物世界》 is the darkest and gloomiest out of these 5 songs. It sounds a bit on-edge and unsettled.

韦礼安 / WeiBird Similarly, I’ve also continued listening to 韦礼安 this spring.

《女孩》 was love at first listen when I heard it covered on Chuang 2021 (which I just watched this spring). I instantly went to look up who it was by and was pleasant surprised to see it was a 韦礼安 song! This song is just so cute—but in a good way!

《不用告诉我》 was not very memorable to me at first, but then I found that I had the line 让我卑微地享受 片刻的永久 stuck in my head. Oddly, this song really feels like an album intro song to me, but it’s #6 in the tracklist.

《记得回来》 has pretty simple lyrics that I think many of us can understand, which is a huge plus. It’s the perfect song to belt along to (even as someone who sucks at singing).

《忽然》 is basically the definition of a song that starts slow and then builds up to an explosion. It even has a nifty guitar solo. 10/10 recommend.

《如果可以》 is a huge hit for a reason. It does give off major “movie theme song” vibes, which can be a turn-off, but I still like it. Also, there are official Japanese and Korean versions, so if you’re learning those languages, check them out!

徐佳莹 / LaLa Hsu 《言不由衷》 is a song I’ve heard many times before because I’ve listened to the album it’s from a lot. Oddly, it never stood out to me before, but I somehow “rediscovered” it this spring and really fell in love.

邱锋泽 / Feng Ze

《冰山》 is just super catchy! Part of me registers that the lyrics are actually a bit sad, but I end up singing along with a smile on my face. Whoops.

《年青有为》is one of two songs to the same melody. The other song is sung in Cantonese, and it’s called 《一表人才》. They both also include singer 吕爵安. Honestly this song isn’t that special. I just like it.

《潜台词》 is actually a duet with 黄伟晋. This song really drilled its way into my head. I seriously cannot stop humming it! It has a somewhat slow and mellow but also hard-hitting. Surprisingly, I don’t mind the rap (I’m not a big rap fan).

《日环食》 was the first Feng Ze song that clicked with me. It’s a relatively simple song, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It feels quite earnest.

九泽CP / Nine Chen & Feng Ze 九泽CP is a duo comprised of Nine Chen (陈零九) and Feng Ze (邱锋泽). I have to learn how to distinguish their voices (something I am not good at in general). This feels like cheating somehow because it means I have way too many Feng Ze songs here.

《偷走你的心》 is bubblegum pop, but I love it. It’s so infectious and makes me feel bubbly. I love the little opening sax(?) moment too. It reminds me a bit of a kpop song with the short rap sections. Only thing I don’t like is that it’s too short!

《绝对发言》 has a lot in common with the previous song, but it’s a little more funky and spirited in my opinion. If you like one, I’m sure you’ll like the other.

《最后一秒钟》 is quite different from the two right above. It’s more somber and serious, but I think the duo pulled off this style very well as well. It does not feel nearly like a 5 minute song!

井胧 / Jing Long I was introduce to Jing Long while watching Chuang 2021, and *SPOILER* I was very upset that he did not make it to the final because I love his unique voice! Fortunately, he seems to be doing pretty well for himself from what I’ve seen.

《不删》 is another song that I can understand very easily. Sometimes I feel a bit silly listening to a song about WeChat, but obviously this song is about much more than just that. Jing Long’s voice conveys the emotions so well.

《丢了你》 - In the time between when I started drafting this post and today, this song was removed from US Spotify and then added back. Get your act together, Spotify and music labels! I was distressed to see it greyed out—then it suddenly reappeared! But anyway the song is really good.

华晨宇&杨宗纬 / Hua Chenyu & Aska Yang 《国王与乞丐》 is not at all a recent discovering, but for some reason I’ve been drawn back to it lately. It’s a lovely duet. But something wacky has been going on with the 《异类》 album on US Spotify too. I kept having to remove and then readd this song to my playlist. You’ve been warned!

Top 10 BLs I watched in 2021

As the year comes to a close I’ve decided to take a look at all the BLs I watched in these past 12 months and determine my faves. Notice that it’s BLs I watched in 2021, not BLs released in 2021.

1. Manner of Death (Thailand, 2020)

Even though the majority of this aired in 2020, it wasn’t finished until January 2021 so it counts as a 2021 watch for me. God the theories we discussed after every episode, we all must’ve looked absolutely insane. Peak clown behaviour... Anyways, this is the direction I hope more BLs take in the future. Not necessarily crime/thriller (though that IS one of my favourites and I would not complain about more of that) but what I want to see is BL delving into a variety of genres. You could see how a more serious and mature approach really elevated MaxTul and their acting to a new level and I wish to see more CPs explore that in the future.

2. We Best Love (Taiwan, 2021)

I distinctly remember the moment I scrolled through WeTV and saw this being announced and thought “Oh well, this looks like a small passion project, might check it out.” Well... it IS a passion project but it definitely isn’t small anymore. I recently rewatched this and to be quite honest, the story is not the most amazing thing you’ll ever watch (shoutout to S2EP2 though, that shit was mental). But the reason why I can’t let go of this one is the actors. Apart from loving the supporting actors (Tian and Evan specifically), SamYu simply has me in a chokehold point blank. No other CP compares to them. And even though I‘m scared of what kind of drama plot will be introduced in S3 I absolutely cannot wait for it simply because of all the SamYu content we will get from the promo. Like… @schnaf and I have a wishlist for result entertainment of things we need them to do - and those moving cat ears that read your brain waves are on the very top of it.

3. Bad Buddy (Thailand, 2021)

Ok, I know this hasn’t finished airing yet but I think we can all agree that this deserves to be on here. I heavily doubt they will fuck up the ending so we’ll let it slide. Bad Buddy really looked at all the things a Thai BL can do wrong and then said “Hold my engineering diploma, we’ll show you how it’s done.” Like... it still uses a lot of typical tropes, nothing about the story is particularly groundbreaking or anything we haven’t seen yet. And still, it works so so well. I think Ohm and Nanon’s phenomenal acting contributes a big part to this. But also P’Aof just knows what he’s doing. As much as I praised MoD for exploring a new genre, Bad Buddy proves that you can take all the tried and true things, like a uni setting and an enemies to lovers plot, and still stand out from the crowd. ALSO: Possible/very likely GL side couple instead of randomly pairing up all the best friends? We love to see it!

4. Word of Honor (China, 2021)

After The Untamed we’ve all been waiting for the next big danmei. Is it as good as The Untamed? No. But nothing will ever be as good as The Untamed so that’s okay. I’ll admit I gave up on trying to understand the plot halfway through but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy this drama. Everyone involved really did the best they could do to bring this novel to life by toeing the line of censorship. And with that ending? What more can you wish for honestly, considering the circumstances. WoH, at its core, is a story about bad people and I do love me some villains! Starting from WKX and continuing with so many beloved side characters, a lot of which were badass women, I can’t help but love this show.

5. I Promised You the Moon (Thailand, 2021)

Okay, I’m not a big fan of second seasons when it comes to BL because more often than not we’ll be treated to a cheating plot and IPYTM is not an exception to this. However, ITSAY was already revolutionary in how it broke the mold of what highschool/uni BLs were supposed to look and be like. And this continues in IPYTM. The whole thing just feel so much more raw. A lot of Thai BLs are goofy and ridiculous and that’s okay, those are fun as well. But ITSAY and IPYTM feel more like reality. You can feel how BK and PP really put their all into this project and I hope this shows producers that there are many different ways to tackle BLs.

6. Don‘t Say No (Thailand, 2021)

For the same reason I tend to avoid second seasons I also tend to avoid established relationship plots. Until I watched Don’t Say No. It’s laughable how bad the trailer is compared to the actual show. In fact, it almost stopped me from watching this. Well, thank god I still did! I think LeoFiat are the couple with the best communication skills out of all the BLs I’ve watched so far. They have a very specific relationship dynamic that could definitely be interpreted as dom/sub but - and this is the thing - it’s healthy! Which is why I can’t believe the people who made Tharntype also made DSN. To me, it feels like the complete opposite. As for JaFirst: I hope they’ll get another series because they do have a lot of chemistry.

7. Couple of Mirrors (China, 2021)

Listen, I know I said BL but CoM deserves a spot on this list, period. I went into this knowing nothing and was positively surprised by the mature subject matter. Who doesn’t love a bit of murder, crime and intrigue? On top of that, our two mains were just way too cute! And just like with WoH, considering the censorship this drama went through we still got a lot of things that definitely hinted at more than just friendship. I also really loved the historical setting in the Republican Era and really want to see more of that. Thank god we’ll get season 2, right?

8. Be Loved In House: I Do (Taiwan, 2021)

Is the premise of this enemies to lovers plot ridiculous? Yes, but who even cares. What can I say? I’m a sucker for omg they were roommates! This was like a fun little snack: it didn’t feel too serious and god, did it have some ridiculous scenes. But sometimes, that’s all you need. Obviously, this wasn’t something that will stick with you forever, but that’s okay. The mains did a very solid job and we even got a bit of steamy action towards the end, so all in all I would definitely recommend this.

9. Together With Me (Thailand, 2017)

This is on the list simply for S1EP1 scene 1 alone. Like HELLO? I watched this after MoD so I already knew how MaxTul act with each other but still… insanity. Unfortunately, the trope of the jealous (ex-) girlfriend is heavy with this one but it also gave us one of THE BEST female side characters in all of BL: Queen Yiwha! We love, we stan, we ship her with Fai (yes, we’ll ignore Bad Romance for our sanity’s sake). Major point deduction for the creepy doctor though...

10. Why R U? (Thailand, 2020)

Half of this was great (Fightor) and half of this was boring (SaifahZon). Which is why I have to say I’m very glad Fightor ended up becoming the main couple at some point. Of course they had their ups and downs and some scenes were... questionable but in the end I did enjoy their story a lot.

EP 9 & 10 of Y-Destiny (2021)

Kaengputh my beloved! There really wasn’t enough time in just these two episodes to tell their story so it all just felt a bit rushed but First and Toru made up for it with their phenomenal performance. I really hope these two will get their own series soon because their on-screen chemistry is INSANE.

Until We Meet Again (2019)

Okay, I’ll admit I skipped through most of this. It’s in honorable mentions because of WinTeam. No regrets.

My Engineer (2020)

Congrats for being the worst BL I’ve ever watched yet somehow still making me obsessed for like two weeks straight. This is the complete opposite of Bad Buddy. It looked at all the previous Thai BLs and said “I can do worse!” If it weren’t for the side pairings I would’ve dropped it. Filled to the brim with every bad BL trope you can think of it really cranks up the cringe-o-meter but then again it was all so ridiculous and trashy that it was funny. (Also, I will forever stay mad about how Ryan got the absolute worst dub in existence and then got kicked off the show.)

Kpop ship compilations

Listen, Kpop and BL are inseparably linked in my head forever now. From actor/idol friendships to idols starring in BLs themselves to Kpop fanfiction being adapted into BLs - there is no way I could ever separate these two. So including this just makes sense to me. Top ships I enjoyed this year were: Chanlix, Minsung, Jilix, Changjin (all Stray Kids), Woosan (Ateez), every possible BTS ship you can imagine but particularly Jikook, Sope, Hopekook and Yoonmin, and most recently Yeonbin (TXT).
