The Psychotic Part in All of Us
Few eclectic insights following Don Caverth on Bion, Lacan & conversations with friends
In Bionian psychoanalysis, the psychotic part of the psyche is a universal component of human experience. When we operate within the PS (paranoid-schizoid) position, we are engaging with this psychotic part. This aspect of the self actively resists emotional reality; it attempts to destroy or fragment painful thoughts and emotions. Sometimes, this includes attacking our own mental apparatus, undermining the very capacity to think and process experience.
Container and Contained: In Bion’s model, the mind is a potential container for truth. However, this container is not perfect; it is akin to a sieve, riddled with holes through which truth may escape. Lacan’s concept of foreclosure offers a parallel: the foreclosure of the fundamental gap or cut between subject and object—essential to recognizing “I am not the other”—can lead to psychosis. Bion’s understanding of the Oedipus complex reflects this dynamic. In the myth, Tiresias is blind, yet he sees the truth, while Oedipus blinds himself to evade reality.
Thoughts Without a Thinker: Bion’s concept of thoughts without a thinker describes the proto-mental realm, a state where unprocessed, uncontained thoughts exist without being assimilated into consciousness. Don Caverth questions this view, suggesting instead that these thoughts require a container to develop meaning. Without containment, they remain fragmented. When someone—or something—acts as a container, these thoughts can be integrated, enabling growth and understanding.
Dreams, according to Bion, are not merely a concealment of the unconscious but an active manifestation of the mind’s alpha function—its ability to transform raw emotional experiences into symbols and metaphors. This mythopoetic (what a fantastic word) quality of the mind operates unconsciously and is a marker of mental health. Dreaming represents the mind’s capacity to create subjectivity and generate a narrative, turning raw experiences into something meaningful.
Note: unlike Winnicott’s concept of “holding,” Bion’s container-contained relationship is not inherently nurturing. The container can crush the contained, or vice versa. This dynamic can be explosive, destructive, or even annihilative. Thus, the container-contained relationship represents not just support but also the potential for destruction.
Linking and Differentiation
Bion’s psychoanalytic framework emphasizes linking as a fundamental aspect of mental health. Attacks on linking—severing connections between thoughts, emotions, and experiences—are central to psychopathology. Don Coverth adds that psychopathology also includes attacks on differentiation, the capacity to distinguish self from other, mind from object. While Bion focuses on pairing and integration, Don emphasizes the necessity of separation and decoupling.
Sartre’s existentialist philosophy aligns with this idea: the mind is both a linker and a distinguisher, simultaneously connecting and differentiating. To create meaning, there must be a gap—a lack—between knower and known, between subject and object.
Dialectics of Psychoanalysis: Bion and Lacan
The dialectical nature of psychoanalysis emerges in the interplay between Bion’s focus on linking and Lacan’s emphasis on separation. Lacan’s concept of the No of the Father underscores a one-sided separation, which can result in an imbalance. Both the paternal function and the maternal function are necessary for a holistic understanding of the psyche. Lacan’s later work, in my perspective, especially his exploration of feminine jouissance, corrects some of this imbalance, integrating the idea of receptivity and creativity into his framework.
Productive Suffering and Mental Growth
As therapists, the goal is to help patients suffer productively—to think, talk, and feel their pain. This process fosters mental growth by bringing individuals closer to truth and reality. For Bion, mindlessness—the absence of meaning and the destruction of links—is analogous to Freud’s death drive. A healthy mind creates meaning, constructs stories, and generates images. Conversely, the destructive mind erases meaning, leaving chaos and fragmentation.
The ego-destructive superego, as described by Bion, exemplifies a container that undermines rather than supports. This parasitical linking consumes rather than nurtures, standing in stark contrast to the productive linking that fosters integration and understanding.
The Mystic and the Creative Genius. Bion’s idea of the mystic reflects the tension between innovation and societal resistance. Mystics bring new truths to light, but these truths often threaten established structures, which seek to suppress or contain them. Think of creative geniuses like Freud, Bion, or Giordano Bruno—figures who challenged conventional thinking and faced opposition for their insights. Creativity and truth are disruptive forces, but they are essential for growth and transformation.

Book of Stone
To the minimalism of Straub and Huillet we can counterpoint the maximalism of Oliver Stone, the most aggressive tabloid American director since Samuel Fuller (although Rococo-period Tony Scott gives him some competition). After two books on Wes Anderson, Matt Zoller Seitz has brought us a booklike slab as impossible as the man’s films. Can you pick it up? Just barely. Can you read it? Well, probably not on your lap; better have a table nearby. Does its design mirror the maniacal scattershot energy of films like JFK (1991), Natural Born Killers (1994), and U-Turn (1997)? Watch the title propel itself off the cover.
stone-book-coverThe Oliver Stone Experience is basically a long interview, sandwiched in among luxurious photos, script extracts, correspondence, and the sort of insider memorabilia that Matt has a genius for finding. We get not only pictures of Stone with family and friends, on the set, and relaxing; there are bubblegum cards from the 40s, collages of posters and filming notes, maps, footnotes, and shards of texts slicing in from every which way. Newspapers, ads, and production documents are scissored into the format, including a Bob Dole letter fundraising on the basis of the naughtiness of Natural Born Killers. Beautiful frame enlargements pay homage to the split-diopter framings of Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and the shadow of the 9/11 plane sliding up a facade in World Trade Center (2006). When Stone had second thoughts about things he’d said, Matt had the good idea of redacting the interview like a CIA file scoured with thick black lines.
The whole thing comes at you in a headlong rush. Amid the pictorial churn and several essays by other deft hands, we plunge into and out of that stellar interview, mixing biography and filmmaking nuts-and-bolts. Matt gets deep into technical matters, such as Stone’s penchant for rough-hewn editing, as well as raising some big ideas about myth and autobiography. There are occasional quarrels between interviewer and interviewee. Out of the blue we get remarks like “Alexander was not only bisexual, he was trisexual,” which was not redacted.
The book’s very excess helps make the case for Stone’s idiosyncratic vision. Matt’s connecting essays, along with the vast visual archive he’s scavenged and mashed up, made me want to rethink my attitude toward this overweening, sometimes crass, sometimes inspired filmmaker. He now seems a quintessential 80s-90s figure, as much a part of the era as Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Stone emerges as a resourceful defender of The Oliver Stone Experience, articulating a radical political critique with gonzo verve.

TIPS TO PREVENT YOUR SHOWER DRAIN FROM BECOMING CLOGGED
Tumblr media
1. AVOID OILS AND GREASES
Oils and fats are notorious culprits of drain clogs. These types of things can get into your kitchen drains through cooking. You may wonder how such substances can get into your shower drain. Your body produces oils that go down the drain when you shower and rinse. Also, when you use certain shower and bath products, they can leave residue that clogs the drain. Use sparingly and avoid getting large amounts of oil or grease down your drain.
2. FLUSH DAILY
Clogged drains build up over time. Therefore, one way to combat clogged shower drains is to flush out the drain daily to combat the buildup of residue and debris. Remove any visible debris, such as hair, and let the hot shower water run for a few minutes after showering. The force of the hot water will help flush the substances down the drain.
3. USE A DRAIN COVER
The most common culprit for clogged shower drains is hair. When you shower, loose hair falls out and travels down the drain. Over time, all that hair can accumulate and thoroughly clog the drain. Prevention can be helpful. You can prevent hair from entering the drain with a drain cover. This way, the hair will be caught before it is flushed down. You can buy stainless steel or silicone drain covers.
4. USE NATURAL SOLUTIONS
Two common household products can be used to keep drains clear or unclog them if they are slightly clogged. One is vinegar. This is an inexpensive and natural solution to clear your drain. All you need is half a bottle of white vinegar. Once you pour it in, let it sit for 10 minutes to work on the clog. Then, flush the drain with hot water. Another option is baking soda. This is a good option if the smell of vinegar bothers you. Just pour some baking soda down the drain and run some hot water. It will help clean the line and also make your drains smell better.

If you’re looking for an affordable way to jazz up your festive craft projects, then mini LED lights may be the perfect option. Not only are they affordable, but they can be used in a variety of creative ways to give your projects an extra touch of sparkle. Whether you’re looking to display a homemade wreath, create a festive ambience for holiday gatherings, or otherwise dress up the home, these tiny LEDs are sure to make any project come to life! With their ability to add a warm twinkle and punctuate the mood, mini LED lights for crafts can make any project truly stand out. Many of today’s LEDs are designed with versatility in mind, making it possible to customize the light display for any project. Different colors, string lengths, and nuanced brightness controls make LEDs the perfect choice for crafting. With a few simple lights, you can turn a plain tabletop into something beautiful.
Illuminate Christmas Baubles with Decorative LED Lights
Christmas baubles are a timeless tradition and a popular festive element. This year, why not incorporate LED lights into your decorating scheme for a sparkly and enchanting look? Whether you hang them singly or in garlands, they will surely add to the magical ambiance of your holiday festivities. You can choose from a variety of colors, sizes, and varieties to light up your living space. Twinkling starbuks, glimmering snowflakes, dazzling icicles, and sparkling snowmen baubles are some of the decorative LED lights available to brighten up your Christmas decorations. These energy-efficient LED fairy lights come in strings and clusters for you to hang from your walls and windows to give your home an uplifting atmosphere. Each bauble emits a warm, cheerful glimmer, adding a cheerful hue and hue to the festivities. You can also buy battery-operated LED lights, so you don't have to worry about plugging them in or using an extension cord.
Spell Out Inspiring Words with Mini Lights
Words of wisdom and inspiration can be a great way to motivate and encourage each other during the holidays. Spell out meaningful phrases, quotes, and holiday tidings with mini lights for a lovely and heartfelt display. You can install the mini lights on your mantel, near a door, or even around mirror frames. There is a variety of words you can choose from, such as “Happy Holidays”, “Wish the Best This Christmas”, or “Peace and Joy”. Aside from the literal meaning, the twinkling LED lights in the words will give an added sense of magical festivity to your Christmas decorations. You can also find inspiring proverbs and mantras in stores and string these words up for your family and friends to read throughout the holiday season. The mini LED lights will create a luminescent ambiance to your home and reflect a message of peace, comfort, and joy.
Create a Twinkling Luminous Lamp Cover
The lighting in your home greatly affects the look and mood of your festive decor. You can bring a vibrant and luminous glow to your living space by making your own lamp cover using tiny LED lights. First, choose a style and size of lampshade that best fits your aesthetic. For a luminous cover, you can use a clear plastic or a frosted one. To create the twinkling effect, you can use tiny LED rope strip lights. These LED rope lights come in a variety of colors and sizes. Simply measure your shade, cut the LED rope light to fit the measurement, and then wrap it around your lampshade. Make sure to secure the cables to the inside of the lampshade so that the lights don't move or come off. The LED rope light will illuminate the lampshade with a magical twinkle that will create an inviting atmosphere when switched on.
Create a Shimmering Festive Garland
Garlands are a great addition for adding a festive touch to any space. You can create an especially sparkly garland by using LED fairy lights. These LED fairy lights come in various lengths, sizes, and colors so you can customize the design and create a dynamic garland with many color choices. When deciding the length of your garland, measure your desired length and then clip off the excess lights. You can use the clips included with the lights or some heavy-duty craft glue to secure the lights along the garland. Hang the shimmering garland to the ceiling or around a door frame. The LED fairy lights will create a warm and cheery atmosphere while adding a sparkle to your decor.
Decorate Porcelain Ornaments with LED Lights
Christmas decorations can be made extra special by adding a touch of LED lights. You can decorate porcelain ornaments with LED mini lights to give your Christmas tree a memorable, radiant look. Decorating ornaments with LED lights is easy and fun! Pick out some porcelain ornaments of varying sizes and shapes. Select multicolored LED mini lights in various lengths (do not exceed the desired length of the ornament). Secure the LED lights around the porcelain ornaments with craft glue, hot glue, or clips. Once secured, hang these dazzling LED lit ornaments on your Christmas tree. The light they exude will fill your living space with a bewitching glow.
Construct a Lively Light Wall Display
Make your walls glisten and shimmer with a lively light wall display. You can build an accent wall with tiny LED lights that will truly make your walls come alive. Simply choose a color pattern of lights that matches your interior and wallpaper or paint the wall to make the LED lights pop. To make a wall display, trace an outline of your desired design and lay out the micro LED lights on the wall. Install frame rails on the wall to keep the LED lights in place. With the appropriate fixing strips, secure the rails along the edges and drill a hole in the centre for the power cable. Connect the LED light strings and transform your wall into a captivating luminescent display.
Make a Radiant Inspirational Word Mobile
Hang up a stunning and uplifting mobile featuring colorful LED lights and inspiring words. This DIY project is an easy and creative way to dress up your home for the holidays. You can create the mobile with origami decorations, a coat hanger, and mini LED lights. To begin, choose a paper of your desired pattern and create a few origami decorations and letters that spell out a meaningful word. For a festive look, use glittery, foil paper. Cut the LED lights to the desired lengths and attach them to the decorations and the letters. Secure all the pieces together with string, wire, or a hanger. Hang up the mobile anywhere in your living space and let the twinkling LED lights gicirl the magical message of happiness and love for all to enjoy.
Conclusion
Using mini LED lights for festive craft projects is an inexpensive, creative way to spruce up any home. The mini lights come in a variety of colors, sizes and styles and can easily be attached to fabrics or decorations for an added splash of holiday cheer. Additionally, these lights allow for endless creativity – they can be used to spell out words, string across a mantelpiece, give a plain jar a whimsical surprise, and provide the perfect accent to many other projects. So, gather an array of mini LED lights and get creative.

The Greenhouse - Cover
The Greenhouse - A March Needs Moms Charity Comic was created for 2022's March Needs Moms. It was originally sold on itch.io where all the profits made during March 2022 were later donated to Stonewall UK (the comic was not commissioned by anyone employed or affiliated with the organization, but was a spontaneous effort on behalf of the comic's creator).  As originally promised, I would later upload the comic in full for free, one year and one month after its initial release. So here it is, to be uploaded a few pages at a time over the month of April 2023.  I hope that you'll all like it <3 And if you're fans of gender transformation art and erotica or just fans of wholesome LGBTQ+ affirming content, there's plenty of it produced on a monthly basis on my patreon.  https://www.patreon.com/KimRinzley Thanks for reading <3

okay so basic rundown: i work at a music academy where i teach piano to amateur students I started working here because last december i did many rounds where i left my CV at so many schools and academies and stuff. Sometimes, as with this place, i didnt even fully go inside. I just left my cv with the receptionist and saw a lovely acoustic (vertical, but nonetheless ACOUSTIC) piano in the lobby.
Anyway, eventually i got a call from this place. And i had an interview via phone call where the owner mentioned how much she'd pay me and the hourly rate is actually quite quite good (this is in an affluent part of city). So i was really happy for my first class when lo and behold: i enter the actual classroom and omg. The crappiest, toy keyboard known to man is in there. And that is what we're expected to use for class.
The owner at this point was away, so i decided to be patient and wait to bring up how ridiculous it is to have a lovely (decaying bc the owner has not bothered with upkeeping it) piano in the lobby but expect us to teach in a shitty keybord when she was due to return like a month later. Now my patience was in the detriment to my students who are trusting me to teach them, when i CANT fucking teach them properly in that shitty keyboard. So i felt uncomfortable from the getgo, to be honest.
But anyway, the owner came back and i told her (who obvs knows nothing of music or she wouldn't have bought those shitty keayboards and wouldn't be letting the most valuable thing she has decay and die in the lobby) that it would be great to get the piano fixed and tuned, that i knew a guy etc. I even told her how much he'd charge and she was like "ummm maybe later sweaty :) um when we're more economicaly stable"
BITCH THE MONTHLY FEE THESE STUDENTS PAY IS THROUGH THE ROOF. For context, with just one student's payment, you could coverthe cost of tuning. And there have actually been so many students lately. So its just a matter of not wanting to invest where you should. A matter of not caring about the actual quality of the service your entire business is based on.
So anyway my patience expired. And i have been for like the past 3 weeks or so, straightup taking my students to the lobby to have our class in the old, decrepit piano. Which, even in its very sad state, is BETTER to the piece of shit they have in the classrooms. I cant deal with this anymore.
And obviously since my students arent stupid they've noticed the difference. They've realized that the keyboard is a piece of shit. And one of them texted me today asking me to just come teacher her at her home. Soooo im like stealing this woman's clients now. And that doesnt feel good either bc the owner has been a pretty decent boss, all in all, she pays me a fair rate and she pays me on time (which is more than can be generally said in this line of work for real)
Also the receptionist has seen me gradually lose my shit and just start giving all my classes in the lobby. Idk if she's mentioned this to the owner.
So basically, before things escalate further, i think i have to talk to the owner and quit. If my students seek me out, well I'm not going to say no to teaching them at their homes (for an even better rate, like twice as much tbh when you go to a persons house and teach them a single class you have to charge a lot more than if you have like 3 students in a row). But this situation just feels terrible tbh.
(Also i recently started a new job as a kindergarten teacher and the director told me she wants to buy a keyboard to start afterschool piano lessons and she ASKED ME WHAT MODEL SHE SHOULD BUY BECAUSE THATS WHAT A SERIOUS PERSON DOES. YOU ASK THE MUSICIAN PIANO PLAYER WHAT YOU SHOULD INVEST ON, YOU DOTN JUST GO BUY THE CHEAPEST KEYBOARD YOU CAN FIND TO SAVE A DIME. sooo anyway its not like this academy is my sole source of income)
IM GOING TO GET IN TROUBLE AT WORK OHMYGOD
