39 because we need some angst lol (any pairing you like!)
oooh shit sadistic motherfuckers out here tonight... but bc itâs me, i decided to throw this into higa! verse!!! tysm!!
âCourtney? We need to talk.â
Justinâs fiancĂ©e appeared immediately, as though she had been waiting for him to speak. Her head poked around the kitchen door, curls perfectly pinned against her head, and then she started walking up to the counter. Her fluffy purple dressing gown was wrapped tightly around her body, protecting her against the autumnal chill, and mismatching socks adorned her feet.
Justin felt bad immediately. His stomach twisted with guilt, heartache and regret. Courtney was kind, and sweet, and she didnât deserve this. She didnât deserve to look so concerned whilst Justin studied her and absent-mindedly thought that over in Greece, he wouldnât need such a fluffy dressing gown.Â
He wasnât in Greece. He was in New York, in his apartment that he shared with the fiancĂ©e he had been somewhat pressured into proposing too, thinking about the girl he had left behind. He was far too young for this - for any of this - and it had all come to ruin. He was just young enough to make mistakes that were just hurtful enough to ruin lives who didnât deserve to be ruined.
âI think we do.â Came her grave reply, her lips pursed and her eyebrows furrowed. Even in her worry, she seemed graceful and good-natured. She wasnât fiery or passionate. She didnât set him alight.
She never had.
âThis is a breakup talk, isnât it.â She continued. Her tone was flat - not necessarily unhappy, just devoid of all emotion. Justin was baffled at how quickly she had gotten to the point. âWeâre gonna end the engagement and go our separate ways, arenât we.â
Justin could only nod. The lump in his throat had grown too large, and Courtneyâs comforting hand seemed to burn his skin. He flinched away from her touch - something heâd never done before.
âIt- It hasnât been right for a while... It wasnât even right before we got engaged.â Courtney mused. âI know it was because of pressure from your parents and mine. The business merger wouldâve been fantastic.â
Justin sniffed. âYou donât need my dadâs company name to boost yours. Youâre gonna change the face of modern business, Court. I know you will.â
He paused, taking in a ragged breath. âNineteen is too young. Too young to... give myself away to something Iâve never wanted. I donât want to get married so young and box myself in with work like this. I had to get out.â
Courtney nodded. âTwenty is too young, really. I donât know what they expected from us.â
âMore than this.â Justin gestured to himself, although he wasnât sure what he meant. Nothing made sense anymore, not since heâd left that god-foresaken island and its captivating inhabitants behind.
âWhy the change of heart?â Courtney asked, wringing her hands. âI- Iâm on your side. I think this has been over for a while, and we both need to move on, especially before this wedding is supposed to happen. But... what made things too much?â
The tears came forward before he could stop them, fighting to be first to roll down his cheeks. Again, Courtney tried to wipe them away, to help him, and Justin jerked away from her, sure that any touch other than Sharonâs would scar him for the rest of his life.
âYou and I have been friends since we were kids.â He found himself saying, letting the tears just drip. âIt made sense to start dating because thatâs what people do. Childhood friends to couple. Itâs just... how things are done.â Justin swallowed, mustering all the courage he could find. âAnd I love you Courtney, I really, honestly do.â
His throat seemed to catch. The words didnât want to come out; he didnât want to have to admit what heâd done. But Courtney deserved a man who was going to be faithful to her, and give her the life she deserved, and treat her like royalty and not like shit. She deserved someone who would set her alight.
âI love you. I just love her more.â
Courtneyâs expression didnât change. If anything, it softened. There was no hatred, no resentment, no anger - no fiery outbursts of emotion and passion and shock. It was alarming how much Justin had begun comparing her to Sharon, how she remained composed and dignified as Sharon had sobbed and yelled and beat the mattress with her fists. Sharon was explosive, a fireball of passion who felt every emotion too intensely, too much. Courtney had always been calm and reserved, and she knew how to control herself. Sharon was volatile and he was a spark in the night.
âHow long?â
âNot long.â Justin answered. âOn my trip away. I didnât have years of background with her. I felt like I did, though. Like weâd met in a past life.â
âAnd been lovers.â She finished softly. âLovers in another dimension.â
Justin nodded. âIâve never felt like this before. It burns.â
Courtneyâs hands were wrapped around a mug of now-cold tea, which she sipped at regardless. Her blue eyes were narrowed, as though deep in thought.
âAre you going back to her?â
âI canât.â Justin shook his head. âNot after the way I hurt her. Sheâll never want to see me again.â
Courtney shrugged. âAnd youâre gonna let that stop you? Why bother confessing this to me if not to go back and tell her that youâre a goddamn idiot and youâre back for good this time?â
It was bizarre - as if Courtney was on Sharonâs side, by all accounts in her view his mistress. Justin tried to ignore the way his heart thrashed and fought at the idea of going back and telling Sharon how much of a fool heâd been to ever let her go, and that heâd never love another as long as he lived.
âIt wasnât fair.â
âIt wasnât fair on who?â
Her expression said it all; her knowing frown and gentle eyes made Justin want to burst into fresh tears. She was right and he hated her for it, and he hated himself for it. In spite of all the ways he had fucked Courtney over, he felt in the pit of his stomach that none of it had been fair on Sharon.
He was a cheater and a liar and he didnât even have the decency to believe that it was worse for his former fiancĂ©e, and not the girl heâd cheated with.
Courtney turned around to leave the kitchen, as grave as she had entered. Just as she reached the doorway, she stopped and sighed, before turning.
âFind her, Justin. For the love of God, make it worth your while.â

kaleidoscope (courtlaska) - citrus
A/N: the Kaleidoscope music video really really impacted me as a baby lesbian and honestly the taller girl gives me Alaska vibes anyway, so this kinda just⊠happened. enjoy!
Before her transition- and indeed, sometimes even during it- Courtney had hated the beach. Sheâd been constantly worried that people were looking at her, judging her, seeing through her carefully-curated exterior to see that she was a fraud or a fake. That was a long time ago, however, and that mindset was long gone. Now, the beach was her sanctuary, a place of peace, where she could soak up the sun and listen to the waves and feel free. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm, and she was going to enjoy it for all it was worth.
She was musing on these thoughts as she walked down to the place where concrete ended and sand began, making eye contact with a blonde girl as she passed. The other girl smiled at her, shamelessly checking her out as they crossed paths; she was tall and tanned and carrying a penny board, and Courtney couldnât help but blush. What a cutie.
Realizing sheâd forgotten her beach towel in her car, Courtney turned back to head in the direction of the car park. Whew, she thought as she closed the trunk of her car, towel tucked under her arm, that wouldâve been a pain if Iâd remembered any later. She kept her eyes on the horizon as she walked back, mesmerized by the sparkling water and the white sandy beach. Out of nowhere, she collided head-on with a body and fell flat on her ass.
âOh my god, fuck, Iâm so sorry!â
Courtney looked up to see the pretty blonde from before, crouching in front of her and offering her hand.
âItâs okay. I need to look where Iâm going, I guess,â she said, cracking a smile as the girl helped her up. Noticing that her board was slowly rolling away, Court dashed after it and scooped it up, returning it to its owner with a shy smile.
âThanks. I really am sorry.â She tucked a lock of long blonde hair behind her ear nervously, and Courtney noticed that she had pink stiletto nails and a few finger tattoos. When she looked up to make eye contact, she realized that the girl was looking at her chest, and blushed when she was caught. âI promise Iâm not staring at your boobs,â she rushed out. âThatâs a really pretty necklace.â
âThereâs not much to stare at,â Courtney smiled. âBut I wouldnât have minded if you were.â
âOh.â She smiled, reaching out to hold Courtneyâs necklace between her fingers curiously, almost as if she wasnât completely aware that she was doing it.
âItâs a kaleidoscope.â
The blondeâs nose wrinkled in confusion and god, it was adorable. âWhat?â
Courtney smiled and pointed to her necklace, her fingertips brushing against the blondeâs. âItâs a kaleidoscope,â she repeated. âA really tiny one. Wanna look through it?â She watched the girl hold it up to her eye, noticing that her eyes were dark brown, almost black.
âWow. Thatâs really pretty.â
âGorgeous,â Courtney agreed, though she wasnât talking about the view through the kaleidoscope. The girl noticed and flushed again, biting her lip.
âWhatâs your name?â
âCourtney. Yours?â
âAlaska,â she answered, âLike the state.â
âThatâs really pretty,â Courtney smiled. âIt fits you.â
Alaska smiled back. âThanks. I guess youâll be wanting to get back to your friends, but it was nice meeting you.â
âItâs just me, actually,â Courtney admitted, perhaps a little too eagerly. âI usually come here by myself. Itâs really nice to justâŠâ
âTake it all in?â Alaska suggested.
âExactly!â
âSo youâre here alone,â Alaska stated. It wasnât a question, but Courtney nodded anyway. âGood,â Alaska said, a mysterious little smile playing on her full lips. âI could use the company.â
They walked down to the beach together- or, rather, Courtney walked and Alaska skated. She was good at it, clearly, and Courtney was almost a little jealous.
As if able to sense her thoughts, Alaska stopped abruptly and kicked her board into her hand.
âWanna try?â
Courtney shook her head, not wanting to make a total fool of herself in front of this super-hot girl. âIâve never done it.â Alaska shrugged, and Courtney hated herself for noticing the way her biceps rippled.
âThereâs a first time for everything,â she answered, taking Courtneyâs hand. âCâmon, Iâll help you. If youâre not into it, we can stop. Just try it?â
Hell, Courtney couldnât resist those big brown doe eyes. She conceded, and Alaska clapped her hands in excitement, dragging Courtney behind her to an empty stretch of concrete covered in bright, colorful graffiti. She placed her board on the ground, encouraging Courtney to plant one foot on it and showing her how to push off. Court fell the first time, but Alaska was quick, and managed to catch her. The second time, she managed to get both feet on the board and travel a few unsteady feet before losing her balance. Alaska seemed delighted by her efforts, and Courtney would fall off the penny board a thousand times if it meant seeing her smile like that.
âHere, let me help,â Alaska offered, placing her hands on Courtneyâs waist to steady her as she made another attempt. Her hands were strong yet gentle, holding her just enough to keep her balance but not enough to push her, and Courtney felt butterflies in her stomach. With Alaskaâs help, she managed to find her center of balance and stay on the board without falling, and soon Alaska was running after her, laughing into the wind as Courtney mastered the basics and skated down the sidewalk.
They stopped at the steps that led down to the sand, walking down them together and scoping out a spot to put their towels. When Alaska kicked off her combat boots- Combat boots? On the beach?- and her jeans, Courtney couldnât help but stare. She was so damned pretty, her legs impossibly long and slender, the high cut of her American flag bathing suit making them appear even longer. With her height and her relatively flat chest, Courtney wondered fleetingly if Alaska was a girl like her. Any semblance of rational thought disappeared, however, when Alaska turned around to set her clothing down on her towel; holy shit, Court thought, this girl has a perfect fucking arse.
Alaska caught her staring and wiggled her hips. âSee something you like?â she teased, pulling her long blonde locks into a high ponytail. Courtney blushed as she took off her own shorts and her cropped jacket, not saying a word. âGod, youâre even prettier than I thought,â Alaska breathed, eyes sweeping over Courtneyâs bikini-clad form. Courtney held back a smile as she smoothed down her plaits, reaching out for Alaskaâs hand to give it a squeeze.
âLast one to the water is a rotten kangaroo!â she called, taking off in the direction of the waves.
âThatâs so Aussie!â Alaska laughed, sprinting behind her to try and make up for Courtâs head start. Courtney was no match for her long legs and athletic figure, and Alaska made it to the water way before she did, splashing her playfully when she arrived only moments after.
âYouâre faster than I thought,â she laughed, a little short of breath. âI didnât think this through.â
âYou can make it up to me by coming into the water,â Alaska grinned back, holding out her hands. Courtney took them, gingerly stepping into the water and yelping when the cold waves lapped at her ankles. Alaska laughed. âCome on, itâs not that bad!â
âItâs coooold,â Court whined as she waded out to where Alaska stood, the water knee-deep for her and nearly thigh-deep for Courtney. Alaska pulled her close, pressing up against her body.
âIâll warm you up.â
Alaskaâs skin was warm, and she was tall and lean and soft against Courtneyâs smaller frame, her arms wrapping around the tiny girl and feeling bare skin on bare skin. It was so nice to have Alaskaâs hands skimming down her waist, resting on her hips, trailing down to her thighsâŠ
âYouâre so fucking cute,â Alaska murmured with a smile, and Courtney blushed.
âThank youâŠâ
âYou were right, by the way,â she continued in the same low murmur, and Courtney found herself short of breath again from the sultry tone of Alaskaâs voice. âThis water is cold as hell,â she finished in her regular voice, reaching down to splash Courtney playfully.
âYouâre the worst!â Courtney half-giggled, half-shrieked, splashing Alaska back.
âI said you were right!â Alaska protested, shielding herself from Courtneyâs retaliation. She scampered out of Courtâs reach, running through the waves with Courtney not far behind. There was something so freeing about running across the beach with Alaska, her laughter ringing in the air and harmonizing with Courtneyâs own. She felt like she was on top of the world, and Alaska was there with her.
âRace you back to the towels!â Court shouted again, now that she knew just how competitive Alaska was. This time, her head start was too great for Alaska to catch up, and she made it there before the leggy blonde did.
âYouâre mean,â Alaska pouted as she plopped down onto her towel.
âYouâre a big baby,â she replied, and Alaska pouted harder, sticking out her tongue. âSee?â Courtney snickered, âBaby.â
âOoh, call me baby again,â Alaska purred, pretending to lean forward seductively. Courtney rolled her eyes and began reapplying her sunblock.
âWill you stop pouting at me if I buy you an ice cream?â Courtney teased. âI canât handle those puppy dog eyes.â Alaska crossed her arms, turning away to hide the fact that she was smiling.
âMaybe.â
âWhat would seal the deal?â
Alaska turned back toward her, grinning widely. âTwo scoops.â
It was Alaskaâs suggestion that they share a cone, and Courtney admitted with a little embarrassment that she didnât eat ice cream as she was vegan. Alaskaâs eyes lit up, and she looked incredibly proud of herself when she presented the idea that they get sorbet instead. Courtney bought the sorbet cone while Alaska sunbathed and watched over their belongings, and the younger blonde looked delighted when Courtney reappeared with an already-melty cone.
âI canât believe you actually got two scoops.â
âRaspberry and mango,â Courtney answered. âAre you gonna have some first or should I? I donât want my hand to get all sticky with melted sorbet.â
âIf you insist that someone has toâŠâ Alaska grinned, darting forward to lick up the melting sorbet from the cone. They took turns sharing the frozen treat, and it was hard to ignore the tension between them as they were in such close proximity to one another. Neither of them quite knew who closed the gap first, but suddenly they were kissing, slow and open-mouthed, tasting sorbet on each otherâs tongues. The kiss was sticky and sweet and Alaska moaned blissfully against Courtneyâs mouth, enjoying everything about this moment. They only broke apart when Courtney cursed under her breath; the melting sorbet had finally ended up dripping onto her hand. She swapped the cone into her other hand, but before she could grab a napkin, Alaskaâs tongue was dragging over her skin, licking up the melted sorbet. Courtneyâs heart raced as Alaska made steady eye contact with her, sucking on two of Courtneyâs fingers, where the sorbet hadnât even dripped. Fuck.
Alaska pulled away with a sultry smile, stealing the cone out of Courtneyâs other hand and proceeding to lick the sorbet in the filthiest way Courtney had ever seen in her life. She couldnât help but blush as she watched Alaska finish off the cone; she obviously knew exactly what she was doing to Courtney, and she was clearly quite smug about it.
âThank you for buying,â Alaska said breathily, depositing herself into Courtneyâs lap and throwing her arms around her neck. Courtney was near-frozen as Alaska ground against her lap shamelessly, pressing sticky kisses to her cheeks.
âA-AlaskaâŠâ
The taller girl pulled back, looking earnestly into Courtneyâs eyes. âDo you want me to stop?â
âI⊠Itâs good, just⊠Not here, maybe?â She gestured to the beach full of people, and Alaska giggled, dismounting her lap.
âRight. I kinda forgot. You make me feel like weâre alone.â
âI come here a lot, thereâs this little spot on some rocks, by a waterfall⊠We could go there if you wanna be alone.â
âIâll do whatever you want me to if it means we get to keep making out,â Alaska said simply, blissfully unaware of the way her words made desire twist in Courtneyâs stomach. They packed up their towels and got dressed again, and Courtney took Alaskaâs hand to lead her to the secluded spot. Getting across the rocks was a little tricky, so not many people bothered, much preferring the soft sandy beach. They could be completely and utterly alone.
The little rocky outcrop was, as Court had suspected, completely vacant. The only sounds were the waterfall and the birds, and it was clear from her expression that Alaska was in love with Courtneyâs secret place.
âI love that we can still see the ocean from here.â
âIâm glad you like it,â Court answered, sitting down on the edge of a rock that jutted over a sparkling tide pool. âItâs one of my favorite spots.â
âItâs beautiful,â Alaska agreed wistfully, dropping her bag and sitting beside Courtney, allowing the older girl to lean into her and rest her head on her shoulder. Their legs intertwined and Courtney took Alaskaâs hand, perfectly content to be sharing the view with her.
Courtney felt Alaska reach down, and she sat up with a grin. âIf youâre about to splash me again, Iâll kill you,â she threatened emptily, and Alaska shrieked with laughter as she allowed the water in her cupped hands to rain down on Courtney. âAlaska!â
âYou looked like you needed to cool down,â Alaska said innocently, âI was helping!â
âSure you were,â Courtney grumbled, finding it impossible to hide her grin. Alaska mirrored her grin, leaning in to kiss her again, softer this time. No one was watching them, so Court could take as much time as she liked kissing Alaska, not having to worry about rude stares. Alaska shucked off her jeans between kisses, giving the excuse that she was hot, but by the way she was trying to pull Courtney to lay on top of her on the rocks, it was obvious what she was trying to do.
âI shouldâve worn a bikini,â she breathed as Courtney lavished her neck with kisses, leaving a few love bites here and there. Court chuckled at that, stopping Alaska as she moved to take her entire one-piece off.
âThis isnât a nude beach,â she laughed softly, and Alaska pouted.
âI know, I just⊠I want you,â she admitted, squirming a little against the warm rock. Courtney smiled and lay down beside her, cuddling up to her as her fingers crept down Alaskaâs body. She pulled the crotch of her bathing suit aside, and Alaska gasped shamelessly. âPleaseâŠâ Courtney kept kissing her, deep and slow, as her fingers parted Alaskaâs folds and found her already wet and wanting.
âYou werenât joking about wanting me, huh?â she hummed in the younger girlâs ear, and Alaska whined in desperation and embarrassment.
âNo⊠I want you so bad, CourtneyâŠâ
âThereâs only so much we can do in a semi-public area,â Courtney teased her, dipping down to collect Alaskaâs wetness and spread it all over her slit. Alaska gasped, her breath coming out in little pants and whines as Courtney slowly, languidly rubbed her clit, trailing kisses down her neck.
âPlease, please, please,â Alaska breathed, arching into Courtneyâs touch, impossibly aroused by the lazy way that Courtney was getting her off. Fuck, sheâs so fucking hot. âYouâre so⊠good at this,â she whimpered against Courtneyâs lips, her thighs trembling as Courtney brought her to the edge easily. With one more deep, searing kiss, Alaska was falling off the edge, melting under Courtneyâs fingertips and dissolving into pleasure.
When she came back to Earth, Courtney was replacing the crotch of her bathing suit and kissing her soundly, arms holding her close.
âYou are incredible,â Alaska mumbled, basking in the afterglow. Courtney pulled away to wipe her fingers on her thigh, sitting up and admiring Alaska in her semi-liquid state.
âYouâre adorable. I never asked if you lived around here or were just visiting.â
âIâm about half an hour away,â Alaska answered, basking in the sun. âYou?â
âAbout the same,â Courtney answered. âI come here when I can, but work keeps me busy.â
âWhat do you do?â
Courtney shrugged. âIâm a barista right now, but Iâm trying to make music work.â
âI bet you have the voice of an angel,â Alaska smiled, sitting up and twirling a lock of hair around her finger. âIâm sure youâll make it work if you really love it.â
âI hope so too,â Courtney smiled. âWhat about you?â
âIâm in school for theatre.â
Court look at her in surprise. âYouâre young,â she blurted out. Sheâd expected Alaska to be closer to her own age, with the way she carried herself and the maturity she exhibited, so Courtney was a little taken aback to hear that she was still in school when she herself had graduated with her masters degree around three years ago.
âIâm twenty-four,â Alaska laughed. âIâm finishing up my masters in music theatre.â
âThatâs incredible. Youâre a singer too, then?â Alaska nodded. âWe should get together sometime and just⊠sing.â
Alaska scooted closed, her hand on Courtneyâs thigh. âMmm, or we could do⊠other things.â
âDidnât I just get you off?â Courtney teased. Alaska shrugged, resting her head against her shoulder.
âIâm too hazy to come up with a good response to that.â
Court laughed. âIt was that good, huh? Iâve half a mind to take you home with me and ravish you.â
âMmm, Iâm not opposed even a little bit. I took a Lyft here, if youâre offering.â
Courtney smiled at her, pressing a kiss to her cheek. âMind staying âtil sunset? Itâs my favorite part of beach trips.â
âIâd love to.â
The sun crept below the horizon lazily, like it was trying to make every moment between the new acquaintances last a lifetime. Even as the daylight faded, Alaskaâs skin held the warmth it had soaked up all day, keeping Courtney warm and happy as they sat together on the rocks, watching the sky turn from blue to pink. When it began to sink into lavender hues, Courtney hopped off the rocks and shouldered her bag.
âReady to go?â
Alaska stood up and took Courtneyâs hand with a smile.
âWith you? Anywhere.â
