Hey, I’m new to witch craft and I was just wondering what kitel means?
Hey!! Oh my god, that’s my bad, I should have explained it. So Elisehba is really into this old dead language, called Coshk. She is the only person (that I  know of, at least) who really uses it, but it definitely does interesting things to how magic manifests! So you’ll usually hear the phrase Eizin (pronounced AY-zin. Maybe you already know this, but you said you’re new and I loooove talking about language!!) which a lot of people translate as ‘mentor,’ or ‘witch mother.’ But that’s not really what it means. It’s sort of like… if you’re walking down a path towards the center of everything, the next stone on your path is your Eizin. So this is cool, because it doesn’t only apply to people, but anything that gets you closer towards the center. Also Eiphic (the language that it comes from) has this sense of the nearer you are to the center.. the better you are. So Eizin also is a sort of an honorific, the next stone on the path is not just nearer, but also… greater and of more power than you.
oh my god!! Sorry I just got into such a ranty digression!!
So Kitel is from this ancient language, that is somehow related to mKws, but i’m not sure how yet!! It has a few different spelling (a LOT), so you might see it at kytal, kaitell, ktl, or kTll (though, you probably won’t see it much). Elisheba is pretty sure it’s all the same word—because of context clues and the continuation of the K beginning ‘Tuh’ middle and ‘L’ finish. A lot of Coshk’s spelling changes (for example, you might see Coshk as kws), which is part of why it’s such a hard language to understand/use. So, ohmygodthistookmesolong, to answer your question kitel means mentor, sort of. It seems to be used pretty universally as a sign of gratitude towards another being. It’s actually really beautiful. It is also used when someone like... does something and you want to commemorate it. It kind of invokes this dual feeling of gratitude (though that’s sort of not the best way to look at it... it means like, someone doing something beautiful/kind) and also this feeling of having changed? Like if you see a good movie and it shifts your world view, that’s kitel.
Coshk is really coool!!! But it’s also a really dangerous language to use, Elisehba told me that when she was first decoding the book, she tested out the usage of the language. Most beings didn’t understand what she was saying, but Jax did and they got…. super weird about it. I don’t know what that means, and Elisheba hasn’t elaborated. But be careful !! Language has power.
oh my god sorry again that this answer was such a rant!! I get so into these things.
