God I fucking hate the Winter Palace part of DAI. Hate it hate it hate it bite bite bite snarl 🤬

Why is the political intrigue necessary? I hate the whole idea of the Inquisition, so much politics, so little world saving.

In Origins, you had to go gather your allies to fight a world ending threat and then do the Landsmeet, and I feel like Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is trying to recapture that.  But the thing about the Landsmeet is that all that political intrigue directly affects YOU, THE WARDEN.  Loghain betrayed YOU.  His betrayal made the world ending threat worse for YOU.  After he betrays Cailan, he plasters wanted posters all over with your face on it.  And on top of that, your companion, who may be your bestie or your lover, has a personal stake in the Landsmeet.  Alistair hates Loghain for killing Duncan and Cailan--his half brother–and depending on how you handle Loghain, Alistair may decide he hates YOU.  And there’s also a chance of putting your bestie slash lover on the throne.

These are all VERY PERSONAL STAKES.

In DA2, there’s noises made about Hawke potentially becoming Viscount, and even though that’s not really fleshed out, it’s still something that DIRECTLY AFFECTS YOU.

The Winter Palace shit? I don’t know these people.  I don’t give a fuck about the empress of a country I don’t live in.  There are zero personal stakes.  No matter who comes out on top in that whole situation, the Inquisition fucking handles it as if nothing happens.  Consequences different for the next game, maybe, but like, if it doesn’t make me feel like oh fuck this is going to hurt me or my friends directly, then WHAT. IS. THE. POINT. OF. THIS????
