Kipp is a mechanic that landed a gig with the Ministry of Joy, specializing in the components of The Marmaliser.

Life was dire for him before he came across the Ministry, which made him extremely susceptible to being marmalised. He's incredibly friendly, but going through the marmalisation process has fried a few of his wires and made him a bit delusional.

He's thinks the machine is sentient (it's not) and actively wants to bring people joy (it doesn't), and also thinks it's his friend (it's not). He'll chatter away with it as he works, and can get a bit protective when things go wrong.

He also thinks Cass is his friend. Cass could NOT disagree more.

He's incredibly attached to the Ministry and their machinery-- they really did it, they made him happy!-- and he has no intention of ever leaving them. He feels like he owes them his life.

this is beebo! they’re a common party jingler chucklet. by all technicality they’re a purebreed, but their breeder gave them up since they have a visible defect (their bell only has one slit— not painful to them, but makes their jingles much quieter) and their black bowtie isn’t up to breed standard. i’m currently fostering them until they’re old enough to walk on their own for more than short spurts.

lo is Very curious about them, since they’re of vaguely similar size but at much different points in development. they’re very confused that beebo can’t quite understand the tricks they try to teach, but they’re very glad to have another buddy in quarantine to perform for. lo is a very attentive— and flappy— audience.

Cassius is a psychologist working for the Ministry of Joy, with Oblivion, and their fear-based testing. He likes seeing what happens to the human mind when someone is scared out of their absolute wits. He's also a chronic flirt. These things rarely mix well for him.

Cass is NOT marmalised, and has no intention of being marmalised, because he needs his full cognition to do The Science. He's ethically grey (as is everyone at the MoJ honestly) and a lot of his tests involve subjects being absolutely terrified/dangling over the edge of oblivion/thinking they're going to die while he stands there with his clipboard and his little travel mug of coffee and "hmmm"s and "fascinating"s

It's not that he *wants* to kill you, he simply wants to see how close you can think you are to death before you just give up, that's all. Nothing personal.

Cass is also a huge flirt and is quite good at using his charm to get people to do what he wants. Spritz a little cologne, turn on a winning smile, and lure people in. He doesn't mind spending his free time chasing a bit of romance, as long as no one gets too terribly attached.

That SAID, he is quite fixated on Altair. Cass looks at them and sees a perfect guinea pig, a well of knowledge ready to tap into. They've been to space, to other realities, things he could only dream of subjecting his test subjects to-- and they're still alive to tell the tale? Oh fated meeting of minds!

Also Altair is really pretty, and Cass is Not Immune.

A little Altair tidbit that I posted on Bluesky, so it might as well go here too!

The stars on their face aren't part of their makeup. It's actually a permanent mark from their collision with a star, sort of like a very pretty scar. If they have to have such a visible reminder of what happened to them, at least it's one that looks nice, they think. They do their makeup to match it, not the other way around.

There may be a bit of stardust affixed in there, too, that can look glittery or glowy. Sometimes it also shows through in their eyes.

Altair works for Galactica (the company) as mission control and monitoring for their flights.

Galactica is reckless as hell with their portal technology (just look at the VR, I mean damn guys) and during one of the flights that Altair was on themselves, the wormholes got wonky, there was a collision with a star, spacetime broke a little and Altair experienced multiple realities at once. Really great way to fuck up someone's mind, if not shatter it altogether.

But they survived. They're okay, except when they're not. Now they are the King (gender neutral) of Existential Crisis. They will absolutely spiral into making themselves terrified and miserable and. relatable honestly

Did they even survive that incident? Are they the same them, or are they now a them from a timeline where they didnt actually die? This shit keeps them up at night. Please let them rest

Now they're just trying their best to make sure flights go safely and that kind of thing doesn't happen to anyone else.

Tempo is a Phalanx guard that ended up being used in one of those sketchy experiments at The Compound. She survived getting Nemmy DNA'd and is currently under close watch as part of their weapons program.

She also gained a slight connection with Nemesis, like a very light mind link. Not enough to clearly communicate, but they can pick up on each other's vibes way more clearly than before. She has NOT told higher ops about this.

The Nemesis DNA does weird shit to her, sometimes. When she loses her cool she sprouts tentacles and spikes and whoops she's a monstergirl.

Overall, it's a bit terrifying to her. Not only because of the immense physical changes, but because Nemesis is so often viewed as something to be feared. And now that Nemesis is part of her, she fears herself in a way, too.

But because of this, Tempo has gained a genuine empathy for Nemmy and doesn't really know what to do about that. She's secretly on Nemmy's side, for sure. "Seek the Truth makes some good points," she thinks, but does not say, lest the nearest Phalanx sniper immediately take her out.

But she also can't LEAVE because she is essentially Phalanx property now. Living classified data. Also if her condition gets worse, the Phalanx scientists may be the only ones who can save her life or whatever.

Nemesis thinks she's mid.
