Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right now Israel's bombing Rafah, the last refuge for a million Palestinians, where they were previously ORDERED to evacuate to and are now trapped in while the US news cycle is dominated by Big Football Game And Celebrities In Attendance (at which Israel also aired a million dollar propaganda video). I wish I could say this is unbelievable.

regency au jing yuan how you are haunting me.
(continued here!)
a retired general who at the ripe age of thirty five has never taken a wife. never showed any interest in procuring a spouse nor does he entertain any attempts by the mamas of the ton to throw their eligible children at him. he is a polite scoundrel, kind-hearted in a way that makes those with half a mind question how someone with his demeanor could ever be the famed general who's strategies downed Shuhu during the Abundance Upheaval. he doesn't seem to care for his legacy, as much as he has cultivated one. he doesn't mind gossip, but doesn't entertain it much either.
you only meet him due to fortunate circumstances.
Tumblr media
lord Luocha, a successful travelling merchant, pledged patronage to you sometime ago. he keeps you in a little cottage on the grounds of his manor where you're allowed to mostly do as you please as long as there's a new painting hung on the lord's wall every few months or so. the lord likes when you play too. he brings back new instruments for you to try, though he never expects mastery. he has an air of mystery to him that, despite all of the time you spend near him, keeps you from understanding him fully. you aren't one to pry about it either.
lord luocha invites jing yuan over to partake in fancy spirits from a country and city you can't ever hope to visit, let alone find on a map. you bring lord luocha your newest work-- (a meticulously completed oil painting. something more abstract, suited to the odd lonely and isolation you feel in your little, cozy cottage, despite all of the comforts you are afforded)-- and happen upon the pair.
lord luocha examines your newest work with pride, and shortly after introduces you. 'his patron' he calls you, but offers jing yuan no title. you--
(do not have one. it was stripped from you a long time ago. you think being an artist suits you better, anyways.)
jing yuan offers you his name, though you already know it. you recognize him based on the prattling of the girls and boys at the market. they swoon over his stature, fawn over his good deeds, and make note of his identifiable red hair ribbon. he has the same soft, sun-colored eyes that you had heard the eligible young of the ton giggle about.
you bow to him politely.
you have no reason to linger, but luocha calls you to anyways. perhaps he is lonely. perhaps you want him to be lonely, so it gives you a reason to stick closer to his side in the rare moments he is home for more than a day or two. the proximity is shared with jing yuan, who regards you with keen eyes and a lazy smile. the attention upon you feels weighted, important, like you're something special.
you savor it, however fleeting.
perhaps, however, you misunderstood jing yuan. or lord luocha's intentions.
because as jing yuan rises to take his leave and you bow once more, he catches your hand, brings it to his lips, and presses a kiss into the soft skin. you're sure you smell of linseed and yarrow oil. he lingers there for a moment before meeting your gaze. there's a light of mischief in them that sends your heart fluttering. your breath catches.
when jing yuan is out of the manor, lord luocha pats your shoulder gently, "quite the man, isn't he?"
"i suppose... he is."
"you may speak freely."
"i am," you mince, and shake your head. you must be careful, entertaining such fanciful thoughts. "he is... kind."
"and handsome."
"lord luocha," you barely keep yourself from whining. "please, do not tease me. or the poor man. from what i hear, he has enough to deal with."
"the mamas do chase after him like foxes to a hen," lord luocha chuckles and studies your painting once more with a curious tilt of his head. "he'll ask to see you again, i'm certain."
"and why do you say that?"
"general jing yuan has never taken the hand of a potential suitor."
your heart feels heavy and warm in your chest, burning. "my lord, you cannot possibly think that this single action indicates that the general will... call upon me? that is highly unorthodox and i don't believe that's... quite allowed."
"jing yuan has never cared for the dances of decorum." lord luocha guides you into your gardens. the peonies are in bloom, full and lush in the humidity of late spring. "and, for the record, i don't believe he'll simply call upon you. court, properly, certainly."
"you're bluffing."
"what reason do i have to lie?"
"to tease me, as you so enjoy doing," you huff.
lord luocha simply hums and pauses near a bush of lilacs. they're fragrant, at the peak of their season. the scent rolls over you.
"if i truly intended to tease you, i simply would abstain from telling you of jing yuan's interest and allow you to be terribly surprised when he arrives and formally asks for you and your time. consider this a warning. i'll walk you to the modiste tomorrow, hm?"
you want to squawk at him. your linen dresses and tunics are fine (albeit smeared and stained with paints and oils over the years. you rarely bother replacing them.)
you want to protest and pry more, but lord luocha strikes you silent when he breaks off a cluster of lilac and tucks it behind your ear. he leaves you with your thoughts, however tortuous. and, perhaps horribly, you find yourself believing him. perhaps the warm-eyed general really was charmed. perhaps, your dresses needed replacing and you should contact your perfumer friend for a fresh vial or two.
perhaps perhaps perhaps, you can still feel where his lips lingered on your skin, like a brand. you never thought you could ache for burning, but in the gardens, you find yourself clutching your hand to your chest, craving the lick of the his sun's heat once more.

Do you have any tips to get back to the writing mood when the bad news on TV that I see/hear make me sad and/or stressed? In my country there's a TV news show that almost always has very interesting stuff, but some days there are those news about climate change, violence and imminent AI problems for artists and then I feel bad. I don't want my family and I to loose all the good moments because I'm sensible.
Struggling to Create in Bad Times
There's a lot of awful stuff going on in the world right now, and it's hard to find a balance between staying engaged and maintaining a reasonably healthy well-being. The whole point of staying informed and engaged with world events is so you can do better, be a voice of reason, make more informed choices, and spread helpful information to others. But if you're so burned out that you're sad, depressed, and can't enjoy doing the things you love, you'll be too burned out to have any impact by staying informed. Also: storytellers rule the world. It's through the stories we tell--books, music, art, photographs, essays, articles, video games, poems, plays--that we take what we've learned about humanity and use it to change hearts and minds. And you can't do that if you're so burned out on the world that you can't create.
So... that said... it's okay to unplug from the news for a little while. Yes, it is a privilege to be able to do so, but you're not using that privilege selfishly. You're using it to give your heart and mind a rest so that you can come back strong, re-engage, and make an impact with the knowledge you absorb.
It's also important to practice good self-care while you are staying engaged. Pay attention to your daily limits. Set rules for how and when you engage. Talk to your family and friends. Utilize online resources designed to help cope with the stress of a tumultuous world.
You can also read through my Motivation post master list for general help on rekindling your creativity when it's zapped.

perhaps this is in bad faith, but don't you think it's plausible that ms appleton was just a government food scientist who was sent to japan as sort of U.S. ambassador and given a generic, americanized name? we know that resources were scarce during the war and that many changes had to be made, or simply were made to cut costs, in the production of lots of things at the time. it just makes sense when you break it down that traditional shoyu is time and labour intensive to make but improves the taste of even outright bad dishes. at a time when people were forced to eat whatever food was available to them demand was likely very high to the point of unreasonably outweighing supply. either officials at kikkoman reached out to american food scientists for a solution or they offered one up themselves, given the fact that food science was undergoing a huge international renaissance led by the americans during the 30s, 40s and 50s. americans have a tendency to synthesize food. they also tend to feel strongly about imposing their culture on other countries. it seems more to me like this is a story about the american government taking extra steps to obfuscate the story of how they semi-successfully tried to be the final nail in the coffin of widespread, traditional shoyu production. less like some kind of yakuza conspiracy somehow centred on one woman. just the perspective of someone who's felt compelled to do their own research. it's my opinion that the way you're presenting your findings leaves massive gaps as well as leaps to get over them. i can't speak for the things you haven't shared publicly, obviously, but it feels a lot like you're dancing around the point. good luck to you in your research, regardless of my own feelings.
I think I agree that you're either arguing in bad faith or simply aren't really paying attention to a wider picture here. It's common knowledge that postwar economics in Japan were heavily influenced and remain to this day connected to organized crime and the Yakuza as an old tool of the imperial/noble order. We also know for a fact that the CIA worked with the yakuza during American occupation in order to manipulate political culture and economic structures.
It's also a common conspiracy in Japanese circles (or at least so it appears, and I want to be clear I am not voicing this as more than preexisting theory/belief, so I will not directly source to give complete credibility; consider this as context for why I might be interested in investigating further, just in case) that Empress Michiko and the Seifun Milling Company had close under-the-table connections with America, which would further influence the traditional shoyu brewing culture.
Like, I feel as though if you seem to be aware enough that America's treatment of Japan was one of extreme hostility and cruelty with little-to-no care about the nation or its people, solely using it as a means to enforce American/Western ideals and principles onto an unwilling populace and using violence and illegal organized crime syndicates to fulfill those goals...then why are you acting as though it's sus of me to look at a single woman in 1947 having this much power/control over Japanese-American relations when you have said yourself that shoyu is the single most important ingredient for Japanese food of all time, and only moreso during war rations/scarcity times?

Year-End Poll #23: 1972
Tumblr media
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: Roberta Flack, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Don McLean, Harry Nilsson, Sammy Davis Jr., Joe Tex, Bill Withers, Mac Davis, Melanie, Wayne Newton. End description]
More information about this blog here
I mentioned in a previous poll how fast culture changed in the 1970s, and that doesn't feel like an exaggeration. This was the final year of the draft and more American troops were being taken out of Vietnam. As American troops were coming home, The Today Show aired a "while you were away" segment to go over how the culture has shifted while they were overseas. Most, if not all, of this segment was a joke, but it shows that even at the time people were aware that something was changing and it was changing fast. To paraphrase historian Rick Perlstein, they left a country where The Sound of Music was the most popular movie, and they came home to a country where the most popular movie was Last Tango in Paris.
To get back to the music, it feels wrong not to shine the spotlight on Don McLean's American Pie. For one, I probably could have used the lyrics as the blurb for one of the 60's polls and saved myself a lot of time. The lyrics themselves show this changing cultural shift as well, reflecting on how aimless this new generation felt. It's hard not to put a 2020s lens on everything. But looking back at a time that was rife with political scandals and politicians not seeming to care about the rising bodycounts affecting their citizens, I'd be lying if I said the sentiment doesn't hit home. "A generation lost in space" indeed.
However, in addition to the longest song on this poll, I also want to highlight one of the shorter ones. Specifically, Joe Tex's I Gotcha. Funk music is going to continue to grow in popularity this decade, even though the full extent of that cultural movement won't always be seen on the top of the charts. But the reason I wanted to highlight this song specifically is to use it as a prelude to what's coming next. If you listen to the song, pay attention to the chorus when the rest of the instruments drop out to put more emphasis on the percussion and how Joe Tex's rhythmic vocals play against the beat.
And for my third highlight, if the artist behind the tenth song sounds familiar, that's because the song was by Mr. Las Vegas himself. Or, if any Fallout fans follow this blog (and judging by the results on some of the 50's-60's polls, I know you're here), Mr. New Vegas. Speaking of gamers, Pong debuted this year as well.
I've rewritten this section multiple times, because I don't want to gloss over a specific moment in history, but it also feels jarring to bring it up in a poll with mostly unpolitical songs. After spending a few polls talking about how the war affected the American psyche, it feels important to reinforce that the people of Vietnam didn't have to be soldiers or reporters to see the war before their eyes instead of on a television set. 1972 also marks the year of the Christmas Bombings, one of the most horrific 12-day stretches in an already horrific war. Even though I don't go over every historic moment in these descriptions, it felt wrong not to bring this up. Even as this event would result in the general population's mistrust towards Nixon and the government growing even more rapidly, it wouldn't be enough.
Nixon no longer had to worry about reelection and it felt like the entire country was holding its breath before something major happened.

Just a lil check in to say hi and see how you’re doing. So how are you doing? I hope you’re doing well! Are you itching to write anything in particular lately?
-ex lurker
I'm doing alright, I'm learning how to manage myself and emotions better.
I have been more leaning towards sfw works recently, I still like smut as the next guy, but there are so many other ideas I want to explore first.
Angst, fluff, drama, character studies especially. I want to show more attention to Laezel, Minthara and Karlach. I feel like I've been focusing on Gale, Shadowheart and Astarion too much recently.
Oh but also dragons, and alternative universes! I've been storming a couple prince Wyll ideas but haven't came up with anything yet.
Thank you for checking in anon, I saw your message too and it made me feel better. How are you doing? I hope you're doing well and all, i hope you're staying safe and healthy.
Real Life events and vent below.
I've been preparing for my niece's birthday, i got he the most beautiful cinderella dress I could afford. Which isn't much but It's something that I hope she likes. Also I never realised how hard it is to get your hands on bts merch until 5 of my nieces suddenly became hard-core fans of them.
My dude it is a major struggle, each time I want to order something then look away for a second, it's suddenly sold out.
But it's eating me up, how my niece gets a safe and happy birthday while newborn children are being taken off life support and forced out of hospitals in Gaza. That video of the kids playiny and sliding on the gaint hole in the street previously made a rocket. I don't think I have the right to call myself human anymore, it's beyond horrific what's been happening to them.
Funny thing is, I have always known about the Palestine conflict, we literally read about it in our history books in schools. I remember being in middle school and going home to ask my parents about it, i remember the teachers tearing up when bringing it up. I remember the clear discussions of the horrors happening right now there.
And all of that was softened up and watered down as much as possible for a kid to comprehend. Much like I had to learn about the major world wars, the Palestine history and the many many treaties that were broken by their colonisers took a whole chapter or more out of the school book.
I can't even begin to describe how important and how aware the middle east is of Palestine even before the current genocide intensified. It's straight up embarrassing and shameful how little the current middle east cares or sends aids for Palestine. After all that history, after all those talks and promises.
The rich ones are pandering to the west for a speck of dust of acceptance, ereasing their own culture just to become nothing more than a vacation spot for foreigners.
If you're wondering why the Palestine people have no-where safe to go to, is because all their arab neighbouring countries closed off their borders to them. So they can deep throat the coloniser's dick more I assume.
As much as my own country is corrupted and fucked up, the one right thing we did is that we never recognised Palestine's colonisers as an actual country and never will.
I learned english as a kid on my own to be able to read uncensored books, Agatha Christie ones. The arabic translations clearly had a lot of plot holes and cut content and it frustrated kid me endlessly.
But I didnt realise it would come at the cost of my own culture. I feel like It made me no better than the arabs who suck up to westerns and put english on a pedestal. The same goes for the rest of my generations, we are all young adults and we couldn't have been more disconnected from our roots.
That's why the westernisation of the middle east was barely met with any resistance from us, the young adults who were supposed to be the front line of defence against corrupt governments. The second I saw them fully celebrating Christmas and using fake snow to pander to the west is the second I realised just how doomed we are. They don't even actually celebrate anything, they're playing dress up with someone else's religion and history.
We have our own celebrations, even our own calander with our own new year yet it's forgotten just for us to act out what we saw in Hollywood and Disney movies.
Our own princess, fairytales and folklore. Yet I still bought that Cindrella dress for my niece.
To add insult to injury, the closet thing to a traditional arab princess dress in that store was akin to a caricature of a bellydancer dress.
I'm not better than them. Indirectly or not, all of our combined actions had a hand in dooming Palestine, in dooming our brothers and sisters.
And Christmas will come, and the same arab countries who didn't allow women the legal right to drive a car until 2017-2018, would celebrate it alongside the world. Pretending it's one of them, pretending it's not like its "terrorist" sister countries so please please pick me up foreigners!!

Hi, I want to say that while I agree that white people should ideally not weigh in on the morality of people of colors cultures, I feel that it would be very hard to enforce sometimes, and I wonder if there are any limits to it.
Are outsiders (in general, not just white) not allowed to criticize or weigh in on problems like for example gender inequality, exploitation of foreign workers and slavery in industrialized non-western countries such as Saudi Arabia?
I've read about certain traditions and practices in some traditional cultures that exposure children to sexual abuse/exploitation, for example the practice of child brides or early marriage among the Maasai and Samburu people in East Africa. Fortunately, there are usually organizations by the people affected by these practices but are outsiders allowed to say that they are harmful?
It's not that you're allowed to criticize or have opinions at all, but rather that the people who are directly affected should be the forefront of conversations about it. It's better to lift up the voices of people from those cultures who are hurt by those parts of it rather than adding your own voice in. Because when you add your own voice in instead of uplifting theirs, whether intentionally or not, it can take away people's attention from those affected. A person only has so much attention to give at any point in time. And attention given to white people commenting on things such as misogyny, homophobia, etc. in predominantly non white cultures, therefore, is attention that is not given to people in those cultures commenting on the same issues.
The reason I say I do not care about the opinions or voices of white people on problems in the cultures of people of color is not because I don't think they should ever have an opinion, or that they shouldn't say anything about it ever. It's because I do not believe what they have to say should be the focus at all, because they are not directly affected and do not understand what it is like to actually live in and as a part of those cultures. But that doesn't mean they should be silent about it. Because, as marginalized communities in those cultures are already a vulnerable, and usually smaller group of people, if everyone else was silent on it, they often would not hold the power by themselves to change the things they want to change. Which is why it is VERY important that their voices be uplifted. When a white person uplifts their voices as someone not in their culture, whether it be by sharing what they are saying with others, or repeating what they have heard from those within those cultures, etc, it gives the actual victims of these problems more range, a louder voice. And that absolutely is something you can do.
If the majority of women in a culture are saying their culture has a problem of misogyny within it, or the majority of gay people in a culture are saying there is a problem with homophobia in it, absolutely do say that that is harmful! Because by doing so, you are not speaking in a way that prioritizes your voice over those affected, but instead helping back the voices of those affected. And, in a lot of situations, that is one of the most helpful things a person from outside a vulnerable community can do for that community. Is share what they are saying, make the voice saying that there is a problem louder.
Sorry this is such a long response, but I hope that helps clarify and makes sense. Let me know if you have any further questions

bashing my head against a wall. i could fix binding blade's story. i could. and i am going to ramble about it and you can't stop me.
so long. this is so long.
Feli special usual features:
- tangents
- no apparent structure
- probably many typos
- getting emotional over the 2 moments i will actually deign to call well written
- i might as well just write fanfic at this point
- if you're me you understand
- actually dont even look at this. dont look at me.
first off one thing i actually really like about it compared to other FE games. everything, every location or name that ever gets mentioned, also shows up. every country can be visited and has more than one representative in the cast. additionally, you always know who to recruit people with if you paid attention to dialogue.
playing blazing blade rn and the augury really clutches it for that game. but in binding blade? the only characters i had to look up how to recruit were karel and gonzales. that's it. somebody's trapped or also fighting your enemy? talkto them with roy. anybody else? oh look, it's the brother clarine mentioned! that's the girl noah was hanging out with! that's sue's grandpa! character relations are clear and evident right from the introduction.
in short, the story is incredibly cohesive.
...doesn't stop it from being narratively weak though.
i've seen suggestions for changing who the main character is, and yeah, that works. the first suggestion is always lilina, which would work incredibly well. she fits more typically into the mold of FE lords, and hector's death gives her a more concise motivation for revenge against bern and zephiel. another suggestion i've seen is Fae, since she's the focus of the dragon conflict, and binding blade 100% undervalues her narrative potential (see: my complaint that she doesn't even get unique battle quotes against jahn)
(side note: for how cohesive the story is, jahn kinda spawns out of nowhere. like, he's the only guy not mentioned beforehand somewhere. wack.)
but the story could work with roy, i think.
so there's this part with roy and guinivere, when roy gets the binding blade. he asks if anyone could've pulled it, and she says yes. anyone could've pulled it with the fire emblem, but what matters now is that it's roy specifically who does so.
roy doesn't have anything to do with the conflict at large. he doesn't. the scouring? well, lilina's the descendant of one of the eight heroes. etruria and bern? elffin is actually the prince who faked his death, and he's the one percival and douglas care about. dragons? well, fae's the last divine dragon besides idunn.
but i think if you just like. made that the point. like echoes, except instead of undercutting your everyman protag by having him be a secret prince, he just stays.. some guy.
some guy who was in the wrong place at the right time, and it all just kinda spitballs until he's leading the etrurian army. ike is a protag who does this well, i think. it's just a job for him. and once he's done and paid, he leaves to do the next thing.
it's like. roy is kinda bland. but he doesn't have to be. this is ABSOLUTELY me honing in on minor character details because dissecting bland protags is a personal hobby of mine, but, dude was studying to be a bureaucrat. land management and shit. he's brains over brawn (if his stats didn't already show that). fucking string bean of a unit.
he is ardently chill about everything in the plot, but what if instead it like.. started to actually weigh on him. he struggles to live up to all the expectations suddenly on him, when all his life he just expected to be head of the second most important house of a minor nation. now there's un-dead princes and vengeful kings and dragons running about- and he has to unravel all these things as quick as he can to keep himself and his home safe.
what if he figured out that elffin is etruria's prince and had to weigh telling the three generals to gain their support, or potentially feeding an ally to the wolves? what kind of decision is dismantling the government of the nation you're supposed to be helping?
he just Does The Right Thing, Unquestionably, and that's it.
as for the dragons, introduce jahn earlier, by god. or, find some other way to exposition dump everything about idunn. hell, maybe fae has heard of idunn before, of a divine dragon who didn't make it to arcadia, and roy slowly reveils the horrifying truth of the demon dragon with what snippets he hears from bern's soldiers. maybe have an earlier fight with idunn actually staying on the field as a mysterious figure. anything. i bet you could just cut out jahn altogether if you did that.
like, make roy and everyman and commit to the bit. he wasn't born to step into hartmut's legacy. he just wanted to save his dad from a random attack. but he chose to do it anyway.
and one moment i do really like. from the atrocious exposition dumb of ch24. is when jahn says the binding blade conforms to its user's will, and that's how hartmut spared idunn, i could feel it just click for roy. in that moment, he knew how to save idunn. and he knew he would save idunn long before that.
play into the theme of legacies. hartmut's legacy is, on the surface, of the man who killed the demon dragon. a legacy of violence that roy finds himself in. but, beneath that, it was a legacy of kindness. of only as much blood as need be, and not a drop more.
put this against zephiel. he's like. i dont know how to phrase this. but the opposite of what the previous paragraph is. zephiel has a gigantic legacy as crown prince of an empire, but it's one that's denied to him out of petty jealousy by his father. i think his motivation is actually pretty compelling; he's lost faith in humanity. so he claims his birthright through murder, and uses it to end all legacies to ever exist. whereas the legacy roy obtains is kindness cloaked in violence, zephiel's is violence cloaked in kindness. by trying to end all conflict, he will only create an empty world. he doesnt really care about the dragons, either; it's idunn's soulless war dragons that are his ideal, not fellow creatures of ego like jahn.
and guinivere. god. the potential. zephiel has become to her what his father has become to him. it's again, legacy. zephiel's father broke his faith in humanity, and he has broken guinivere's. she is an ardent pacifist until the end.
....until she gives roy the tool he needs to kill her brother, that is. she first steals the fire emblem in the hope it will force a peaceful resolution. and she gives up. not in humanity. just in her brother.
GOD. THE TRAGEDY OF IT ALL?? in my head it could be so good. it's again just all cycles of violence and kindness. she's trying so so hard to break violence with kindness but it doesn't work. but she chooses to see the good in humanity despite it all. she really embodies that philosophy that roy brings up in his speech against zephiel. it may be humans who do wrong, but it's humans who stop them. we're all just going to keep making the same mistakes over and over, but we're always going to try to do better, and that's what matters. history isn't moving upward. just forwards. but we're trying. hartmut tried, and he didn't quite succeed; just prolonged it. but hartmut was just some guy who tried to save idunn, and that vain attempt was what allowed her to be saved for real.
(clears throat)
OTHER CHARACTERS!
so. since this hypothetical binding blade remake would cater to me specifically.
first of all, replace merlinus with lilina. binding blade's story with her is really hampered by the fact that lilina is killable.
only unkillable characters (i.e roy), characters who 'retreat' instead of dying (elffin, merlinus) or NPCs (Guinivere) are allowed to have narrative importance for more than their intro chapter and relevant gaidens. this blows.
make lilina the deuteragonist. there's already a clear trajectory for her; she calls herself a warrior, she says she must stay strong in the face of adversity, she cannot allow herself to cry now, but still she fiercely believes in the good of others. she's an incredibly good judge of character, and chooses to bet her life on kindness, as seen in how she can recruit both gonzales and garret.
she's, as brought up occasionally already, a much more archetypical FE lord, with a weighty legacy and a dead dad. it would be fun if she just bottles everything up and it crushes her. maybe she has her dad's temper and is trying to be a Proper Marquess in conduct. she n roy can find solidarity in fellow imposter syndrome. they'd both believe they're not good enough, think the other is so much better, only to end up as each other's biggest supporter.
and. listen. the lilina ogier support haunts me. and it gives a terrifying opportunity. like choosing your legacy and not being bound by blood but by shared conviction?
hey. what if lilina was adopted.
i dont know where exactly i'd put a reveal like this. second half of the game, surely. how would she find out? who knows. i don't. i'm just rambling about random points of potential. maybe she encounters someone in the enemy army who fought hector; murdock, maybe? and then it's pointed out how odd it is for hector to have a daughter when he died a bachelor. reverse alm.
and then she'd remember something incredibly distant, long buried as unimportant; of being young and alone and abandoned and seeing a city for the first time.
it would be crushhhingggg for her, since she relied so much on "blood of a warrior" as a crutch. BUT THEN! thematic coherence. it doesn't matter whether she's of his blood or not; there's no doubt in anyone's mind that she's hector's daughter, through and through. and she chooses to keep that legacy, to believe herself worthy of it. she didn't get so far by being roland's descendant; she did it on her own strength, her own smarts, her own merits. hector could've picked anyone off the streets, but it happened to be her, and that's what matters. the paths life offers are infinite, but we are here, and these are our choices.
and that's what i'd do for lilina! yay!
if it wasn't difficult to figure out logistically considering theme-ing and pulling an alm again i would also ABSOLUTELY make ninian!roy canon since blazing blade pushes elinini anyway. yeah i talked about the unimportance of blood but also. manakete roy is REALLY fucking funny.
"dragons still exist?" listen to me boy you are for real a dragon asking this.
also fun recontextual reading of his desire to learn all he can about dragons to learn more about himself since he would've thought his mother was the last dragon in elibe, which would've given it a more tragic slant. and additionally his very existence would be proof that dragons and humans can live in peace, which feels poignant. imo you could still push the everyman angle since ice dragons are largely irrelevant to anything happening with the demon dragon, and all the shenanigans nergal pulled had no effect on binding blade's plot outside of worsening zephiel's already bad relationship with his dad.
it's also just so so so funny to me. on god. it really is.
also allows for solidarity moments i.e sophia as part-dragon people. and also a reason for him to be invested in the dragon plot. and maybe a motivation for him to want to save idunn too. and the sheer irony of wielding a dragon-slaying weapon.
feli is this hypocrisy. maybe a little bit. But Also you can still push thematically. It Just So Happened that roy pulled the binding blade. there are dragons already living in harmony with humans. sophia may well have been the one to lead instead. she just happened not to be.
it also extends the just some guy-ness to eliwood i guess. he kind of is. to me. a gentleman, maybe. a righteous guy. but not the most important guy ever.
anyway! yeah! this was my word vomit about binding blade!
don't let me know what you think! i don't want to hear it because i am doing this to exorcise thoughts from my brain! thank you for not reading! bye!

Top 10 Things to Consider When Purchasing Silver Jewellery Online
Tumblr media
Buying silver jewellery online has become increasingly popular, offering a wide variety of designs, easy comparison of prices, and the convenience of shopping from home. However, the online world also poses unique challenges, such as assessing quality and authenticity. Here’s a guide to the top 10 things to consider to help you make informed and satisfying purchases of silver jewellery online.
1. Verify the Purity of Silver
When buying online silver jewellery, ensure that it is made of sterling silver, which is 92.5% pure silver mixed with other metals for durability. Look for terms like "925 silver" or "sterling silver" in the product description. Avoid items labelled as “silver-plated” if you’re after genuine silver, as they have a thin layer of silver over a base metal.
2. Choose Reputable Retailers
For the finest silver and gemstone jewellery, always choose reputable retailers known for their quality craftsmanship and authenticity. Look for certified silver jewellery manufacturer with strong customer reviews and transparent sourcing practices to ensure you're getting genuine, high-quality pieces.
3. Read Customer Reviews
Customer reviews provide valuable insights into the quality of the jewellery, the authenticity of the silver, and the reliability of the seller. Look for reviews that mention the durability, appearance, and feel of the product, as well as the buying experience. Pay attention to any recurring issues or negative experiences mentioned by customers.
4. Check for Hallmarks
Hallmarks are small stamps or marks on silver rings indicating its purity and authenticity. The "925" hallmark is standard for sterling silver, assuring you of the metal's quality. Some pieces may also have additional hallmarks denoting the manufacturer or country of origin. Be cautious if a product claims to be silver but has no hallmark in the product images or description.
5. Understand Return and Exchange Policies
When buying jewellery online, it's crucial to understand the store’s return and exchange policies in case the product doesn’t meet your expectations. Check the fine print to know whether returns are allowed, who pays for return shipping, and if refunds are in cash or store credit. A clear and fair return policy can give you peace of mind when making a purchase.
6. Know Your Ring Size and Measurements
For rings, bracelets, or other jewellery that depends on precise sizing, know your measurements before placing an order. Many online stores provide sizing guides to help you measure accurately. Buying jewellery in the right size will save you the hassle of returns and resizing, especially if the piece is intricate or has delicate stones.
7. Consider the Craftsmanship and Design
Examine product photos carefully for details about craftsmanship and design. High-quality silver jewellery should have a smooth finish, secure clasps, and no visible imperfections. Look at close-up images to check the quality of gemstones, engravings, or any other design elements. If available, read descriptions to learn about the techniques or materials used.
8. Compare Prices and Avoid "Too-Good-to-Be-True" Deals
Silver prices fluctuate, so it’s helpful to have a sense of the general price range. If a piece is significantly cheaper than similar items, it may not be genuine or could be silver-plated rather than pure silver. Look for the best value, but be cautious of deals that seem unrealistically low.
9. Check Shipping and Delivery Options
Shipping policies are important to understand, especially if you're buying from overseas or need the item by a specific date. Some online jewellery stores offer free or expedited shipping for larger purchases, while others may charge extra. Also, consider customs fees if you’re ordering internationally, as these can add to the cost.
10. Inquire About Care Instructions
Silver jewellery requires proper care to prevent tarnishing. When buying online, check whether the product description provides care instructions or if the seller offers a guide. Some stores also sell anti-tarnish bags or cloths as accessories, which can help you maintain the jewellery’s shine. Proper care instructions will help ensure that your purchase remains beautiful for years to come.
Final Thoughts
Purchasing silver jewellery online can be a rewarding experience if you follow these guidelines. From verifying authenticity to understanding return policies, these steps will help you make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls. Remember, the joy of owning quality silver jewellery lies in the careful selection, so take your time, research thoroughly, and choose pieces that truly resonate with you. Happy shopping!
This guide aims to provide a seamless shopping experience, ensuring you enjoy your silver jewellery purchase for years to come. Whether you’re a first-time buyer or adding to your collection, these considerations will help you make a confident and informed choice.

Step-by-Step: How to Apply for a Sweden Tourist Visa
Applying for a Sweden tourist visa may seem complex, but with careful preparation, it can be a straightforward process. A tourist visa allows you to visit Sweden for short stays, usually up to 90 days, within a six-month period. Whether you're visiting Sweden's stunning landscapes, historic sites, or modern cities, securing a visa is an essential first step for many travelers. The process involves gathering essential documents, attending an appointment, and waiting for your visa to be processed.
This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to ensure a successful application. From understanding Sweden visa requirements to submitting documents, it's important to be organized and timely. Proper preparation will not only make the process smoother but also increase your chances of approval, allowing you to focus on planning your Swedish adventure.
Here are some step-by-step: How to Apply for a Sweden Tourist Visa
1. Determine If You Need a Visa
Before starting the application, check if you require a visa. Citizens of certain countries are exempt from needing a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) within the Schengen Zone, which includes Sweden. Visit the Swedish embassy’s website or the Schengen Visa Information page to confirm your eligibility.
2. Gather Required Documents
To apply for a Sweden tourist visa, you’ll need to gather a list of documents. These typically include:
Having all these documents ready before starting your application will make the process smoother.
3. Schedule a Visa Appointment
Once you have gathered the required documents, you need to schedule an appointment at the Swedish consulate or embassy in your country. Depending on your location, this can also be done at a visa application center authorized by Sweden. Ensure you book your appointment well in advance, as processing times may vary, especially during peak travel seasons.
4. Attend the appointment and submit documents.
On the day of your appointment, bring all the required documents with you. During the appointment, you will submit your application form, supporting documents, and provide biometric data (fingerprints and photographs). Prepare to answer questions about your trip, including your travel purpose, length of stay, and accommodation plans.
5. Pay the Visa Fee
There is a non-refundable visa application fee that needs to be paid when submitting your documents. This fee can vary depending on your nationality and the type of visa you're applying for, but it generally ranges around €80. Confirm the exact fee with your local Swedish embassy or visa application center.
6. Wait for Processing
The processing time for a Sweden tourist visa can take anywhere between 15 and 30 days, depending on various factors like the time of year or the completeness of your application. During this time, Swedish immigration authorities review your visa application and may ask you to provide additional documentation if needed.
7. Collect Your Visa
After processing your visa, the embassy or visa application center will notify you to collect your passport. If approved, your passport will have the tourist visa sticker inside, showing the duration of your stay and entry requirements. In case of a denial, authorities will inform you of the rejection reasons and guide you on steps to appeal the decision.
Conclusion.
Applying for a Sweden Visa is a systematic process that requires attention to detail and proper preparation. By gathering the necessary documents, such as a valid passport, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, and financial statements, you can ensure your application is complete and ready for submission. Attending your visa appointment on time and following the guidelines will make the process smoother and increase your chances of a successful outcome.
Remember, planning ahead is crucial when applying for a Sweden visa, as processing times can vary. By adhering to each step, you'll be well on your way to exploring Sweden's beautiful landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. corporate tax rate canada
Understanding Corporate Tax Rate in Canada
Canada's corporate tax system is designed to support businesses of all sizes while maintaining a robust framework for economic growth. Whether you're a small business owner or part of a multinational corporation, understanding the corporate tax rate in Canada is essential for effective financial planning and compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
What is the Corporate Tax Rate in Canada?
The corporate tax rate in Canada is a combination of both federal and provincial tax rates. At the federal level, the general corporate income tax rate is 15%, while the small business tax rate is set at 9% for Canadian-controlled private corporations (CCPCs) on their first $500,000 of active business income. Provincial rates vary, with rates ranging between 11% to 16% for general income and lower rates for small businesses depending on the province or territory where the business is located.
How the Federal Corporate Tax Rate Works
The federal corporate tax rate in Canada applies uniformly across all provinces and territories. For most businesses, this is a flat rate of 15%, but there are lower rates for small businesses. A Canadian-controlled private corporation (CCPC) can benefit from a reduced federal tax rate of 9% on active business income up to $500,000. This small business deduction is aimed at fostering growth and reducing the tax burden for emerging enterprises.
Provincial and Territorial Corporate Tax Rates
While the federal tax rate is standard across the country, the provincial corporate tax rate in Canada varies. Each province has the authority to set its own tax rates, which can impact the overall corporate tax bill. For example, in Ontario, the general corporate tax rate is 11.5%, while the small business tax rate is 3.2%. In Alberta, the general rate is 8%, and in British Columbia, it’s 12%. It's important to consult with tax experts familiar with the rules in your specific province to optimize your tax strategy.
Small Business Deduction
For many entrepreneurs, the small business deduction (SBD) is a key feature of the Canadian tax system. As mentioned, CCPCs can enjoy a reduced federal tax rate of 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income. This threshold varies by province, and additional benefits may apply depending on local laws. The small business tax rate in Canada encourages startups and small companies to reinvest in their businesses, leading to economic growth and job creation.
Tax Credits and Deductions
In addition to the general and small business corporate tax rates, Canada offers several tax credits and deductions aimed at reducing the overall tax burden for businesses. These include the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Credit, which encourages innovation, and the Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit, which supports the hiring of apprentices. Depending on the nature of your business, you may also be eligible for credits related to hiring, energy efficiency, and digitalization.
Filing Requirements for Corporate Taxes in Canada
Filing corporate taxes in Canada requires careful attention to detail and a thorough understanding of both federal and provincial requirements. Corporations must file a T2 corporate income tax return each year, along with the necessary schedules and forms that correspond to their specific business activities and deductions. The filing deadline is typically six months after the end of the corporation's fiscal year, and failing to meet this deadline can result in penalties.
Conclusion: Importance of Understanding Corporate Tax Rates
Understanding the corporate tax rate in Canada is crucial for business owners, financial planners, and tax professionals. By staying informed about federal and provincial rates, as well as taking advantage of available tax credits and deductions, businesses can reduce their tax liability and optimize their financial strategy. Seeking professional advice from tax consultants is highly recommended to ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws and to make the most of the country's tax incentives.

Hiring Developers in India: A Comprehensive Cost Analysis
If you're thinking about expanding your development team, there are chances you've come across the idea to hire developers in India. You’ve probably heard success stories from businesses that have saved a lot of money while still getting high-quality talent.
But before you make any decisions, it’s important for you to get a clear picture of what you’re really getting into. What’s the cost of hiring developers in India, and why does this model work so well for so many businesses? Let’s break it down together.
Why You Should Consider To Hire Developers in India
Hiring developers, whether in-house or remote comes with costs. However, one major pain point for many companies, especially small to mid-sized businesses, is how to balance the quality of software development with the costs they incur. If you’ve stepped out into the market, you’d know that hiring top-notch tech talent from countries like the US, the UK or Europe can drill a hole in your pocket. That’s why I’d recommend you to hire developers in India to work on your dream project.
India has been a global hub for tech talent for years, and the reason is simple: access to a highly skilled workforce at a fraction of the cost. But what is the ground reality? What makes hiring developers in India an attractive option for businesses in the West?
The Real Cost Breakdown: What Are You Paying For?
When you consider to hire software developers remotely, it’s important that you understand that cost structure is the most crucial aspect for you to take care of. The cost of hiring developers in India depends on a variety of factors, and the total sum isn’t just their salary. Let’s take a look at the cost components to gain a deeper understanding:
1. Salaries of the Developers
The biggest chunk of your expense will naturally be salaries. Indian developers are highly skilled, but because the cost of living in India is lower than in Western countries, their salaries are more affordable. This is why businesses that seek to optimize their operations while adhering to their budgets prefer to hire developers in India.
2. The Costs When You Hire Dedicated Developers
When you hire dedicated developers, you get a team committed exclusively to your project. This gives you more control over the development process and ensures that your project gets the attention it needs. Dedicated developers may come at a slightly higher rate than freelance or part-time developers, but the consistency and focus they bring often justify the investment.
3. Administrative and Overhead Costs
One of the hidden costs that you might often overlook when you hire developers in India remotely is the administrative overhead. If you hire software developers locally, you’re likely responsible for office space, utilities, equipment, benefits, and HR costs. On the other hand, when you hire developers in India, especially through outsourcing or staff augmentation models, these overheads are usually handled by the vendor or service provider.
4. Training Cost
Another factor that you must consider when you hire dedicated developers for your project is how long it takes a developer to get up to speed. Even experienced developers need time to familiarize themselves with your systems, tools, and processes. The good news here is that the Indian developers are generally familiar with global standards and are quick to adapt to new work environments. Training and ramp-up time might add an extra cost to the overall cost for the first 3-6 months, if you decide to hire software developers from your home country.
The Cost Advantage of Hiring Dedicated Developers
Let’s talk about when you hire dedicated developers. Businesses often worry that managing remote teams can be tough, and if that’s one of your concerns, you should consider to hire dedicated developers. This might be the perfect solution for you. When you hire dedicated developers, you’ll have a team that’s fully focused on your project and works in sync with your in-house teams, but without the hefty price tag (as in the case when you hire software developers locally).
You should prefer to hire dedicated developers when you need someone to work on your project for a long term. This is because when you hire dedicated developers, they can provide continuous support and updates to you.
What Are Your Hidden Savings?
Beyond the visible savings in salary and overheads, there are other financial benefits when you hire developers in India.
Faster Time to Market: Because Indian developers are experienced in working with international clients, they are often faster at delivering projects. This speed can significantly reduce your development timelines, which means lower project costs in the long run.
No Infrastructure Costs: When you hire software developers locally, you need to invest in infrastructure—computers, office space, internet, software licenses. Whereas, when you hire developers in India, most Indian of them are fully equipped with these essentials. This saves you additional expenses.
Lower Cost of Living: Indian developers can offer you competitive rates because the cost of living is much lower in India compared to Western countries. This allows you to hire developers in India at a fraction of the price as compared to your local alternatives.
Does Lower Cost Mean Lower Quality?
Absolutely not! Lower costs when you hire developers in India don’t at all imply that you’re compromising on the quality of work. India is home to some of the best software development talent in the world. Many Indian developers have degrees from top universities, certifications in leading technologies, and experience working with international clients.
However, as with hiring anywhere, you need to carefully vet developers to ensure they are the right fit for your project when you hire developers in India. Look for developers with a proven track record, good communication skills, and experience in your industry. Whether you’re hiring directly or through a service provider, taking the time to find the right talent will pay off in the long run.
Resourcifi, a leading staff augmentation agency based in India is one such company I can think of. Their expert developers are highly qualified and have experience working with international clients as well. This can be beneficial for your venture as when you hire developers in India, they’d be bringing global expertise to the table.
Final Thoughts:
Hiring developers from India offers undeniable cost advantages, especially when compared to the high salaries and overheads in Western markets. From salary savings to lower infrastructure and recruitment costs, the financial benefits when you hire software developers remotely are endless.
Whether you choose to work with an outsourcing company or directly hire dedicated developers, taking the time to assess your needs, set clear expectations, and communicate effectively will make all the difference when you hire developers in India.

Complete Guide to Obtaining an Apostille in Bangalore
In an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of having your documents authenticated for international use is paramount. For those residing in Bangalore, understanding the process of acquiring an apostille in Bangalore is essential. An apostille is a certification that makes your documents legally valid in other countries. In 2022 alone, India processed over 3 million apostille requests, with Bangalore contributing significantly due to its status as a major educational and technological center.
This guide aims to provide a clear and detailed understanding of how to secure an apostille in Bangalore, whether you’re dealing with educational qualifications, personal documents, or business papers.
Tumblr media
Understanding Apostille
An apostille is a special form of authentication that confirms the legitimacy of your documents in foreign countries that are part of the Hague Convention of 1961. With over 120 countries recognizing the apostille, this process is crucial for those traveling abroad from Bangalore, whether for work, study, or other personal reasons.
The Necessity of Apostille
When you plan to move abroad, your documents must be recognized as legitimate by foreign authorities. For instance, if you’re looking to work in Europe or study in a country like Australia, you’ll need to have your documents apostilled to be accepted. Without this certification, your paperwork may be rejected, causing delays and complications in your plans.
Steps to Get an Apostille in Bangalore
The apostille process in Bangalore, while systematic, requires careful attention. Here’s how to go about it:
Step 1: Initial Verification
Before an apostille can be issued, your documents must first be verified by the appropriate local authorities. Educational documents are typically verified by the relevant educational department, while personal documents like birth or marriage certificates need to be verified by a local notary in Bangalore.
Step 2: Submission for Apostille
After verification, the documents are submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) either directly or through certified agencies in Bangalore. These agencies specialize in handling the process from start to finish, ensuring that your documents are processed without any hiccups.
Timeline for Apostille Process
The duration for obtaining an apostille can vary depending on the type of document and the thoroughness of the initial verification. On average, the entire process takes about 7 to 10 business days. For those in need of faster service, express options are available, which can reduce the processing time to 3 to 5 days.
Cost of Apostille in Bangalore
The cost of obtaining an apostille in Bangalore can differ based on the nature of the document and the urgency of the request. Typically, you can expect to pay between INR 1,000 and INR 2,500 per document. Some agencies also offer discounts for bulk processing, which can be more economical if you have multiple documents.
Potential Hurdles in the Apostille Process
While the process for obtaining an apostille in Bangalore is generally straightforward, there are some common challenges that applicants might face. These include issues with initial document verification, such as incorrect or incomplete information, which can delay the process. Ensuring that all documents are properly verified before submission is key to avoiding these setbacks.
Selecting an Apostille Service Provider in Bangalore
There are several trusted agencies in Bangalore that can help with the apostille process. These agencies handle everything from initial verification to submission to the MEA, making the process much simpler for you. Notable agencies include ABC Apostille Services, XYZ Documentation, and Bangalore Document Solutions.

Whether you're pursuing education, employment, or personal ventures abroad, understanding this process is crucial. By following the guidelines outlined in this article and utilizing the services of experienced agencies, you can navigate the apostille process with confidence and ease.

Benefits of a Highly Educated Expat Visa
The highly educated expat visa is a special permit designed for individuals who possess high qualifications and wish to work in foreign countries that appreciate and seek such talents. This visa generally provides quicker access to employment opportunities abroad and offers a simplified pathway compared to other work visas.
For someone like me, who has ventured across continents to build a career, this visa was a game-changer. It allowed me to bypass some of the lengthy bureaucratic processes typically associated with moving abroad for work. If you're considering this route, understanding the specifics of this visa, including how to apply and what benefits it entails, is crucial.
Benefits of a Highly Educated Expat Visa
Securing a highly educated expat visa can open up a world of opportunities. Not only does it typically come with the possibility of a quicker integration into the workforce, but it also often includes benefits like health care, pension contributions, and sometimes even educational opportunities for dependents.
