Television PEAKED as an art when Daisy Johnson told Grant Ward that he was a Nazi and his feelings for her made her want to throw up

This scene never fails to amaze me - Coulson’s actively carving the writing on his desk - it’s like his subconscious WANTS Daisy to figure out he’s the one behind the writing he’s been giving her, even though his conscious mind is determined to withhold that information, despite the fact he knows that not telling Daisy is a bad decision.

Coulson: If the Obelisk is back in play, we need to know what this writing means. Any progress on your end?

Daisy: I put some feelers out to my Rising Tide contacts about the painting we recovered in Miami, and no one has seen anything like it. [I love the fact that Daisy’s still/back in touch with some of the Rising Tide.]

Coulson: Keep looking. Something will turn up.

Daisy: What about the writings you’ve been giving me? Why don’t you tell me your source and I’ll follow up?

Coulson: I’m afraid that’s classified.

Hunter: Well, you’re the boss man. Maybe you could declassify it? [Hunter’s either being brave or very reckless in jumping in here.]

Coulson: I could. I won’t.

Daisy: Why not?

Coulson: I already answered the question.

Daisy: No, you didn’t. You skirted it. There’s a difference. 

Coulson: Then it’s a difference I’m comfortable with, but if you continue questioning my authority, then you and I are gonna have a very different conversation. One you will not be comfortable with. Is that clear? [Honestly, Phil, what makes you think Daisy’s comfortable with THIS conversation? Also, it’s interesting to me that when he gets up, he doesn’t button his jacket - usually he does. Even when he gets up from the table in the restaurant when Raina arrives later, he’ll button his jacket. It shows just how distracted he is by Daisy’s persistence.]

Daisy: Yes sir.

May: You know, keeping her in the dark won’t end well. [Wise words from May - you should listen to her, Phil!]

I find it interesting that Daisy’s actually working on the writing in her bunk aboard the Bus - I can’t help wondering if she feels more at home there than in her actual bunk in the Playground, particularly given the way Coulson’s been so closed off (as she mentions in this exchange with Hunter) since he started carving.

She takes Hunter up on his suggestion about talking to Ward - which is, I think, a very telling action: it shows just how worried she is about Coulson, and how desperate she is to help him that she’d willingly go and talk to the monster in the basement in an attempt to get more information. Back in ‘Shadows’ she was terrified at the idea of going down there, but her love for Coulson sends her to Vault D.

Of course, Ward thinks she’s there to talk about his revelation about her father, and she shuts him down pretty quickly before getting onto the reason she’s there.

Ward: Once Garrett started [carving] he couldn’t stop. That writing was anywhere he could carve it. On the walls, on the floor -

Daisy: On his desk. [I’m convinced Ward heard Daisy’s words here, even though she spoke very quietly, because his manner as he continues is more buoyant - like he’s suppressing glee at the thought that Coulson’s going the same way as Garrett because we all know how much he resented Daisy’s relationship with Coulson.]

Ward: To be honest, I was almost relieved when SHIELD put him down. The Garrett I knew was long gone once the writing started. And whatever took his place, I don’t think it was meant to survive.

Skye is not the limit

when Skye says comebackcomebackcomeback, you comebackcomebackcomeback and say Skye? Skye… Skye.

i hadn’t really started watching AoS just yet when i came across that bit, first as a gif, then in a fan video, and it haunted me until i finally got to The Magical Place and my heart could properly explode at the look of relief and pure bliss on Coulson’s face. i don’t know if i have ever seen a happier face anywhere.

first one a hope, second a prayer, third the answer. always - the answer.

That little smirk when she sees the jacket and the grin we see reflected on the glass when Daisy walks closer to the store, man, you know it’s the moment Plan B took form.

Mark; acquired. Right attire; found. Plan; hatched.

This moment is a favorite, because despite the handicap of the bracelet, how she wasn’t able to get near computers without LOCKDOWN popping up in moments, she found a way to track Coulson down without using a computer herself.

(Also, some people never bothered to watch this episode, or they’d know Daisy was always more than ‘just a hacker’.)

1. Chloe doing the voiceover in the pilot 2. Mike always tried to do the right thing but trusted way to easy 3. I roll my eyes just like the blonde French woman every time I see Brent 4. Rewatching this knowing what I know now boy Coulson had really shitty friends. 5. Skye meeting Mike was so much like Coulson meeting Captain America. They are such cool dorks. 6. Fitz is really gross. 7. Skye snark remains the same and Coulson is just charmed. 8. He is calling her an asset in the first 20 minutes of the show. 9. I love how Coulson ‘s reacts when he finds out that Skye has been taken 10. I love how concerned Coulson is about Ace. 11. Skye is the most developed character in this series. I can’t believe that they give her absolutely no credit. 12. Skye is always looking him up and down. 13. Coulson’s little smirk at the end when Lola rises. There were other things about this episode that I noticed like the mutual admiration and respect between Coulson and Skye. I think even though she was was trying to get in to get the info she needed she really fell for Coulson. Coulson was charmed from the minute she opened her mouth.

You know, this scene has the music, the pretty light, the slow motion, the babes looking gorgeous and the fact that it's a great pay-off for the "Coulson shoots Daisy" mystery the episode sets up at the beginning. But what gets me is that during this episode Daisy & Coulson are both terrified of the vision, of the fact that they can’t reconcile what Daisy saw with what they are certain of — that Coulson would never intentionally hurt her. They’re so shaken that they never even speak of it, rather we know how they’re affected by their actions: Coulson refusing to let Daisy go to save Charles (when normally it wouldn’t be an issue) and their emotional farewell when she finally leaves being the most obvious. In the end, not only Coulson doesn’t end up shooting Daisy, but instead he’s the reason she survives. His presence is not a threat for Daisy like they both feared, but actually he has to be by her side for her to live. Like, ugh. ♥
