I did have a marvelous time at the fabric store here which is run by a woman whose family escaped the holocaust when she was 5 years old. She is such a beautiful elegant person and she has fantastic taste except that she doesn’t like yellow and does not stock any yellow fashion fabric. Sadly. This is a printed 100% linen called “Lady of Shallott” that I am thinking about making into a simple dress (like this one?) Any pattern recommendations? I have about 3.5 yards. Also, I should definitely wash it before I try to sew with it, right?

Sooo, I've sown linen (or flax idk how it's called tbh) like a month ago. On a little plot next to my grandparents house. I'm gonna try to:

grow it (we're here atm)

harvest and thresh it

soak, dry and brush it to make it into fibers

dye it

spin it to make yarn

weave it into fabric

and then make those opoczynskie folk pants

so here's linen just after sowing

here's it this weekend (28may)

and here's the goal

BUCKLE IN BUDDY

Just as a quick aside before I get started: I'm a slut for linen. I've been super into linen clothing for a few years now and I honestly think linen is the best sustainable fabric. THAT BEING SAID. A lot of linen clothing is expensive??? Like stupid expensive. You can find it cheaper on poshmark and other similar sites, but the plus side of ordering through them is that you can customize it (I never have, but the option's there).

Anyway here's the source shops:

The Maybe Collection One of the few linen stores I've found that is manufactured in the states. I recently discovered their stuff and I'm stoked to find a states-side option.

VIKOLINO Another US-made linen company from my home state, Jersayyyy. I love that one of the models is totally their mom. And their kids clothes are cute.

NotPERFECTLINEN For me this brand is the epitome of linen clothing. Gorgeous cuts that manage to skip over frumpy with lots of variety. Lithuanian-made with a focus on sustainability.

Leka Design I unexpectedly discovered this shop while visiting friends in Victoria, BC. Entering their workshop was like being greeted by old friends (insert joke about friendly Canadians) and while not all their clothes are linen, a lot are, and they're beautiful.

Tsiomi Kids Ukranian linen (and cotton) clothes maker that makes really cute kids clothes for your instagram-worthy family photo shoots. Their adult clothing has the same vibes as Sonderflor.

Linen ID Studio Another Lithuanian linen shop with those cottage-core vibes everyone's looking for, but with a more modern flare. I'm lusting after several of their blouses.

FLAX Can't have a linen shop list without FLAX. They're old school, and while I'm not exactly sure if they're considered "slow fashion", they're sustainably sourced and can be a lot more affordable, especially second hand.
