I was lucky enough to see DC’s SHAZAM! earlier than most and I have to say, this movie had me laughing along with it!  Already, SHAZAM! is being hailed as One of the Most Fun Superhero Movies Ever Made, and for good reason too.  Here I talk a little about the film, share some photos of the Shazam costume exclusively from the halls of San Deigo Comic-Con (SDDC) last year AND photos of the SHAZAM! cast at SDCC as well.  I also share a short video of Zachary Levi’s 2017 Heroes and Villians FanFest panel in San Jose CA.  There, Levi shared his thoughts on being compared to “Chris Pratt” (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his excitement for the film’s success.

Without giving too much away, SHAZAM! is a fun-filled mix between the movie BIG, Spider-Man (2002 Toby Maguire) and with a sprinkle of Superman.  If you’ve seen the trailers, you’ll know what I mean.  If you haven’t, I highly recommend you go see it for yourself.  I’ve embedded the video for your convenience below:

According to Variety, Levi is pure pop charisma in a comic-book saga that walks a deft line between satire and sincerity.  For me, the casting was pure genius.  Levi’s portrayal was just simply spot on.  Also, it looks like that the SHAZAM! cast really bonded together.  And this sincerity and friendship were what made the movie so much fun for me.  It goes without saying that this movie has A LOT of heart.

Additionally last year, DC put the SHAZAM! costume on display at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).  I was lucky enough to see and take some close-up photos of the costume, shared below.  The first thing I noticed was how much detail they put into the design.  The metal bracers, belt, and golden boots are finely crafted.  I also like the intricately sewn golden symbols along the edges of the cape and the hood, which look like it’s been sewn with gold/metallic-type thread.  But what’s truly impressive is the lightning insignia on Shazam’s chest, it really glows!  Check it out for yourself below:

I think this attention to detail is what really helped make SHAZAM! feel more authentic and fun.

Also, the main cast of SHAZAM! showed up at the SDCC main floor to sign posters and meet fans last year.  This included Zachary Levi (Shazam), Asher Angel (Billy Batson) and Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy Freeman).  Although I wasn’t lucky enough to get my poster signed, the line was too long and the slots limited, I was able to get some great shots of the cast up close.  In some of the photos, you can see that they really bonded and I think it’s that sort of thing that helped make this movie such a success.

To top it all off, I was able to attend Zachary Levi’s panel at Heroes and Villians FanFest at San Jose, CA in 2017.  There Levi shared his thoughts on being the “Chris Pratt” (Guardians of the Galaxy) of the DC Universe and his excitement to become the lead for what’s being is being hailed as DC’s most joyful and sweet movie since the days of Christopher Reeve’s Superman.

SHAZAM! opens today (April 5th) in the United States.  It’s certainly one we at SKKAW.BLOG recommend you go watch.  In fact, go bring your buddies and family too, we think they’ll love it as much as we did!
