Then and Now- 415 W. Union Street in Morganton in Burke County, North Carolina

Early 1900's and 2024- This beautiful house is located at the corner of West Union and Burkemont Ave in Morganton. The National Register of Historic Places states that the house was built circa 1895.

The house is a one-and-one half story, asymmetrical, frame, hip-roofed, Queen Anne cottage. It has an ornate wraparound porch with turned posts topped by rurved brackets and pendants.

you know what i'm gonna have to disagree. i don't think morgan's affiliation to magic and nickname "le fay" are enough, especially bc she prides herself on a lofty status that elevates her above the humble rural living that cottagecore romanticizes. i mean here she is in the vulgate proclaiming herself a king's daughter (isn't she the daughter of duke gorlois?) while she prepares to kill her husband and get away with it.

queen shit. here are some characters i think would be into cottagecore.

arthur: when thomas berger wrote him as loving his simple life in wales with his family and sleeping out with the dogs and genuinely relishing his modest upbringing with his foster brother? i felt that.

blanchefleur: she definitely named herself "white flower" after her own garden's award winning blossoms at the county fair. she bottles it for perfume too, if you're interested. perceval always keeps a little vial around his neck so he can smell it and think of her while on quest or when he gets lost on his way to take out the trash. thanks wifey.

brangaine and palamedes: whether or not she can actually achieve this lifestyle whilst in the service of isolde, she definitely dreams of fleeing to the countryside with palamedes. it also makes his commute shorter (cottage is on the edge of the enchanted woods in which the questing beast roams).

culhwch and olwen: after the nightmarish tasks they underwent just to get married they absolutely retired far away from court life where those shenanigans wouldn't reach their children.

dindrane: she's the quintessential nun, one who didn't learn necromancy. she enjoys all the typical stuff expected in a remote hermitage; gardening, baking, making wine, going on an adventure bilbo style complete with chaotic means and tragic ends, bird watching.

fisher king and elaine: since the queen passed away they just want more father and daughter bonding time out on the boat to fish. they catch dinner in their little pond and take it home to cook and go to sleep happy. they do the same thing again the next day without any obligations besides living. nothing bad happens.

green knight and wife: pretty sure they invented cottagecore or at least introduced the concept into the realm. they have their own line of cottagecore starter kits with little seeds to grow personalized mini gardens for a country oasis even in the discomfort of your monarch-sanctioned barracks. so what if the plants they sell are annuals and you have to buy a new one every year. aren't you committed to the aesthetic?

isolde and tristan: did they or did they not smash in that grotto like their lives depended on it? i rest my case.

merlin: have you read mary stewart's merlin trilogy? my guy wanted the quiet life so bad it made him look stupid. he died as he lived, in the middle of fucking nowhere. say what we will he committed to the bit to the very end.

tor: he is literally a cowboy farmer kid turned knight. actually forget the whole list he's the only one.

Ya they have a little garden, Sarah grows the roses she talked about and drives a white Range Rover that Simon bought her to be funny (yummy mummy stereotype). Perhaps an apple tree out front that they take a family pic in front of every year. The cottage is thatched which Simon hates because it’s high maintenance and expensive but Sarah loves it because cottagecore and she’s in her Home Counties era

The first thing that came to my mind when I imagined the cottage was that it's painted white and has a thatched roof my GOD it would be so disgustingly cute! Apple pies cooking in the oven in the autumn, peach pies when it's spring.

And her cottagecore would get so out of hand! She wants to plant like a hundred spring bulbs (tulips) and Simon has to help her with that. Groaning he has back pains and he just came from work and wants to relax for a bit but his wife is enthusing over the bulbs she ordered and now they've arrived so out he goes to get this thing done... Sarah follows with the box and an overjoyed grin on her face 🌷

Then he has to make love to her after that because she's just glowing from gardenwork 💗 and of course he groans some more about the back pain (doesn't really mind it at that point but he likes to whine when the house and the garden and the babies and his wife are so much work... in all honesty that's his way of saying he's the happiest man in the world)

Tar ar Ais

Tar ar Ais is a detached thatched cottage near the village of Lettermacaward just eight miles from Dungloe. The cottage sleeps six people and has two double bedrooms, one twin with an en-suite shower room, and a family bathroom. Also in the cottage is a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an open fire. Outside is ample off-road parking and a shared front lawned garden. Situated on the west coast of County Donegal, Tar ar Ais is a lovely family holiday cottage from which to explore this beautiful part of the country.

i’m the summer anon: i would say magic dancing roses by v&r, lost cherry, tam dao, angel’s share by killian, guerlain petit robe noir, and gucci guilty love are the fragrances that are most my vibe but i want to branch out to things that are still in tune with my collection but easier to wear in hot weather and less cloying. something to “bridge the gap” as you said. ♥️

hi sweetie here’s some ideas.. yes based on what u like i thought less about summer specific fragrances and more about what could fit into ur vibe that is perhaps more versatile for year round and could be worn comfortably in warmer weather.. maybe not on the hottest day of summer but maybe in the shade.. or in the car with the windows down going 95mph down the highway.. maybe at night or maybe on a rainy overcast summers day.. for example one of my ideas guimauve from reminiscence is voted as a winter scent on fragrantica but to me smells like a tea party under the shade of a big tree in the summer.. it’s a delicious fluffy honeyed floral vanilla and smells like some cottagecore hoe with all the windows in her little cottage open, letting the cool summer breeze in, baking some artisanal honey cake.. so maybe not summery to everyone but i think could be summery to u 😋
