We can create interesting and colorful sculptures using only paper and glue. Here are two artists who use form and color in really exciting ways.

Do: Get some colored paper, glue, and scissors. If you don’t have colored paper, use magazine scraps or paint/color some white paper.

Younger students can… roll and crumple papers and glue them down to create a sculpture. Add beads, found objects, toilet paper rolls…

We had the most amazing homeschool day yet today! We combined Gymnosperm and Conifer week to make room for some Halloween themed science the next two weeks and we found everything on our scavenger hunt list plus everything we had missed the weeks prior. 🌿 We often do our nature walks at our local Botanical Garden just meandering and seeing what we can find, but since this week seemed more specific I dug a little deeper and found an app that you could search for every plant variety in the garden that would place it on a map. 🌿 Low and behold the Clemson Botanical Garden has a separate Jurassic Garden!! It was literally a walk through time - and the first 8 weeks of Blossom and Root Year Two. We found everything from non-vascular algae and moss, to horsetails and ferns, to gymnosperms including cycads and ginkgo trees! I literally could not contain my excitement but I think we made one of the groundskeepers day. 🌿 We then hiked over to the conifer garden and had lunch under the pines and firs and hunted and found yews, cypresses, hemlocks, and cedars. 🌿 We also fit in some nature journaling, went over the big picture points for the science wonders and read Anansi from Trickster Tales under some trees that originated from West Africa. 🌿 I just love days like this where everything comes together so perfectly and am so thankful for great resources like the Clemson Botanical Garden and Blossom and Root Curriculum. 🌿 #begoodstewards #clemsonbotanicalgardens #blossomandroot #jurrasicgarden #horsetails #ferns #fiddleheads #conifers #gymnosperms #cycads #livingfossils #1000hoursoutside #lastchildinthewoods #wildandfreekids #covidhomeschool #bestdayever (at South Carolina Botanical Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGnkAl9JOxc/?igshid=zw7d6gqjvnc3

Been wanting to watch this again... it’s such a feel good movie! Perfect night to do it. Today was the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL... Yeehaw!!!!! Wheew it’s been an intense few weeks, I’m behind on all things. But they are done. And that is celebratory after a semester like this. We worked until 1:00am last night on one final paper. I felt like I was going to lose my marbles, I needed to walk badly and my stomach was a mess and I had a headache and I was doing laps around the house in the dark and Rick was like, welcome to parenting, haha! OMG. My favorite is when Rick plays doctor treating me usually at the end of the night before bed with something or other for my various ailments. :) Sometimes its when he inflicts wounds on me like stepping on my foot and giving me neuropathy or squeezing my finger... sigh LOL!! He doesn’t do it on purpose, ha. It’s cute when he swoops into EMT mode, its his way of caring I think; I know he doesn’t like me hurting,

David has grown over the past couple months and learned through this (painful) experience of working from home, and Andrew has too, in different ways. That is gratifying to see and makes all this time and life witnessing energy worth it. We all need life witnesses! I’m grateful for the opportunity to do it for someone else, especially knowing how much it has meant to me and helped me through squirrel-y times.  But now, on with summer break and everything else!

This is what school looked like today since the youngest Sprout woke up feeling bad. 🌱 So lots of snuggles, read alouds in bed, educational videos streamed on the TV, and the occasional wrestle match when medicine was working. 🌱 I could feel like this was a lost day and incapable of teaching one child while caring for the other who is sick and let this derail our whole week. But because of the path we are on, I was able to nurture both Sprouts.
