For my dragon age friends: is it just me or does it feel like the game really sets you up for a relationship with Alistair from the beginning, at least if you're Lady Cousland? Alistair seems pretty keen on her even if you're just remotely friendly and defers complete leadership to this woman/girl who he barely knows. Most of his interactions with her are pretty flirty too once you, you know, get over the whole "everyone we know is dead" thing.

So I’ve never plugged my writing on Tumblr before, but last week I finished a long-term fic and I’m really proud that I got far enough to type “the end” so I thought it deserved a tumblr mention.

I also wanted to plug it because it’s a bit of a rarity in the world of DA fics: it’s a post-blight adventure for my female Cousland based on the comics that came out a couple of years ago (though you don’t need to have read them).

My own personal experience with AlCous was my first time venturing into da Fandom after being in the ME one forever. I was pretty much ridiculed for _not_ having Al w/ Cous and called a traitor of a Tabris/Al shipper for making Anora queen. Sucked.

That is just mind-boggling to me. I will never ever understand why people would do this. I just cannot wrap my brain around being that invested in what other people ship or do with their canon/stories.

Like, they know Al isn’t a real person, right? There’s no flesh and blood human who you are regulating to some bleak existence with your decisions... as much as I love him, he isn’t real. How does shipping him with anyone (or doing literally anything to him that you want... making him warden/king, killing him, exiling him) hurt anyone, exactly??

But I don’t hate the pairing. I think that first experience just colored my thought on the Fandom more than anything. Lot more judgmental than the ME Fandom (at the time. Things have changed.)

I’m in both fandoms but I’m a lot more involved in the DA side of things. I think you’re right though--in general ME does seem less toxic than DA can get at times. I’ve no idea what it is about this ‘verse that attracts such nasty fans.

I mean, not that all of DA is toxic/nasty obviously. I’m trying to carve out a drama-free corner over here and I’ve met some absolutely wonderful fans and fanfic writers/artists on tumblr, so the whole fandom isn’t rotten. But there are definitely some rotten apples mixed into this fandom barrel.

I thought of a Coulistair fairytale AU last night. It would start off like Cinderella (or really Drew Barrymore's Ever After) except Alistair is Cinderfella (god, I'm awful) and Cousland the princess.  After Alistair runs away from the ball Cousland finds out who he is, but she has to go through three trials to save him in order to prove that he's worthy of her love.  Special Appearance by Fiona, who'd say she was Alistair's fairy godmother, but we would know the truth.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

I did it. I can't believe it's over. I have killed the Archdemon in one playthrough without using any cheats. This also means one thing: Alistair has died.

I made a tribute video for him because I can't draw to save my life and I'm too sad to write. The video tells about the blossoming of the relationship of Alistair and the Warden, leading up to his Ultimate Sacrifice to save the woman he loves. The part with the wedding isn't real. It is merely a glimpse into the thoughts of the Warden, now full of grief for the loss of her first and only love.

What would happen to her now that her reason for living is gone?
