The living room looks out over a small reflecting pool to dunes and the ocean. Barbara Barry based her colors on the setting and the architecture. Sofas and chair backs are covered in white cotton.

🌸 when the Hindriarch banished Eskhind and her kin from Bey Lah, Neelahind would follow her heart into voluntary exile. To abandon a surefooted life, as well as a coveted spot among the Fellowship, is nearly unheard of among both hindren and Wardens, but Neelahind was glowing when she took her leave. I hear the pair are quite happy together, practicing arconautics in the ruins to the west—at least, that's what the kendren bring news of when they come back to trade.
back at it again w more caves of qud deer gals 😏✨ i'm kind of enamored with the ending to the Bey Lah quest where Esk and Neela both take off, so i wanted to see what they'd look like as a matched set of lesbian pariah-arconauts. geez, i can’t believe it’s been almost two years since i drew them last
image descriptions under break!
img desc: A drawing of a hindren deerfolk girl from "Caves of Qud". On the left a title card reads "Pariah Neelahind (she/her)". Some of the details are labeled. Her fur is a rich cedar red, with a lighter heartwood underbelly curling under her arms and on the inside of her legs down to her hooves; her curly hair is dark mahogany, tied back in a ponytail with a sky-blue bandana; her antlers are a pale heartswood, deepening to a rich velvet at the tines. She’s smiling, looking up and off to her right; she's poised upright, her arms spread to either side of her as she grips the haft of her war-scythe Yal, which is laying across her shoulders. She’s wearing shining steel platemail—a breastplate over a nanoweave surcoat patterned with pale lemon slices over pink (called "Pink Lemonade"); her armor is incomplete, but well taken care of. She’s wearing leather braces, a steel gauntlet on her left hand only, and a woven blue sash and bedroll across her back.
img desc: A drawing of a hindren deerfolk girl from "Caves of Qud". On the right a title card reads "Pariah Eskhind (she/it)". Some of the details are labeled. Her fur is ashen, with her pale undercoat spotting through on her forearms and flanks. Her messy hair is a greenish bleach-blonde, and one of her ears has a hole in it; her antlers are pale and their velvet is darker grey, and they're covered in little tied-on charms and brass tine hornaments. She has an eyepatch over her left eye, and a gap between her front teeth. She's grinning, slouching in a relaxed fashion, pulling back her hood with one hand and flashing a rock-on with the other; her front two legs are crossed, while the back two are spread like she's posing for a picture. She's wearing a well-worn chainmail hauberk, which extends down over her back; a ragged cowl, with buttoned slots along the hem of the hood for her antlers to fit through; a leather bracer on her left wrist, a steel pauldron on her right shoulder, a fingerless elastyne glove on her right hand, and two pairs of croccasins on her hooves. A pocketed saddle is slung over her back, along with a backpack and bedroll; on either side, the pockets are full of tools and bits. Tucked into her swordbelt is a sheathed folding carbide longsword and a gaslight kris; slung across her chest is a bolt-action rifle called "Peashooter" (it has a lesbian flag on its stock). Around her legs are several beaded bracelets and charms; one of them is the rightfully reclaimed Kindrish, complete with its carved deer charm.
#polyart#caves of qud#fanart#cervitaur#eskhind#neelahind#i actually kin neela really hard lol#i like drawing her being confident n happy even if she's apparently in more dangerous n unsure situations#something something transgender#esk is right at home tho she's such an adrenaline junkie#fun lil details include#the waxing crescent gorget neela's using as a makeshift pauldron#that's a badge of office for the fellowship#no point in flaunting it anymore#“escaupil” actually refers to a kind of woven armor used by the mexica back during the time of the conquest#it was really thickly woven cotton armor that was soaked in brine to harden it even further#it was really good at deflecting arrows n other projectiles#i like the idea of a nanoweave escaupil#in stark contrast to the iron plate and chainmail worn by the conquistadores#and marrying the old traditional forms of the hindren with the retrofuture aesthetics of arconauts#esk isn't actually missing an eye#she's just operating on pirate logic#in case she needs to go into a dark hole somewhere she flips the patch n has nightvision#she's silly like that#also peashooter is a spara exclusive ofc#she's an absolutely terrible shot tho

Ok I changed my mind, these are my babies now.
Ok I will be the first to admit that sleep deprivation makes me hysterical, and all these guys needed was a good wash and dry. And I really ought to iron them as well, although I doubt I will. In my defense tho, I haven't woven with cotton in a while, and I forgot that warp-faced lifeless garbage washes into very sturdy and neat little things.
I mean, look at that--I havent washed the very first towel yet because I didnt hemstitch it, and the difference between it and a washed one is pretty stark.
Only thing is they did, predictably, shrink a lot. The two square ones I was hoping could be dish mats are much more napkin sized now, and I have once again produced. Small hand towels. Should have cut out one of the squares and added that extra length to everything else. I am still really happy with them though. Especially the hemstitching. I wasn't all that comfortable hemstitching before this--usually I did either rolled hems or fellstitching or else tassels--the last hem only took 2 and half minutes, and it's 190 ish ends. So it's way faster than I thought it would be ! Plus, my mom inherited a bunch of (much finer) handwoven Italian textiles from her dad, and they all had a very short fringe almost like this. Just with like 1/10th the epi xD.
...I really want a finer dent reed.
Anyway. Now I just gotta put my fuckin loom back together, and then the big blanket project that I've been putting off for months.
#weaving#cotton#towels#hand woven#the relief you guys.... its real#also finished steam cleaning my carpet and putting my shoulders and thumbs back in their stupid sockets#and now i am taking a smal break to celebrate and chug a monster zero and smoke several cigarettes#my newest migraine meds have decimated my appetite and old habits have immediately returned :/ RIP#yesterday all i had was a burrito and thats because my sister handed it to me#if she'd put it on the counter or in the fridge it woulda stayed there#anyway the cleaning is proceeding slowly but apace. and fueled by a lot of caf and nicotine and stress#ah well#might make more tabouleh tho#id eat tabouleh..... would never turn that down#hm..

I love you leather I love you fur I love you sinew and bone and wool,
I love everything you're able to make with it, drums and flutes and tools and clothes and bags and toys and shoes and
#op#i love natural materials guys#i also just love how leather smells. one of my favorite smells fr#it has such a fresh slightly earthy/sweet scent#i hole to one day have a wardrobe that is (first hand) made of fully natural materials#both for myself and the earth. Cotton and linen and hemp for summer and wool and fur and leather for winter#if i can't get/afford custom I'm hoping I'll get skilled enough to make my own#I'm hoping for some sealskin gauntlets for the winter cause i heard those are uber warm. maybe I'll be able to order some from nunavut#honestly if i could I'd get all my winter gear from there. i heard it gets to -60 so like if anyone would have warm gear it'd be the#native groups there#i once went out in like -35 for a day and yikes my current gear is *not* made for that#also maybe like loosely woven/knitted wool in summer too maybe. will have to try it

the briefest thing i have to say about learning this whole 'sewing clothes from patterns' thing is thank god for thrift store bedsheets, which let me have multiple yards to fuck up for only $3.99 each
#i am DETERMINED to figure this shit out#i want a pair of goddamn PANTS#hound barks#for reference a single yard of new fabric from my local stores tends to range from $12.99-17.99 just for woven cotton

ANNOYED bc i keep plopping her on top of the bed whenever she tries to smack my ankles in the hall
#yes new blanket#rip to the other blanket from approx 2013-2023 u served me well and i bought you so long ago the email and seller are WELL lost to time#the perfect print in the perfect colors and stayed with me through too many moves but was loved well past its useful life#this one is from an estate sale and upon laundering after sitting in a sealed box for two months actually does have light moth damage#that i am assuming was not revealed when it was simply thrown in a hot dryer for two hours before storage in an airtight box for two months#bc i don’t think larvae would have survived that#so this very light rough woven cotton sheet is not long for this world either but they are not particularly hard to find#mackintosh#this actually turned into more of a textile post#textile crimes

The problem with buying clothes at target is that I have had several pieces from target over the years that have been indestructible with nice details and then other pieces that I've had to throw away after washing once and I just do not have the mental fortitude to shop with that critical of an eye most days
#like truly some of my favorite prettiest clothes ever come from target and I keep them for years!!#i would say do not buy tshirts or any like knit cotton basics#but woven flat fabric can be really nice

More like a wrap this one, but still works as a scarf. Mini photoshoot because I don’t have my pins here whilst I catsit but still want to celebrate pride month.
Also I continue to win at yarn chicken so much I might have enough for another warp 🙈

Im starting to think about the outerwear i want to sew for this winter (upholstery tapestry coat of my dreams here we come) but the hurdles of 1. Natural fibre only and 2.need warm insulating lining. Are apparently quite high.
#can i use a cotton fleece that has stretch as a lining a non stretch woven outer???#probably shouldnt#can i finally find a baba blanket AND have the courage to cut it up to sew a coat???#remains to be seen

I was more like this at age 20; I still had the health and energy to go shopping and make crafts to enhance my living space. By 30, health issues were rapidly approaching the point where I wasn't going to have the ability to care about stuff like that anymore.
I'm turning 30 this month, and for some reason have become suddenly interested in material possessions. like what if,,,,,,,,my couch was nice. what if my sheets were nice. is this what happens to you??
#the only not nice sheets i ever had were ones that bragged about being a higher thread count#they just felt slimy to me#and too heavy#but i had really liked the pattern and hoped they would feel better after washing#they didn't#i like low thread count#more breathable#i found a set once where they feel just like a nice woven cotton shirt#none of that percale#it was an ugly color plaid almost a check#but that one i bought for the feel of them#you can tell how warm this winter has been#because for the first time since i was a kid i have lightweight summer sheets on my bed#instead of flannels#and i'm more than warm enough#nice to me would be an old light enough to move (pine?) bedroom set#my horrible bought new one is all pressed wood and all the drawer catches broke#so when you pull them out more than an inch they fall on the floor#but i don't think we had any thrift stores around here when i picked out that one#there wasn't really anywhere to look for that sort of thing except what they had in the penneys catalog
